Funimation DVD Discussion IV (Please Check First Post for FAQ)

"Filler" sets were fairly common until the end of Season 5. S2V7 and S3V5 were the only all-filler releases, but S5V6 only had 1 relevant episode and S2V1, S4V2, and S5V2 were each half-and-half.
-
I stopped collecting Naruto Shippuden DVDs years ago because upcoming sets (in order) were going to be all filler, and I was getting tired of it.
-
Yeah, I heard that show has a 150 episode filler arc. Rough. We should count ourselves lucky despite the shit pacing.

Actually, it's 83 filler episodes in a row at end of the original Naruto anime. While the later half of Shippuden, it's basically filler arcs or adaptations of light novels in the middle of the final battle.
-
They interrupt the final battle of the entire show with filler adaptations of light novels? Wow. Why do people love that anime so much? Sounds like an even worse adaptation than OP’s anime is.
-
Because the canon chapters are adapted 6 for one episode or whatever. Meh. I never cared for the pacing.
-
Fingers crossed we get the new episodes announced this week, ready to get into whole cake island
-
I’ve been watching and rewatching the early Zou episodes. It’s great that they got the Laffite, Dragon, and Shirtu actors back. They all sound as I remember them, even though I think Lafitte was last voices over five years ago. Dragon’s VA doesn’t impress as an actor, but the gravel in his voice is kind of cool; I think this set he had the most lines of any set ever. He talks for like a solid minute straight.

Yeah, choosing to put the filler there in particular is bad but honestly NOW that it's all over and you can look up a list of what episodes are Canon and what episodes are filler, how does watching just the Canon episodes feel pacing wise when you watch them?
I'd VASTLY Prefer that over how One Piece does it.
-
If they put 80 episodes of filler in the middle of the final fight of OP, there will be riots.
-
Damn, Maron. I remember you posting back then. We’ve been here for a whiiiiile.
Ha for real man. Will never forget the feeling of reaching the end of Season 3 and not knowing what was going to happen next and all the discussion of that here. Still like to pop in here now and then to stay up to date on dub stuff of course. I know it's off-topic but congrats on the recent marriage too by the way! It's funny because I remember all the posts of your wife being mentioned as who you were showing the dub to with each release up to this point.

Thanks! Man, I remember watching Alabasta (Narrator: "Not a drop of rain has fallen…" x40) in my dorm room with her (her first time with the series, not mine) on a tiny TV around ten years ago. Whew. Now we have a house and watch Zou on a 70" TV. XD
I'm also pretty sure I remember coming here on my birthday to celebrate the season four dub announcement. hah
-
Thanks! Man, I remember watching Alabasta (Narrator: "Not a drop of rain has fallen…" x40)
"…in the desert kingdom of Alabasta, the land of oasis. Desperate for rain, and prodded by outside forces...."
I wonder if the narrator records that for every episode, or if they just replay the same recording over and over, but he gets paid each time it plays....
-
I remember "not a drop of rain has fallen" playing on repeat with the same enunciation every time, so pretty sure the copypasted?
Does anyone know how they're paid? Is it by episode or by recording time (hourly)? I'm really not sure how it works with Funimation specifically.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
No announcement today. Bummer!

this reminds me of the redubs if saint Seiya and sailor moon just reusing records for attacks and speeches.

That was annoying to me in Sailor Moon while I get why they did it. I wish they had used different takes and had the takes have more enthusiasm instead of mimicking the Japanese take. That's one thing I like about DIC's dub they went all out with attack and transformation calls
-
That's just awful. I like the redubs but that's just lazy. Also I love how much fun the old cast had saying things like MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON PRISM POOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWER!!!! The new cast is good but the Make Up part doesnt allow for much vocalization. I confirmed this when I saw Cristina Vee do the opening song and she said Moon Prism Power the old DIC way.

I been rewatching Season 11, Voyages 1 -3 for the last couple day as I wait for Collection 28 (since I'm switching from the Voyage release of the series to the Collection release). I have to say Dressrosa is a lot more easier to marathon through then watch week to week. This is going to make the running up to the Palace episodes (which is pretty much almost all of Season 11, Voyage 5, and Voyage 6 is.) a little bit better watching through.
-
Yeah. The first half of the arc was a joy to watch. It’s just that second half that’s still very grueling—even while marathoning.
-
Oh my god we’re back. SungWon Cho is Cat Viper just like I wanted. It’s old news now but I had literally nowhere else to say it.
-
Funny thing is, when the day the forum went down I got Collection 28. Here's my quick opinion about the dub of those episodes. I thought did the Sugar reaction Usopp's face scene perfectly. Also I really like Pica's voice in the dub.
-
We’re back, we’re back!
Sucks the end of Zou is taking so long! Cool that we got Oden’s voice, though! And I really continue to love Momo’s.
-
Yeah i came here to say that i am disappointed we didnt get another set of episodes in January, i am really anxious for whole cake and germa 66
-
The dub continues to be awesome. SungWon Cho is amazing as Cat Viper.
-
Just hopping in to mention that Netflix will be adding Episode of Alabasta and Episode of Chopper. Marking the first time the latter has been officially available.
https://www.netflix.com/title/80998780No word on a dub, but it's Netflix so I imagine there will be one.
-
We also seem to have one or two new ADR Directors whose names I have not seen on One Piece before.
-
Fingers crossed for an announcement tomorrow. This wait is tough.

and i hope it goes in to the Vinsmoke episodes and dont stop right before it
-
We already know what the episodes are. It stops at 782. It just makes sense.
-
Well at least have confirmation they are still recording and haven't took a break
-
Not really. That episode is still in the same season.
-
Colleen and such constantly reference recording anyways.
-
There are still official season cut offs for the dub?
-
Yeah? No offense but idk how that’s news every release is “Season X Voyage Y”
-
When FUNimation themselves were licensing One Piece to dub, there were definite cut-offs at seasons' end. With (allegedly) Toei/Japan calling upon FUNi to dub One Piece for the international market, perhaps that is no longer the case. Perhaps they will simply continue dubbing until they catch up….
-
I was t talking about rights, I was talking about how the episodes are released, which is into seasons.
-
Mannnnn. Looking like another no go this week. Rough. This one is definitely taking it’s time.
-
So is everyone expecting an Episode of Chopper dub on Tuesday? I’m calling it for nope.
-

That would be a no, both the Alabasta movie and Episode of Chopper movie have already made it to Netflix in my country and as expected, the Alabasta movie has the dub, and Episode of Chopper is sub only
-
16 chars of Weird.
-
Zephray: I do not expect Episode Of Chopper to be dubbed.
Episode of Chopper: "Is not dubbed"
Zephray: "Pikachu Face" -
I didn't because I'm pessimistic. It's weird because I thought Netflix wasn't known for putting undubbed content up.
-
Well, I do really hope that it will be dubbed into Latin American Spanish. It's our little detour until March 1 where we get more dubbed episodes.
-
I won't be surprised if Post Alabasta - Post Enies Lobby being add to Netflix in the U.S. on March 1st now.
-
Was there some kind of announcement for March 1st that i missed?
-
It seems more episodes of the Latin America and Brazil dubs are coming to Netflix on March 1st covering the Post Alabasta through Post Enies Lobby. Which is leading me to thinking Netflix might be adding those episodes on the same day in the U.S.
-
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand Episode of Chopper is not dubbed in Latin America. POOP.
