I'm sure that's entirely possible, but I don't really have any faith in Akamatsu being able to wrap anything up.
Besides, we don't know if this new serialization is the sequel he originally promised, and if's not, then obviously all that boasting about a long sequel is "LOL I CHANGED MY MIND" especially when he's saying he's gonna give up and retire if the next one doesn't hit. That's what I mean.Through out his career he keeps talking big about manga market and promises to do all sorts of things, but I've always felt before he tries to present himself as some sort of "manga activist" or somesuch, he needs to build is reputation by actually SHOWING what he can do as a manga artist.

tl;dr, Akamatsu has a really big mouth and very little to show.
Sorta like Egawa Tatsuya, but less ego (well anyone in the industry is less than that asshole) and less titles. And nowhere near as offensive. -
Every day I pray Akamatsu does the right thing and goes back to the series to give it the proper ending it deserved with all plot threads settled and all the characters given the proper amount of development (especially Ayaka and the cheerleaders).
What happened to Negi's mother? What was the hidden application of Ayaka's pactio? What is the demon world like? What is the backstory of Nagi and the Lifemaker? What happened to his revived minions, did Eva's spell kill them off (that would have been anti-climactic)? What happened to Negi's immortality? What happened on Valetnine's day. Most importantly, what happened in the final ultimate battle where the entire class of 31 students combined in an epic strategy to beat Nagi?!? FFFFFFF
Yet with this new announcment, I find my hopes dashed.

I don't want a Negima sequel unless it's a Shaman King one where he finishes the story he started. I refuse to read a new story with a brand new cast but set in the same universe without ever getting closure on the previous cast even if they're in the new series ageified and even if we get their backstories in tidbits here and there. I want the story I personally invested myself in to finish with the characters I started with to be the focus. Restarting without ever getting closure on the original story just feels like a slap to the face to me. Call me spoiled but I just wouldn't be able to stomach the thought that I was reading a new story in a world where we never got the proper resolution to the old one.

According to this it won't be. This is from last year, back when his next work was originally slated for Spring. Plus he made recent comments about the difficulty of assuring that he can make a third hit series, which really seems to further imply that this is a separate thing altogether.

So Negi-kun never did grow up and do proper pactios with any of his students, instead to face eternal childhood, etc. This ending is the worst. Negi-kun is officially no longer a harem god, but a failed harem god. And Issei's a wannabe, damnit!
Welp. That leaves Zetsubou-Sensei and Araragi-kun, I think.

Dude. Don't bump threads that have been dead for months for NO REASON. It's incredibly annoying and a pain for anyone that followed the series and keeps hoping for some sort of news.
Its why I needed to close the Berserk thread, and the HxH thread would be if not for the anime. Maybe I should close this one too.

And just three days after I close the thread, something happens that actually IS bumpworthy. Akamatasu is an ass.
The new series, UQ Holder!, debuts August 28 with a mega chapter, and its a "near future battle fantasy". (Well, at least its not starting as a harem this time.)
In the decade since the world became aware of the existence of magic, the world has undergone massive upheaval. However, a boy named Tōta lives in seclusion in a rural town far removed from these changes. His ordinary life is highlighted by his magic-using female teacher and his supportive friends. When his tranquil daily life is disrupted, he embarks on a unique adventure.
Sounds… like a follow up to Negima that may or may not overlap characters? We'll probably know if its in the same world pretty quick, just based on what the magic looks like and if theres any obvious little references.
Regardless, my interest is reeeeally minimal after Negima's ending.
Not making a new thread, just renaming the old one since I'm sure Negima's ending will be a constant weight this series has to bear. (And its even at the SAME PUBLISHER, so... WTF was with the copyright excuse?)

Uhm… yes, I think it starts as a harem manga. As usual. I'm confident that at least the 80% of the supportive friends will be girls.
Anyway, it sounds like a story in the same world as Negima and the magic-user femal teacher could even be a (secondary?) character from Negima in the best case scenario, but I'm not sure I'll be interested in it, though I'll probably take a look at the first chapters. -

No, he goes back and finishes the old series that he fucked over. I don't care how much of Negi and the class are in this one, they won't be the focus, I'm not interested in someone else's story, I want the old characters I know and love who never got the proper development and resolution to their characters that they deserved. I want Ayaka to kick ass and become Asuna's peer, I want the cheerleaders and the twins to get their pactios and become main characters like the rest of the cast, I want to see Zazie and her demon world, I want to know what happened to Negi's mother, I want to see Negi free his village from the petrification spell, I want to see Koutaro and Natsuki hook up, I want to know what happened on Valentine's day and White Day and I certainly fucking want to see the final epic battle between Negi's dad and Negi and the entire class!

It's amazing after all this time, it still makes me so angry and hurt that such a great series was so screwed like it was.

I'm not expecting it. Ken did a lot of callbacks and references to characters and stuff from Love Hina and even his other works if I'm not mistaken, but those characters never really appeared. I don't expect this to be much different, although it may go slightly further. In any case, this isn't Negi's story from the looks of it so I'll just check out the series and (hopefully) enjoy it on it's own merits.

I'm not reading this even if it lives up to Negima's quality. Even if Negi and the gang are all there and they give us all the stuff we wanted in flashbacks because they won't be the focus of the story. It'd be like if Akamatsu dropped the ball on Love Hina's ending and expected us to be sated with that epilogue arc with the girl with the iguana. Not happening.

I do think we'll find out why Asuna woke up late. Other than that…
The story takes place in the original timeline, which makes the ending for Negima even worse in my mind. If you don't like it why write it?
Eva is quite different. She feels more... maternal. And she ditched the gothic loli.
The whole immortal vs invincible discussion made me think of one person: Negi. Wish Ken would put a nail in the coffin and tell us who he married but I guess she isn't dead so... Ayaka?
Lots of swords in the color spread I wouldn't be surprised if there's an Aoyama in there. Pontail girl reminds me of Motoko; although, it's mainly the hairstyle.
Touta feels more like a traditional shounen hero than Negi ever did.
Not that there isn't any fanservice but I think there's less.

Well. Its interesting in that its very, very, very blatantly Negima: Part 2. Not even a subtle wink at the universes being connected or one character leading… it just straight up IS.
But lots of indicators we'll get that last chunk of Negima we were promised... though in a very different way than expected. Weird.
Makes me wonder waaaaaay more now how much of Negima ending when and how it did was copyright issues, Ken being tired, Ken not wanting to spend the next 6 years finishing out the classroom properly, and Ken having a crazy idea on how to present it differently. Very strange that he'd end it the way he did only to soooo directly follow it in his very next work.
As for the actual story, its a good setup, but wow, the weight of Negima's ending is going to hang on it way more heavily than I would have ever imagined.

It was explicitly said to NOT be Asuna, Nodoka, or Yue…. but it was also VERY heavily implied to be Makie. And considering she won in the fan polls consistently, despite her smaller role, that would make a lot of sense.

The movie was the original ending (not that I've seen it)… maybe this is the other.
Now that I think about it it was never explicitly stated that Negi ever solved any of his problems in the epilogue… just that he accomplished great things, which he did.

The story is basically continuation of Negima set years later with the main character, Touta, as Negi's grandson. He lives in a rural village and has amnesia after losing his parents two years prior in an accident. As an Akamatsu manga, it doesn't fail to disappoint (so far). Hopefully the series will provide a proper ending to the Negima canon after the previously rushed ending.

Well, the very opening scene shows the entire old cast, the entire story focuses on Eva, and there's a very very specific thing about Negi that makes the whole thing intriguing. "Okay, how did THAT happen?" and adds a very clear turn to the story that could NOT have been told with Negima continuing the narrative as it was. Its blatantly laying in mysteries and premises that tie very heavily into the previous series right off the bat (and maybe even that alt history branch path nonsense) and its VERY clear old business is going to come back up. The old story is not really done in any way, shape or form, it seems.
So, I'm interested in where this is going and how it'll blatantly tie together into the old one, but…
But yeah, hard to accept or forgive the Negima ending.
I'll give this a shot... but I won't be buying it anytime soon.

First chapter was predictable but fun nonetheless. I'll be looking forward to more. Let's just hope this series doesn't leave me feeling empty like Negima did.

! I'm still wondering where the story can go from here, since everyone else most likely died. The old plot points are pretty much gone, unless we get that time traveling thing from Negima. And even then, it'd be for a flashback or two. The only things I can expect are new magic users abusing their power (Detective Touta? LOL), or a little political corruption. -

I read the first chapter, but Ken didn't even tell us who Negima married. . .he could have at least done that in that scene
so yeah, I'm with the general consensus, not reading this (until it's over, then Ill marathon it…so like 5-6 years? sounds about right)
Still remembering that last arc of negima and the fact that KEN is still with the same company that made him screw the readers over with the end of Negima = not reading this.

That makes me sort of hopeful but I'm still not going to let myself get invested in this. I'll give it some time to build up a good amount of chapters and see how it addresses things and then we'll see.

Nothing to say about the story, since we don’t have a story, yet: it’s just an introduction to the main character, plus a link to the previous manga. A link stronger than expected, I have to admit, since Evangeline was part of the main cast, but still… I hope there won’t be too many retcon, Kishimoto or Kubo-style. At least, don’t retcon Negima up until chapter 336, please: the last ones can burn in hell, for what I care.
That Touta seems like a patchwork from Negima, at a first glance: Negi’s grandson, with Konoka’s last name, a sword like Setsuna (and I bet Akamatsu’s left nut that we’ll have shinmeiryu swords(wo)men, too, like in Love Hina and Negima), apparently has trouble to perform magic, like Asuna, an overall design that looks more like Koutaro than Negi... and so on. I'll wait until the story starts, before judging it. -
