I'm gonna be honest, for the majority of the content I love Smash for, Sm4sh is already pretty damn near perfect…
I think my preferred way of doing things here would be for them to just port Sm4sh to Switch wholesale with all the current content on the cart including all of the platform specific stuff like Stages and modes (Smash Run especially) and I'd be happy.
Then, honestly, Instead of an all-new game, I think they should just work on massive DLC packs for the Switch version. Add 8 New characters and a handful of new stages, maybe some new modes that I can buy for like $20-$30.
But of course they're not going to do that. A New Smash game is far more hype generating and system-selling than a port, so If we get a Sm4sh port on Switch it'll be a stop-gap with no or very little new content (at most we'd get Ice Climbers and MAYBE Wolf, if anything, as far as new content goes… but I won't hold my breath for either) and then we'll get a true "Sequel" announced down the line.

@Purple:
Melee HD or riot (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻
Wombo Combo in HD.
Then we can all die happy.
The reason I'm hesitant about a new Smash is if Sakurai is in charge of it again. He doesn't really hide his distaste for the competitive scene. Sure, I think he's learned after Brawl and Sm4sh ended up better but part of me is afraid he'd might pull another stunt because of it being a new Smash game.
The scars of tripping will never go away. You have to be a sick person to create that.
-
It's not a question of Sakurai having distaste for the competitive scene, but just the whole issue where it's Nintendo. Where other companies get the notion of designing competitive games, Nintendo is too much in the realm of party-casual fun.
For all intents and purposes, Melee feels like an accident of the time, and I don't think Sakurai knows how to actually repeat that. Certain direction choices from Sm4sh like the Smash Tour icon in the main menu and alternate moves being coupled with game-breaking stat changes AND unlockable by rng are the sort of stupid design things that would never ever favor a competitive scene.
I'm half convinced that the reason Sm4sh is relatively more balanced than Brawl is Bandai Namco's assistance, and even then you have the bullshit of third party DLC characters being overpowered, probably intentionally. And that's the bit with a smash sequel… whover directs it (with advise from Sakurai) will have long and deep thinking sessions on how to best grow the franchise without making it stale. And whatever they do, I'm ready to bet it's more likely to be in the favor of party fun than in the favor of competitive players.
-
Taking into account however that they're NOT going to go the "Port the one we have an release expansions for it" route I kinda wish they would, and we are DEFINITELY getting a Sequel, here are some things I'd want to be different from a sequel to justify it being a Sequel:
1: More robust single-player. Bring back fun stuff like Break the Targets. Also, give us another Sub Space Emissary. I'm not too bothered by Sm4sh's lack of the SSE, but it was pretty fun and silly and a lot of people loved it.
2: Whatever the more robust single-player mode is, make at least most of it co-op. To me, Smash is a Multiplayer experience first, so being able to do something fun like SSE with a friend would be great.
3: Omega stages were fine I guess, but give us the option to keep stage geometry mostly intact but to turn off the hazards. Sm4sh Wii U actually had this at launch. If you picked 8-player Sm4sh it turned off the stage hazards no matter how many players you actually had… they eventually patched it out so that now it detects if you actually have more than 4 players and only disables them if you do... give us an ACTUAL option for this please. I hate how the option we DID get is basically "Final Destination with a new Paint Job"
4: Stop the stupid forced difficulty lowering please. If I pick Difficulty 9 and lose, don't automatically drop me to 8 unless I restart. I picked 9, I want to play 9. This BS makes practicing the actually hard stuff (IE: Master Fortress) A slog because ONE Slip up and BAM: gotta play through the entire thing again because the difficulty dropped. Had this problem with Kid Icarus Uprising too. Must be a Sakurai thing
5: More Alternate Costumes. Alt colors are fine, but we got some straight up alts here. Alph, Bathing Suit Samus, Original Wario, Captain Amario, Gender variant Robin, Villager, and WFT? More of that please. Like, all over the place.

The New Nintendo thread now with 20% more power
Jokes aside
I would personally like to see a fresh team do Smash (or a game of the same premise)
-
I'm very much a Smash party player. Brawl, for all of its flaws, holds a special place in my heart because of all the hilarity that came from playing it with friends.
Now that I
don't have friendsdon't have as much time to play socially anymore, I guess a Switch Smash would at least be cosmetically interesting but wouldn't make me want to get a Switch. I like Smash 4 fine, but like others here haven't played it as much because I haven't been able to do multiplayer. As for single-player options, I thought Subspace Emissary was fun but only in an OK way. Never really got much of a kick from any Smash single player mode so I've never been focused on that too much.
So if anyone makes a Smash for Switch, I just hope the character reveal trailers are as awesome as Smash 4's were.
-
I'm so down with everything Demon Rin suggested. I loved the hell out of Smash Run and would love an expanded version of it with aome added options.I kinda miss the trophy shooting minigame grom Brawl, but Sm4sh's box breaker minigame was fun too.
-
I should find what me at this time and age can find hapiness. I was happy when I played smash64 back in college with my friends. Melee, Brawl, and Sm4sh brought small dosses of that.
That magic won't revive without effort and coordination. More than keeping the online mode, or all of the added characters, or hd, what I want is a group to play with, regulary and effortlessly.
<shutting naive="" old="" man="" mode="" off="">So, what about combining the 1player mode of melee, the subspace emisary from brawl, and smash run/master fortress?
Overarching plot, happening in these mid size "floating island style" levels, themed after nintendo franchises (or concepts, like throw the retro worlds together), keeping the franchise flavor with enemies, stages and hazzards, but navigating it smash style, spicing it up with fighters and bosses of note.
Like let's say Megaman, theme the stage of either Wily's castle or what a theorical "Megaman" stage would look like, let's continue with the castle as it's easier, like there are 8 megamans, each locked to only one B move, go find them and beat them.</shutting>

The NG+ update that was supposed to be released for Xenoblade 2 today is delayed to March 2nd.
Should be upset but considering how it gives me a lot of time to do things in this game to prepare as well as play other games I've yet to get to, I'm personally fine with it.

I just think it's really lame of them to delay it like 4 hours before it was supposed to go live. I won't be playing it anyway, though. When I have a 100% save with over 200 hours I'm not about to overwrite it with NG+ dickery. Once save per profile in an RPG with NG+ in 2018.
Also Ni no Kuni 2 comes out in March so that's going to be my RPG fix.
-
But of course they're not going to do that. I hope you're right here. I'm very scared that if they do a Smash 4 port that it will be the only Smash Bros release for the Switch. This is very much why I don't want to see a port at all.
-
Create Miis for all your presidents and face them in the multi man melee mode, or whatever is called now.
-
So my brother bought a SNES mini, or whatever the official name is. It's pretty cool!
I do own about half of the games on other formats, including my mother's actual SNES, but it's still nice to have them all together, and with 2-player fun at that. We were having a fun time startingand riffingFinal Fantasy 3/6. -
-
The Switch just got a Portal game.
-
Anyone feel like we should be getting news on the next main Fire Emblem or Pokemon sometime soon?
-
If we didn't get it for the early direct, maybe the pokemon one (check for Robby's analysis on pokemon release schedules) as they don't adhere to other calendars, but there is no way that the fire emblem isn't the big gun of the year. That means E3.
-
-
With the way that the release schedule has been built ever since the release, with a big hitter each month, and with May being the last set in paper with Dark Souls, we should get the summer games around april, but after that? E3.
-
My previous post was towards Halfmetal-lich just so we can be sure.
-
Traded in a bunch of games, hyrule warriors, FEwarriors assassin creed black flag, splatoon and botw wiiu, got splatoon 2 and botw switch in return. And I failed to trade in my non Spaniard games, I thin that I can squeeze 20 or 30 EUR out of those.
-
Oooh do I smell another Splatoon 2 player to team up with later? =D
-
I should give it a try, the caveat is that I'm in Europe.
-
That doesn't matter lol. It's better than all the ridiculous matches against Japan we get here on the west coast.
-
Kirby Star Allies has a demo on the eshop and it's awesome!
I really hope the game has online co-op this time.

If it's 2018 and they still have yet to implement online multiplayer in Mario games I don't think Kirby's chances are too good.

Ironically Mario Odyssey just got a tacked-on sort-of-but-not-really online multiplayer mode like a week ago. :P

Got to lvl 4, I think that I got to lvl15 on the other one. Had fun until the salmon run tutorial made me dizzy.
-
Nice, that's some solid progress. I think to team up for league battles you have to get B- in a ranked mode, which requires being level 10. But we could already do the other modes sometime.
-
Need to get better with the joycons, but I already feel an improvement over the wii u tablet and just the stick. I shall put my contact information down there tomorrow or wensday.

Sometimes, I love being wrong.
-
30 minutes instead of the usual 45 minutes.
Just don't waste like 10 minutes talking about the new Mario Tennis.
-
Well, I'd take more of Mario Tenis to take less of Labo
The list of comming games: Keep it in mind tomorrow for something new.
-
Besides Aces i'm expecting release dates for: Yoshi, Octopath (and final name reveal), Hyrule Warriors (somehow it didnt have one upon announcement). In the maybe field there are Twewy and No More Heroes (of which we should see some gameplay now).
Weird to have still something in the pipeline for 3DS, at this point it's either Dai Gyakuten, some Atlus port or something very obscure no one asked for.
Also if this is the last presentation before E3, it should be a good time to reveal the new FE and/or AC. I would prefer if they kept Prime 4, Retro Studios new game and Team Yakuza's project (possibly F-Zero) for E3.

The 3DS has 9 lives
-
I was just thinking I was due for a dose of disappointment.
Let's place our bets for things they DON'T talk about tomorrow:
- No Metroid Prime 4 News
- No Pokemon News
- Yoshi will get a Release WINDOW but nothing else concrete
and, of course: - No Virtual Console
But also - No telling us they've officially scrapped the concept of the Virtual Console in favor of classic edition consoles and giving us 3 NES games a month with paid internet, so we can finally just move on.
In fact, predicting how it'll go:
- 15 minutes dedicated to Labo, showing they've been working on that non-stop instead of giving us things we want like the Virtual Console.
- 5 minutes talking about Mario Tennis Aces, which actually does look good, but we already know about it
- 5 Minutes really quick recapping everything else we already know is coming
- 5 Minutes of Reggie and Bill just pointing at the audience and laughing at us. Just 5 straight minutes of laughing at us for hoping for anything.
-
Holding out hope that we'll at least get a teaser trailer for one "big" game.
-
Cardboard engineers != emulator engineers.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
But I do expect A big one now.
-
Unfortunately I will likely be at work so I might not catch this one
-
What happens, happens.
FE16 trailer? -
Hopefully we see the 3DS version of Dragon Quest 11.

That's a pretty good prediction, I assume the EU one will go about the same, but with Shibata taking Reggie and Bill place.
-
I hope for Fire Emblem
I expect nothing.
-
Give me Fire Emblem or go to hell.
-
Well obviously there won't be any Pokemon news. It'll get its own reveal in a couple months. I'll just assume Gen 8 is coming in November and leave it at that.
Not sure how many Wii U games there are left to port over besides the great big obvious one (Smash). Hope we see some Bayonetta 3 and of course I'll take anything for Fire Emblem Switch, even just a title and release window.
-
Gamexplain did a video, it was like tokio mirage sesions (Persona Emblem), Xenoblade X, the not quite 3d marios, Captain Toad, the zelda ports..
-
Classic moment when it's a 30 minute direct and GameXplain does a 41 minute discussion video.
-
@S.C.:
Give me Fire Emblem or go to hell.
Preach it brother.
And I also look forward to a 3 hr video for a 30 min persentation, which will mostly involve rapid nintendo fans making shocked faces, or screaming loudly about how the company is dead.
