It's a ten episode miniseries created by Party Pat. It airs this fall on Cartoon Network.

That looks charming as hell. Totally unfamiliar to most of what CN is putting out right now. I should be glad its designed as a miniseries out of fear that it would really grab an audience and be canned for being too expensive and not stupid enough.

Was the short film ever released outside of the film festivals?
I've been looking for it but can't find anything. I'm guessing if there's an eventual dvd the short will be on it?

Anyways this looks and sounds spectacular.

This next one seems rather spoilery.

Very cool. I didn't realize there was a thread made for this already.

So I found out the series was on itunes and decided to watch the whole thing. There's a whimsy feeling that I haven't felt in a very long time when watching a cartoon.

There's a lot I want to say about the series, all good, but I rather have the show air, or be better available on the internet, before going into it in full detail.

That said, I think the series song says much more about the tone of the series as a whole better than I ever could. The score is very well done.

Still not convinced? The show has Christopher Lloyd in a recurring role as well as Tim Curry playing a one off character.

Damn, that was a good and quick watch. The last couple episodes really hit when you've gone through the rest. I would recommend this to anyone out there. It's like an old school fairy tale and it's incredibly charming and smart.

There's a lot I could say about the series, but it would probably come out as gurgling incoherent praise. Just watch it.

So…yeah, wow. Those last two episodes really did change the whole dynamic of the story. Gonna have to rewatch this some time.

                      Good show.

Watched the first two episodes today, and to my surprise I was actually dissapointed. There is something about the spoken lines and rythm that just don't sit well with me. But maybe its just a matter of getting used to it.
I'll watch the whole series first though before deciding on anything.

Wirt's first lines are really forced and weird. It was probably met to make the set piece a lot older. Check out Episode 4, its when the show really hits its stride. Though, if you're like me you'll kind be put off by the Potatoes and Molasses episode.

                                  Okee I finished watching it.
As said, the beginning could've been stronger, but in the end thats the only complaint I got. Wonderful little cartoon, and its been a while since I started to tear up a little.
And it was nice to recognize some of those environments. Its not every day you see a cartoon that looks like it could take place in your childhood home, is it?

Great, fantastic show. I've spent the last couple of days listening to the series' songs, reading theories and catching the references. Would like to see some more of this folk, grim side in more shows - particularly cartoons.

Anyone has any recommendation of artists that keep this style? I started with the artist that recorded "Langtree's Lament'', Janet Klein, but I want me some more!

Finally finished watching the show after watching it off and on with CU the last couple weeks.

I… still have no idea what to make of it.

The whole thing was... weird. It also probably works a little better all in one stint. And given that its only 10 short episodes, thats probably how its meant to be seen.

I just... I dunno. Music was good.

it was weird, and still not 100% sure what happened. It was nice though. loved the characters and the art style. Are we gonna have a "return to OZ" now?

I didn't learn about this until today, but apparently the pilot, Tome of the Unknown was released on the Cartoon Network website.

I'm having trouble accessing it, so I found a youtube version instead. Almost puts me in the mood to watch the whole mini series again.

Tumblr considers this, adventure time, gravity falls, and steven universe some type of holy quadfecta. I'm glad it was so short cause it was really easy to marathon. It's pretty much a musical with a song every 10 minutes, I enjoyed it though. At first Beatrice was my favorite because she was kind of an asshole but Greg is clearly the hero of the story and the most endearing. The Samwise of this quest.

I thought the story for each episode was great as well. The main characters playing straight man and right along with the silliness of their various predicaments. My favorite is either the Pumpkin one or the Large House one but they're not that high above the others. I hope CN does something else like this in the future, I feel like they wrapped this world up nicely though.

Yeah, it's interesting that with its short run, the show is considered strong enough to play with the heavy hitters. I don't know if I want more, since I think the story was really good by itself, but I wouldn't complain if we were to get more.

If anything, I really hope CN does more shows with a miniseries format in mind, because it's a style that's never been explored much in the world of western animation. I think it's something that would mesh well with the growing tendency towards and desire for serialized animated 'kids' dramas.

I like this mini-series overall. It works well as a 10 episode series. Love the music, atmosphere, the character and background design.

! The ending did leave me wondering if the Unknown was actually a real place or a figment of Wirt's imagination. I'm leaning towards it being a real place. A place between the living and the dead. Wirt and Grey were drowning. So they were kinda stuck in a limbo. I guess the Beast is trying to drag them to the afterlife.
Also, Quincy Endicott's grave can be seen in the cemetery.
After watching the ending sequence of the last episode, I rewatched the opening sequence of the first episode. A lot of things make more sense.

This mini series was great, and I really hope CN does more things like this with the same quality.
I'm also very hesitant to go along with the theory that

! they're dead, which I don't really buy. I can see why some think that, though.
That and I'm probably just getting tired of "they're dead the whole time/in a coma" theories as a whole when it comes to stories in various mediums, especially when there's really no evidence to back it up. At least there was some understandable confusion with Lost.
! But I don't think anyone really goes along with the crap theories anyways, so I'm just ranting 🙂

But anyway! How they handled the Beast was really good. A tinge of lovecraftian horror, the blink-and-you'll-miss-it reveal, his voice, etc.
And I really loved the consistent character quirks (and that's a rock fact), as well as the set-ups and pay-offs.

So last weekend I finished what's probably going to be a yearly tradition for me, rewatching the series. Still holds up. Fun mini series to get lost in for a little while.

Some news for the series since I've last posted here.

There's multiple comics that have been and are still set to be released that tell tales that occurred in between the episodes (presumably stories that were originally part of the show's 18 episode initial concept but were scrapped to tighten the series' length). There's still two more comics to come. (I've only read the first one, and admittedly I didn't like how dumb it made Wirt look, but that's a nitpick).

Apparently already sold out, but there was a limited release of the "For Sara" Cassette tape made. I wonder if the content is online somewhere?

Finally, there's the DVD release of the series itself. Tons of fun features for the DVD (all listed in the post below), and it's only about $10! It's definitely a steal given the content. Content including the pilot "Tome of the Unknown", commentary on the entire series, and a composer's cut, where they remove the dialog and sound effects, just having the music and visuals!

Some news for the series since I've last posted here.

There's multiple comics that have been and are still set to be released that tell tales that occurred in between the episodes (presumably stories that were originally part of the show's 18 episode initial concept but were scrapped to tighten the series' length). There's still two more comics to come. (I've only read the first one, and admittedly I didn't like how dumb it made Wirt look, but that's a nitpick).
                                                              http://over-the-garden-wall.wikia.com/wiki/Over_the_Garden_Wall_(comic_series)

Apparently already sold out, but there was a limited release of the "For Sara" Cassette tape made. I wonder if the content is online somewhere?

Finally, there's the DVD release of the series itself. Tons of fun features for the DVD (all listed in the post below), and it's only about $10! It's definitely a steal given the content. Content including the pilot "Tome of the Unknown", commentary on the entire series, and a composer's cut, where they remove the dialog and sound effects, just having the music and visuals!

There's a dvd release? Oh boy, it's an instabuy for me!

Wait, the shipping costs almost as much as the item itself :I Welp, maybe I'll wait for Christmas, or something. I will buy this though, that's for sure, it's one of those series that I need a physical copy of.
