New Jojolion is out. I completely forgot that Jobin had a wife.
-
Yeah, I didn't recognize her either until she started talking about Tsurugi. Glad she's getting time in the manga though. Also glad that Yasuho showed up even if it was only a couple pages at the end. Wonder what the storyline will be for the next arc. Maybe the hospital in this chapter will be the main area for it.
-
People, don't trust your doctor unless they have at least two forms of identification on their clothing, clearly showing what profession they belong to.
-
What's wrong whit his hair?
-
This was actually a good chapter! It gave me the feeling the plot might actually be getting somewhere - the countdown will help on that -, something that Jojolion was desperately in need.
And thank god Mamezuku mentioned his impression on Jobin as soon as possible or I could see him going the F.F. route. And even though the Higashikata kids are not fully aware of what the Rokkakaka is, it's good to see the whole family getting some level of awareness regarding the situation they are in. The chapter only missed a Kaato appearance to be perfect.
-
Maybe the first card has his job and the second is his name.
-
There are three, though. Maybe he is Dr. Doctor Doctor.
-
He's gonna give you the news about a bad case of loving you.

My god part 8 of Jojo is really ugly. Yeah it's well drawn and all that but it's aesthetically so ugly… the human forms looks all weird and jagged and have none of the charm of part 7... and these rock humans... or rather the parts Araki draws in rock... good heavens they're the stuff of nightmares. And the themes are super dark and lacking in the fabulousness of previous parts... and gee the fights are goddamn horrific to look at, so much gore! Especially that fight the chapter before this, wtf, baby head explosion... not what I wanted to see.
Sorry just ranting at this point. Was a good chapter, plot wise. But yea... really can't shake off the aesthetic problems I have with Jojolion's art style :( And it's not like Araki can't draw anymore, the things he drew for the JOJO exhibition last month were glorious. It's just the manga... it feels like it lacks soul... and fabulousness... basically the cornerstones of jojo.
-
Yeah, Jojolion's art style has always been strange for me. I do think Araki isn't as good as he used to be, so maybe it isn't that he can't draw but more that working under a deadline situation he can't really do it as well as he used to. But the weirdness of the designs isn't really due to that I imagine and I guess Araki just has some vision of what he wants and is doing it like that. Your point about gore is strange though since I don't think Jojolion is any gorier than previous parts. Maybe the gore combined with the style puts you off more though.

Maybe it's just me, it is the first part I haven't binged afterall. But that said, you had the baby getting murdered last chapter, the weird ass telephone polefight that had the ugly tank-stand-guys getting straight up bloodied, that fight with the stand that used dead bodies/mind-controlling to follow people, which had loads of limbs being crushed and headless bodies iirc… idk thinking back about Jojolion very few chapters stand out as being pretty.
Standouts being the fruit parlour chapter with norisuke, the beetle fight, the flashback with kira and Josuke, the fight with Damyo had some really cool visuals, and maybe the start with yasuho learning to use her map-stand.
Everything else? So... uncanny. I guess it's still bizarre but... ugh... it feels like a different sort of bizarre where its not so much fabulous and posey, but just abstract and gross and so out there its difficult to follow.
-
Poor Tom isn't a baby. He's a full grown adult that is just really small. Earlier parts of Jojo had stuff like skin being pulled back a lot (and Araki said at one point that drawing skin peeling off was something he loved) and that one part in Stone Ocean where Jolyn rips that guard's toenail off. I've always been surprised that Jojo was able to get away with the stuff it did in Shonen Jump.
-
Araki: Oh boy maybe a cranked up to eleven the body horror in this chapter…well let's see if editor-san suggests some censoring.
Chapter in published uncensored
Araki: Well lets see if I can crank up to twelve in the next chapter.I thing this a standard procedure with him for the lest 30 years, moving out of WSJ probably only gave him more liberty into doing this.
-
WSJ didn't prevented Araki made a baby eat feces though.

Maybe I'm alone on this, but I don't feel like it's even Jojolion as a whole.
Until the Yotsuyu fight (the architect/search for his dick fight) the art felt clean and understandable. Honestly, there isn't much of difference between the art on the first Soft and Wet fight and the final stretch of th race in SBR.It was only after Jobin appearance that the art start dropping in quality. The stag beetle fight already had some barely understandable panels in terms of movement. After that he started getting a bit lazy in some of the backgrounds and since you don't have a "fixed" point in space, when the characters are drawn making some unnatural movement, it feels like they are constantly out of balance.
That's my biggest grip in JJL, I can never tell if a character is on his feet or jumping or falling or whatever else. Maybe it's just me.
Art wise, the characters are as good as they were in SBR. -
Phantom Blood had Tarkus grab two farmers, squueze them like wet rags and drink their pouring bodily fluids. And that was on Shonen Jump, with Araki being a debuting author. The series never ever did shy away from body horror since then, to various degrees according to the general tone of the part, so what the hell are you talking about with the gore stuff?
"fabolousness" being a cornerstone of JoJo's is a big stretch by the way. Poses and outfits aside, which i don't think are lacking at all in JoJolion, the only part that really emphatized on that was Vento Aureo and it's easily one of the main reasons it's my own least favourite part.
But i agree with you on the current art style as a whole, it really doesn't feel completely jojo, with everybody's body looking like it's constantly twisting and noone can find a stnding position that feels comfortable lol.
We're back to a similar point in Araki's art evolution to where he was during Stone Ocean, where the biggest concern for the reader at any point was trying to figure out what was going on in every single panel… -
Btw, does anyone know what happened to the Jojo fanforums?

Hey JoJo people! Finally got the time to binge an anime again, so I decided to tick JoJo's Bizarre Adventure from my list.
Could you give me pointers where to start? Apparently there are several versions out there, which one is worth watching?
Also, since I can not access Crunchy Role in my country, can someone provide a… useful link for me?

The David Productions anime which started with Phantom Blood (Part 1 of 8) and Battle Tendency (Part 2) in a single season before doing Parts 3 and 4 as their own separate seasons. Part 5 starts in October.
Anyone who recommends the Part 3 OVA is very wrong and the Part 1 movie never made it out of theaters because it sucked so bad.
-
the Part 3 OVAs from the 90s are fun in their own way, and artistically amazing
but they're also just, like, pieces
also they do iggy real dirtythe one from the early 00s tho is poo-poo
-
The Part 3 OVAs should only be experienced in Abridged form and in compilations of hilarious moments from the dub.
-

I do agree that the dub is in fact the best way to watch it if only for the fact that it has Charles Martinet as the Senator

As Cyan said: watch the 2012 (David Productions) series. Skip every show/movie made before the 2012 version.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JoJo%27s_Bizarre_Adventure_(2012_TV_series)
Season 1 was Parts 1 (Phantom Blood) & 2 (Battle Tendency) of the manga
Season 2 was Part 3 (Stardust Crusaders)
Season 3 was Part 4 (Diamond is Unbreakable)Season 1 is fairly different from the rest of the series and if you don't instantly like it I hope you give it time since JoJo is a wild ride once it grows on you.
-
I've seen a lot of people not like the change to stands in part 3 too. Just power through it though if you don't like it much because the end is fairly good and it gets significantly better in the following parts imo.
-
The issue is that a lot of part 3 stands are boooooooring, and knowing the better stands that come latter is actually detrimental to the enjoyment of Orangutan stand user, or "The Moon".
-
Yeah, fuck stands named after Tarot Cards and Egyptian Gods. Pop Culture Stands are the real deal.
-

Thanks all!

Mhm, good thing you said that. I started with 4 episodes of the 2012 incarnation (I think), and I was a little disappointed because I was expecting something more… unique?
It seems to develop very much into a generic vampire story, but I will give it a chance. -
It's in part 2 that people have an idea of what Araki actually meant Jojo to be.
-
The first four episodes of joey jojo even by how different part 1 is from the rest of the series isn't even representative of how Part 1 goes so I'd say keep on going with it
-
Part 3 is where Jojo really gets to what it's known for but even then it's got its stumbling blocks because it was a turning point in the series. Part 2 is really good too though.
-
also they do iggy real dirty
Did they put the boots to him:ninja:
@Cyan:

I was under the pretense Araki was the reason the movie never made it out of Japan….or to home release in Japan.

Yeah Deadly Queen and Reverb are the shit.
-
Yeah Deadly Queen and Reverb are the shit.
Nothing beats Filthy Acts at a Reasonable Price!
-
Well, aisidisi is not a stand but if he was, he won this match.
-
I still like Worse Company the most
-
Highway to Death and Pale Snake are up there
-
Flaccid Pancake.

Weirdest chapter in a while. It's kind of hard to tell how many stand abilities are used in this chapter. Uu seems to have either taken over Mitsuba's body or changed himself to look like her. Not sure if that's his stand ability or something else. Then someone's stand ability seems to be controlling metal, causing the wheelchair to be flattened and the door to the doctor's room to vibrate or move. Then those pieces of whatever they are vibrating together and attacking Yasuho. If they're metal that could also be Uu's power but Uu as Mitsuba didn't seem to know what was going on so maybe it's Jobin for some reason? Looking over the past chapters Jobin might have been the person that killed Poor Tom since he was in the orchard with Josuke and Josuke said whatever killed Poor Tom looked like it came from behind him. So this would add credibility to Jobin's power being to cause things to vibrate/rub together quickly. And those pieces attacking Yasuho looked similar to what happened to Poor Tom, though they didn't kill Yasuho.
There's an interview with Araki in a magazine that just came out too saying that we're reaching the climax in Jojolion.
-
I guess that it was the work of two enemy stands. One of them flatten things, probably by rubbing each other, and Doctor Doctor can change it's appearance with another person, in the case Mitsuba.
I do thing Poor Tom was killed by Jobin, by I don't think he would be fast enough or would risk his wife's life in the gamble against the "doctors" that came for Poor Tom. -
Well, this was a Jojo chapter. There's no discussing that.
-

I do thing Poor Tom was killed by Jobin, by I don't think he would be fast enough or would risk his wife's life in the gamble against the "doctors" that came for Poor Tom.If Jobin killed Poor Tom then that makes it even more likely that he's at the hospital because the thing with the fragments flying at Yasuho looked similar to what killed Poor Tom. If Uu killed him (maybe the object he pulled came from behind Josuke which would explain why he said that) then it's most likely only one stand, Uu's probably controls metal or something, but then you have to wonder how he became Mitsuba. Is it another stand or something with the power of the fruit? And the Mitsuba in this chapter seemed to go back and forth between being Uu and being Mitsuba which complicates things. She freaked out at the sound of the metal pieces but then was Uu again once Yasuho collapsed. This chapter kind of reminds me of the D4C chapters of SBR where multiple people saw different things happening to different characters.
Also I've seen some people point out Uu's name being similar to U2 so maybe his stand will have a U2 song/album name.
Edit: Looking back, I don't think Jobin killed Poor Tom. He got the rokakaka branch quite a while before Poor Tom died and he'd have no reason to keep following him and Josuke after that. So Uu killing Poor Tom makes more sense.
-
One of the doctors in the conspiracy may have an remote or automated stand, it's possible to use one of those to accomplish one of the mysterious feats.
Also, Jobin may be twisted but he believes he is doing what is right to protect his family. He is a family man after all, and I could see him killing Poor Tom because he put the Higashikata family in danger, specially Tsurugi.
-
that was a real wombo-combo of abilities there, hope Yasuho gets to flex a bit and rescue herself a little
I like how Josuke forgot who mitsuba was too, just like everyone reading.
-
the theory that Doctor Doctor UU is pretending to be Mitsuba makes 2 big questions:
- Where did the real Mitsuba go?
- Why does Doctor Doctor UU know Yasuho is friends with the family and all that.
as an aside, I'll be fine if Yasuho doesn't get to shine and simply needs to be saved since kicking Dolomite's ass makes up for it. I am however worried about her surviving since this JoJolion is starting to wrap up and we all know what happens to the supporting cast at the end of a JoJo story :ninja:
