I swear the only fight scene people remember in this arc is when Luffy choked that guy while running out of the palace, and when Nami and Jinbe ran out of the palace, in what was undoubtedly the worst writing of the arc. Otherwise? The Straw Hats haven't come close in being able to deal with the Big Mom Pirates in combat. Luffy beat up some tree homies, and he and Nami had to put forth every effort to take out one of the Sweet Commanders. Chopper and Carrot were forced to strategize to take out several weaker BM Pirates efficiently. They've had some luck on the run. Open combat? Luffy and Nami got trashed by the Enraged Army. Brook vs. Big Mom…yeah. When the Big Mom Pirates attacked as a unit during the wedding, the heroes were overwhelmed. Jinbe had a hard time dealing with mere mooks, and Katakuri cut swathes through everyone. Which eventually led to their total defeat, even with five one-man armies and a human fortress on their side. And not even the whole BM crew was there! In this chapter, Pedro and Carrot had to be pulled away from fighting because Jinbe knew it wouldn't benefit them at all. Not too great a performance - sure, getting a couple thousand more people might even the odds a bit, but you seem to be under the impression that this would push the Straw Hats over the edge because half the crew is dealing with the Big Mom Pirates fine - which they're not. Big Mom has tens of thousands of homies alone, and the Fleet wouldn't get to Whole Cake Island in the first place! She only let the Straw Hats get to Whole Cake without trouble so she could play with them in the Seducing Woods - the fleet may have pretty good numbers, but they only have 7 ships.
A lot of this is Oda just portraying the strength of the BM Pirates matter-of-factly - he didn't write this arc just to put the Straw Hats out of their element, and hammer hard to them just how powerful a Yonko is, which is essentially what he did to Luffy in Impel Down-Marineford. No, the Straw Hats have pretty much been well aware how powerful Big Mom should be since this mission was conceived, and her actions haven't been particularly surprising to them. Oda has instead taken the opportunity to tackle other themes and allow the Straw Hats to show off their chops in an arc where straight-up fighting usually hasn't been the answer. But never has he portrayed these guys as incompetent in battle (in other areas? Sure! But not this). So look past the stuff done for hype and take a good, objective look at the BM Pirates' achievements this arc.

@uniaka:
Point is doflamingo was shown as this monster that they fear and don't even dare to lift a finger with yet bm is someone they can do something about and not scared. I didn't say they defeated bm or that Brook did great with her lol where did you guys got that from. But they tried to do something about it, she at least managed to deal with bm and army for the moment twice now, unlike then when Oda limited her/them to background noise.
And she has jimbei and luffy with her( but she had only luffy with her back in the forest and still managed to take on enraged army and cracker, she wasn't send in a corner helpless like with doflamingo). Then she had sanji, Brook , chooper with her and they had to deal with less threat if we go based on hype that doflamingo was scared of yonkou kaidou.
Of course they were terrified of Doflamingo when he was coming down on them as they stood on a ship in the middle of the ocean. Let's not forget the fact that they were also pretty scared a couple chapters ago when Big Mom was bearing down on them. At least now, they have the luxury of being able to run away, and not be trapped on a boat in the middle of Fighting Fish-infested waters. Much of the Straw Hats have never been immune to fear in those situations - but when it comes to direct confrontations, ala Brook vs. Big Mom or Brook and Chopper vs. the guys on the Sunny, our protags have shown the ability to put aside their fears and work for the good of the crew, especially if their name isn't Usopp. Especially at this point of the arc, when it's do or die. There's a big difference between gaining the courage in a direct confrontation, and reacting to an enemy that's pretty much approaching like a guided missile of doom.

@Joy:
You know this is another gripe I have with this arc.There hasn't been an "OH SHIT" moment or revelation.Something that could blow up our minds and this arc is almost 50 chapters.There is the Germa clone stuff but Oda completely forgot about that.
Don't those typically come around the end of the arc?
