That was funny…first I found out about OP was the Anime Intro Archive and I loved it from the first moments of "We are!" I must have never been on Toriyama World. (and this was probably about 2000-2001 when Naruto was still just a struggling new series)

I can't see some emo wearing One Piece. Just not happening. If anything, One Piece almost bashes emos anyway.
We'd be seeing less emos if One Piece were more popular. That's just the vibe I get from the series.
And when this manga closes out, and Luffy's arm stretches back to deliver that last punch, I wanna feel the crunch of the dream coming true.

Now, I would never attempt to harm myself, but other than that most people seeing me would assume I was some sort of emo. (I just enjoy having elaborite hair) I often find myself depressed over little things but would never cross 'the' line… I've never been offended by One Piece, in fact its the franchise I am most passionate about. Notice that most of the crew's flashbacks aren't so bright and colorfull, in fact they're the oppisite. I feel that their message is something like "your life can have a really horrible momment, but you can grow out of it and become a really kick ass pirate!"

I've also noticed that they tried something like this in Naruto…but it ended up being "did you have a really tragic childhood? ok, you can be a mediocore ninja!"
trying to reach for the topic here. did Viz Naruto get to the time skip yet? I wonder how the fan's act when they have to ration out the remaining chapters until they hit the source material. has Naruto ever gotten just 2 chapters a month since I last read SJ in like 05?

Yes, i do believe the "time skip" has occured, if it is what i think you're talking about (not a fan, so wouldn't know for sure), and no, it gets like 4 or 5 every mag

And yeah Naruto takes up most of the mag. As does Bleach. What else is new. ASJ is about as bad as CN these days when it comes to One Piece.

Naruto just finished publishing volume twenty-nine in the magizine and Bleach recently only got two chapters. Also, One Piece gets three to four chapters.
EDIT: Volume 17 of the Manga should be out now.

Uggh.. yesterday I got volume 19 of Hunter X Hunter…
Overall, the translation of the Chimera Ant arc I feel is pretty good, the names are a bit off (Morau = Morel, Zitoh = CHEETOH (lol wut)). One thing that bugged me is when that one guy working with Pokkle and the Bee Girl got decapitated, his head bounced along the ground, and it looked like someone just took a magic marker and rubbed the head, since it was too violent. Looking back at the original Japanese manga, its the same that way. I wish it wasn't like that. It looks sort of offplace and wierd.

Naruto has 12 more volumes than One Piece in the US.Feels…ironic in some sort of way.

On Friday I went to the local computer-goods shop to buy a new scanner (old one disliked Vista/64). They stock a wide-variety of things of geek interest, including a small book section. I noticed they had a few manga series (nothing I wanted, mostly Bleach and Fruits Basket strangely), but on the end-of-the-aisle, they had a display of Naruto No. 27 (the English version)– priced 23.99 per copy.
I guess the business plan is "hook 'em and run the price up!" :D

Naruto #28 it already out, 'course it's a sealed copy per the post it comes with. I like how the bindings are not black to signify the time skip.

The Barnes & Noble I work at got One Piece 17 and a shitload of Naruto 28's yesterday. The shipment of new Naruto was so huge that we actually had to add a new shelf for the manga section.
Haven't seen Shaman King 15 yet though….:happy:

Del Rey is typically the best company as far as translations are concerned, and unlike VIZ they're not so conceited as to ignore fan-feedback and have some involvement with the online community. There's a very high chance you'll be getting quality work for Fairy Tail should you choose to purchase it.

My Del Rey experience was HORRIBLE. ie. Nodame Cantabile.
Anyway, talk about One Piece from VIZ in this thread, please. You're welcome to create a thread about "official translations" from American manga publishers if you want, in Anime/Manga board. Please check if we have similar thread already or not though.

My del ray experience has been good in regards to School Rumble.
But I'd definitely like to see One Piece get a push. I'm tired of Viz's obvious bias treatment.

I should get volume 17 this weekend… So, if there are only three volumes released this year, then there should be four next year, which would take us up to Alabasta's final volume. After that, or before that of course, I hope they speed up, because Skypiea should be over in the dub by then.

Meh, I find a good amount of Viz's books to be better looking than Del Ray's stuff. Especially more recent releases.

I thumbed through it quickly but I noticed that Naruto has four (one of those being completely useless) pages of advertisements at the back peddling their spin off paraphernalia like the Naruto fanzine, the art book, the manga etcHowever just One page (in a One piece volume no less) dedicated for the OP 4kids dub DVD that Viz had discontinued.
I mean come on.
I know that Viz makes money on their published DVDs but isn’t it a lost cause now?
They should instead just advertise the first color walk.Something like
“HEY YOU READ THIS INSTEAD OF NARUTO?! THEN YOU’RE IN OUR SECONDARY TARGET MARKET! MAYBE YOU WOULD LIKE THE ARTBOOK?”

They probably won't realize it themselves since we've only had Naruto in manga form since '03. But yeah: anything that Viz themselves personally own complete rights too (Bleach, Naruto, Death Note) always gets more hoaring compared to things that they don't. (One Piece, Bo-bobo, YYH, Shaman King)…unless its a massive franchise. (DB, YGO)
And speaking of Naruto's tenth anniversary, if the series does get there and doesn't end before then, I have a personal wish that Oda create's a pic so epic for the celebration that it puts all ten years of Kishi's work with those characters to shame.

I got the volume 17 today. I noticed Viz spelled 'deux' wrong when Mr. 2 Bon Clay was speaking. It says 'duex'. I hope they fix that.
