So… the new anime is coming. On 2014. So Yeah.
-
…why did you bump this thread?
-
we have a cool thread about which sailor moons we want to bone
you could've bumped that thread that thread rules
-
^Jupiter. Hands down.

I really wanted to bump that one, but I thought AP's respectability might have gone down…if we picked the wrong Sailor....LOL
Also there are rumors that the 2014 show is being dubbed as we speak!
-
Sailor Moon is getting a new series? :O
Sailor Moon was one of my first series EVER, back before I even started school and when I just tagged along with this girl I knew. So nostalgic.
-
Do you have any reliable sources of this? Or is this just a random internet rumor w/ no real meat to it?
-
I'm bumping this thread cause it looks like the new anime will be starting soon and I didn't think this bit of news was worth a new thread.
I don't know how many of you here watched the original dub, or were fans of this but I think this is kind of cool to see.

i watched sailor moon back when i was a kid, this is surprising news for me.
nice find

I actually enjoyed the english dub when i was younger my only complaint is that there having linda ballantyne oshe voiced usagi duting the S & SuperS seasons) there instead of terri hawkes (the best english usagi voice) i hope this means we might be getting a dub for the new series info on that has been scarce so i hope it's true

Sailor Moon in July by Toei http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2014-01-09/new-sailor-moon-anime-by-toei-to-start-in-july
-
Ahhhhhhh. So long to wait!
Wait…Toei? Uh oh...
-
-
Yup. I'm not too excited :/
Best case scenario. It's amazing and brings an A game. Worst case…It makes One Piece worse cause all their A-listers are working on Sailormoon...
-
Dressrosa is doomed.
-
not a remake: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2014-01-09/new-sailor-moon-anime-producer/not-remaking-1st-anime
It's adapting the manga? THANK GOD
-
Oh nice. I never read the manga. Is it vastly different?
-

The broad strokes are the same (Main characters, villains, rough plot) but the actual telling of the story is pretty vastly different, yes.
The old anime was basically 75% filler, with only one episode in four coming from the manga. (nevermind the reused attack animations) The manga tended to go at a MUCH faster pace. (For instance, they recruited Jupiter by chapter 5, and defeat Beryl around 10.) and entire season arcs were about 10 chapters.
That said, I preferred the anime in some ways… while it got extremely repetitive, all the filler DID give time for the story to breathe and to give a lot of character bits. I imagine they'll probably go for a one chapter=one episode adaptation and go for 52 episodes. Not as bad as doing that to OP, because SM chapters were a fair bit longer... usually only 3 or 4 chapters per volume.

The first promo art has been released for the coming Sailor Moon Crystal.
!
! Nope, not this one.
! >!
! Not this one either.
! >!
! Now that's more like it. -
No, this is clearly cannon
!
See it fits her character.
-
lol, saw these. People are really having fun with that image.

Ahhhhhhh. So long to wait!
Wait…Toei? Uh oh...
It was always by them! Any title that Toei grabs the rights doesn't let go ever! Certainly Toei still have the rights for Mazinger and that was made in 1974.
Now, Toei have made good transforming girl shows, Precure, so this Sailor Moon, that seems had a lot of budget will be as great or better than Precure.
-
How funny! Just about an hour ago I realized that Sailor Moon again runs on German TV at VIVA.

The "uh-oh" was more in regards to the impact it might cause to One Piece lol.
Honestly Sailoormoon doesn't age well so I can't really see it being worse than the older series. Although how hilarious would it be to see some Tate level animation going on? Soooo much squash and stretch.

Precure franchise should be sorta indicative of how modern Toei handles magical girls. It looks something like this:
-
If the new version sucks, I'll crawl back in my nostalgia cocoon and pretend it never happened.
-
I've never had the urge to watch Precure. The animation is nice, but Sailormoon was the only one I felt like watching, but I also saw it when I was like 11. I'm not really into overly girl scentric anime because most females in anime are hugely annoying to me.
Although I did love Is this a Zombie? because the transformation was hilarious. How could I not like a pink chainsaw and cross dressing? And the power scaling based on cuteness? What's not to love? lol.
-

I am currently on my rewatch (partly due to the new series, partly due to VIVA airing 15 episodes a week in Germany atm) and wanted to say that nostalgia sure can blind you. Yes, some seasons are really good (Season 1 is easily one of the best mahou shoujo seasons around), but the old version had tons of bad filler and horrible arcs as well. For example Doom Tree arc in R…

so this just showed up on my facebook

i've never watched sailor moon but my girlfriend likes it. It seems to be worth watching but should i watch the original or just wait for this new one? This new one is supposedly more faithful to the manga right?

Tumblr's hilarious sometimes. I'll have to check it out.

The anime is completely different from the manga and greatly expends the story. They are almost two seperate entities. If you want a more condensed version you should probably go with the new series/manga, but the old one has positive aspects to it as well.
-
I'm diggin the new designs! They look a bit closer to the manga style. http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/134068-First-Look-at-the-Sailor-Moon-Crystal-Character-Designs
Ahhhh! I feel like the wait is so long! But! I've decided I want to believe they'll do the series justice! Who brings back shows to run it into the ground? It'll be ~
-
Actually, Toei is not as good as they used to be.
Btw, just reached the last season of my rewatch.
The original season and S are great, but R and SS are horrible. I hope they keep a lot of the character development support characters got in the new adaption despite not being in the manga. It was way zoo rushed there at times. -
So I read the series will come out every two weeks. Why?^^

Jap VA cast announced: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2014-04-27/kotono-mitsuishi-leads-sailor-moon-crystal-cast
They also have character designs as well.
-
Character designs are imho a mess, too CLAMP for my taste.
As for the VAs… I'd switch Ami and Minako but otherwise ok choices. I wish the old cast would've returned, though - only Usagi remains the same. -
Here's images I found on twitter that has the characters from the original 1992 anime, the manga, & the new 2014 anime to compare between them. I think the newer anime version looks closer to the manga than the old anime ones.

New designs look great. Obviously benefitting from 20 years of enhance digital animation technique so it snot really a fair comparison, but… thats how it goes.
-
I gotta say that I actually like the new designs the best, judging by the screens alone so far. Also play with the idea of watching the original series first, since when I really got hooked on anime for the first time with series like dragonball, digimon, ranma and more, the sailor moon anime wasn't airing anymore. Could have started to watch the rerun on viva here in germany, but didn't have time and now it's to far into it.
-
Besides, it seems the rerun on Viva skips some episodes for some reason.
-
Wow, was?
(in english: wtf; I want to see it all!!!)
-
Is Toei still animating this? The new Sailor Moon kinda takes after Toei's other magical girl show, precure… kinda. Just on the superficial level from what I can see of these two (sorry if they're actually really different, I haven't seen them yet). Also, spaghetti people strikes again?
! Second coming of
-
Niiiiiiiiiiice. And they brought back Kotono Mitsuishi for Usagi? I approve.
IAlso, spaghetti people strikes again?
If you read the manga you'll see that all the character designs there are very long-limbed as well. Not to mention super skinny. Oh well, can't have everything.
-
I dunno why. At fernsehserien.de it says they will not air episode 200 and I think they skipped the final episodes of the Doom Tree arc for some reason. Maybe episode 200 provides too much nudity, but Ami was quite nude in one of the SS episodes that aired these days.
