Comes with a couple of Holograph cards, aint got around to watching the special features yet tho.
Also it's a helluva lot thinner than part 1 and part 2 boxes

again, how much you selling part 1 for?
Oh sorry. I need to PM you. Probably be about £10 including the shipping?
Picked up some nifty Who items recently. Got the entire Target (new series) for a fiver. 11 Doctor CB collection. Gotta love me some Lego. Also picked up the Series 6 CD. Can't remember anything myself of the music this series but I'm sure it'll be great.
On blu ray? Done and done, man.
PM me and lets get it sorted!
A bit disappointed with the Series 6 CD but at least it has 1969 and Curse of the Black Spot. Wanted the country-esque guitar version of Amy's Theme from The Girl Who Waited. I swear it's not on the 5 CD.
My friends, after months and months of pleading, finally got me to watch Doctor Who.
I wasn't exactly feeling it at first, but about halfway through the first season I really started to like it, so I kept watching.
2 weeks later, here I am, all caught up and in love with this show.
Now, if you don't mind, I'd like to give some thoughts, and, more importantly, ask some questions.
I know that the show changed heads between 4 and 5. It was extremely evident in the cinematography and story lines that it had happened, so I knew before I even looked it up.
Now, personally I loved both Eccelston and Tennant as the Doctor. And I was really sad to see Tennant go. But after his first exchange with Amy, I was sold on Smith. He has now developed into my favorite of the 3 since the show got rebooted.
However, I tend to see this strange hate of Smith by some people on the internet, and at first I was confused to as why. Then I started reading more and more, and I learned it had to do with the new show runner Moffat.
Now, apparently a lot of people think his writing is overly complicated and that he pulls a lot of Deus ex Machinas out of his ass. Which I really have to disagree with. There's nothing complicated about his story, and he hasn't used as DeM yet.
Those same people then turn around and praise RTD's writing, despite the ending to series 3 being one of the biggest DeMs that I have ever seen.
Maybe it's because I watched the show continuously without long breaks between the seasons, but I don't understand this argument. I enjoy all of the series. However, I do enjoy 5 and 6 more because I love the cinematography, and I personally prefer overarching story narratives, like the one Moffat started technically in season 4 with Silence in the Library. The fact that this arc is now going to culminate in series 7, which will undoubtedly end with the "falle of the 11th" and the answer to "Doctor Who" has me extremely excited.
I can understand the people who don't feel this way though. Those who prefer it to be more episodic with only a few things tying the series together. But I can't understand this rabid hate for either RTD or Moffat. I enjoy all 6 series, and I'm sure there are a lot of people who do, but everywhere I turn, there always seems to be an argument going on.
Can any of you enlighten me as to why? What exactly is the problem here?
Anybody want to share their favorite moment from the christmas special? Mine is.
"Because every time you see them happy you remember how sad they are going to be. And it breaks your heart. Because what's the point in being happy now if they're going to be sad later. The answer is, of course, because they are going to be sad later."
Love that scene, almost tear up everytime. Smith is the perfect doctor. I also love his "I know" directly following the above scene, when he reveals the christmas tree to the kids. He acts the shit out of those two words, loads of facial movement. Decent christmas special. Not as good as last years. But watching Matt is always a pleasure.

Not so much here, we loved it.
Reasons that season 6/Moffat always seems to cause arguments:
They weren't paying full attention and think certain aspects came from nowhere and missed the sly buildup
They had their own ideas about what season 6 would be and would end up being, built that up in their heads and then got disappointed when exactly that didnt happen. People know how crazy smart Moffat is but they end up expecting a twist or something crazy out of everything he does rather than sitting back and enjoying the stories. Same shit just happened with Sherlock.
People hate change, not realizing exactly how many drastic changes in cast, crew, script and tone the show has had in the past.
A lot of people don't really get on with River Song. Personally, I love her. She's the exact kind of character that Doctor Who needs. The idea of a companion out of order with the Doctor isn't a new thing but it's done so well and fits with the current style of Who. Moar, I say.
People think they know a lot more about Doctor Who than they really do
They simply just don't like Moffat's style of writing or direction in the show - and that's totally fine.
Many people have varying reasons for disliking RTD. Most will just say Love and Monsters, possibly the worst episode produced in 50 years of Doctor Who. Heres one of my reasons.
I have great respect for Russel T. Davies. Christ, he regenerated Doctor Who in the first place. He really knows his stuff. He REALLY knows his Who history. In many ways he's a genius but in others, he's most definitely lacking. Personally, I'm not sad to see the back of him and I think they had the best possible man in the seat to take his place and take the franchise to new heights. After reading RTD's book you can start to see where he falls short by pretty much him telling the reader himself.
The man is incredibly clever and a brilliant character writer but he doesn't work so well with time constraints and ends up rushing certain details or the plot in general. For example, Voyage of the Damned, which I think is the all time worst Christmas special and probably the second worst episode since the show came back is an utter fucking shambles and to be honest with everything in place, it really shouldn't have been. The setting is different and works quite well (despite being a rip off of ideas from The Robots of Death and Omega), all the characters are really well written and you can tell he came up with interesting and varying backstories for even the most minor of characters but when the crisis occurs and characters start to die a huge fuss is made, by the writer, by the Doctor, by the supporting cast, by the music - a huge fuss is made… but we've only known these characters for 10 minutes and in that time that he's spent making such interesting characters with interesting backstories, he forgot to tell us why we should care about them. It tells us we should care because everyone else does but he doesn't tell us why andit just comes off as flat and melodramatic. It happens in so many of his stories, particularly ones that supposedly have such high impact like The Waters of Mars or The Fires of Pompeii. Funnily enough, that's exactly what he gets right in Planet of the Dead (or perhaps, more likely that was Gareth Roberts). Comparing it to River Songs death in the Library two parter, you can see a lot more emotion built up over time with a lot more of a decent payoff.
Anybody want to share their favorite moment from the christmas special?
The Androzani call backs. Other than that, the ending credits. I didn't hate the Christmas special - I just didn't particularly like anything about it. Far far far too much reliance on plot convenience and going against it's own rules but I can see why the decisions were made. It was what it needed to be.
@Nex:
However, I tend to see this strange hate of Smith by some people on the internet, and at first I was confused to as why. Then I started reading more and more, and I learned it had to do with the new show runner Moffat.
That is largely new fans who REALLY loved Tennant and don't really grasp that he was "Doctor number 10" and that the show ALWAYS changes tone and direction every few years. Good thing we had Eccleston for a year first or it would have been REALLY off the charts wankery.
Also, Moffat is a somewhat faster and smarter writer, you have to pay a little more attention on his episodes, they can't be watched quite as casually. Some folks are confused by the River Song plotline (though it seems pretty straightforward to me) or just hate the character entirely for being to smart and smarmy. (And in any other series, she'd be a mary sue, so I can understand that. In this series, she's exactly what she needs to be to keep up with the Doctor, who outdoes her by several degeees)
Personally, I love it, under Moffatt's run, the show is exactly what I always wanted it to be, its amazing. Smith hasn't quite made his way to my favorite doctor yet, but by the end of next season he just might.
New series wise he's my fave. Not quite Tom Baker, Pertwee or Troughton yet tho.
Gotta admit. I watched the specials again.
Rather enjoyed Waters Of Mars again. Dunno why I hated it the first time around. Planet of the Dead was decent too. Not OMG amazing but it does make me wanna see more of Malcolm. Hell. More UNIT in general is much needed.
End of Time 1 and 2: Great to see Wilf again. Aside from that it's pretty dire. The Master just seems to be a long running joke which is probably the biggest crime. Aside from that there's more of it based on 10's whining that he's gonna die. Just seems to shoved down our throat (especially considering that in series 6 the Doctor doesn't whine half as much.)
For me personally, I like Moffat's storytelling a lot more than RTD's.
When I got into the series, I started with the very first Doctor. I bought the DVDs and then it got to a point where I needed to break from spending, so I skipped to the modern series since I could stream it free via Amazon Prime.
Anyways, jumping from the old and into the new, I found the first series of modern who to be over-dramatic. Heck, I almost dropped it, but I had friends telling me to go on. When I got to The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances, hope arise (didn't know at the time who wrote it even). Aside from a handful of episodes, I found seasons one and two to be complete junk. The main problem was that there was way too much romantic garbage that didn't feel natural. It was just there to add romance. So yea, I hated Rose a lot. Going on to season 3, I thought Martha was great. It made the episodes that weren't all that great a lot more tolerable. Season 4 did have some good episodes, but the main problem I had with the RTD years is that the bad seemed to be greater than the good. Most of the episodes left something to be desired. Also the season 4.5 or whatever with all the specials was pretty horrible for the most part.
Season 5 is really where things started to change and I started to really get into the show again. It was a good transition season. You can tell the mood and storytelling was changing, but it didn't change too much. Season 6 for me was just an overall fantastic season. Loved it.
In short, I think the answer is that RTD's and Moffat's seasons have different tones and moods. Some don't like the darker tone and want the more lighter/goofier stuff back. I think there is a nice mix in 5 and 6. For me, as long as it is good writing, I am sold. RTD's just felt like there was something missing and I think it did get too silly at times to the point where it effected the storytelling.
Part of the reason I'm not so fond of RTD's era is because of his take on the Doctor and the romance with Rose. Rose, to me, came across as a fan fiction character, rather than a true Doctor Who companion.
A friend of mine who prefers RTD era stuff told me that part of Doctor Who is the cheesy and campy props. and enemies, and that it's part of the show and that people should just accept it for that. I find that to be a stupid reason to be cheap with the production. I understand some of it (the new stuff) was cheap-looking because the budget wasn't anything like Season 5 & 6, but don't make lousy excuses for it.
Plus, it's quite a killer on the willing suspension of disbelief.
Now, I loved Tennant as the Doctor and I was ready to hate on Matt Smith before I even saw his season, but Tennant's stuff hasn't withstood the test of time very well (which is kinda funny, given that time is part of the show). I saw Series 5 before I saw Series 3 & 4, and working through 3 & 4 felt like a massive chore at times.
I can't stand Tennant's fanbase that still whine about Smith and want Tennant back. What's even funnier is when they compare the two and try to say how Tennant's doctor was better than Smith's, when in fact, they're playing the same character. It's true that they're different in terms of personality and the obvious appearance, but the Doctor's core values and beliefs are still the same (from what I've seen, anyways).
New series wise he's my fave. Not quite Tom Baker, Pertwee or Troughton yet tho.

I still say Waters of Mars is the worst of the lot. Summed up to me by the astonishingly weird way that Adelaide says "The Time Lord victorious is WRONG" as if she understands more than bugger all of what it actually means.
Man oh man though…. it's a fucking great time to be a Doctor Who fan. Been listening to the new Big Finish Lost Stories boxset for the Fourth Doctor. Tom Baker's first (finally) outing to audio and it's good. Like, it's really, really, REALLY good.
If anyones at all interested in listening then go to http://dwm.bigfinish.com/ and type in 1005 as the code and you'll get episode one of The Foe From The Future for free. I've just finished listening to the whole story and it was a damn, damn good one. Doctor Who might not be back on TV til around September but that doesn't mean nothings on. There's a great load of stuff coming over the next three months alone
This might just be the greatest thing ever.
^^ that was four minutes of chills, thanks. Easily the best Doctor Who tribute I've ever seen. It was more or less the equivalent to "One Piece in six minutes" for DW. Brilliant.
^Well, that was just goddamned awesome. Makes me wanna continue catching up with Classic Who even more.
Speaking of which, making my way through Inferno now (the Third Doctor).
I was initially going to settle for just 9th and up, but now I want to watch all of them. The problem for me is that I have a bit of a hard time finding time to watch all these episodes, and a convenient way to do so. I'm starting at the very beginning of the 2005 series and I'm just a few episodes in because we only watch sporadically at my friend's place once a week. A fairly long time ago I remember watching Doctor Who at a friend's house at least up until the introduction of Tennant.
That was awesome. Thanks for that.
I am currently in the middle of the 4th Doctor in my watch through everything, including the reconstructions for the episodes that were lost for the 1st and 2nd Doctor.
I like most of the classics I've watched so far. The Caves of Androzani didn't impress me the first time, but after some serious thought, it's actually quite good. I need to rewatch it sometime.
Although something about the classics is that the pacing can be terrible, especially compared to new Who. I also want to watch all the classics, but I feel that some of the lesser-received stories will be a chore to go through.
@Mr.:

Side effect of them being half hour serials, largely. Granted, theres a ton of stories that don't have that problem and are well paced throughout… but theres a lot of stories that suffer from needing to have a action scene and a cliffhanger every episode and plot recap. Also, pacing in all media has sped up over the decades.
This might just be the greatest thing ever.
I dont know about the greatest thing ever but it wasn't the worst. A bit too much new Who for my liking.
…and then they ruin the entire video with that horrific surfboard logo at the end.

Clearly you haven't seen anything by Babelcolour.
I'm surprised that there's been absolutely no one downloading that episode of The Foe From The Future though. It's one of the best Tom Baker stories I've heard! Damn good!
On to the Lost Stories now on Sylvester McCoy's lost series. Just finished Thin Ice and am one episode into Crime of the Century. Loving a lot of the characters.
Clearly you haven't seen anything by Babelcolour.
Post his best work. I've looked on youtube for DW tributes and have mostly come up short. I just went to Babelcolour's chanel but there are quite a few to choose from.
Just wondering, at the end of the last season did the Doctor transform again?
^^ no.
…...........

Yes.
He also made sure to roll out.

:pouty: Okay….... Best trailer. I think that if I wanted to convince someone to watch Doctor Who, that is what I'd show them. And I imagine it's harder to find clips to use from the older series, as the creator stated.

Yeah I suppose, I mean theres only 6 or 700 episodes to choose from.
If I was going to convince someone to watch Doctor Who, the BBC trailers are usually pretty damn YES YES YES worthy.

Even past that, I'd suggest watching something like Blink, The Eleventh Hour or The Impossible Astronaut
shrug If you say so. I don't have the foggiest clue how people make amvs and such or where they find this stuff. btw, might want to spoiler tag those trailers.

Why? The aired 7 years to about 6 months ago. It's old news.
No, I mean because too many videos causes lag for other people.
Yeah…. Here's Murray Gold playing I Am The Doctor for everyone on Youtube. So great
Yeah, that theme is just amazing. All the variations of it… it could very easily become as much a Who staple as the opening title. It does not get old and it screams "awesomeness is happening". It alone was worth purchasing the season 5 soundtrack for.
Madman with a box is great too, but I think that's tied pretty heavily to Amy's theme.
Eleventh Hour is always a great start to get into the series. I got most of my friends into Doctor Who with that ep., and I still get goosebumps to this day about that Atraxi scene.
Even past that, I'd suggest watching something like Blink, The Eleventh Hour or The Impossible Astronaut
The books will soon be edited in France, and to promote this, 2 Doctor who episodes were shown at a cinema. And the eps they've chosen to diffuse for the ones who discovered the serie for the first time were precisely Blink and The Eleventh Hour.

Man oh man do I love I Am The Doctor. Love the cheeky flute motif. Mad Man With a Box usually is tied to Amy or the TARDIS, the Doctor usually gets Sad Man With a Box.
For me though, nothing beats I Remember You for pure awesomeness. Love the dark melody and the perfect connection into River's theme.
From the new OST 1969 and The Curse of the Black Spot particularly stand out.

The Eleventh Hour in the cinema. Dear god that sounds awesome. Really really awesome. Did they scream the 3D season 5 trailer as well by any chance? We got that one over here tied with certain 3D movies.

Well sadly I wasn't able to see it (and you can be sure I regret it), so I can't tell for sure…But I don't think there has been any trailer of the 5th season (in 3D or not).
I really need to listen to the new OST. It's been collecting dust for about a month now lol
Just found this. Hilarious.
Anyone see the trailer for the new game? Thoughts?
I think it looks like it could be good.
Hmmmm so it's a platforming game. On that aspect it could be good. Doctor Who games haven't particularly been great however (exception being those free ones.) which is kinda putting me off this one.
On the fence but it looks alright enough. Not happy with The Silence being in there though unless it includes some proper countdown-to-50 plot. River's Jill Valentine suits a bit… odd though isn't it? Whats wrong with her usual Day of the Moon/A Good Man Goes To War gear?
On a side note, listening through Serpent Crest at the moment. Damn good so far, easily better than Demon Quest was.
Continuing my watch through the series, I just got to the Sixth Doctor. I watched the first serial for him and… yea... It made me not want to continue when done. Now I know I will get through em all, but it seems like this Doctor is going to be a chore. Does it get better?

Nnnnooooot really. The series gets really violent (morseo than usual), there's massive continuity errors in attempts to bring back old fans as they attempt to connect to stories from 20 years prior. These gaffes created the infamous "Season 6B" theory. Plus there's just sloppy writing all around. Season 22 is structured similarly to New Who (45 minute episodes) so be prepared for that.
The Trial of a Time Lord shows improvement but suffers from a beyond confusing plot. The final part "The Ultimate Foe" did show Colin Baker could have been a great Doctor, but he got fired after that.
But there's a plus side, the Big Finish audio dramas have completely redeemed him.
If you dont take it serious in the slightest I found Attack of the Cybermen to be rather hilarious
I just finished the Two Doctors. It was nice to see the Second Doctor and Jamie again. I still dislike the Sixth Doctor, though his first serial was by far the worst. I also am not enjoying Peri all that much. The acting… isn't that great... though the boobs make up for it... so much fricking cleavage..
The 'Eternity Clock' sounds like it coulda been a good story for the actual series itself…...imo.

I actually love the Sixth Doctor to bits. One of my favorites by far. A lot of the shortcoming of his tenure are put down to his portrayal but if anything it's the massively cut budget and choice of writers. Definitely give more of his audios a go. Your missing out on so many great stories with him. His best stuff is with Evelyn Smythe - an old woman university history teacher. He gets a lot of development during his time with her and mellows out considerably. Theres still some great stuff with Peri too though.
It shocks me how much hate this series gets on the internet. I guess that's the result of nearly 50 years of airtime and so many variations on the show. I think people look a little too deeply into what is essentially a family show. Or I'm just the one with low standards shrugs
So filming of Season 33/Series 7 has started, the last season with Amy & Rory.
