Or the goddamned asshole pidgeon dragon.
Boi, you're going to be in for a treat, if a certain demonic ape makes it to the New World.

Finally "beat" the game, yaye!
Pretty much a repeat of the first time around with some new stuff to do. Because I didn't realize some of the walls were climbable until the very end (I didn't last time either…) I screwed up basically every step of the way. Only blew up one of the three crystals on his back, didn't fight the bonus monster, didn't trigger bonus traps.... but unlike how any other game would treat it where the story didn't move until you did do those things... the cinematic just kept going like I was doing all those things. Eventually just went out and fired canons at it for like 10 minutes and a giant spear and I still won.
I think it might be possible to lose if you do literally nothing, but its pretty forgiving and seems to take care of itself. (Maybe the last shot requires you've done X damage though?)
So that done, I finally jumped into the new content to see how the actual game feels. Actually being challenged by a pukei pukei thats way more agressive and does more damage, its neat.
Finally MR 11, I then went off to do the Horizon quest because that's on a limited timer before it goes away for a while....and completely got my shit kicked in by Anjanth. Just utterly destroyed. And it was then I went "Ooooh, this is probably what the gear check was SUPPOSED to feel like the first time around." Cause when I originally fought him I guess I was geared up pretty good by then so I didn't really get why people said he was a stumbling block, but this time around.... he just destroyed me, kept one shotting me, no margin for error. WHELP.
Guess its back to grinding Jagras and Pukei Pukei for a while to get new armor. Sorry Aloy costume.
I settled into using the bow mostly, and have been gearing towards that. Ways to go. I also ultimately settled on spear and shield as my secondary, but I have't practiced with it enough to be comfortable with it yet. ANd the new scarier monsters is probably not the place to practice with it right now.
Also, for the anniversary event, which happens to basically be when I started playing, they gave your sidekick partner a giant goofy cat outfit.... any story cinematic meant to be taken seriously did not have THAT costume in mind for them. I imagine its also weird if you have her dressed as Chun Li or whatever, but especially the giant cat head and pajamas is just... wow. That really breaks the moments. I'm not sure if its terrible or infinitely better as a result.
Should see the Witcher content with the Handler in palico costume.
And for what it's worth, I wouldn't even qualify Zorah as "beating" the game. It's the intermission. There's still a lot of content beyond the high-rank critters without counting post-launch critters, and there's a very definite "main" boss. You're halfway.
Congrats! The real Dark Souls begins here. [also, this is when the game gets much more rewarding and fun]

Yeah, that's the impression I got, but I got to the point where the secondary armors unlock and the hard rank quests open up, that was the main thing I cared about reaching because spending time grinding the earlier stuff… well, felt like a waste of time considering I knew it was gong to be outclassed immediately.
I've got some Pukei Pukei+ armor now and a super poisoney lance... though my understanding is poison actually kind of sucks but oh well, its a start.

The High Rank unlock is great, though it was a little overwhelming for me.
The best part, to me, is that you haven't done the three best hunts yet.
So another age of hype begins… oh wait that's only 4 months away for Console silly me.
And we'll even get more news at E3 next month, just splendid.
Shame they reused the exact same turf war for Banboros vs Beotodus as Barroth vs Jyuratodus, but at least that was one of the better turf wars before Jho.
Despite that, I really like their use of the environment in their attacks, and Narga is sure to have some pretty baller fights judging from its wrestling with Rathalos.
I love what they are doing with the trailers. Some story footage, some gameplay, showing off the new monsters, and at the very end, tease another not yet revealed monster.
In the first trailer they teased Nargacuga. In this one, boy… no one that played MH since Freedom 2 would fail to identify that loud roar. The only monster in the franchise whose roar can hurt you if you stay too close.
$40 for the expansion. I don't what I was expecting, but I guess that's not bad considering how much they're emphasizing that the update is MASSIVE. The original game + DLC will be $60. For anyone who hasn't played the game yet, that's a nice amount of bang for your buck. Plus the cover looks amazing, that I want it in some capacity.
I'm assuming any free future updates along the lines of Deviljho, Lunastra, etc will be added specifically under Iceborne and not the main game? Just to further encourage people to pick up the DLC. I imagine the vanilla game will still get the normal cycled events so it won't be thrown out of the loop entirely.
I sold MHW last month to buy Dragon Quest XI, which is excellent. If there's a good deal soon, I might get it back around summer to try and train for the new monsters, but I feel behind. I stopped playing right before Behemoth and never even tried to take it down.

It's basically going to be 2/3 of the base-game in terms of new content, so it's fair.

Yes on the event cycles, but presentation made it pretty clear AT Nerg was the last of the new base-game content.
Also, AT Nerg is great. Such an angry boy.
Yeah…AT Nerg isn't the monster to fight after you haven't played the game in months
I beat it with Clusters but my other weapons failed miserably lol. He's pretty punishing, but still fair.
They mixed in the BGM the main theme and Pride of the Nameless Hunter, and the victory bgm is a tease for Iceborne. An all around fantastic sendoff before the expansion drops.
Intense Tigrex vs. Odogaron action.
Grammeowscular Chef confirmed as instructor to Meowscular Chef.
Why you gotta start off in the Elder's Recess Velkhana?
Guess it's the best way for it to get some turf wars… but it feels weird given its icy disposition.
bah, got beaten to the punch.
The Legiana shown in the trailer is an extreme variant known as Shrieking Legiana. It's actually the true manifestation of this monster after it migrates to the Hoarfrost Reach.
Also, Glavenus teased at the end of the video. I fucking love that.
I just watched the trailer at my job with the sound off and it reminded me how much I hate the dang on Handler.
The new renders for Tigrex and the extreme variant of Legiana.
!
The hype is very real. I know what I'm going to be doing all of September. Just give us all the crazy monsters. Glavenus is ridiculous lol. I remember the subspecies for it had some insane gear but it was hard to farm because you had to level up the quest or something like that?
Vanilla Glavenus isn't as fast but let's see if it gets a new move or two in Iceborne.

This seemed just the anniversary artwork. But now is starting to look like some major tease for what's coming as well.
I guess we won't be getting a new "rig" or model, but all of the same.. category I guess? As in wyvern/tyrant/lizard/fishlike/elder.
Well, each elder has been unique even if they are the 4legs 2wings same model. (Or horse, turtle island or golden lizard)
I might go back to this.
@F13rC:

Guess it's the best way for it to get some turf wars… but it feels weird given its icy disposition.
And that's whatshould terrify you the most. A region with harsh climates and volcanic underground gallery, yet this fucker just coats itself with a sturdy and sharp ice armor with utmost ease. That means Velkhana harnesses complete control over the element.
There are two different skeletons for the quadruped-winged Elder Drags in this game, being the Gore skeleton (Xeno'Jiva, Nergigante, Behemoth), and the Kushala skeleton (Teostra, Lunastra, Velkhana).
Then Kirin has the Kelbi model, Zorah struts with the Lao Shan skeleton, and the mighty Jagras/Girros/Dodogama variant of the Fanged Wyverns is bestowed to Kulve Taroth.
What is interesting is that the monsters that share skeletons share similar weakness chart artwork, often with detail changes for things like Kulve Taroth's head compared to Great Jagras.
Knowing that, I wonder how the Tigrex/Nargacuga weakness charts will compare to the other Flying Wyverns…
If we get any Fanged Beasts or Neopterons, that'd be so hype (Queen Seltas for Coral Highlands?).
Always thought that the spider egg looking clusters down by Vaal Hazak's nest signify that Nerscylla or a Temnoceran relative was meant to roam the Vale, but it'd have a very different moveset unless we got a map variant or it set up web platforms itself.
@Nekketsu
That ice attack where Velkhana makes a grid of ice columns just by breathing on the ground might be a bit awkward if we're standing in the lava.
It could be like Lunastra where there are some parts of the map where she will not go even with the Challenger Mantle to bait her.
Let's talk about new Legiana. The website categoryzes it under the label "extreme variant", this to me sounds very similar to the deviants from Gen/GU. I guess in that case we can expect Odogaron, Anjanath and all the species introduced in World will also get one.
Dunno what that would mean for Diablos and Rathalos, but if they bring Bloodbath Diablos I swear I'm probably going to break my controller in two halves.
I was reading Youtube comments on the full Tigrex and Odogaron turf war, and one of them proposed an amusing scenario:
Tigrex vs Diablos, where Diablos burrows underground but gets screamed out by Tigrex's powerful roar.
Makes me wonder how many locations you can find each of these returning mons in, since we do know at least Tigrex will also pop up in the Hoarfrost Reach.
I suspect if he has a turf war with Radobaan, it'll look similar to what he'll do to Banboro.

This page describes Shrieking Legiana plainly as a variant.
Typically deviants have the token battle damage from previous fights with hunters which change a part of their appearance, on top of having heavily adjusted moves that make use of those features.
The Iceborne beta launches today for those who own a PS subscription. Have fun, guys!
I don't know you, but is difficult to contain the hype with teasers like that.
Hands down my favorite Elder Dragon design. Feast your eyes over this majestic lovecraftian sea dragon.
It feels good to be a Monster Hunter fan right now. I'm going off the grid come September 6th.
My Charge Axe is ready! Damn, can we even call this a "expansion" anymore, the sheer amount of new content is truly outstanding.
Also, that area the Zinogre is in is not the ancient forest.
Dear newcomers, lemme put it short: you are in for a REAL BAD time.
A lot of hunters really like Zinogre. I don't blame them; its design is great and the theme is amazing. However, he's a pretty easy hunt compared to the other end game monsters.
Now Rajang…that's a real monster. I can't wait to see what he's like in Iceborne. Ever since we saw Tigrex and Glavenus, my mind went to Rajang as a monster I wanted back. He has more screws loose than all of them combined lol. I wonder how many new turf wars we'll get. There's a bunch of different combinations now.
I'm very curious to see what else reintroducing the Fanged Beast skeleton entails for future title updates, since it's unlikely it'd be a one and done usage.
Hopefully it means Blangonga or Kecha Wawa returns, though outside of Rajang and Gammoth, none of the other beasts would be elder/elder-level threats and probably not great end-game content…
A few old monsters were either alluded to or outright referenced in conversations in the HQ.
One fellow fifth fleet hunter says "Shagaroo". As in, "Shagaru Magala".
The Meowscular chef mentions the Rajang in one of his personal requests, and the Admiral's hair is compared to its mane (and guess who shows up in the same trailer).
The Ace cadet makes a pun with "ass" and "Astalos".
One hunter comments on how Bazelgeuse reminds him of another invader that also flings its scales to hunt.
Any of these could either already be in the expansion, or a post launch free update.
I need Shagaru Magala armor in full HD goodness.
Played 8.5 hours once it came out, and near ready to get back into it.
Accidentally missed that you don't get to keep augments when you start upgrading past the High Rank gear, so I wasted a little time teaching Tempered Vaal Hazak the pain of Clutch Claw Lance.
Almost done with the MR2 Optional Quests, but sadly I feel like a majority of the monsters found there will have niche armor at best (lvl 4 slots and armor being their best qualities), so I only really grab an armor piece if it might be useful later.
At least you don't need as many parts as before to upgrade weapons, which helps with all the things that branch out.
Palico Snap might have events that only occur on Expeditions; in general I like the concept, just wish the Grimalkynes cycled through their different actions more often.
What's up with the Velkhana dynamic theme? It's just a camera being rotated around a still model of it? The fuck? The Nergigante one is infinitely better.
Okay, I guess I'll just start playing now. But that difference in quality is just jarring.
Rajang truly triggers major hunting PTSD.
I still haven't picked up Rise, mostly because I'm still a little burned out from World (but it looks fun!)
but uhm…
Yes Please.
Could we also get an Okami game that looks like that? I know the painted art style is iconic and timeless but something like that might actually get people to play it.
,,,
Just thought you'd want to see the video. And I'm not bumping the Okami thread so as to avoid giving false hopes again.
Oh hey look, what the movie SHOULD have been!
We have our first official WILDS trailer! It looks like it's gonna be something special.
I platinumed Rise which was a huge mistake because that took months and months and I'm never doing it again (unless they change how getting the gold crowns works) and totally burned out on it last summer-October... but this looks really cool and like it might be time to finally get a PS5. By the time its out I'll have had a long enough break I think.
And both Stories games are finally releasing to consoles, and Playstation in particular, so I might pick those up. They look neat but too much MH might be too much MH.
BABY PUKEI PUKEI!!!
