That was crazy. I always remember Annihilus as the idiot who couldn't do anything without his cosmic rod. It felt really weird to read him as a cosmic-level saga antagonist.

This is kinda both a Marvel and a DC news bit, but I think it's hysterical.
So, remember how Batman v. Superman and Captain America 3 were playing Chicken as far as release dates went?
They must have gotten some of that massive waterfall of money Guardians of the Galaxy was making in their eyes.
I think you've linked to the wrong article? Unless I'm missing something, this ones "just" about Kevin Feige speculating on an Avengers/guardians crossover.
-
Whoops, fix'd. Here's the link again.
Also. Guardians related news story.
Warning: Feels alert. HEAVY Feels alert!

That's a wrap

Whoooooo!!
Now bring on the Trailer Jossy boy!

It was a clever update that avoided the "Giant guy in a goofy outfit" problem, and seemed like something that could get some mileage if it ever showed up again in some other media. (But of course the goofy icon is going to outlive it.)
I always preferred the idea that Galactus is perceived in different ways by different species, who just make him into a colossal, vaguely demonic version of themselves.
!

Some nightmare fuel material right there.

I like that interpretation. Don't recall seeing it before though. When was that?

FF #262, The Trial of Reed Richards, which is a fairly famous issue since the Shi'Ar put Richards on trial because he revived Galactus who promptly consumed the Skrull homeworld. It's a collage made of the images from a spread though so that might be why you don't recognize it.
Here's the original.

Kinda begs the question as to why humanity see him as a big giant head though
maybe because reed met him first and he has a big head, so the most terrifying thing to him would be a big giant head

Keep in mind that a lot of humanoid species perceive him along similar lines; that's probably because of the Celestials' impact on the species they experimented on.
Anyway, that's just his helmet, his head is normal sized relative to his body.

Thought I'd share this with you guys.

I dun think its been definitively proven Loki's staff is the Mind gem…..and frankly, I doubt Thanos would be handing him the mind gem like that.....but then again...it is a stone thingy...its the same colour as in the comic and it controls people's minds.....
perhaps sum1 should ask sum1 from the Marvel moveis universe like Kevin Feige...i think he was the one that said the tersseract was the space gem.... -

Yeah, I know (to be honest I think they never should have shown him without the helmet), I was just making a "reed is a douche" joke. I think 616 reed is the only non-evil reed there is, and that's only because sue reigns him in.

I thought Marvel/Whedon/Somebody confirmed that Loki's staff WASN'T an Infinity Stone.
-
Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios, was the guy who said it wasn't an Infinity Gem. It's probably drawing off the power of the Tesseract, which is why it's colored that way.

I thought as much. It didn't make much sense that Thor knew what the Tesseract was and yet Loki's staff has an infinity gem in it and he wasn't aware of it. Plus that Doc used the scepter to close the portal…..so clearly it isn't an Infinity gem, it doesn't make much sense that it was...
-
I also find it hard to believe that Thanos would give Loki an Infinity Gem too.
-
I thought the staff part was a silly stretch, but the fact that the first letter of each of the MCU gem names spells part of Thanos' name seems like more than a coincidence.
-
Rest assured that you can always change the S for "Staff" to S for "Stuff"
-
And here I figured "Tesseract" was fancy for "Cosmic Cube"
-
And here I figured "Tesseract" was fancy for "Cosmic Cube"
I think that was the original plan…..in fact, how is the Tesseract supposed to fit on the Infinity Gauntlet? Does it have a gem or something in it?
-

Holy crap! Thor: The Dark World came out this year!? Its been completely overshadowed by everything else.
-

If I understand it correctly, the Tesseract isn't the gem itself; the Tesseract is a container that allows people to extract the gem's energy without having to come into direct contact with it.

You sure?
I know that the thing shows 2014, but I can't believe it did. I have had Thor 2 on blu ray it seems for a long time now. I'm guessing it came out on Blu Ray in 2014. No way it came out in theaters this year. Pretty sure it was last year.
-
Not sure at all.
I was asking if it did because it seemed like it came out before longer than that and checking, yeah it did. It came out 2013.
-
nah they've been doing 2 movies a year so far and cap came out this year

Yeah it seems that way, you can see the blue stony thingy floating in the middle of the cube….

It also doesn't make much sense that it ISN'T an Infinity Gem either.
One big problem with the Tesseract being an Infinity Gem in the first place, and this may stem from the fact that maybe it wasn't originally supposed to be one and got reconnected into being one, is that it doesn't have a consistent ability set.
The Aether (Which we now know is the Reality Gem) is consistent. It is shown sometimes protecting itself (And its host) but it has consistent powers: It can inhabit a host without immediately killing said host, it powers the host up and can heal wounds to the host, and although his plan was Thwarted, Maliketh intended to use it during the convergence to rewrite reality across all of the 9 Realms to return the universe to Darkness.
All of these things can be said to fit in with it's designated power of Altering "Reality".
The Power Gem in GotG has the most consistent power as its only ever shown destroying things. Being the "Power" gem, if you aren't of a strong constitution it WILL destroy you just for holding it, and when you find a way to wield it like Ronan does, it just lets you obliterate anyone in your path. Its Intended purpose by the villain was to destroy an ENTIRE planet.
The Tesseract however, is stated by Kevin Feige to be the "Space" Gem, and this makes sense because its primary function appears to be to Teleport. Loki used it to Teleport to Earth in the beginning of The Avengers, at the End of that same movie he used it to open a portal in space for his army, and Thor used it to Teleport he and Loki back to Asgard at the end.
The Tesseract ALSO has the ability to destroy people and objects as seen in Captain America 1, and Loki uses his staff in much the same way. The characters constantly comment on how the Staff and the Tesseract are linked somehow ("Let's start with that stick of his. It may be magical, but it works an awful lot like a Hydra weapon.", "I don't know about that, but it is powered by the cube." "You can't protect against yourself" in relation to using the staff to shut off the cube)
So we know that the characters in the movie at least thought that Loki's Scepter was powered by the Tesseract. That means that the Tesseract now has a THIRD power. That being that we see Loki tap people on the chest with the Scepter, and they are suddenly mind controlled by him.
The explodey powers it has can be explained with it being the Space Gem pretty easily. Teleportation can be seen as destroying the matter of something (or someone) and converting it into Energy and then transporting that energy at incredible speeds from one place to another, then reconstituing that energy back into its original form. (The thing or person it started out as) We never see the cube explode someone under its own power, the only person it did anything to directly was The Red Skull and that was implied to be teleportation (What with the space portal that opened up above him) so the explosion is always done through an intermediary IE The HYDRA weapons or Loki's Scepter. It's not a stretch to say that these things are not capable of fully chanelling and using the cube's power properly, and so they basically do the first step of teleportation, the "destroy and convert" step and it never continues onto the "Send the energy elsewhere step" so the energy just disipates meaning death.
So there's that explanation. But exactly how is a Space Gem powered scepter supposed to grant Mind control powers?!
That's why people are convinced that the Scepter holds the Mind Gem, because that would be the only plausible explanation for why it has this Random power here that is never seen at any other point, and is wholly inconsistent with the stated function of the Tesseract.
One other possibility as well. We know the Scepter is just channelling the Tesseract's power when Loki uses it, we never see him actually break open the Tesseract and stick the Space Gem into the Scepter or anything like that… maybe the Scepter can channel ANY Infinity Gem if certain conditions are met. Perhaps Thanos has the Mind Gem on him and upon giving the Scepter to Loki, already had it imbued with the ability to call upon the Mind Gem's powers, and the Scepter only gained the Space Gem's powers after he teleported to Earth and was in the immediate presience of it.
I mean, it's pretty much a given that, one way or another, it's still important. Afterall, if it isn't, then why...
! Did they make sure to tell us, very clearly, that Baron Von Strucker has it in Captain America TWS?
-
so what gems do we have up to know exactly and who and where are they?
-
I watched GotG yesterday.
It was a likeable movie.
My favorite characters were Drax and Yondou.! The way they spoke, just superb haha.
Really hope Yondou has similar roles in future establishments.
That character in this film was just…so good. Badass but with heart of gold (imo).! On the other hand, I thought Ronan was a pretty boring villain, with uninteresting powers.
! Noticed some scenes from the trailer that was missing from the film.
Did I blink too long or was there no scene where Gamora was changing her clothes?
Did I miss the speech where they talked about the "fate of twelve billion people is in the hands of blah blah blah"?
Rocket saying "We're freaking guardians of the galaxy" in the prison.Oh and I
! Felt really bad for The Collector. At least he's alive lol…
-
so what gems do we have up to know exactly and who and where are they?
Putting this under spoiler tags because it basically gives away the end of each movie the Stones appear in, including GotG.
! Concretely Known:
Space Gem "Tesseract" - In Odin's Vault on Asgard.
Reality Gem "Aether" - In the Collector's Collection on Knowhere
(This is assuming the destruction of his museum didn't cause anything to happen to it)
Power Gem - In the Nova Corps' custody on Xandar
! Unaccounted for, but Hinted at:
Mind Gem - May be part of Loki's Chitauri Scepter in which case it is currently on Earth in the possession of Baron Von Strucker. Conversely, it may be in Thanos' possession and Loki's theorized use of it could have been remote. It is possible neither of these things is true, in which case nothing is known about it.
Soul Gem - In the comics, the normal keeper of the Soul Gem is Adam Warlock. Thor: The Dark World and Guardians of the Galaxy both showed Adam Warlock's cocoon in the Collector's vault, and during the after credits scene in GotG, in a very "Blink or you may have missed it" fashion, his Cocoon was open, and there appeared to be nothing in it.
! Completely Unaccounted For:
Time Gem - No known information on this stone is presently available in the MCU. -
One of the unnacounted for will most likely be pivotal in the Dr. Strange movie, I'd like if it was one of the more esoteric ones.
-
Dr. Strange's quest will be to retrieve and protect the all powerful rhythm gem.
-

I'd place my money on Time, but if not Time, then Mind.
I'm firmly in the camp that thinks the Mind Gem is at least INVOLVED In Loki's Scepter (The more I think about it, the more I like the theory that the Scepter is capable of remotely using Infinity Gem powers somehow, and Thanos has the Mind Gem, thus explaining why Loki's Scepter was able to do different things)
If this doesn't end up panning out, I'd say Mind is also on the table for Dr. Strange.
I highly believe they wouldn't have teased Adam Warlock's cocoon so much if he weren't going to show up later, and I'm positive they'll keep his relation to the Soul Gem intact, so I doubt that'd be used outside GotG2.
-
Maybe the staff is the gaunlet, or a finger of it.
-
-
That is insulting to Fozzie.

Is . . . . . is Fozzie firing a rubber chicken?

Thank god Sam the Eagle was put in the Captain America part

I picked up the Deluxe version of the Guardians of The Galaxy soundtrack. I would definitely recommend it. It comes with Awesome Mix Vol. 1 and the original score as well.

Deleted scenes from ASM 2 are out. Sony GTFO with that scene with Peter and
! his father
!
-
You know, I was in the minority that kind of liked ASM2, but good lord, they were going to include another plot point at the very end like that? Seriously, what were they thinking, including so much in one movie?
! Peter's father coming back at that time seems…very random and out of place, really. Spending more time on a grieving Peter is good, but it should've just been on that, instead of "surprise! His father's alive!" What does him being alive really bring to the table, anyway? I guess we don't know what they have/had planned with that, but I feel like it would've been better off if he was left dead in the first place. Really glad they deleted that.
Also, man I really need to find the time to see GotG soon.
-
!
Apparently the user who uploaded that video wanted those deleted scenes to GTFO as well.
