The question is, how are these gonna get translated? I mean, Romance Dawn you basically have the scanlation to go by, but Yo! Son Goku and Friends Return! is new. And I'd love to see Letter Bee translated also.
New One Piece anime special news!

Here's the english page for the anime specials. You'll need to download a special browser in order to see them once they've been added. They've also got a summary and character profiles for each film.

That's a cool site. Finally, some confirmation that Brook is in the special. And it has Brook's fruit as the Revive Revive fruit. But sadly they have Zoro as Zolo. They also list All Blue as Ocean Blue and use Cursed Fruit. I hope Funimation brings the DB and OP ones to America sometime but I'll settle for being able to watch them on Jumpland.
Edit: I don't get it. The DB page uses the right names but the One Piece one gets stuck with dub mistakes? Not fair!
-
And it has Brook's fruit as the Revive Revive fruit.
"Revive-Revive"? Man, that's awful. I thought there was like a 2-syllable-limit for those things or something… Seriously, why not just call it the Life-Life fruit? At least that's one hell of a lot easier to say.
-
Revive is two syllables. Revive is a perfect translation as far as I'm concerned. Much better than calling it the Hades Hades Fruit.
-
Yeah I REALLY hope they're not sticking with those. Kinda makes me wonder if they're going to at least offer a subbed version if they went through all the trouble or making an English site and forcing people to use their own browser free of any kind of video grabbers.

Thanks a lot…So it means we can watch it online at a specific time or anytime after it airs?
Anyway, I'm a bit disappointed....
-Gary >_> ...When will we see some real fearsome pirates, not some joker.
-Plot seems very fillerish, and not one of Oda's original ideas. Aka RD.
-Art from the pics doesn't look like one of the A-List, My best guess Masayuki Takagi.Anyway, I hope it turns out good...Great though that brook is involved.
-
I've always translated Brook's Devil Fruit as the Hell Hell Fruit myself, seeing as Yomi means the Afterlife. Besides, some Devil Fruits, like Moria's Robin's and Enel's kind of have to be two syllables anyway. I'm wondering how much filler they put into Romance Dawn, though, since even Brook's in it. Should be interesting, though. Are they going to put subtitles on the site, or will the streams be in Japanese?
-
If they are putting this much effort in already as far as translations go, and the fact that the page has different language versions, I would assume they are going to have subtitles… then again... who knows.
-

Except Yomi Yomi comes from the verb, yomigaeru, which means "to be resurrected, to be revived, to be resuscitated, etc." So it can't mean Hades or Hell or Afterlife. Hence Brook's one time ability to come back to life.
-
Stephen says that Yomi is the Japanese word for the Afterlife. Seeing as it's also a name for Hades, Hell Hell Fruit seems the best translation. Besides, if Yomi means Afterlife, since gaeru means return, then yomigaeru means literally "Afterlife return", in other words… revival. You need to break down yomigaeru to just Yomi.

I really want see both specials really badly. I'd love to see some subs show up, but I doubt it.

Believe me, it will be ripped and subbed in no time flat.
-
On that site is that just old Toei artwork just with the clothing change to fit the special?
-
And I'd love to see Letter Bee translated also.
I am kind of puzzled at Letter Bee's inclusion as one of the Jump series to get a special for the Jump anime tour, and now as one of the only three to be screened online. It's not particularly long-running, and I've never heard of it either. Is it just very popular in Japan but word hasn't spread yet? I think it's also interesting that Naruto wasn't included in the tour at all.
-
Its not too surprising since One Piece barely started running in Jump when it got a special in the Jump Super Anime Tour back in 1998. Plus Viz just licensed Letter Bee and they plan on putting it in Shonen Jump next year so I assume they expect big things from it.
-
They probably do expect big things from Letter Bee, since it's one of the most popular series' in Jump S.Q. at the moment (I'd say it's more popular then any of them except for Claymore). It was one of the series that got carried over from Monthly Shonen Jump, and it's been doing quite well. And Viz has just licensed it, so that's probably a huge factor in why they did it. And this means that Letter Bee's probably getting an anime soon, which is awesome.
-
the dragonball story sounds funny as hell.
And I like their descriptions of the characters. Except vegeta's… his is.... questionable, in the wrong way. :(
"Rivals with Goku more than just with fighting."
super :(
-
Which is also stupid because in the End of DB, Vegeta gave up his Rivalry for Goku…
But this is gonna be awesome!! I can't wait till it hits the net!!
Does anyone thing, that since FUNimation owns the Rights to Both DBZ and One Piece, they could do a "JUMP Super Anime Tour Double Feature" Special Disc with both Specials on it? -
That would be really cool and from what I've heard Funi has expressed interest in the DB special.
Oh and if anyone has not checked it out you can see what names the characters go by in the french and dutch versions. Funny how Zoro is allowed to be spelled as Zorro in other countries.
-
-
On that site is that just old Toei artwork just with the clothing change to fit the special?
Yep, they're the exact same with different outfits thrown on top. Take it from someone who's seen most of Toei's settei-pres. Whenever a crew gets a new outfit, they simply take the same settei-pre and draw the new outfit ontop of it.
EDIT: But yeah, all of One Piece's official English sites have horrible translations. It's not even dub terms, but inaccuracy's as well as grammar errors. The biggest on that site is both in bios and summary. They state they are looking for the legendary "passage to 'Grand Line'", despite they found that passage a long ass time ago and they are actually looking for "One Piece".
-

-
Right now I can watch the special through the original browser. I didn't expect it but it has subs
I don't have the time to watch it + I don't have a good streaming speed but I already love "new" the intro.
It starts with a whole new animation of the Gol D Roger intro and it has some kind of manga spoiler.
! Gol D Roger appears with his eyes open, something that as I remember is shown at ch 506
-
Holy Crap, it's SUBBED!
-
I´ve just seen the special. I don´t remember exactly all the plot from the manga, but I think they followed it closely (at the end the rest of the crew reappears with the Sunny, but just to fight against Crescent Moon´s crew. Luffy also uses Giganto Axe instead of normal Axe to break the ship).
The ending has all the crew singing
-
Where can I watch the One Piece special and the Dragonball special?
-
@Mr.:
Holy Crap, it's SUBBED!
Where are they at?
-
My sentiments exactly.^^
-
Check both of them here: http://www.jumpland.com/animetour/index_en.html
-
I'm watching the DB one right now, I'll get to the One Piece one later.
Animation is incredible, but the loading time is kinda bad. I can't believe there are English subs!
-
HOLY SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!
Im watchin DB last, gotta save the best for last
edit: gol d rogers eyes in anime form!
-
Watching DB for a second time. One Piece comes next.
Do the mods mind if we discuss all three specials in this spread??
-
I didn't think anyone could top the badass sniffing noise Gash made….Luffy just proved me wrong.
-
is it freezing every 5 seconds for everyone or is it just me?
-
is it freezing every 5 seconds for everyone or is it just me?
Same with me. I'm gonna leave it on pause for a while for it to buffer.
-
mines been on pause for like 20 mins and it still does it…
-
is it freezing every 5 seconds for everyone or is it just me?
No, it's not freezing every 5 seconds. IT'S FREEZING ON EVERY SINGLE FRAME. Ugh, why do I even bother?
mines been on pause for like 20 mins and it still does it…
From what I understand, it's not loading at all unless it's actually playing… Meaning, if your connection is slow, (like mine is) watching this is completely impossible.
...Toei, I hate you.
-
this is why fansubs are better, they actually give a shit about people
but im not fucking gonna give up and let them win! Even if it takes all day ima see this episode!
-
I'm doing good on my end. Before I started the episode I exited out all my internet used programs…I've had 1 freeze in the beginning then everything went fine.
-
this is why fansubs are better, they actually give a shit about people
In this particular case, I agree completely. It's like they went out of their way to make this as inconvienient as they possibly could or something…

Just watched the One Piece one. Awesome! I also loved the little stuff that appeared during the ending. For example…
! Return of the guy that was eating the kid's food on Baratie! =P
I had some times where it was going slow, but not as bad as others make it seem. Gonna watch the DB one next.
-
Well, I finally finished watching it.
I also had to let it pause before watching it again in roughly 30 second intervals. Nonetheless it was very fun, even with the general melodrama with Silk.
! One of my favorite dialogue exchanges was when Luffy was holding Gally by his collar and Gally shouts "I'm going to kill you, StrawHat", to which Luffy replies "Sure you are"
! I also got a kick with the climactic pirate battle being fought with the theme of "We Are", with similar camera angles. -
um, is there any way to tell if it started buffering or something, because i got a blank screen for like 10 minutes now… no player options no nothing, i can't even go in full screen mode
if someone finds an alternatev source let us know
-
I'm half hoping someone is able to rip these on to youtube or something myself
-
I would of totally enjoyed that ending scene for the We Are we got.
And if I can play through the episode again I'll record it, but seeing how someone else will get it done before me don't expect much.

Don't worry folks DVD releases have been confirmed for these specials.

They'll be included in certain issues of the different Jump magazines in Japan.

But here's the problem: How does that help us? It's not like most of us here can actually get it… Hopefully, FUNi will license these specials and dub them. They have the rights for both One Piece and Dragonball, after all. (Also, if they get the Dragonball-special, I'll be praying for an accurate dub this time... Cause it's about bloody time they did SOMETHING right with that franchise.)
