For years I've held off buying a 360 or PS3, being perfectly content with just a Wii. But with Scott Pilgrim vs. the World drawing near and Marvel vs. Capcom 3 on the horizon (especially with the reveal of Ameterasu), I'm seriously considering buying one or the other. However, I know buying a whole system for just two games is a waste of money. So if anyone has any additional pros and/or cons for either platform, let me know. And please, keep this civil. No console warring.
To buy a 360 or PS3

As a 360 user, I'd have to say PS3. Mianly for the variety in thier exclusives, free online, and other little things. One thing I hate about the 360 is I had to spend even more money to better use the console.
And oh. There's quite a few PS3 users here that avidly play fighters.
-
You're gonna get different answers for every different forums you ask this.
Since the majority here only own either a Wii or PS3 or both, chances are most are gonna tell you to go for a PS3. It's better you do your research and check the exclusives on each console and multi-plats.
Since you're probably not a fan of either Halo nor Gears, and if you are not interested in Mass Effect/Alan Wake/Fable/some RARE games that are not that bad/Crackdown, then I'd say your best choice PS3. I may be a 360-only owner but I am aware of the fact that MS overprices its accessories and XBL.
-
Rare…I had forgotten about them. I never did beat Banjo-Kazooie. But then, I never got a chance to play any of the Sly Cooper trilogy. Hrm. Quite a conundrum.
-
I've had a 360 for a while, and though I don't really use it (much like every other game console I've ever used), it's been entertaining. I pick up a new game every few months, play it and beat it, and then abandon the system for a while. From what I can tell though, the 360 has a steady influx of games.

The only good Rare games on the 360 are Banjo-Kazooie, Banjo-Tooie and Perfect Dark; all N64 titles.
Everything, with the possible exception of Viva Pinata (which was decent), has been showing that Rare is hardly the big name it once was. They're Microsoft's Sonic Team, if you will.
-
And now they've been suckered into making shitty Wii-rip off Kinect titles :(
That's also something you have to account for: Whether you want Kinect, or Move. If you already own a Wii, I don't really see the point of buying Move. I'm not planning on buying Kinect but MS will release a 360 Slim Bundle with 4 GB of space and Kinect plus one Kinect game for $ 200, it's an ok deal I suppose.
-
Lol at comparing Move to the Wii.
The only downside to the Move is that your Wii will get dusty.
-
The PS3 and 360 are virtually equal at this point. Most of the issues people were bickering about in 2006 are long gone. Look at the exclusives for each and decide based on that.
Don't base your decision on Kinect or Move. Seriously.

Yea cause its not like Move has a fantastic selection of games planned…

You just used sarcasm wrong.

Bullshit. Both Kinect and Move are being used in the absolutely wrong manner by MS/Sony and a good chunk of third party developers; all gimmick-styles that did more harm than good when it was done on the Wii.
Funny thing is that Capcom's got the right idea with a Resident Evil title for the PS3, like with the Wii. Other than that, there's no much worth investing over $100 for either the Kinect or Move.
Just focus on actual games that aren't a blatant attempt at jumping on the motion control bandwagon. It's gonna be a good while before the two companies realize you can't expect motion controls to sell itself. Tech demos won't work, either. Especially when there's a cheaper alternative.

I prefer the 360 due to the simple fact that in many cases the games run better on it (due to a much friendlier development system), which is what I own it for primarily. Paying for XBL is definitely a downside, but I find it to be the best online interface of the three systems. Is XBL better? Yes, I think so. Is it worth the extra cash in comparison? No, it's not a value at all.
The big draw to the PS3 for me is the Bluray player. That by itself makes it the better value if you intend to take advantage of it. Both consoles have a few nice exclusives, but it's a fairly even race in that regard.
In short for performance, I find the 360 to have a slight edge in pure gaming, while I find the PS3 to have the significant edge in other media (movies, etc).

I have both systems and to be honest I would say buy a 360 if you like playing online. Its online service is just plain damn good and makes the PS3's online look like a joke. Then again the amount of idiots on xbox live is pretty high so you WILL come across quite a bit of stupidity…

As a 360 owner who's had Live for over three years now, it's not all it's cracked up to be. More often than not, you'll run into today's generation of idiots, whether they be kids, teens or…even adults.
Not only that, but in order to actually play with them, you have to pay for it. Combine that with MS being REALLY stingy about giving out anything for free (with PSN+, you will be able to obtain free games, including PSOne titles and other DLC when made available), and you begin to wonder just what exactly is it you're paying for.
The only real incentive you get from paying for Live is being able to get discounts for games and DLC on a weekly basis. But as I mentioned, PSN+ will be doing that, while also offering free titles.
-
If you have 3 years with it, you should know you don't have to deal with those kids/teens if you just mute them, decide not to talk in game chat, and I think there should be an option to automatically mute all of them.
I just play with my friends and chat with them on XBL Parties, that way I don't have to deal with the other morons in game chat.
It seems you really regret buying the 360. You hate Halo and Gears and all that, so yeah it would make sense. I think it'd be better if you sold your 360 since you don't seem to get the most out of it.
-
Not having to pay for your online wireless connection is, to me, a huge plus in the PS3's favor. As is Blueray.
I've had my PS3 for about five months now, and I heartily enjoy it.
-
I'm going to jump on the PS3 bandwagon. The main reason I originally bought it was for MGS4 but there have been quite a few exclusives I've enjoyed, Heavy Rain being one of them. I also prefer the PS3 controller to the 360's.
-
Ps3, though my opinion is invalid because I am a biased fanboy.
-
Personally I would go with the PS3. Most of the better games are on both systems and PS3 comes with a Blu-Ray player (useful if you want to watch films from abroad. Such as Strong World.) and free online if you use it.
PS3 has Demon's Soul's, Heavy Rain and 3D Dot Game Heroes. 360 has Halo, Alan Wake and Gears of War.

There's a reason why I switched to the PC version of Left 4 Dead; Steam's community is so much better than Xbox Live's. Same with Team Fortress 2 (no updates on the console versions aside). If I opted not to plug in my headset, I wouldn't hear a thing my team was saying, resulting in them throwing a shit fit and booting me from the game.
At least with the PC versions, I can type or opt not to speak at all and not have to worry about being booted because I didn't want to listen to some little shit calling everyone "nigga" or "faggot."
Unfortunately, most of the games that I did play online on the 360 were infested with children. It always baffled me how I'd be playing an M-rated game, yet be stuck with children on the other end. Terrible parenting there.

Problem there is that I have friends within different timezones with games I either don't like or just don't own and vice-versa. So it kinda gets a bit on the difficult side finding anyone with any of the games I'll own to play with.
Also doesn't help that I've often sold off games I've found myself to be completely done with on the 360, lessening my library down a bit while I build a different console's library up, such as my Dreamcast or Wii.

I don't regret buying it when I did. I genuinely enjoyed my time with it. However at the point, I am a bit on the envious side of the PS3 owners. My 360's kinda been stuck playing nothing but Tales of Vesperia, movies from Netflix and Xbox Live Arcade titles. The most recent disc-based title I popped into the thing was my brother's copy of Fable II and I really can't muster up the urge to finish it.
I honestly looked through the library and asked for others to help list games that might interest me that weren't FPS' and I was honestly left with a lack of answers.
The only thing that's kept me from selling off my 360 is the very fact that my Live account has quite a number of games I'd love to keep. That and Tales of Vesperia isn't on the PS3 outside of Japan. If I didn't have either to worry about, I'd likely have jumped on the chance to get a PS3 right away.

Playstation 3 has a lot more value nowadays then the xbox 360 does
-
Be warned, though. PS3s made now don't have backwards comparability with PS2 games. Luckely I bought it early and can  .

I know :getlost:
It's very annoying. -
It's an annoying issue, but at the very least, they're working on re-releasing games as bundles in HD and what-not for a decent price.
$40 for all three Sly Cooper games in one package is a helluva deal.

If it wasn't for the fact that MGS3 will be remade on the 3DS, I'd be raging hard.
I'm leaning more towards the PS3 myself even though I only own a Wii.
