That D stand for dream. I will sum up this theory. Dragon's name is Monkey D. Dragon. He is the leader of the Revolutionists. Now, Donflamigo keeps on goin on about "The New Age". And "The era of dreams is over" So, maybe Bellamy and his crew took his words wrong. What Donflamingo was talking about "ending dreams" was ending Dragon's revolution, and starting his own. And that is the New Age, a era of strong pirates. Basically, Donflamingo is actually planning to overthrow Dragon, and "destroy those with Dreams." As in D members.
Now I am pretty dang sure…(spoilers)

Well, it's certainly a novel theory… and it works in English, but…
"Yume" starts with "y." :getlost:
-
But, dont forget that One Piece has a LOT of English words, and I could see then pulling a Dream in English for it.
-
That might be,tho i don't think that oda will let us know the meaning of the D. that soon,i think that i will take at least another arc to discover it.
Anyway about doflamingo i don't think that he has nothing against the D's,cause if it was like that he would have chased rufy the first time,i think that it's more like he wants to be the headliner of a new wave of pirates that will stand against the emperors and such. -
Terek thinks: All the "D" initials do not stand for the same thing, so it's up to the individual "D" to determine what his middle initial stands for.
Perhaps,
Monkey Duty Garp
Monkey Destiny Dragon
Monkey Dream Luffy -
I think it's a japanese word, Dereshi perhaps?

Monkey Destiny Dragon
Monkey Dream LuffyThat's what i was thinking too. One word for all of them wouldn't work, they are all too different.

or "destiny" =) hehe
-
Oda's playing with us throwing all those D words.
-
The D stands for Dump. As in the huge dump that all the D's will have to take at the end of the series from all the meat they eat.
No, seriously, the D is related to the ruling party of the Raftel Kingdom. Pretty simple.
-
No D stands for DEEZ NUTZ!
-
Methinks it doesn't stand for anything.
-
Who says we'll even ever GET a word that D stands for? Oda might just leave it at D fo' permanent.
-
**I have two ideas:
1.) The D = the ancient kingdom
2.) The D is different for everyone. It's the word that shows what's most important to them. They fill in the blank.**
-
I agree with Octogon (part 2 that is) the D will probrably be different for each and they themselves will defines what it means to them.
-
Octogan beat me too this thread. Stop stealing my opinions!!
:D
EDIT: His name could be Monkey Dragon Dragon.
-
D of Descendent of Ancient Kingdom (my favourite)
D of Dreams
D of Destiny
or just simple old D (kinda like the Simpsons Homer J(ay). Simpson) -
or just simple old D (kinda like the Simpsons Homer J(ay). Simpson)
**Hah. I can see it now.
Luffy: I've always wanted to know my middle initial.
parts grass
MONKEY DEE LUFFY**
-
I know I'm being a turd, but I couldn't resist.
If 'D' stands for 'Dream', then that makes Dragon's name Monkey Dream Dragon. The thought made me lol for some obscure reason :S
Money Dream Dragon? Of course it does!
EDIT: On a side note, does anyone see Dragon having narcoleptic fits like Luffy, Garp, and Ace?
-
Maybe its like that simpsons episode.
Its really "Dee"
-
I've thought of that possibility, too. Dreams and nakama are strong themes in One Piece, so it's plausaible, especially since the "D"s especially keep fighting for what they believe in.
And every time I come up with or hear a plausible theory, I remind myself that this is Oda and anything can happen.
-
Actually, could someone explain to me the Japanese significance of that initial. It's not a middle name, because if goes after the Family name of Monkey and before the given name. Right?
In english, would his name be Luffy D. Monkey? or Luffy Monkey D. ??
If the D is a second last name, then that would insinuate a Clan title. If it is a middle name, that would likely mean that they all have different D's.
In spanish it would simply be his mothers maiden name…. now wouldn't that be a shocker....
-
D stands for…
drum roll
D!! do–--n everyone faceplants
-
"Dleam"
> <<
-
We all know the D stands for "Desu~" /4chan
Jokes aside, have any of you considered that the D may not be supposed to be a letter, but rather an emblem or symbol?
-
A family name being the person's qualities? It makes me crack. Seriously, can you imagine anyone with Dream or Destiny as his family name [Err, okay, middle name]?
-
Some old thoery I had a while ago… I thought of the D as half a circle, an incomplete circle. I was wondering if thats why are lot of them are being drawn into big things - To complete the circle. Maybe the circle is to do with Raftel or the lost civilisation. But every D seems to fill us in with a little info, yet none of them seem to give much more then those bite-size info bits.
Hehee... It was actually a part of a a old 'One Piece' thoery. 'One Piece' being the end of the circle when its complete (it doubled with the Poneglyphs being in the same thoery too).
But as I same... This is a old thoery of mine.
-
i always tot that d = danger/dangerous or daredevil.

Someone's signature is making the page long… Hey fink82 mind shortening that?
