Buce is a troll, he should join my crew.

I don't see what putting my photo up is gonna achieve out of this. Take a joke.

@Kaba:

Seems he does have some skill.
-
Some skill.
Anyways, looks like I won't be able to catch the premiere of the anime because of Thanksgiving dinner and the fact that I don't know the Institution number for my Credit Union. Them's the breaks.
-
Could be worse. I'll be at work.
-
It has better pacing than Bleach, better main characters than Naruto, focus on support characters without going overboard, and a story that actually is going somewhere rather than being made up as it goes along.
I underlined the wrong stuff.
-
@Kaba:
Hmmm…I knew that key to the troll cage went missing somewhere. :ninja:
Thank God that people are finally starting to see that the Tower of Paradise arc wasn't as bad as it originally was. I thought the pacing was great to be honest, aside from a few OHKOs and the fight between Jeral and Natsu was also awesome! It seemed like after Phantom Lord, people wanted an Alabasta. Since when do mangakas need to follow Oda's rules?
As for the anime, I just have a couple of questions:
1. Does Crunchy Roll accept Paypal?
2. If the answer to 1 is yes, can they accept it from credit unions or standard banks?
@Kaba:
Some skill.

Why would you pay an anime website money just to watch an anime when this series will more than like ally be subtitled by other subbing groups that aren't crunchy roll not to mention someone else will probably take it off of crunchy roll and put it on one of those free sites.

Is the episode out ?
-
Just finished screenshots for the first ep.
!
I'm pissed off cause I lost the shots for the opening, but they do show a good number of notable guild members in it.. they also gave a NICE shot of Erza in her Titania armor.
-
The episode just went up Central time. Since I'm not a premium member, I could only watch the opening monologue and most of the opening.
The opening monologue was beautifully handled IMO but I'm not sure how I feel about the opening song. It doesn't exactly scream memorable to me…unless you enjoy hearing all the Oh Yeah chorus lines.
bangs head Dammit! I wanna watch!
-
Just watched it on Crunchroll and it was awesome! (I got tired of waiting around and decided to sign up for the free trial)
It sure did bring back memories of the first chapter and I love Happy's voice!
! one thing I noticed was that at the end when the military came in, they didn't put in that big knight armor guy: http://www.onemanga.com/Fairy_Tail/1/74/
! I know this is not really important, bit it just seemed to stick out for me -
I heard that Horriblesubs is doing a Crunchyroll rip of the first episode. Anyone care to confirm or deny?
BTW, there should also be a new chapter for the manga out sometime today or the next. Be on the lookout on One Manga.

FUNKIST sure loves their Oh Yeahs!
-
Opening's nice, though it is a bit strange that his powers weren't showcased when he's one of the main quartet. Still, I found it a bit funny how he was shown amidst the rubble of a recently-destroyed building. Fairy Tail's specialization in property damage indeed.
Ending was a typical super-deformed, cutesy affair, though I liked how the ''break into Lucy's house'' gag made it in.
-
Good first episode. Animation is very normal, which makes me think they're aiming for a long run here.
Now the opening is ok (Happy winking was kinda embarassing though), and the ending…ah, the ending..let's just say it's terrible.Maybe they're trying to get the otaku audience with this kind of ending sequence and the Aya Hirano overdose, she's plaguing even the preview.
-
Je, happy has cheeks way too big XD
-
Will downlod & watch - Nice to know that by 4.00 PM on a Monday the episode is viewable for me. makes thinsg much easier than staying up late like for DBZ & One Piece
-
Opening is pretty average; which is totally fitting. I was expecting something a little more up-beat, with scenes of Natsu propelling himself through the air with his magic, landing on ships full of generic pirates and wrecking shit. Nice enough, though.
Unfortunately, won't be able to watch it until I get home from work tonight.
-
I'm about to watch at crunchy later!
-
Indeed horriblesubs are. I have two links if anyone wants them.

yeeh, it finally aired. I'm happy it airs on monday, so that I have something to watch today. Opening could be better but I'm not dissapointed.
Looking forward to the next episode. -
So which fansub group is subbing this?
-
pay at crunchy! anime shouldn't be free
And yet…I watched it for free through keyhole tv and if you lived in Japan you could watch it for free on the tv station. hmmm......interesting.
@Alien: Cruncyroll has already put out their subs. IEATANIME will be putting out some and there is one more group I think that is subbing it.

I sure Instantz is the other group cause I translated a few chapters of fairy tail in the past for them
EDIT: NOTE I'M WRONG THEY AINT SUBBING IT! -
Instantz may not be subbing it but they put up Horriblesub's subbed version. I got used to the magic circles but they seem to be commonplace for mages to use. The animation for magical spells look well done, but my computer or veoh couldn't show the spells at its best quality.
Also. I don't know if its the voice actor or just the personality of the character in general but I didn't like Lucy at all this episode.
-

Lucy doesn't earn her comeuppance until the end of the Phantom Lord arc and that's still a ways off.
While the fansubs would be tempting, I'll still feel guilty about it. I'm just gonna wait until tomorrow to watch the episode.
-
I expected more action in the opening (some haruka kanata(naruto) and boys and girls(KHR) style song probably) but it wasnt bad…if they are going for a long run there will be more openings in the future.

This opening reminded me of Crazy Rainbow a lot.
Except that pulling a Crazy Rainbow as your very first opening isn't a very good idea.. -
Well, this is the series's first opening, so I think it's a good idea to be an introductory one. I like it much better than Crazy Rainbow at any rate; there's much more going on in it than just the main characters relaxing around with cameo appearances by three characters who had absolutely nothing to do with the current story line.
-
It is better than Crazy Rainbow, yeah, but CR is the first opening sequence that crosses my mind when i see an uneventful one like this. I think a first opening should be more energetic..i mean, you don't need to show the characters doing nothing to introduce them properly.

Just Watched it, loved it - it was great.
Amazing animation, nice voices & the Subs by HorribleSubs were great. -

lol pretty interesting 1st eps cant wait till when Lucy meets every1
-
I saw Loki. Everything is fine.
-
Saw it, pretty decent, though I noticed a few small things were cut out like the scene with Siegrain and the council complaining about Fairy Tail and the guy with the branding iron. Still no biggie for me, though. Everything was nice and colorful, though I would've appreciated a bit more animation.
-
-
I just saw the episode and I've got to say the animation was so bad, it would have made me drop it immediately if I wasn't a fan of the manga. Seriously, it looks like they used like 3 frames for some actions scenes altogether. This is not how a first episode should look like.
Other than that, I'm a little bothered by the absence of Luxus in the opening, but then I remembered he was introduced later in the manga, so we won't be seeing him until the 2nd opening…that is if they even decided to get the Luxus arc animated.
-
pay at crunchy! anime shouldn't be free
fuck crunchy roll.
EDIT: well I watched it off of Anime Shippuuden, that was a very entertaining first episode.
-
I don't know about this episode. The animation wasn't very fluid at points, and some of the jokes seem watered down. I also need a little while for the voices to grow on me, because I'm not 100% on them right now.
We'll see how it goes.

Shut your mouth already.
-
Just finished watching the episode. I wasn't that thrilled with some of the changes they did but as a first episode it wasn't that bad, maybe a little rushed. It felt like they were trying to fit to much into the time slot. Considering the first chapter is just about 80 pages long I think they did a good job. Be interesting to see how the anime plays out.
-
So I downloaded the Horrible Subs rip of the first episode and here are my thoughts:
-first off, serves me right for allowing a trailer to dictate to me the quality of animation. While the fight scenes were nicely animated, the casual scenes looked embarrassingly bad! I even caught a few scenes where Happy looked terribly off-model!
-The voice acting was great! Aya Hirano really fit into her role and Natsu actually grew on me by the end of the episode. Happy's voice was dead on too! I can't wait to hear the others by the next episode.
-Scripting. I agree that the pacing for this episode seemed rushed in certain instances and some liberties were taken (such as Bora's "Prominence" attacks) but in the end, it was passable and very entertaining. By the end of the episode, I was eager to see more!
-Music and sound effects were great too! The doorbell effect to Lucy's summoning of the celestial spirits was a nice touch and the Celtic themes seem appropriately fitting for the show. The episode gets a 4 out of 5 for me. While the animation and character designs need some desperate improving (which I hope will get fixed for the DVD releases), the rest of the show was bang on for entertainment value. Definitely will be following this!
-
@Fiasco.:
Shut your mouth already.
I lol'd.
Aw, sweet! It's finally here! You know what that means? I get to double-up on my useless tl;dr bulleted lists of observations now! A great day in not-blogging, to be sure!
- Generic Introduction before the episode. Caught me off guard, when I expected to see Gerard Gerarding the first scene of the anime. It's not really a useful introduction in the least, as I'm sure everything stated was pretty much common sense, but it was swell enough.
- We're hearing the voices for the first time; in full-effect, anyways.
- Happy: Not quite what I was expecting. I was always pictured him with a normal voice, not a squeaky little sidekick voice.
- Natsu: I hate to admit it, but I guess I really have been reading Natsu's lines with a voice more along the lines of Mayumi Tanaka. I'm sure it'll grow on me.
- Aya Hirano: Your charm has worn off, and you're only going to curse this anime by making it difficult to get a second season in a timely manner. There's zero potential for this to become long running because of you. Go back to singing your music, and leave the acting to the voice actors. That being said; Totally average performance.
- Bora: He worked for me, and his Engrish is awesome. I think I actually like him a lot more now.
- Going by this first episode, the opening sequence, and promotional stuff we've seen until now, it's pretty safe to say that most of the character designs are significantly different from the manga. Not just color schemes either. The characters don't look like they were rejected from One Piece any more.
- There was some pretty weak animation scattered around this first episode, and there was nothing truly impressive to counteract that. I'm beginning to fear Hirano totally sucked the budget dry. /blamehirano EDIT: No, there was some piss-poor animation that seemed to consist of a couple key-frames and absolutely no in-between animation. A ton of scenes where one person is moving, and everything else on the screen is frozen solid until they're given the cue to shutter back and forth between two frames of movement. That kills the atmosphere of a busy town. It feels like the characters are all alone. Lazy/cheap as fuck. The CGI didn't look that bad, I guess.
- I still hate the restaurant scene. This is the one thing I really hoped they would rewrite for the anime. "lol, Hey, I'm Lucy! I'm a Wizard. Oh, you're a retard, so you probably don't know basic facts about magic or society, so I'm going to explain it to you without giving you a chance to reply. I'm helpful!"
- PROMINENCE WHIP!
- PROMINENCE WHIP!
- PROMINENCE WHIP!
- HOLY CRAP, WHY IS THIS MY NEW FAVORITE SPELL?
- Music was pretty average. Didn't seem to stand out all that much, although I did like the theme for when Lucy was summoning Aquarius. The doorbell was a… nice touch?
- Did Aquarius always levitate in mid-air? I thought she stuck to the water for the most part.
- Bora has some new spells.
- Uhh… Nice ED? I guess?
Final Verdict: Weak showing. The animation stuck out like a sore thumb, and it really didn't capture the feeling I had when I read the manga originally. I wouldn't blame anyone who dropped it after this episode. Still; I didn't come to love Fairy Tail because it's an excellent series, deserving of an A-Grade anime to compliment it. It's enough to satisfy me on a weekly basis. The only factor left of importance is the show's run-length, and exactly how they plan to make use of it. I don't remember seeing any villains other than Seigrain in the OP.
Oh, and CrunchyRoll used the Del-Ray terminology. That's bonus points in my book.
tl;dr
-
if i wasn't already a fan of the manga, this episode wouldn't have been very enjoyable at all to me.
-
I enjoyed it, though I'm not planing on paying for it. I wait for it to end up on youtube.
I won't say that I'll be watching it weekly (truth is I don't even for one piece. I just play catch up every few months.) but I try for now since it the first anime I really waited for.
Things I noticed.
Bora's magic rings were a nice touch. Makes more sense with the selling being outlawed and lucy understanding what they were.
The fountain mirajane created in the pinups was missing. Made it seem a bit less magical.
Doorbell was cute. I give it a bit more time before I decide whether I love it or hate.
And as I said before I think the magic seals were a nice touch.
