It looks like Zoro's sword really DID get broken. The marine snaps it in three pieces; and then the next frame with Zoro, it looks like he's stolen a Marine's sword.
good thing it was his weakest sword and not wadou ichimochii or the 3rd demon slasher…
its the one with the black hilt and black scabbarb which the swordshop owner at logue town gave to him for free. I hope he thouroughly pwned that marine for melting/rusting/disintergrating one of his swords.

I do not think anyone could claim this and last week's chapters were better than when Gear 3 was introduced.

I don't think it's meant to be. Dropping the "climactic" feel for a moment can help to make the finale all the more satisfying.

Ditto again. I liked Croc's fight, but really, much of the "real" fighting was when Luffy started to be the snot out of him. Lucci's one of the first that's REALLY been able to stay (physically) at the same level with Luffy (aside from perhaps Arlong).

Luffy/Lucci is boring and dragged out as all fuck, but with what's happening beside it and what's bound to happen later I don't think there's much to complain about.

I am liking the Lucci versus Luffy fight. It just seems like a good, classic shounen battle to me. But I am looking forward to seeing what is going to come next after this is over.
And holy shit on Zoro's sword! That is going to be really interesting to see how Oda handles that. I wonder if replacing or repairing it will be a big deal in the next story arc, or if it will be handled quickly. Too soon to say.

Zorro losing one of his sowrds, I think it was time to change one or two of them after this arc, remember that those swords was from a lower class than the most powerfull sword in the world, if I remember it was said in Log Town arc. increasing his abbilities and strengh was reaching its limits so I think the idea of Oda is to add a new and more powerfull weapon for Zorro.
Ussop's Call for Luffy will be, as I said in an old topic :wub:, the button or the reason that wil push Luffy out of his limits, like in his others battles ( against crocodile was the sound of the bomb destructing Alabasta, and with enel he remembered Conis crying and remember Ossan and his Gorrilaz searching for Norland treasures). anyway .. let's see that in the next chapter, 5 chapters for this battles to end , 2 for the end of Luffy vs Lucci, one for SH VS BUSTER CALL AND ANOTHER FOR FRANKY FAMILLY come back.
Sanji is the most smart of the SH team , he's for sure going to protect the escape ship, or dammage the BC ships from inside to stop any further pursuite.

Even though the fight has been going on this long, i'm still enjoying it :)
However, I feel a bit jipped with the other SHP fights now. Lucci is at least twice as strong as the next CP9 member, yet i feel as though the other CP9 members lost alot easier than they should have. But I guess that was all because they're (the SHP are) gonna have a hell of a time fighting these 200 captains right now.
The Luffy vs. Lucci fight is going kinda how I expected. From the time I realized that Lucci would be the final opponent, I thought… man, how is Luffy gonna defeat someone that is actually physcially stronger than he is, and so far Oda has been proven that Lucci is quite the badass when it comes to physical combat. He's been taking a beating from Luffy for a while now, and I think any of Luffy's previous opponents would have definitely gone down by now with all those Gear Attacks.

Old GSR family proverb, you can not win every fight, just survive them. The fight against Luffy and Lucci has became a background situation for the most part since a lot more important events have been taken place. Still the fight has became something of a pure last man standing fight. Since both men will not stop until they are ether unable to fight or dead. Just how I like my fights too.
If the Straw Hat's lose the fight, I have a actual theory of what might happen. The Straw Hat's will be locked up and then two years past. Oda will then continue the story from there. And all of us One Piece fans will start crying because One Piece sank to the storyline bitterness of Naruto.

I was actually thinking something similar but different. I was thinking that Luffy almost knocked Lucci unconscious with his 1st Gigant attack, and maybe this is Luffy's turn to go almost unconscious and then get back up and go again, this would make them even, and then we'll have our final showdown and longest fight in OP history so far …

My opinion is that the fight (and the Buster Call) will be over by Chapter 429 or 430, so that the next volume begins and ends with the Buster Call. As such, we may have to be prepared to see the fight going for more 3 chapters at least.
My opinion is that Usopp's moment has come. I don't think he will defeat Lucci, but I don't think he will just be beaten AGAIN (3rd time in the arc!). If that happens, then there's no character development for him. I think, however, that Usopp will save Luffy somehow, and then Usopp & Luffy will defeat Lucci together. The perfect closure for Usopp's long road to return to the Strawhats.
(on a side note… maybe Luffy uses Gomu Gomu no Ally Robot to trap Lucci, and then Usopp gives his best attack to a defenseless Lucci? hah, I am joking of course, but like I said last week, it would be fun to see Lucci being defeated by Luffy's OTHER new technique of this arc.)

Hey, remember that Croc has white eyes from just the first punch of "Luffy vs. Croc" round two. Otherwise, yeah, Luffy is down but no, he's not out.
I kind of like that the fight has taken this turn. I don't remember the last time an opponent has given Luffy this much trouble, save for Crocodile.
It's nice to see Robin's handling those 200 captains so well, yet weird to see Franky and Zoro struggling with them. And hey, even Nami's tasering them.

Imo this fight quite dampens the relevance shonen logic has in OP.
One upgrade introduced shortly before and a second during the fight and neither got luffy the upper hand.

Uh, I would think so. Luffy v. Lucci is nearly eighteen chapters in length; Luffy v. Croc rounds one, two, and three were nine total. Croc was also a much less boring villan than Lucci, so this fight has been a total and utter waste of time.
Lucci's done a couple interesting moves but nothing comparable to Fukurou, let alone Kumadori, Califa, Jyabura, or Kaku.
As far as length goes, you have to realize how little space they have been taking up in each chapter. Crocodile took far longer to go down, but you break each part into rounds. But with so much bias I guess you would complain even if Lucci clumsily walked away each time he dropped Luffy.

His other two swords have significance (one from Kuina, one chose him), but the Yubashiri was just given to him.

Agreed. Correct me if I'm wrong but for most of the chapters hasn't the fight been shown on a couple of pages to half the chapter since it's started? If so then, after taking out the bits with the other strawhats, I doubt it would be overly long, maybe nine chapters max. Now if it was eighteen or whatever chapters of pure fighting, I'd agree it's as dragged out as most Naruto fights.

Anyways, alot of stuff was happening during the fight between Luffy and Lucci. I feel it's dragging a little bit, but considering the type of opponent Lucci is, it wouldn't be right to make him go down so easily. This is the fight that's showing us Luffy's physical prowess. I mean we knew he was strong, but most of the major villains he fought weren't really giving him a challenge physically.
Too bad the one sword that was broken didn't get to show anything special. Maybe the next one he gets to replace it will have some significance.

I don't know if Funkfreid(sp?) is right for him but it would have some extremely badass plus weird attacks to Zoro's list. Whta really made me go wtf, was when one weird marine guy just manages to break his sword like nothing. Like the before poster sai, "Broken fro msome random guy." Maybe Oda wanted to show Zoro picking up a new sword but couldn't find enough room to put that scene in(or page). So he must assume that with all these marines on the ground there must be a dozen swords he can pick up.
