Since I heard reading OP manga scans is illegal, I have a plan. Maybe we can still read the scanlations to see what's going on in the future arcs, but stil buy the graphic novels or SJ magazines. Would buying the graphic novels/SJ make up for reading the online scans?
Way to read scanned manga without breaking the law?

-
Has it occurred to you that people do that already?

Well… I just wanted to know if it's completely legal. If the readers think it's okay to do it, then I think so, too. :)
-
Reading scanlations will ALWAYS be illegal, remember that xD
-
im gonna restart buying the manga at the alablasta arc or little garden
-
…or you could just buy the Japanese graphic novels--that definitely nullifies it because all you're doing is getting translations for it. I was going to do that because I like actually having the manga.
-
Or we could move this to the Manga forum.
-
Kaos is right, it will always be illegal unless of course the publishers themselves give their ok for it.
-
Oh man! I hope the cops don't see this!! Or KF's subs! We could all get arrested and be put in jail!
-
As long as I get to keep my gun-dog.

I now bring you the top 3.
I'm broke.
I'm lazy.
I don't like papercuts. -
The law does not always = ethics.
Is it ethical to read scans when you are buying the manga? Yes.
Legal? Probably not. But then again, having imported DVDs is technically illegal. -

They were at my house eariler. I hid under the couch.

What… is... buying? Is it eatable?
a proud leech since '99

hmm… I buy every single issue of One Piece that comes out in Brazil. However, we're in volume 24, and I do not want to wait three or more years until I can read the current arc in portuguese. So, I download the manga and read translations, but will always be buying the manga, because I love it.
-
Most things people do these days is illegal in some shape or form. As for scanned manga, I've always felt it's like reading a magazine in a shop without buying it, they don't seem to mind with that.

For sure, I will buy the SJ and graphic novels. Like I said before, there is NO way I will break the law. Just thinking about what you said, this is a scary thought.

Yup! You have to be really careful! A guy in China Town told me that one time he sold an illegal copy of a Dragon Ball episode, but before the customer even left the store there was a SWAT team waiting to pick him. Apparently manga and anime fraud is one of the biggest supporting wings of terrorism and the US government is going all out to make sure we never read illegal manga online. I heard that even a few members of this board might be spies for the government! Oh, but don't tell anyone I told you this. It's top secret info and I could get arrested like that kid in China Town.
-
That wasn't necesary, omae. Don't pick on clueless little girl.
-

There are no government spies on this forum, now return to your hip hop records and jump rope games children..I mean..hommies
-
I am dead serious. I've seen it happen man. You don't wanna mess with the Scanlation Enforcer Wing of the Government.
In all honesty, I used to sell fansubs. One day I got a polite e-mail from FUNimation asking me to stop. I did. End of story. If it's a moral thing I totally support it. But if you don't wanna read scanlations because you think your house is gonna get raided. Please.

I intennd to buy onepiece manga and any other manag when i can
-
Well, without commenting I am pleased to see someone took my advice. I can sleep happily now ^_^

it is legal to have a copy of something you own. you have to own it first though… if you're reading a scan from the japanese shounen jump you need to own that specific japanese shounen jump. owning the japanese tanko, english jump, english graphic novels don't count.

I would rather not read One piece manga with zoro being zolo thanks, and I do alot of what is considered Illegal on my pc.
-
i bought my own manga back in indonesia everytime it was released.. but still reading the scanlation here.. coz i will not want to wait for that long… is it still breaking the law?? cuz i guess.. i have the copy of the older ones.. but not the newest ones.. lol
-
I buy the V.I.Z. version whenever a new graphic novel comes out in stores so I'm not 100% illegal, just 50%.
-
There are laws and laws. I'm quite certain that i won't start killing or raping people and the laws against people who do such stuff are logical. Still, having illegal copies of a rock group's latest multi-platinum album or a comic book is not quite in the same place. Having Bill Gates/Madonna/some big ass executive miss out on his n-th 10 mil. boat or house or plane doesn't exactly mar my concious.

Hmm, illegal stuff on the computer, I don't understand what you mean. Whistles innocently
