I still seriously doubt she could even beat half the named characters left, there's only so much you can do standing at the edge of a ring waiting for a counter throw.

The main reason people don't exactly seem to be fans of her is that she is in a gladiator tournament where people fight one another and she doesn't want to hit anybody. I will say this chapter made me like her a little bit. Even though it was pathetic for her to stand behind Barto, it was a smart and hilarious move.

Much like how kuro couldn't see who he hit Hakuba is the personification of a sleeping man... for all we know he doesnt even know who he's attacking and just doing it blindly..... after all whirlwinds just move in random directions.

Also i should point out that she was knocked down afterwards and stood up because the swipe only hit her helmet.... I even if he was conscious he may have just assumed she was Down for the count.... you didnt see him attacking other champs twice did you? why would she be special?

you know luffy being the broken main character he is, beating a her by being faster than rebecca doesnt mean that she is weak. it just means that luffy is really strong. Buggy wouldnt last for shit here. Rebecca is moving off how resolute she is. she was trained in counter fighting.

Also, both of them had most of their opponents in their rounds cleared up by someone else, so there's that.

Sabo and Vergo would be really cool match up in my opinion(yea I know some people might underestimate Vergo but he surely is in league with Sabo).

Burgess should be able to do some version of his elbow shot but probably weaker without that armor thing.

I'm somewhat surprised that Diamante's power enabled him to actually lengthen his sword. Either I misunderstood his DF or that's another of its powers.

Wrong. The reason she won was because of several set of circumstances that were specifically written to suit her only strength, the main one Cavendish's second form only having two attempts before falling asleep, which was comically absurd and obvious to apparently everyone but yourself why this was such a short attack. This entire attack was avoidable by the only aspect of skill that she has, which is extremely convenient writing. The entire tournament has been written for her to win the fruit, but apparently this point has went inside an orbital spaceship and flown far far over your head.

Is that what you believe? The entire situation is comical because he would have slayed them all had he not turned. He was have a nice little skirmish with the finalist of Group B, who would easily crush everyone in Group C. His normal form was already strong to take them out, but Oda decide his alter ego attack twice, which was enough to beat everyone but Rebecca then conveniently fall asleep. I still don't understand why he didn't wake up if he couldn't go back to his form, other the power of convenience.

You can continue living in your little bubble while in the real world, that's a pretty obvious plot armor. Anyone that isn't fangasming over her character can see this. I'm already over her win, though I think she has a legitimately good chance of getting the fruit at this point. I really think it's between Sabo and her at this point, Burgess as a distant 3rd choice.

There's still the idea that Sabo and Burgess tussle and she sneaks there to win it. A less likely chance is that Sabo wins and gives her the fruit to ensure her country go under Dragon's rule. And of course there's Luffy giving it to her after Sabo hands it to him, which would mean there's a large probability that she may become a new crewmember in that scenario.

Maybe if she wins the entire tournament, you'll come back and say it's all because of skill again.

Well, you're comparing them based only on position merits. We can't say for sure how they would fare, but if we see Diamante being anywhere close to Sabo, it might serve as an indicator for Vergo's strength.

None of those characters were boring at all.

If anything, Vivi showed more personality when she was a "Team Rocket member".

Robin as a villain was pretty damn intimidating. As a Straw Hat, she was mysterious, but also had her own quirks. Her past just added more depth to her character when it was revealed. She also has a world-changing goal.

Koala was a slave who couldn't stop smiling for fear of being killed. She's now a Revolutionary who's also fighting for a world-changing goal. She also knows a martial art that was believed to be exclusive to a particular race. And she had less screentime than Rebecca herself.

Bringing up Diamante only because he's the same rank as Vergo:

Diamante does have a quirky ability, unlike Vergo, who is a straightforward brawler. That is definitely a factor.

Devil Fruits do tend to be game changers when used well. Even though Diamante and Vergo have the same rank, Diamante still has the advantage of having a power that few people should be able to counter.

See his cape was moving around as if it was really light, when in fact it was steel. So I think the exemple of a punch coming out of the gro

It is very true that we haven't seen just how strong Burgess is, and that Sabo simply stopping one of his attacks doesn't amount to much, but it is pretty telling.

And you mustn't discount the thematic devices either. Drawing parallels between Ace and Sabo, and now between Sabo and Luffy, alone does not suffice to prove that he's vastly superior to either Burgess or Diamante (or to Vergo, for that matter), but it would never have been emphasized should it not be important. The fact that Oda himself is including small details like that in the story means something, and since Oda hasn't really been established to be an unreliable narrator in any other respect than with his character deaths, we can safely assume that Sabo was pretty much just as strong as Ace was (if not even stronger due to Dragon's direct influence) and that he is probably even stronger than Ace was right now because he's had two more years of time to train and hone his skills.

Usopp is no a hand to hand combat, he doesn't need to be a monster but he has been shown to take a lot of damage, his snipping skills are top notch which they require physical strength to shoot those bullets in the first place, my point is Usopp is a powerhouse when it comes to Snipping, so he's no weak.

Why would Smoker ignore this? He is a vice admiral seems pretty knowledgable (knew Ace and the cunning nature of Crocodile) and a friend of Aokiji. And Aokiji is supposedly working as a top officer of Blackbeard who is not only a Yonko but the hottest topic in the new world. And we saw at the war that commanders were reknowed within the top of the world.

This is the only nitpick I have considering the rest I agree with. The kings punch was blocked by Barto's barrier who intentionally protected the crowd. I'm doubting that Burgess could break through his barrier with that elbow wave attack. Maybe with a barrage of them, but not just one.

Dragon had direct contact with Sabo during the burning of the Grey Terminal with Sabo pleading him to stop the madness going on and Dragon himself being incredibly shocked and agitated to see a kid saying things like that about the kingdom. And it was by Dragon's direct orders that Sabo was fished out of the sea and treated immediately. There is no reason to assume that Dragon wouldn't have personally trained him.

All I'm saying it it's not that clear, based on what little we've seen. Some guesses can be made, yes, but there's a lot open for surprises. It's not like I didn't get what you were saying, it's that I don't agree completely.

Also, Elizabello's punch was blocked by a barrier. Couldn't reach the audience behind it. But, based on that flashback showing a fort with the hole in it, the force of their strikes is about the same. Only difference is, Elizabello needs to prepare for an hour and Burgess can shoot out his weapon at any time.

sabo with no doubt should be special in dragon's eyes but There is no reason to assume that Dragon would train any of his underlings
he should have ppl to do that "trainers" who maybe have a better training skills than dragon
it might have happened though but till it's mentioned we can't use that as an indicator of sabo's power

Why would Smoker ignore this? He is a vice admiral seems pretty knowledgable (knew Ace and the cunning nature of Crocodile) and a friend of Aokiji. And Aokiji is supposedly working as a top officer of Blackbeard who is not only a Yonko but the hottest topic in the new world. And we saw at the war that commanders were reknowed within the top of the world.

Again I assure I just want the answer and won't argue.

But there was nothing Smoker was supposed to ignore. He didn't even know what Aokiji was at the moment, which is why he asked.

As I said, it's possible the news of Aokiji being with Blackbeard isn't that widespread. I thought he was a secret associate, but the last chapter kinda made me think different. Oda often dances around with relevant information. Every hot topic has to start somewhere, right? So maybe this news has yet to reach the world. Like I said, it's possible people know Blackbeard has 10 captains, but don't know the specifics. Or maybe Aokiji is known as Blackbeard pirate under a different name. Like Sogeking and his bounty. We saw plenty of people didn't know what Fujitora looked like.

Anyway, all I'm saying is there's a decent possibility. I remember discussing with a lot of people who dismissed Sabo being alive on account of not appearing at Marineford, or ever in Ace or Luffy's life. That may be a valid argument, but only because there was crucial information missing. And here, with Aokiji, there's information missing. All we know is that he has ties with the underworld and is allied with Blackbeard. That alone makes his active duty in his crew a possibility.

Still, even if Aokiji is on that position now, I see it as him doing it for his own goals.

Also, I do admit it's not really confirmed and there are some blanks left to fill, but I'd like it if the discussion shifted from Aokiji to other possible canditates for that 10th captain.

Don't give it too much meaning, I only wrote him down because he popped into my head, since I remember some people predicting him as a new admiral a while back. I did say I was running out of ideas and when you run out of ideas, you start thinking about weird possibilities.

But yeah, if I had to pick a person least likely to follow orders in One Piece, it would be Enel.

I don't know man, that doesn't really sound right. Vergo is a New World product for sure, but it's the very top that you're comparing him to.

Oda is hyping Sabo- yes I know - but it does not mean that he is stronger than Luffy. Or that he is as strong as you picture.

Luffy during war said that he will be one day even stronger than Ace. What can be better way to show us Luffy at least becoming Aces equal as by matching or outgrowing Sabo?

Vergo lost to Law mostly because of underestimating him. Vergo was suggested as Doflamingos right hand man and person that was Jokers companion for longest, Doflamingo used word "partner" while talking to Vergo(same as Roger said to Rayleigh, kind of like it is between Zoro and Luffy). He is CQC fighter with great CoA haki and almost same weapon as Sabo.
For me Vergo being "just" Base Commander in New World sets him to be a match for some of Yonko commanders. So I would not say that one of them is bigger fish for what we have seen till now I would say that I would expect them to be around same strength and thats why I wrote about them being good match for each other.

Position merits, which is a weird term in and of itself because it only tells half of the story, do have very clear implications of a person's relative strength, though. Ace and Burgess didn't become Division Commanders just because they happened to tag along with a big fish, they both have inhuman strength to back the whole position up. They have to or otherwise stronger competitors from other crews will simply gobble them up.

If you remember, Ace was so good at the time that he was offered a position of a Shichibukai himself because he was considered a huge potential threat, which we even get to see at Alabasta where he single-handedly destroyed a platoon of Marine ships. And Burgess's Surge Elbow was so potent that it made a section of the coliseum collapse; something that even King Elizabello's King Punch couldn't achieve. It is very true that we haven't seen just how strong Burgess is, and that Sabo simply stopping one of his attacks doesn't amount to much, but it is pretty telling.

And you mustn't discount the thematic devices either. Drawing parallels between Ace and Sabo, and now between Sabo and Luffy, alone does not suffice to prove that he's vastly superior to either Burgess or Diamante (or to Vergo, for that matter), but it would never have been emphasized should it not be important. The fact that Oda himself is including small details like that in the story means something, and since Oda hasn't really been established to be an unreliable narrator in any other respect than with his character deaths, we can safely assume that Sabo was pretty much just as strong as Ace was (if not even stronger due to Dragon's direct influence) and that he is probably even stronger than Ace was right now because he's had two more years of time to train and hone his skills.

Vergos strength was acknowledged by Smoker who isnt a wakling and same as Burgess and Ace Vergo was shown as monster in therms of physical strength.
Also you point out fact of Ace being offered Warlord position- Doflamingo is Warlord for 10 years and he was sure that Vergo going blindly all out will be enough to mop the floor with Smoker, Law and Luffy. Vergo had close match with Sanji, then he beaten crap out of Smoker(if Smoker would be able to beat Vergo himslef he would get Laws heart back after beating V not in sneaky way and then asking Law to finish off Vergo). Also Vergo didnt looked all bad after all fighting and was ready to take on Law, later only falling to underestimating Laws DF power and not using speed to avoid slash from Law, just blindly tanking it.
So all in all Sabo and Vergo were till now were shown as big guns so to say and as Razh said Vergo should be at least as strong as Diamante and I cant see Sabo walking over him even with all hype that Sabo is lately getting. Vergo being Jokers right hand man in my eyes should be bit stronger even than Diamante.
