It's my turn!
@Kaiolino:
#17 and #18 aren't stronger in the main timeline. It's just that in the future they don't use all their power. When Gohan confronts the cyborgs for the final time in the future and is confident he will beat them, #17 says him and #18 had only been using half of their power up till then. In the main timeline they use their full power from the get go, making Trunks think they're stronger.
Actually, they ARE stronger in the main timeline and Trunks even points this out. He mentions that in his time, he's at least able to keep up with the two cyborgs in his Super Saiyan state. Whereas in the present timeline, he was utterly defeated like nothing.
@Strongbad456:
Actually wasn't the whole timeline changing thing Cell's fault since he travelled back before Trunk's did(A year before I think)? I always assumed it was Cell that changed it. But I also realize that Cell travelling to before Trunk's arrived could've been because of Trunk's first journey. I'm confused.
It all got screwed up when Trunks took on Freeza, as it was Goku who arrived and took him out in Trunks' time. That was the first problem. The second was him interacting with everyone prior to meeting with Goku.
@JERK:
Tsukento, you may be right about the rhyme, but the idea that its' "demon language silly!!!" is retarded.
There are maybe 12 chapters between that and Raditz showing up.
Allow me to backpedal a bit. It's possible that it could have been either demon tongue or Namekian, but Toriyama certainly didn't decide on Piccolo Daimao being a Namekian from the beginning, as stated in one of the Daizenshuu volumes:
Q: Speaking of Piccolo, did you think from the beginning of his background as a Namekian alien?
A: Of course, I didn't think that at all (laughs). The Saiya-jin were like that as well. When I thought up Goku's tail and the Oozaru, I didn't think Goku was an alien or anything. Piccolo either. Because I thought that up when Kami-sama came out.
So the whole alien thing was thought up after he made Piccolo, either way, but never really stated until the Saiyans arrived.
@Nobodyman:
9. Fusion: Well, that just came out of nowhere, didn't it? Cheap gimmicky powerup that raises a lot of physiological questions. I really don't have too much to say about it.
Not exactly a new concept, seeing as how we had Piccolo merging with Nail and Kami.
@Nobodyman:
6. Everybody dies: So I guess this was AT's idea to show how truly evil Boo was. Other villains had threatened it, but Boo was the one that put his money where his mouth was and killed pretty much everyone, including the entire population of Earth. Okay, I guess it doesn't bother me too much, but it just seems really depressing and unnecessary. I mean, we all know they're going to be brought back to life at the end anyway. But more importantly, I think it was just a very shallow method of Toriyama trying to step up his game for the final villain by having him kill everyone.
This was actually a pretty cool thing. It's a larger scale of what was done during the Piccolo Daimao arc where you believed everyone of the heroes was dead and all of the last resorts had gone out the window. It really felt like a desperate situation, especially when Goku decides to throw the Potara earring to Mr. Satan and suddenly senses Vegeta's Ki.
It gave the series a bit of a dark feeling and left you wondering just how the hell everyone was going to win. Especially when we clearly see Goku is no match against Boo alone, prior to his original form.
@Nobodyman:
5. Toriyama ruined Gohan's character: I don't know what it is. I don't know if it's the short hair, or that Toriyama gave him a weird high school subplot, or that he became a superhero for absolutely no reason, or that he got that dumb "mystic" powerup that stopped him from going SSJ again, or that new dub voice that Funi gave him, or maybe it's all of the above. But whatever it is, Gohan lost all the appeal for me that he once had.
I don't really understand why everyone says this. Gohan turns Super Saiyan 2 and everyone suddenly believes he's a badass that turned lame in the 7-year stretch.
What? Did we suddenly miss how much of a crybaby Gohan was through the whole Saiyan saga? The only reason he even did anything in the first place was because he was forced to do so. If Piccolo hadn't died, he'd probably had continued his studies to become a scholar.
It happened after returning from Namek until Freeza arrived on Earth.
The whole "superhero" thing wasn't without reason; it would have drawn unnecessary attention and would have been a problem for his personal life, as well as others who know him, as he mentions prior to arriving at the tournament.
Also, contrary to what the claim has been by internet folk for years, the power-up he received doesn't stop him from turning into a Super Saiyan. It's just not necessary, as all of his latent power is released, thus making the Super Saiyan form unnecessary.
@Nobodyman:
So apparently Boo was reincarnated (a concept that had never been alluded to before in the series)
Actually, it was. Vegeta asked Piccolo, prior to blowing himself up, if he would be able to see Goku in the afterlife. Piccolo responds with the fact that it's unlikely due to him killing several innocent people, which would result in his spirit going to Hell, being cleansed and then reincarnated into a different being.
@Nobodyman:
And what about Gohan? He was never as bratty or as overconfident as them, and that's one of the reasons I liked him so much.
It's because Chi-Chi wasn't lax with him about his studies and refused to allow him to do anything but that, and Piccolo was the one who trained him for a whole year at the age of 4.
@Nobodyman:
So yeah, Goten and Trunks had absolutely no appeal to me personality-wise. Not to mention they were ridiculously and unfairly overpowered, which leads me to my next point.
It's kinda something alluded to in the beginning of the series after Raditz is killed. When Nappa mentions repopulating the Saiyan race with the humans of Earth, Vegeta notes that the cross-breeding could be the result of Goku's son being as strong as he was for a kid and that the idea of "little super Saiyans" (not literally the form) that would surpass them in power wouldn't be a good idea.
So…Super Saiyan sperm may have some qua--OH GOD, WHY AM I SAYING THIS?
@NANLIT:
Yeah, I remember vaguely disappointed when I first saw Gohan 7 years after Cell was beaten and how he slacked in his training. And then even after his Mystic powerup he slacked again and Goku most likely surpassed him even at the end of DBZ.
As I mentioned before, Gohan wanted to be a scholar and didn't care for fighting. He even says this during his fight with Cell. He was always forced to fight. He didn't care for it like his father does.
@NANLIT:
What I find disappointing with Goten and Trunks is that they loved to fight when they were 7 and 8 (I remember them pretending to be an adult to compete in the Adult Tournament) and then within 10 years they didn't really care about training anymore.
That's what being a kid is like. You like to go on adventures and what not, but once puberty sets in, you start noticing girls and all that. That's pretty much what happened to Goten.
@NANLIT:
Although I did wonder why a century later Goku didn't seem to have his tail anymore.
GT was never really consistent with things. Though he does seem to have his tail as an adult in the fourth ending theme.
