Aha, these next few weeks are going to be filled with my favourite B- episodes of the series.

Lesbian love is gonna take America by storm. LoL
Kubo does seem to like his lesbians, though there are only two real pairings in the series (in spoilers since one is for much later..and its based off Wiki and other stuff):
! -Orihime/Chizuru: This one is more of a silly pairing since Chizuru is always playing aroung and Tatsuki is always keeping her in line. Unfortunately, since Chizuru is more of a minor character after the intro arc, it doesn't get developed. (imagines her with spiritual power)
-Soifon/Yoruichi: The really big one later in the series, to the point where the second-squad captain has a "black cat" obsession to hold her down when the dark-skinned female isn't around! Too bad she tries to kill her when they fight! -

Enjoy or something

Ugh, I did not like Urahara's voice at all.
-
-
Does anyone else feel the characters state the obvious?

Man watching this episode really made me love that hollow guy over and over again. Damn he's so cool.
I loved uruhara's and chad's voice.
-

Often times this happens in shonen manga, for example, in One Piece during the Baratie arc, the random Krieg pirates narrate the battle. Except in Bleach, their typically are not characters watching the fights, so the fighters narrate via pointing out obvious things.
I thought the episode was great. Chad and Urahara's voices are excellent, and I can't wait for the next episode. I'm wondering how they're going to translate the shikai commands. I think it would be preferable for the release command in English and then the name of the sword in Japanese. Scatter, One Thousand Cherry Blossoms is kind of wordy. :P
-
I really do not like Urahara's voice at all. It just gives a different mood. It doesn't sound right for him at all.
-
The lines "say hello to my little friends" and " Before I slice and dice you…" annnoyed me, but other than that, good dub.
I'm still waiting till next week for judgement on Urahara's voice.
-
That Hollow's voice acting was of the highest quality in any dub I've ever seen. He carried the whole episode; Chad's prescence wasn't even needed. Incredible, just…man, that actor is right up there with the best like Jim Cummings, Tim Curry, Rob Paulsen, Frank Welker, Lani Minella, Grey DeLisle, Maurice LeMarche; awesome.
...
Urahara's actor is Michael Lindsay, who is a fine actor but doesn't fit Urahara's bearing at all. Also, translating "naraku" as "underworld" was just stupid, as it's quite obvious there are multiple underworlds in Bleach and "hell" was the specific one that Hollow went to.
…
That's pretty much it; I'm not watching this dub anymore. It had a nice run.

OMFG!!!!!!!!! THES FUXED UP BLEACH!!!!!!!!! IT'S NOT EX-ACTLE THE WAY I WANT IT TO B E! IT SUX MORE THAN ANY OTHER DUBZ!!!!!!!
Seriously, how can you be upset about a minor change like that? Compared to every other dub, this one is the closest we have ever come to being the way we want a dub. The problem comes is when translations have sublties that you have to take your best guess at. I'm not looking for perfection, I'm just looking for them to do their best effort at a faithful translation. In my opinion, they have done that, and I'm sure they will have a Japanese track on their dvd releases as well.

Exactly why Viz Media's dubs are so retarded. They're too scared to put any creativity or enthusiasm into their dubs because they need to recoup their enormus licensing fees and they can't risk losing their niche market. It's weeaboo demands like from the internet fandom that caused B- and N- to end up as they are today.
Case in point; other shows, specifically those from Toei, are on an entirely different level of dubbing than N- and B-. Zatch Bell (Viz) and Bobobo (Toei) are illustrative of this; they're cheaper than Pierrot's shows and therefore can be subjected to more localization.
Believe it or not, Viz isn't making hands-over-fist profits with the N- and B- franchise. High selling manga isn't exactly something to brag about since the manga is being sold at set price anyway; Viz is losing money, and they haven't recovered their investment in DVD sales.

I've come to accept the fact that there wherever there is a dub, there will ALWAYS be complaining, people just have different standards of what they think is good. So far, this dub hasn't been PERFECT but it's sure as hell kept my interest every week since it first aired
And of course the DVDs (Which are due out in November) are going to have the original Japanese track and uncut footage. As long thats in place, I really couldn't care if they renamed the main character "Ivan Van Mondeguard" or whatever
-
Me personally I dig the dub (although this is really my first exposure to Bleach in any form). DUbs are all about preference, no dub is really good or bad, it depends on how u look at it. I agree with everyone else tho, that Hollow's voice was excellent, I really felt his evilness (not a word). I also love this Chad guy. Can't quite place why I like Chad, I just do. So far, I like the Bleach series but When does it really start to pick up?
-
The story starts getting really good around episode 16. Anyway, I liked this episode. The hollow's voice was perfect and Chad's voice is really good. The only thing that I dislike about the Bleach dub is that they keep using underworld instead of hell, but that's just a minor complaint.

OK, I finally saw the fifth ep…but I think I need to probably say a few things...mostly in spoilers since what I'm about to say has a couple of them:
! I'm a newbie to Bleach like a lot of people watching the CN run, but I've been doing a bit of personal research on the series through some various sources: Wikipedia, Youtube, the local bookstores, even a scan site someone pointed out earlier in this thread. While I mostly want to just watch the anime and make my own decision, I've come to realize that Kubo seems to have the potential to create a great manga…he just doesn't realize it. The early episodes of the series show off that he does have a good tenacity in creating character development and dialogue, perfectly blending the action, drama and comedy in equal pieces to create a unique hybrid. In the most recent episode aired on CN, I felt the shame of the actions of the most recent Hollow and he is treated as a bastard both in life and in death...but he still exhibited personality and such. I also seemed to like how we had Chad taking part in his first "spiritual battle" without even knowing it yet, while at the same time coming to terms about the fate of him and the parakeet. And of course we have all the stuff involving Rukia and Ichigo...they like each other and don't know it yet :p.
! Looking through a lot of other things, it does show that these sorts of sparks do appear here and there throughout the Bleach manga at least. As many characters as Kubo creates, he at least tries his best to show personality and interaction as best he can for the time and such. I looked ahead and happened upon the very first appearance of both Kenpachi and Gin, which is probably used to build up suspicion on what's going on in the Soul Society, but shows a great interaction including seeing the "closed eyed" captain carrying everyone's favorite battle-loving warrior away! A great scene in itself. Similarly are some of the various omake chapters that Kubo created (which are slightly possibly the inspiration of the Shinigami Cup clips at the end of recent Bleach anime episodes). The characters, human and supernatural, are able to shine in who they are. (personal preference in Yachiru..Matsumoto too but partially because I'm a pervert and I like how she torments Hitsugaya) Heck, I was even impressed with a new chapter I glanced at with these comedic Hollows as the main characters wander around the desert wasteland of Hueco Mundo!
! But sadly, as amazed as I was with the potential Kubo shows for the series, I decided to look at some of the stuff that people make out as the "core" of the series: the battles...and frankly I wasn't impressed that much. Maybe I just have a weird preference in a certain manga style, but the battles seem like your typical shonen battle with swords. The one in particular I examined was Ikkaku vs. one of the Arrancar..which basically went something like this:
-Ha, I am powerful!
-No, I am powerful and I'll show off my weapon to prove it
-Well I'll transform into a more powerful form, now you can't stop me!
-Well I have access to the super-powerful form that no one my level is supposed to know (yeah, there's more to Bankai than that, but I am sort of acting silly), so now I will kick your butt!
..and so on. Did a similar thing in the bookstore looking at the Ishida/Mayuri fight (Nemu is underrated, but that's besides the point), and it went pretty similarly. Maybe its just me and my preference to watching my action battles instead of reading them (why I held off on both this and Naruto until they were animated..and dubbed), but I sure hope the action is animated well, because while Kubo can draw probably a good fight, the scenarios...well, you just read.
! So my impression is this: I'm going to keep watching and hopefully enjoy the episodes of Bleach as they air on CN. When Soul Society comes, hopefully the battles will seem better than how Kubo draws them...but mostly, I think I'm just going to lament on what could have been. Then again, while it took Togashi 2 volumes to change YYH from a "comedic-type series" to the story we know and love, it took Kubo five and a half volumes (a year in collection time) to change Bleach from the fun action/comedy/drama with potential into..well, whatever it is now. -
I don't think Bleach is "great" by my definition, but I do think it's a fun enjoyable series. I think you have to understand that Tite Kubo is quite young(twenties) and this is only his second manga(first being the four-volume Zombie Powder). From what I've read, he also has no expierience as an assissatant or anything(unlike Oda and others) and starting drawing manga on a whim(he heard about a contest). So, putting that in mind, I think it's clear why Bleach dosen't live fully to the "potential" you speak of.
What I don't understand is your comaplints about the fights. I've always felt TK's strong point was drawing fights and that they were overall the best part of Bleach.

I think my complaint about the fights is that while they may or may not look good (as I said, I rather reserve them until animated), they so far look like typical Shonen fare.
I did also read somewhere that he is rather young for a mangaka…but I guess if he did spend time as an assistant, who knows what he would be like. Not to mention what he could create after this as his big followup.

Where are you lot getting these dubbed B- episodes?

Where are you lot getting these dubbed B- episodes?
Mostly I just tape them on my DVR cable box Saturday night and watch it sometime in the week.
-
I like Chad's voice, Urahara's voice is fine, I hope Steve Blum plays Gin Ichimaru's voice
-
Rukia said "Do as he says" to Chad, but could Chad hear him?
-
Where are you lot getting these dubbed B- episodes?
Off of my video capture card. But I bet you knew that already.
Also, would you like me to keep the video size as is or have it at the standard 640x480 resolution? (or do you not care?)
Last but not least: AWESOME Chad mini-arc. I can't wait to see the next arc… but I can't remember its subject...

Ugh, Jinta's voice is far too kiddy sounding.

Ururu's dub voice sounds very cute

@Advent`:
Ugh, Jinta's voice is far too kiddy sounding.
QFT.
Also kon doesn't sound anything like his japanese va, but thats ok since I actually imagined that type of voice when I had read volume 2. (It changed and became more hyper when it was in his doll). I love uruhara's voice though
-
I think Urahara's voice is gonna keep me from watching the dub at all until the episodes with him stop. It sounds way too young, and the tone and pitch seem to not fit. Meh.
-
Urahara's voice, is it done by the guy who does kankurou?*
-
@DougyDougyGiro!*:
Urahara's voice, is it done by the guy who does kankurou?*
Yeah, I thought I heard Kankuro/Joe Kido as well. Maybe he has some puppets in the back of the shop…
The episode in itself was passable: I did like the new characters at the Urahara Shop (though I feel sorry for Ururu for consistantly being picked on) and "Kon Ichigo" has a mischievous VA. My main problem is that the episode felt like it was moving too fast, trying to get through this story as I've heard the early part of this anime is (moving in hyper drive to get to Soul Society sooner). Oh, and another complaint from looking at the manga: they cut out a bit of the three-way between Orihime/Tatsuki/Chizuru!
-
@Tokoro:
Oh, and another complaint from looking at the manga: they cut out a bit of the three-way between Orihime/Tatsuki/Chizuru!
That bit wasn't in the original, Japanese anime either.
I thought that this episode was really good. I really like Urahara. Quick question, does the VA (for the original) change his voice whenever he goes from Kon-Ichigo to teddy bear-Kon? Or is that Ichigo's VA in Ichigo's body? How does that work? It's been a while since I saw the originals.
-
I kind of have to agree with Tokoro on the fights, but for a different reason. Namely, in the manga, Kubo seems to waste quite a bit of time creating massively large panels, forcing many of the fights to take longer than they should (as well as the complaint of it being a bit too "typical Shonen"). This is why I'd like to see the anime sometime (no cable, meh…) just to see if the fights are handled better.
And if anything, I'd say I enjoyed most of the Hollow fights a bit more than the recent Soul Society ones (I'm now at teh Kenpachi fight, and still haven't been all that impressed).

Just so you know, Viz told the producers to make sure Kon's name was pronounced "Cone".
-
Isn't that how it is pronounced?
-
@EvilGamerX:
Isn't that how it is pronounced?
Yes it is.
Kon: Cone
-
reviews the same episode in Japanese
Nope. Sounds different to me. -
In the manga it says コン
You know ko = コ and n = ン
Wow, that was rocket science.Again, ko, not ka… but ko.
-
Alright, alright, alright. Enough of pronounciation, and let's just get on with uploading the new episode to Megaupload, shall we? :)
-
I know I'm right too.
So yea, on with the upload of the ep.
-
And the "Nice Angle" joke was kept intact…somewhat.
-
I thinnk they proved me wrong from episode 1 and proved that Kon's voice is good for his character. Lots of people told me his voice sucked, anybody think otherwise?
-
I like Kon's English voice a lot now. It fits him well.
