RE: Spy X Family
Good timing, I'm going to check out Code: White this weekend.
As for the manga itself, I recently caught up to the end of volume 11? It seems volume 13 was just released in Japan a month ago and volume 12 in English is coming out in August, so at least I'm not too behind now.

RE: One Piece Pirate Warriors 4 (Switch, PS4, XBox One, PC; 2020)
@FolhaS no joke, when I was a kid I was more familar with the games than the show, so when I DID watch the episodes with Raditz I was very confused why there was no Double Sundays...

RE: Funimation DVD Discussion IV (Please Check First Post for FAQ)
I've always found it odd that the earlier movies haven't been dubbed considering how huge One Piece is in now. And to get movie 8 dubbed first, THEN movie 9 skipped, but THEN Strong World dubbed.....??
I know the earlier ones are on the shorter side but maybe we'll get a compilation one day or something.

RE: Interviews with Cast and Crew Discussion
I don't think the Robin = Russian thing is set in stone, considering Luffy's VA is not Brazilian and Sanji's VA is not French - but YES X 1000 to keeping Robin's cowboy hat whenever possible.
-
RE: Chapter 1111: Sun-Shield
Okay the baseball was a new gag beyond the eyes, how about next Luffy uses paint to lead the Elders into hitting a wall, Road Runner style
-
RE: Chapter 1110: Starfall
I am very worried about Dorry and Broggy, they should escort Luffy and the others to Elbaf but there's now 5 Elders to deal with. Giant Robot to the rescue (or stalling)?
@Captain-M said in Chapter 1110: Starfall:
I'm ambivalent about the Zoro and Lucci fight as a whole. The outcome was never in doubt, and it was too offscreen to provide any real character interaction or clash of ideology to add substance. Zoro snapping and finding the motivation to take the win right away when Sanji talks him down is a decent bit for the two of them, but it's not quite enough to make the whole fight feel like more than padding.
Prettttty much, just enough to get Zoro away while Sanji+Luffy tangle with Kizaru and Saturn, and now that the Elders are here I'm guessing Zoro will block one of their attacks when he rejoins the fight.
Well they call him Lucci not Wucci.

The ultimate monkey's paw is finally being rid of Manchin and Sinema only to potentially have worse people filling their shoes.

RE: Dragonball Discussion Kai: Broly but this time it's not Broly
Never did I think I'd hear such news....
I don't remember when exactly Dragon Ball entered my life but I remember very distinctly watching it (the og, not Z!) on TV and really enjoying Goku's adventures, then I watched Z's old dub many many times on Toonami, then I soon read the manga proper....I've drifted in and out my Dragon Ball "phases" across the years, sometimes I was kinda indifferent to it, sometimes I was hyperfixated....it was always there, the root for all of my tastes and stuff. And I saw Battle of Gods, Resurrection F, and Super Super Hero in theaters - they felt like special events even after I was past my prime DB years.
But it also had all the video games that captivated me as a kid - still got Budokai 3 (best DBZ game on ps2 don't @ me).
One thing I can say is I adore the hell out of Toriyama's art - it's distinctly his and it's incredible to see it reflected on popular IPs of our time - Chrono Trigger, Dragon Quest, etc. And even now, Goku still stands as "the anime guy" for a lot of people, including myself. Maybe I'll get around to checking out some of his other stuff like Dr. Slump or Cowa, feel bad I never checked out his whole work.
Rest in peace Toriyama-san.

RE: Chapter 1109: Interception
I guess the question is, how do regular people know of the Elders? The WG likes their status quo and power so of course they would make available the idea that these five dudes are the leaders of the world. They don't make public appearances(?) so do schoolkids just learn descriptions and names, plus maybe a picture?
I personally subscribe to the idea that their warping, beast forms, Saturn's regen, the freezing, extended life - it's all tied to Imu. No duh, you say, but it'd be why, say, you can't just whack them all with seastone.
-
RE: Volume 108 Predictions/Discussion
The Mihawk tidbit is rather interesting, I don't think we'll get an extended sequence or anything but it's the most we've learned about him in 20+ years.

@electricmastro said in Chapter 1106: On Your Side:\
Oda even said that there are readers out there who might not even realize that Luffy was the first member of the Straw Hats, and could assume that the Straw Hat Pirates were started by someone else and that Luffy just inherited it.
???
Didn't even know this was a thing lol -
RE: Chapter 1104: Thank You, Daddy
Okay, that spread of Kuma smashing Saturn's face.....
I guess from the spoilers, I was picturing a different Kizaru expression, so when he says "I should've brought darker shades"....Idk, it still fits him in a more subtle sad way, like of course he's not the type to have the usual OP snot-coming-out-your-nose crying face or something.
-
RE: How much time do you think is left before One Piece ends?
Another thing I think about is Oda still has his original ending in mind, right? I'm sure as he's plotting the endgame he's thinking about how to get to this ending in spite of all the added characters and plotpoints....
although I've always felt said ending would be Luffy mirroring Shanks and passing his hat onto another pirate-idolizing kid, wishing him luck as he sets off for his own next adventure.

RE: One Piece on Netflix (12 June) !!
The episodes are all there on my end.
It's just so jarring to have this 500+ episode gap, like of course Netflix will (eventually) fill in the gaps but I'm imagining some person getting into OP through Netflex, watching the end of Marineford....only to stumble upon an episode where everyone looks different, Jinbei is there, they're talking about road poneglyphs, and Luffy got white hair in his poster.

RE: Next Straw Hat Crewmates (Vol. 10 - Egghead)
@electricmastro said in Next Straw Hat Crewmates (Vol. 10 - Egghead):
, I actually had this idea that Cross Guild goes to Wano and ends up winning favor from Momo and the others due to Buggy's connection with Oden.
You know, I like this idea. Another example of Cross Guild having the resources to be a dangerous threat (Buggy's connections, Croc's savvy, Mihawk's power), coupled with:
Yamato sails off with Emperor Buggy, like how Oden sailed off with Emperor Whitebeard.
I think it could potentially lead Yamato to further growth in how you shouldn't give people special treatment because they were friends with Oden
I REALLY like this idea. Yamato would be all over Buggy because of the Oden connection only to get shown a very different kind of adventuring.
bonus points if the Straw Hats learn and get shocked, Buggy really has this parallel version of Luffy's "get all kinds of people on your team" showmanship.
brief aside but I do wonder what the endgame role is for ol' Croc. Obviously Buggy is content to still be a pirate and search for treasure, Mihawk is cool with solitude and doing what he likes, but I wonder what he will do once the series is over. Maybe journey on his own (or with Daz Bones), or do some kind of other business. It's been interesting to pinpoint his trajectory.
(Vivi seemed fine that Robin joined Luffy's crew but she certainly wouldn't be pleased he technically freed Croc, so I wonder if that would be brought up)

oooooh MelonTree, I've watched a lot of her content. Thanks for the link!

RE: 1089: "A New Chapter! Luffy and Sabo's Paths!"
holy cow was that opening amazing! The art style, it focuses on upcoming arc stuff only (so not like a minute of the SHs fighting random dudes) - I especially liked:
-Sabo/Kid/Law/Coby's expressions transitioning into each other
-scrolling through all of Luffy's previous outfits, to show how far his journey has come -
RE: How much time do you think is left before One Piece ends?
@Nidhoeggr yeah, that pans out, there's just too much to go over.
-
RE: Non-Disney animation thread
I enjoyed the Scott Pilgram show - it made me watch the live-action movie (loved that too) and it does make me want to check out the comics proper. I understand that I'm experiencing the series essentially backwards but at first glance I THOUGHT the Netflix show was just putting whatever the movie cut out in animated, fuller form.

RE: Chapter 1103: I'm Sorry, Daddy
See, having Saturn practically gloat how he personally pried his way into Kuma+Bonney's lives as the insects he viewed them as....still hoping for the final pain bomb that gives him his just desserts....but realistically I think it's probably gonna be "wound enough for Luffy/Bonney to have the last laugh and flee"
-
RE: How much time do you think is left before One Piece ends?
I definitely thought Egghead would be quicker, but much to my pleasant surprise Oda gave Kuma's flashback time to settle in.....although it's a safebet to say Egghead will conclude within this year. Regarding Elbaf, I'm in the camp that it is one of the last if not the last that the Straw Hats will get to stretch their legs, explore, get the last lore dumps before the end stretch - the end war breaking out and Luffy+Blackbeard racing for the One Piece.
But between Shanks, the other Elders, Dragon, Sabo, Imu, Vivi, Vegapunk....there's a LOT of things to get through and while I don't think we have like 10 years left or anything, I don't necessarily want these holdouts to be buzzed through either. I guess 30th anniversary/2027 seems like a nice concrete point and minimum of three years(?) feels like enough to get what we need to get through while not totally skimping on the details.
2024 will be an interesting year, I feel.

RE: Chapter 1102: Kuma's Life
Finally read the full chapter - I think my favorite parts were Kuma being in awe over Luffy punching Charloss (furthering his idea that he's the embodiment of Nika) but just the panels of him running and having all of his loved ones call out to him.
He's had one of the most interesting pasts in the whole story and I do think he's not going to walk out of this...well, alive, be it in the most literal sense or just in the sense of being a mindless machine or not.
But be it explosion or pain bomb or what have you, I do hope he'll at least die with a smile.....seeing the legend his father instilled in him stay alive, and be assured that his daughter won't be alone. -
RE: Jump Festa 2024
@Gear-4-Sauce I feel bad because I blanked on Hajrudin lol, he's definitely more vital since he's part of the fleet
-
RE: Jump Festa 2024
There's also the question of what will have ON said island. Like will they have to take refuge while the heat dies down, will the Giants demand some kind of test from Luffy (it being in Shanks terrority right?), all while weaving in the preestablished lore - Dorry, Broggy, Oimo, Kashii, Prince Loki, etc.
-
RE: Marvel Movies Thread - Holy Shitballs
Could easily replace the "actor" but keep the "character" via some variant in-universe explanation.
-
RE: One Piece anime remake by Wit Studio
I know the dub reached the "he laughed" moment but what happened with the name? Because in English there's an unintentional pun to it, like "here's the actual name, and it will make you LAUGH". Even though in Japanese there's no difference phonetically.
-
RE: Jump Festa 2024
@Deicide said in Jump Festa 2024:
@MetaMario There's a difference between not going there next, and not going there at all. Elbaf is a lot like Fishman Island in that it's a place we've been hyped about for years. And what happened when Fishman Island was set as the next destination? Well, we got Thriller Bark, Sabaody, Amazon Lily, Impel Down, Marineford and the timeskip before we finally went there.
I see a similar situation here, thought I don't think the detour would be so extreme.
I think that is still a possibility.....perhaps it all hinges on how the SHs leave Egghead, and how dire things look after.
-
RE: 1088: ''Luffy's Dream''
it's funnier when you find out Hiroshi Naka (Garp) is only 63....younger than Shibata AND Mayumi Tanaka!
-
RE: Jump Festa 2024
Elbaf has been a lingering island on our minds since Little Garden, it'd be an odd path for Oda to go "gotcha!" and completely have Luffy and friends pass it by. They've made friends from it, Big Mom's story was connected to it - I can't see that glossed over.
-
RE: 1088: ''Luffy's Dream''
Apparently Dragon's VA (Hidekatsu Shibata) is 86 years old now. Holy moly.
-
RE: One Piece anime remake by Wit Studio
I think this is a perfect followup to all the buzz generated by the live action and also a lasting kind of thing for the series once it ends. At the worst it'll just a retread of the Episode Of stuff but i've seen a lot of positive buzz from this studio.
Wonder if they'll show more manga specific actions (ex. implying Zeff eat his foot outright instead of censoring it that he lost it in the rubble)
-
RE: Jump Festa 2024
There's still so much to go through, even when we're winding down. Like the Kuma-Bonney stuff is still not over, even though it was glossing over some stuff in the beginning, which is good! At this point the series will end when it ends; I really can't put a hard number on it, even now.

RE: The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, REALLY Love You
you know, given this series and what I already know off the bat that's....significantly more mundane than what I was thinking. Sidenote, the fact that you can writeup quite a bit makes me think the author (at least right now?) has a grip on the cast size. Still the more I learn, the more it's egging me on to at least read the first chapter or something.
-
RE: The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, REALLY Love You
Okay one stray comment said someone named "Chiyo" is even more of a filter? Dare I ask?
it seems the official English release is up to volume 8, not bad.
-
RE: Official Egghead Thread
Another question is still - how long does Egghead have left?
I thought Oda would aim for the 1100 chapter to be Kuma's flashback ending (no hard evidence, just something we all guessed) but there's a bit more to tell even IF it's just going over stuff the reader knows
the arc will surely finish in 2024, it's just a pitstop in a grand scheme of thingsI will hold onto my prediction that Kuma arrives and kills(!) Saturn with all the pain he suffered; Luffy's crew narrowedly escapes with Vegapunk and Bonney, leaving the WG reeling on what to do.
-
RE: Chapter 1101: To Bonney
I'm of the mind that the Gum-Gum Axe / "I'll protect my crew!" scene was more for the straight reference and it came off a bit too on the nose. Then again it's kinda wild to see pre chapter 1 Luffy with the context we know now - Bonney is about to set sail, Sabo is already an active RA, Kuma gauged his relation to his own father....none of these things were a "thing" when you start the first chapter, you know?
Alpha being a WG agent is one thing, but this heartless woman deprives a little girl of the letters her father wrote for her. So that punch was extremely cathartic, and it's just great to see Bonney have a support network in the Sorbet citizens. (Conney MVP)
I don't know what to make of the whole distorted future attack - on the surface I think Oda needed something else to pad the fruit's resume beyond "make baby or make old" and the concept of A future is vague enough that you can apply it to a fruit about aging.....after all, how these fruits are categorized don't exactly come with bullet points on what they're capable of, just summed up in one/two words. Let's see how it works in other ways I suppose. One theory I like is that because Bonney is a child now, her "possibilities" or "alternate futures" are numerous, versus when she gets older and has a solid life path. But then you also consider....does Distorted Future operate on the idea that even though she HAS a fruit now, she can act out other fruit moves (possibile future) even though she....physically can't eat another??

RE: Chapter 1100: Thank You, Bonney
@SirCaesar said in Chapter 1100: Thank You, Bonney:
The VIZ translation made me understand the timeline much better. So: at some point, before Kuma is fully turned into a machine, Bonney escapes the government's watch and forms a pirate crew. Presumably to search for her dad, or just because she turned 10 and it was time to see the world. This is how she ends up in Sabaody and why she is a supernova - they gave her a high bounty with the hope of catching her swiftly!
whoa, nice catch. In these shuffling events, minor details like that are totally going over my head.

RE: The New Nintendo Thread™
yeah some units will blaze through (like Sigurd or Brave weapon users) while others will struggle.
-
RE: The New Nintendo Thread™
Every chapter I started with arena run - it doesn't move turns in the outworld and it's a good way to get your units rolling. It is annoying to not be able to trade like more versions of fe, but money and exp have a feedback loop - get money+exp in the arena, unit A sells their ring to get MORE money while unit B bankrolls their purchase from - the arena.
It's tricky to a handle on it - keeping track of who has what - but towards the end I didn't mind it.

game lets you save every turn for a reason haha, chapters can take upwards to an hour.
highly recommend you keep rotating saves in case it's a sticky situation!

RE: Season 1 General Discussion
@Razh I know it's also reflective of how major One Piece battles have changed these days, but good lord I can't take anymore HUGE auras, lightning strikes, dbz sfx library
I'll give it up for the anime having moments that look good but the pacing still sucks that I don't think I'd regularly watch it ever again lol

RE: The New Nintendo Thread™
@Nobodyman said in The New Nintendo Thread:
On the subject, the exclamation point indicator for the remake is one of the things I'm definitely of two minds about. On the one hand, it is nice to finally get clarification on the timing of some attack and block timings (and I have no qualms about the "can't block" indicator), whereas in the original you pretty much had to figure it out for yourself. But on the other hand, and this could just be because I'm a veteran player, but I found that the exclamation point marker tended to throw off my timing sometimes. Thankfully it goes away after a while, but still.
And of course the perfect timing bonus throws a wrench into things to. It's a nice idea, and it is satisfying when you do pull it off, but oftentimes the perfect timing window eluded me to a frustrating degree. Which, eh, I don't know, maybe that's the point to motivate you to get better.
I kinda agree with all of this; it's been a while since I played the original so I can't even say if the timing window is the same - some moments the ! helps but in others (like Mallow's rain so far) I fuck up the timing every single time and it confounds me.
If you get good enough at the window you'll get meter build up so it does encourage you to get good, but I dunno, I feel like if I get used to all the ! and go back to play the original on a whim, I'd mess up every block.
, I'm going to dive in Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War. Regardless of the actual quality of the game, I still want to play it as a diehard FE fan.
I've only played it through once (can't get the emulator to work now) but I do recommend every FE fan play through, at least once.
