I thought.. Trebol and Diamante were guarding the Smile factory?
I can't keep up with all these characters and locations anymore.

They've been in the palace since 5 or so chapters ago.
Yeah there were like full page spreads of them sitting and laughing with Doflamingo. granted 5 chapters ago was about 10 weeks ago but still.
About Robin and "her facefaults"
I can hardly say that in this chapter that face is a facefault, it looks closer to being worried. If someone told you that a carrousel of tiny beetles would slow your landing so you could land safe and then take a huge leap to the next stage (via moonwalk ) I wouldn´t be too happy myself and actually a bit concerned as my life is in danger and it truly not depends on my abilities.
What exactly Law means with "I was rased in the white city" (MangaStream), or "I grew up in a 'blank' town" (MangaPanda)? White/Blank is the town's name, or white/blank" means something like "empty"? I'm a little confused.

Maybe a city of criminals that doesn't officially exist? Kind of like the Grey Terminal.
Robin with face faults is fine and its in character to who she is now. She's changed throughout the series, become less distant and more expressive about her feelings. I don't wanna go wall of text on Robin's psyche but I feel her serious nature comes from her negative experiences and being a Strawhat is slowly destroying that emotionless wall she built up over the years.
Or, correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't all Robin's face faults in Dressrosa a reaction to the Tontatas? Maybe she only face faults in response to cute characters like them.
@Panda:
Welcome to a strange place, where a 'face fault' can completely ruin a character, and is one of the topics most worthy of discussion; where emoting, even in the slightest, is a clear indication of becoming a 'goofball' and a 'spaz'. This is a place where conversation regularly turns toward the bizarre and unexpected, and nothing is as it seems.
Yes, you are now posting in… The Twilight Zone!
Oh, I totally needed to read this.
But what is up with all the whining about this chapter?
Jinbe coverstory.
Abdullah and Jeet get some time to shine.
Luffy Elephant Gun.
Zoro enjoying himself.
Law flashback.
I personally found the whole scene with the Tontattas trying to explain to the humans that they can't fly on the bettles hilarious…
as the Tontattas jump off the cliff taking the humans with them.
[hide]And any panel with Robin is win for me [/hide]
Fuck everything
all i want to know now is what happens to the sea kitten
Seeing Bart having the time of his life with those beetles puts a smile on my face.
Has someone mention this … "maybe that is the key for smile factory?" :ninja:
Seeing Bart having the time of his life with those beetles puts a smile on my face.
He's living the fuc**** dream man, he's hilarious indeed
First read-through almost made me go full rant mode. Not because the chapter is bad. It's not. Like last week's wasn't bad. Like 750 wasn't bad. Like 749 wasn't bad.
It's just. . .all these chapters (and you might squeeze 748 in there for good measure, even if I find that chapter top 5 on this arc) feel trully stale. It's not even dragging, it's. . .stillness. A still image. A photo, not a video.
Second read-through (and MS's 10 times better scan quality) made me appreciate it more. But I still feel Oda suddenly came to a dead end while writing this arc's climax. Does he suddenly materialize all the Colosseum fighters on the 3rd level and immediately make them fight against Dofla's officers? Or does he show in panstaking detail each and every step they take? He went for the second one. . .which is weird considering how much he loves (lately) to off-panel stuff.
Weird preferences he's gotten in there. Kinda worrisome, honestly.
It was quite messy, and I felt some boredom, so I think I can see where you're coming from. It had weird pacing, and the random parachute beetles were unnecessarily expanded on. What was the point in that anyway lol.
Honestly? That was the best, most refreshing scene in a long while. It was pointless? It didn't add to the plot? Yeah. But it gave me a huge smile. It reminded me that Oda is this child-like adult that's writing for kids, and felt the need to show us how some beetles could managa to make big humans hoover, while using the roofs of the nearby buildings to jump higher and keep hoovering. That had the kind of wonder, magical fantasy-adventure feeling Oda excels at, and that I was honestly missing it.
It also had the single best visual flair in the last 4-5 chapters. It was straight out of a Miyazaki film.
i dont know why the officers overstimate theirselves so much..really Lao-G Dellinger and Gladius think they can win a fight against Chinjao and the others?they call them a bunch of nobodies.what the fuck ..
Chinjao might be stronger than regular officers, but the rest? Guys Luffy oneshoted with unnamed attacks? Even as formidable as Sai, Ideo or Blue Gilly are, guys that can take direct Jet Stamps to the chest and immediately stand up unscathed should be more than enough to take care of them.
Chinjao might either be used as the ultimate jobber for them or be left to Trébol and Diamante to show their mojo before facing their doom at Kyros and (Imma go there!) Robin's hands.
Law's character as a child seems very similar to Ace's. Angry outcast little boy that changes thanks to comradery.
Is One Piece really becoming that predictable?
Honest answer? Yes. One Piece is becoming predictable.
After 752 chapters.
It was a given that it was going to happen someday.
And I honestly prefer predictable writing but properly set-up and foreshadowed than total out of left field asspulls with no foreshadowing at all that are comic-destroying levels of awful (cof cof Evil Chakra Junkie Rabbit Moon Lady cof cof Old Man Getsuga was the evil quincy boss all along cof cof everything went as planned cof cof).
Oh, I totally needed to read this.
But what is up with all the whining about this chapter?

I totally agree that all the points you make are indeed, at least, amusing. Lost kitten points towards adventures for Jinbe, Abdullah and Jeet saving Luffy's ass was nice, the gags are decent enough and Law's flashback looks at least interesting. And, as I said, the scene with the Tontatta's air force is the most deliciously childish and imaginative thing Oda's done in quite some time.
And again I don't think you can call this a "bad chapter", cause. . .it's not bad.
It's just become too stale, the pace has become too uneven, and it seems Oda has stuck himself in these "Colosseum guys running uphill and kick the occasional mook around", while hinting at some set-up that's stil set-up. . .and seems to keep being set-up for what feels like an eternity.
Seeng Jinbe possibly going on wacky adventures and how good the Tontatta scene was, honestly, and I don't like saying this, but I kinda wish this arc could get over sooner than later and a super tornado took Luffy and co. to an unexpected destination that would feature nothing but wacky adventures and even more wacky adventures for 8-10 chapters and nothing else. Maybe we'll have a short interlude at the island of Zo (or wathever it's called) totally unconnected from the bigger picture with just that. A sense of wonder, a sense of discovery, a sense of adventure. And then let's keep this Yonkou Civil War going if that's how it's gonna be, but it's starting to feel too heavy and tethering. It's like a leash we won't be able to take out of One Piece in the next 4-5 years, and that, I feel, kinda hurts Oda's ability (and he has it in him still!) of just letting himself go in a wacky scenario that features just tons of fun.
I'd gladly settle for a Flying Fish Riders sized interlude, really. Just mindless fun, with a creative battle and some great gags and fun all around. That's it.
Shit, I ended up ranting a lot. Fuck it.
Bartolomeo will be so sad after Luffy leaves him behind… He never had so much fun as right now...
Honestly didn't care about what happened in the well until Luffy punched through the ceiling. Still, it was a convenient way to shed Ucy, Abdullah, and Jeet. So there's that going for it.
Sabo's face indicates he's having a difficult time with Fujitora, that's good. The fire taking up a chunk of the city indicates Sabo is morally grey, also good considering the kid didn't grow up with a favorable opinion of towns in the first place. The only town he ever knew was corrupt, so why should he really give a damn if he's messing up the town that's been acting as a stepping stone for war, etc, etc.
Highlights of this chapter for me are Zoro and Bartolomeo. Their faces. One of them is getting blood thirsty, and the other is having an absolute blast xD
I just wonder… what exactly will Robin and Bart do upon arriving at the 4th level with everyone else? I can't understand at this point.
I strongly suspect Cabbage will end up fighting Trebol, seeing as Cabbage was the one used to make clear how toys were made, and he was given that moment of tension with Trebol earlier.
Though, I would love to be proven wrong and see a Robin/Bart team up. Their powers would work so well in tandem, Bartolomeo shields their main bodies, while Robin wrecks people with her clones/appendages. Sure she could still take damage, but the risk for her would be so much less this way.
I try it but I'm also butthurt as Darth is about Sabo… Do I really have to wait all the chapters where some side characters are having the spotlight just to see Jinbe taking the show...
No sorry... But I still hope even if it isn't strong
If all of that were to happen after Sanji's awesome quote about "firing" back I'd…just
!
But, I'm really glad you still you have some hope. Just can't wait 'til we catch up with the Curlyhats.

Nobody has mentioned that Robin didn't need to face fault, she can use wings and just fly/glide…..she didn't even need the beetles
so why is she afraid?
No dude. Just no.
The correct thing to say is "I don't like the path Oda is taking with her".
Not "Oda needs to write the way I want him to".Because the former is just an opinion, the latter leads to "just who the fuck are you?"
The very first comment I made on this thread, which opened up this entire winded debate was "i really feel like Oda is starting to ruin Robin's character with these facefaults (although this one could hardly even be called a facefault)
and in any case, why was this worth pointing out? is this really all that different from the recent threads that pose questions like "things Oda should have done differently?" you've isolated a lone sentence "oda should exit this path as soon as possible" and suddenly given birth to ""Oda needs to write the way I want him to." I'm suggesting that Robin's recent actions are sudden and largely inconsistent with her character; if Oda doesn't want to continue mucking up Robin's character (hopefully I don't have to insert the exhaustive "in my opinion" here), he really should exit this route.
and really "who the fuck is Oda?" He's a mangaka who has written a series we all really like. Does that exempt him from any sort of criticism? Can we not suggest that he really did make a poor choice, a wrong decision? Assuming we discard the rather crude "Oda needs to write the way I want him to," an attitude which I think few people can actually claim to adhere to, I really don't see a problem with posing that Oda should assume certain levels of consistency and quality. It's a series he writes for a ton of people; we get invested in it. Sure, we could always stick to the rather bland and flaccid "I don't like this…" or "In my opinion...", but I don't see why that's necessary. Really this brand of criticism you've directed toward my post just comes off as pedantic (even moreso than my initial complaint about Robin) if anything else. The only case in which it need be exercised is one in which someone's giving some bizarre hyper-detailed monologue as if he were Oda's personal editor or something.
In any case, I don't think this Robin ordeal is worth prolonging anymore. It seems to have irritated a number of people in the thread already so I'd say everyone leave it at that. Sorry for any discomfort.
Well but I had so much hope in other Sanji cases as well… And always it was broken =(
I'm not really feeling why people are so disappointed in Sanji when he's delivered some of the funniest material post Timeskip (and I'm not referring to his bloody nose gag).
When he became best friends/temporary leader to the G5 marines? That was gold. When they tackled the giant children and you could Sanji going all "cowboy" as he brought one down with his fist in the air? That was gold. Turning into stone at the mere sight of Hancock? Gold.
Has he been trolled lately? Sure, Oda keeps deliberately finding ways to get the poor guy beat up (Nami getting hurt in his body, refusing to fight back against Violet & Co, that part was a little weird… though I guess if they truly got the jump on him while he was distracted by Violet and tied him up there wouldn't be a lot he could do. Though the whole line of women "stabbing" men out of jealousy was clearly dropped to forshadow Sanji would get screwed). But the fact that his constant romancing of women actually led to him you know... meeting a woman/saving her was a nice pay off for once. His chivalry is usually so unwanted/so unnecessary, it's nice to see a woman actually kind of like that aspect of Sanji.
2 seats left. Cabagge and Barto on their way
I'm Kid Law and this is Jackass
Lol, no wonder why Dofla is so strong, he used to be a super saiyan:blink:
I'm really liking the fact that the flashback is from Doflamingo and not just Law telling a story to Luffy.
This feels natural and Doflamingo's flashback is probably less biased than Law's.
Although I don't think Oda has ever lied with any kind of flashback.
It's different Sea Cat, same spesies but not the same Sea Cat, Sea Cat from Alabasta has earring.
Dude, the small one with jinbei is the child of the big one, you heard it here first

All of this was awesome… but doesn't change the fact that he was used twice to hype someone else or to be saved by someone else after he makes an epic entrance to save the day.
If this happens after his speech to Luffy and after all the time he is missing with the others I will be pissed. Even more if it will be done in a cover story, which I doubt, and just to give Jinbe the show.
And that is just not Sanji... We have half of the SHs missing in this big arc against the first major villian in the NW.
I had said it already in past chapters... What will happen after the defeat? Will there be a party with the royals and Co like in every arc... But with half of the SHs missing? Feels strange in my eyes... Even more if ever since the TS all SHs are on the sidelines for other characters bar Luffy... We still got to see nothing from them that much
But Oda may suprise me... But don't be mad at me, if I'm sceptical

I completely agree with you, we need some substance with some of these chapters and I would love if there was a major turn around in this arc. Something along the lines of a few of the colloseum fighters getting dropped by the 5 members and sanji's group coming in to take them on. I just have a feeling that the next arc will be bigger which is why Oda spit the crew but I am not sure. All I know is if we are going to have fights with the characters we have, we better have some amazing fights. This definitely includes Ussop and Robin, there should be no reason they get nothing while characters we just found out about this arc, get fights with Dofla's crew.
That being said, I wish the 5 members that have been beaten weren't actually down just yet (Vergo, Monet, Buffalo, Jora and Sugar). I wanted them all fleshed out more.
I have taken a stupid liking to the entirety of Dofla's crew.

Robin's facefault are very downplayed. You don't see her with disproportional features, do you? She still looks normal when compared to the others around her.
You're just exaggerating something that's not a big deal at all. It borders on nitpicking. I would say that her angry reactions at Thriller Bark and crying faces in Enies Lobby were way more ridiculous-looking than anything she has shown in this arc.
Meh chapter, but that scene with Rebecca, Bart, and Robin made me laugh.
Well but enough about Sanji and off topic.
Who do you think will turn against Luffy as well and be an enemy of the gladiators?

Yes I know. I said that it was pedantic in the very post you just quoted. Once again, I suggest everyone drop it.
I agree with kouch, on their opwn, these chapters are fine but they're starting to meld together into Coliseum guys running uphill and I'm struggling to remember anything else. The beetle flying was easily the best part. Taking these usually stoic characters, giving them goofy faces and having them do these child-like wondrous things is really refreshing and fun.
Oda needs to shake things up though and start getting into some battles because it feels like it's been non-stop setup for a while now.
Haven't read these pages to look for comments on this…
Anyone know why Jimbei/Jinbei has crying fish around him?
It seems that the battles will start right after this flashback.
It's me or Oda is loosing drawing skills? Cause some panels looked WEIRD in comparison with other chapters.
with all this freaking setup…flashback and climax better be good...like...really good.
I read in a french translation that the blank/white town (Shiroi Machi) MIGHT be a reference to "White Town Hiroshima" written by Kimura Yasuko.
Implying that Law's illness is due to radiation.
I find it pretty weird that, on the same Jump issue doffy and madara are both missing their upper halves of their body. Last time as well it was on the very same issue that both the mangakas had introduced the clone thing. Do they plan these things on purpose..:ninja:
And is doffy holding the key to the factory??
So is Jinbe going to Alabasta now? A cover story with both Jinbe and Vivi?
Otherwise, a fairly solid chapter. I've actually come to like Abdullah and Jeet despite that they are minor characters, and getting the first taste of Law's flashback was nice. Regarding Robin's face faults: I'm not all in for them yet, but then again, the gag of her being emotionless while everybody else are freaking out would also get old sooner or later, so it's probably fine with a change. Actually, I find Rebecca face-faulting weirder since she has been the serious-minded one in this arc.
So is Jinbe going to Alabasta now?
That's quite a little bit far away. Guess that little kitten basically is Zorocat!
So… luffy's attack was blocked easy by Doula's clone while jeet and Abdullah 1 shot the clone? wtf?
And why you guys call it law's flashback? looks like Doula's flashback to me.
Why discuss Robin's facefaults when you can discuss such an amazing things like Dofla's complex feelings for Law and him being jealous over Law choosing Luffy instead of him :ninja:
So how long do you think the flash backs are going to be?one chapter, 3 chapters then a break then we get ti fighting and progress?
So… luffy's attack was blocked easy by Doula's clone while jeet and Abdullah 1 shot the clone? wtf?
.
well those guys are masters sneakers just don't underestimate them
@zeff:
And is doffy holding the key to the factory??
No he was holding the key to law's handcuffs. He already destroyed the keys to the factory in previous chapter
Fuck it, I missed talking about One Piece too much…
And why you guys call it law's flashback? looks like Doula's flashback to me.
Can't it be both?
Looks like Law and Doffy both have some beef against their homes. That's an interesting parallel…
the trobol key is the one to the factory. i bet heart key is for something else. diamond for colliseum and picas for the palace???
and dd clone got one shotted by fodder like madara and bz llooollllll. both of them left behind only legs.
:) at barty yelling at the dwarves then enjoying flying.
@Light:
Fuck it, I missed talking about One Piece too much…
Nice to have both of you back! You and your awesome signature!
@Light:
Can't it be both?

Well, DoFla did say that Law reminded him of himself when he was young. And flashbacks don't always get told from just one perspective in One Piece, so I'm good with it being for both. We need to get some stuff with Law and Cora away from DoFla's view, I believe.
Doffy you are making the mistake you said you wouldn't I hope Luffy Gatling guns your feathers off
@Steel:
Doffy you are making the mistake you said you wouldn't I hope Luffy Gatling guns your feathers off
I know. It's kind of disappointing to me, 'cause he was the first villain to realize and say that they shouldn't underestimate the SH's. And what does he go and do. :L
