Personally, I like Paulie and I wouldn't mind if he joins but from the looks of it, it looks like Franky is joining. At first, I hated him for beating him Usopp, stealing 2 million beli and all. Now, I really love the guy. He's a great character and I can see him interacting with the other Straw-Hats. -
we won't know who will join yet….... maybe in another 3 to 4 chapters.....
my bet is on Paulie....

Paulie doesn't even fit in the group, unlike Franky, who seems a bit similar to other SH crew. When Paulie is a funny side character who don't have the same relax back attidute. So I bet all my 5 pennies for Franky joining. \o/

I have to think it's been stated pretty obviously that Franky is the new crewmate for the past, like, 30-40 chapters.
I don't want to discount Oda pulling an Oda and surprising us all, but Franky is the most obvious crewmate, Franky's who I want as a crewmate, and Franky's… pretty much already a crewmate.
All my internet money's on Franky as their new nakama, even at the risk of being blindsided by a crazy plot-twist (Yokozuna is a possibility!)

i was convince by the JUS scan that Franky is joining.
I mean out of all the one piece charaters out there they choose Franky,not a support but a battle Koma. Why? just so he can appear once then not be heard of again if that was the case he would be a help koma or just a support koma. -

Robin didn't have a flashback before she joined, neither had Nami. So that's not really a requirement, but it shows that Oda has put some time into the char atleast.

franky is going to join simply becuase he is the best shipwright at water 7. the strawhats are filled with people that are the best or want to be the best at what they do. paulie is nothing more than a apprentice ship builder so i count him out right away. one may make the case that iceburg is just as good as franky or even better but the diffrence is that franky builds war ship's and iceburg builds normal ships. the strawhats will need a unique ship that only franky could build that can be what they need and also be good in combat since they are now prime targets of the world goverment. one of the main reasons the going merry got screwed up was because they could not properly defend themselves against other marine war ships and franky is going to change that. franky wants to build a ship that will be able to sail all around the world and that's why he is perfect for the strawhats. he is striving for more he is not just happy building a ship he wants it to be the best just like many of the strawhats he is striving for more.

This is kinda off-topic. but I've always wondered why Iceburg wasn't at least as strong as Paulie. It takes a lot of strengh to be one of te two best shipwrights in Water 7. Perhaps all those days at the office took a toll on him.

The thing with Robin and Nami is that their flashbacks were intergral to their respected arcs and seeing them beforehand wouldn't fit the context of when they first met Luffy. Sure Nami said that pirates hurt the people she loved and Robin alluded to the fact that she had no where left to go to, but seeing Nami's flashback during Buggy or Robin's post BW wouldn't make any sense. I think Franky has the most going for him in terms of leaving where he is. I mean when they met Vivi (not her BW persona) for the first time the crew's main objective was to return her to Arabasta to warn the king of Crocodile and BW and stop an uprising. Her goal was ultimately accomplished and she was able to return to the life of a princess w/o the World Government actin' a fool in her kingdom. And she wasn't really inspired by Luffy to go for her dream of saving her kingdom because that was her goal from day 1.
Franky on the otherhand was a reject in Water 7 and was seemingly aimless in pursuit of his dreams. He like Vivi was introduced as a villian and came to their aid but instead of helping him directly achieve his dream ship they've instead showed him their strength and determination and seemingly did something he never could have thought been done before he met them and by that alone could very well be the spark that his gun powder needed to get going. I mean, in terms of joining it seems that Luffy or the Strawhats need to do something that encourages the person to achieve their goal rather then completely achieve and be done with it. Like before their meetings with Luffy all the others strawhat's dreams would seem impossible but usually he inspires them to go for it. And Paulie doesn't seem to even have a dream, whereas Franky's is seemingly impossible. But hopefully he will be inspired to pursue it and hopefully join. I could go on on why it'd make more sense as of right now for him to do so. But fuck it. I spent a good 5+ minutes churning out that mass of text and quite frankly I want to see the finale of Spiral thats on in 2 minutes. So, toodles.

You're probably right. I mean, look at Norland. He was probably one of the strongest people in the world at the time he first came to Jaya. The second time he came, he fell down to one punch from the King and didn't even resist. Guess that's what happens when you sit around for 5 years waiting for the government to approve something.
But all that aside, Iceburg did take (three, was it?) shots to the chest and still lived through it and recovered quickly. That takes a lot of stamina.

I've gotten the impression that politicans aren't too strong in One Piece. OR more precisely, Paulie is more of a supervisor when building ships.
And of course, he has the "strength" to build ships too–but that doesn't mean he's a fighter! Paulie's rope tricks, really, have little to do with shipwright work. They're probably just strong by concidence ather then strong due to work.

He's the first docks leader, one of the best in galley-la, taught by Iceburg himself, he's a fucking profesional, and you say that he's a mere apprentice builder? :S… No I'm not saying that he will join or that he's better than Franky, I just hate when people starts to make false statements.
And you say that Iceburgs doesn't makes warships? Then what kind of ships is he and his workers doing for the marines and pirate crews? And theres no proof that Franky is better than Iceburg, Iceburg has been doing this shit since he was with Tom, Franky has been doing other things than building and repairing ships the last few years from what we've seen.

Yeah. Pauly is the first man next to Iceburg in Galley-la. That pretty much says it all. And, although a genius shipwright and born with a natural gift, Franky probably isn't as good as Ice (at least as of now) who has been doing the trade forever.
Remember what Tom said: a ship is a ship.

They're strong cause of their work. Pirates come swarming everyday to get new ships and to repair old ones.

a pirate ship is a kind of warship…. with so many cannons, it probably won't be able to fight an actual warship, but it might be able to fight it at par for a little longer..... before it sinks....

I always thought that he is strong but Oda won't show it because he has other attributes as a character or something. But last week:

I don't think he used a crane (missing) or lever (there is no elevated position to the left because there is water) to put the merry upwards.

Merry must be 15-20 m I think so it is around 30-50 tons.
He didn't have to lift it all but only push it, ok, but even then I think that we could say that maybe he is strong in the class of Gan Fall / Pell / Dalton… But until the last episode I thought that he would be the equivalent to Cobra, for example.
Another point is that he was going with Tom to fight the people that was using the battle frankies to bomb the judicial ship. If he were a lot weaker than Tom I'm sure that Tom wouldn't have told him to go with him because he would only get in the way. And we know that Tom was strong. Maybe lifting ships is a family thing.

this question has bothered me for a week, why didn't the chapter come out thursday, is it because oda took a break? I don't want to sound annoying or anything, because I don't mind waiting.
Everyone knew in advance (2 to 3 weeks even) that Oda was taking a break on Issue 46 of Jump…. you must have missed the memo.....

The guys arguing for Franky miss an important part… One which makes Franky better then Iceberg as far as ship building goes. Franky has a ingenious designers mind. Remember his battle Franky's? Each one was a wierd design, Tom even admired Franky for it. Iceberg may be good, but he seems to be just a standard ship builder.
And to those who think they don't build warships... I don't know... But I remember Luffy and Franky fighting in Dock1, they destroyed a galleon being built between the pair of them.

Next chapter would be about the new ship ofcourse. And then pirate - pirate hunter - world goverment's reaction to SH. That 's gonna be scandalous alright. New bounty + new crew member hopefully.
I hope they have a supper small supper fast super powerful ship. How about a flying / submarine ship ?Ok ok, how about this?
SH and Galley - LA go back to W7. WG ships caught up. They were like: oh shit, another buster call or something ? And then they decide that SH and Robin and Franky have to leave as soon as possible. That will make Franky a new crew member. And then they was like, Galley - LA will give you a new ship but afraid it won't be good enough to get out of WG siege. And then Franky was like: ooh hang on, I have Pluton ship built, in smaller size, with super power and speed and shit. And then SH will sail away with super speed, after sinked like half of WG ships. That will give SH a break so the world government won't be after their ass for awhile, and that would save W7 too. A super fast ship is important because you don't want to see SH fight with marines/pirates every inch of water they sail by.
Oh, SogeKing will be in WG black list too since he sinked half of WG ships, how about that? -
I think this chapter is really going to slow the pace for a minute at least.
Since Akojiki is there Spadam isn't leading his own revenge assault on the Strawhats just yet. The wg needs some time to regroup. So I'm guessing the loose ends will be tied up in water 7 -
Really don't think the new ship will be introduced in the next chapter, way too early, i'd say 2-3 chapters before we see it completed at least.
It's hard to predict what the next chapter is going to be about though.

maybe it will show the Mugiwaras figuring out what to do next, then Iceburg summons them to Gallery-La / port to show them something (of course it's the new ship),
but the final panel will only show part of the woodwork…... then it continues to the next chapter..... -
