! Well dammit, George Takei would be awesome in the MCU.
! . . . unless this is a double blind and him denying it is his actual April Fools. Yeah, I know, not likely, but it would be awesome. -
Thinking about how awesome Avery Brooks or Colm Meany in the MCU would be. Damn…
-
Ughh, Dr Strange trailers are starting to show way to much stuff.. I aint watching any other.
-
which role was Takei supposed to take?
-
Dunno. It was all an April Fool's so probably they didn't even pick a role for him. Though of course this has all now sparked discussion about what Marvel character Takei would be best for.
-
This means more Wong, and that's cool with me.
-
I haven't gotten around to watching Moon Knight yet (too tired), but these are hilarious:

If anyone wants to see how ridiculous Scarlet Witch's powers are before the movie I'd suggest checking this out
Granted the comic counterparts are always much stronger than the movie version but still interesting -
In the comics Scarlett Witch is one of THE strongest characters.
No qualifiers, she's just really really powerful, capable of warping reality. There's cosmic beings above her and obviously some characters have raw physical strength she doesn't, but among humans/mutants there aren't many in her league.

Did you watch the video? it's pretty well done
I wasn't expecting the winner at all

No, I don't usually watch Death Battle because they start with a winner in mind and then hyper bias the results. They tend to be very biased for DC unless they do a total mismatch.
Rather than use the mostly commonly shown version of a character that has everyday use, they'll go with any outliers in a character's history, no matter how poorly written at the time or how much the writer at the time didn't do the math, and then run with it. Or they'll use a gag as serious data.
And that really breaks when you get characters that have been around for decades in a variety of formats, like say, Superman or Popeye. DC characters almost always win these things because they have decades of authors one upping previous authors for their most powerful moments. "Well one time it was written that Superman could fly to the sun and back multiple times in a few seconds. SO we'll use that as the base standard for his speed. And another time it was written that he could benchpress the weight of the earth, so that's the standard."
Nevermind that if those were his actual normal powers there would be zero story in the ongoing books.
-
You watch Death Battle for the summary of abilities so you can weight it for yourself then skip to the end to see who they pick.
-
The new Thor movie looks soo much fun! I think it's going to draw (eg. referencing the Thor: God of thunder, ) a lot from several comics, which is always interesting.
Plus it would be refreshing to remove him from the GOTG team which it hints at (maybe), though I'm not sure that's going to be a popular opinion for most.
! I really hope they don't skim over Gorrs history and the volume of gods that are slain.
-
I'm cackling:
Taika Waititi is fucking brilliant. Embrace the silly.
-
I noticed a scene directly from a Thor comic book I just read recently
!
-
"Not Every God has a Plan" is such a brilliant tagline
-
Marvel done good, yup.
!
-
In before complaints of “he looks like a Star Wars alien”.
-
Huh, I have no idea what the plot of that Thor movie is, or if it even has one, but it still looks fun as heck. I guess that a good trailer then!
-
They didn’t show the villain at all, I was really looking forward to that

My bet Thor goes is a self discovery adventure with Waititi until he eventually stumbles in the
! Gorr God Butcher plot.

! I don't know about the God Bomb, but he certainly has been killing gods. Probably not in the same magnitude as in the comics to not look too close like Thanos.
-
Can we also note that Natalie Portman looks pretty fly?
-
It doesnt even look like Natalie Portman to me, it looks like someone else.
-
Well whoever made the helmet did a fabulous job.

What in the Trade federation are you on about?

I just love how different it looks.
Like, this looks nothing like Doctor strange. or Spiderman no way home.
I really think Marvel is beginning to hit the right balance in making their movies more diverse.
-
Waititi made a first "psychedelic" and fun Thor movie. Even a tad interesting. It really marks a break with the first two Thor movies that didn't have any flavor in them.
Even though in the live-action "superhero" genre there are only a few Batman movies I can bare to watch (and that's mainly because he doesn't have superpowers, lol). Those Waititi films are somewhat watchable for me as adventure and comedic films. Same for the two James Gunn films. Those two have a lot in common actually.
Not gonna say I'm on the hype train at all though. I will probably just watch them on my laptop one day.
-
I know this comment is little late to the party but, did anyone else feel a little freaked out with Toby Maguire in the latest spiderman?
When I saw his face step through the portal I had a chill run down my spine. Only after digging into his past did I find out how his life has been riddled with alcohol and gambling. And it really shows.
He really looks like he needs a 'win' in life.
-
-
Nah fam .
What are you implying? That Portman does not look good? Why do you feel that way?
-
It doesnt even look like Natalie Portman to me, it looks like someone else.
She hit the gym hard for the role.
-
I'm looking forward to watching her die inside when she remembers dating Thor. Its going to be CRINGE dialled up to 11!
Her costume looks awesome too. It's very close to her suit in the comic, if not more detailed. I just wish they removed her cancer origin and threw in something tied into her possessing an infinity stone or something.
-

Where would the Infinity Stone come from, a parallel universe?
-
Didn't she got infected by the Reality Stone in The Thor movie we pretend it doesn't exist?
-
Where would the Infinity Stone come from, a parallel universe?
well she already possessed one. And I think it wouldn't be too far a stretch to leave a mark, beyond a bad rating on rotten tomatoes.
Didn't she got infected by the Reality Stone in The Thor movie we pretend it doesn't exist?
Indeed. I think we buried it along with Eternals.
On a serious note: I know cancer features with over a dozen heroes in the Marvel universe, but i think we have better options available. It also doesn't seem to be questioned in the comics so much, but nowadays we're seeing films with space and time travel. It just doesn't age well as a plot device in my opinion.
-
What are you implying? That Portman does not look good? Why do you feel that way?
I don’t like that the helmet exposes her eyes. Have no problem with Portman physically.
-

Oooh, you mean her having been possessed by the Reality Stone might have left a mark, I understood it as she somehow possesses an Infinity Stone, gotcha
-
Finally watched the first episode of Moon Knight. Definitely not your average Marvel. Started to get a teeeensy bit irritating, but thankfully they cut to it at that point.
! And I didn't know they got F. Murray Abraham to voice Khonsu. That's great.
-
I don’t like that the helmet exposes her eyes. Have no problem with Portman physically.
Yeah it looks a little cooler to block that off, but it means we can actually see her emote. If the spiderman movies taught us anything its that completely covering the actor's eyes is a bad bad move. Unless you CG the eyes in so they can make expressions or wink, like they did with Deadpool or the MCU movies, and that's a no-go here. If you can't see them emoting you lose a lot.
Daredevil gets away with it because he's supposed to be blind and it would actually be distracting in his case to see them clearly.
So either the helmet has eyehole or she takes it off constantly, which would you prefer?
-
She hit the gym hard for the role.
I meant her face, Portman has a very recognizable face, it might be that the helmet's covering way too much, but if I wasnt told thats Natalie Portman, I could never tell who was it.
-

Well that's… kind of the point of a mask, no?
I'm sure the advertising will give it away but in theory people will go into the movie having no idea who the Lady Thor actually is until she reveals it. Same way Winter Soldier worked.
-
So either the helmet has eyehole or she takes it off constantly, which would you prefer?
Considering that in the original comics the helmet was specifically designed to conceal her identity I’d take the third option and get rid of it. As they’re not retaining that aspect I presume even more so with the fact that in the MCU movies Thor went multiple movies without ever wearing his iconic helmet
. Plus unlike Spider-Man it’s far less awkward since he wears a mask that covers his entire face so you can’t see either his eyes or mouth (unless the mask is torn apart) and therefore see any sort of expression which leads to you having to focus on his body language and his speech to understand whatever emotional reaction he’d might be experiencing……which is usually either glee when snarking or sadness when someone dies. -
"Bad Bunny To Play Spider-Man Character El Muerto In Standalone Marvel Pic For Sony"
Sony scraping the bottom of the barrel so bad they're pitching characters I don't even know who they are.
Upon research, he appeared in 2 issues in 2006. No, not two storylines. 2 individual issues. He’s basically a background character.
I can understand why they think there's a market for a mexican wrestler character and a minority lead, that's certainly true. And a character being unknown to the general public isn't a dealbreaker, non comic fans didn't know the GotG before their movie hit, and characters like Indiana Jones just didn't exist before their movies period…
But come on Sony, might as well just make an original film at this point. And this makes it out before a Black Cat film?
-
One of the most annoying things about Sony's strategy is that they are basically taking away characters who would be viable villains for future Spider-Man movies in order to feature them in their own, pretty bad standalone films. I think Morbius or Kraven could have been really cool, exciting opponents for Spidey, but on the flipside, I don't really care or want to see them as the main characters of their own movies. You can't just make any character into the main star of a story. There is a reason these characters are known as villains of Spider-Man and not as leading heroes in their own right.
And regarding the Vulture
! I'm quite pissed that apparently they basically stole him from the MCU. I was looking forward to seeing more of Michael Keaton in the MCU at some point. What a complete waste!
I honestly wish they would just stop. What they are trying to do with their stupid Spider-Man universe that doesn't even feature Spider-Man and only consists of medicore to bad movies just doesn't work. After No Way Home, I was genuinely hyped for a comeback of Andrew Garfield to star as the Spider-Man of the Sony Universe, but what would even be the point when their track record is this bad?
-
But come on Sony, might as well just make an original film at this point. And this makes it out before a Black Cat film?
Some movies avoid development hell, some don’t.

Reviews for Dr strange 2 is starting to drop. This spoiler-free one from Polygon describes it as pretty much what I expected, and ultimately my worst fears. That final paragraph spoke to everything that has tired me out with the franchise, and made me give a resigned sigh.

A lot of first impressions tweets are dropping, and the general opinion is: It's an amazing horror flick all Sam Raimi-style that lets all the characters be awesome, especially Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda:
