Breaking News!^^ Crunchyroll is going to simulcast one piece starting november 2nd. Here's the article: http://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2013/10/31-1/crunchyroll-to-simulcast-one-piece-anime I thinks it's great, since now more people will start watching it, who previosly couldn't on funimations channel.
Crunchyroll to simulcast One Piece!
-
-
Well the question is whether they'll have the damn proper opening or not.
-
Well the question is whether they'll have the damn proper opening or not.
Exactly this. Honestly the biggest factor for watching the Funi simulcast, for me, is the fact that they don't have the new opening. If crunchyroll does, then I'll happily watch there.
Also, great news, hopefully this will get more people into it!
-
A lot of people have been asking for this, so it's good to see that it's finally happening.
Now, are they going to put up all the subbed episodes that are currently available from OPOfficial or are they going to start from 619 forward?EDIT: Nevermind, I just read the whole article.
And are other Funimation-licensed shows going to come to Crunchyroll soon?
-
Sadly europe pretty much gets the short end of the stick each time. Toei probably doesn't wanna give them the license for most of the uropean countries, becaue they have already contracts set up with the companies there. The problem is that we just don't have a service like crunchyroll for example that streams the newest animes. Well now at least I can watch one piece legally on crunchyroll, since I can easily bypass the region blcoks with a proxy. Unfortunately only as a free member, since paypal always has the same error, when I try to buy a membership and they just can't fix it apparently.^^ Ah well 1 week wait isn't that bad. Although I think in the article it was stated that one piece also would be available for free memberson the same day. Hopefully that means for every episode not just the first that's getting simulcasted. The hoops one has jump through only to watch it legally, instead of watching it on illegal streaming sites, lol.
-
I feel that since they had to sub-license from Funimation for North America and Latin America has a 24 hour delay that it will be the Funimation stream
I like the new OP as well.

Well, i'm expecting it to be HD, not the awful resolution Funimation works with.

It sounds like they licensed it directly from Toei Animation, not FUNimation. FUNimation is specifically a North American company, not a Japanese company that has exclusive rights to multiple regions like that.
If you notice the show will be available in USA, Canada, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and Latin America. That correlates to the fact that those are all the regions Toei Animation Inc. deals with. And Toei Animation Inc. is an affiliated company of the larger Toei Animation Co. Ltd., which is the actual main company in Japan. If you look at the company description is follows:
TOEI ANIMATION has been distributing its popular Japanese Animation films and derivative character licensing through local partners all over American regions for over 13 years. TOEI ANIMATION INCORPORATED (TAI). a wholly-owned subsidiary of Toei Animation Co., Ltd. established in Los Angeles in March 2004, looks forward to spreading the world-renowned Japanese animation studio’s extensive library and pursuing co-production projects in North and Latin America and other English-speaking territories worldwide. The main business operations of TAI include film licensing in all media and emerging platforms, merchandise licensing and co-productions with local establishments.
The reason it doesn't cover U.K. and Ireland is cuz those rights are dealt with by Toei Animation Europe S.A.S.:
Considering access to the 5 major markets in Europe; France, Spain, Italy, Germany, and the UK; Toei Animation Europe S.A.S (TAEU) was established in Paris, France in December 2004.
The establishment of this local office enables direct and strategic planning with local major television stations and merchandising licensees.
TAEU also globally expands its boundaries for licensing in areas such as Eastern Europe, Russia, the Middle East, and Africa.http://corp.toei-anim.co.jp/english/outline/affiliated_companies.php

So now we have a title simulcasting from two different sources (one free, the other subscription) for the same region? Has this ever happened before?

I'm sure it's happened before, most recent example I can think of is Attack On Titan. Nothing groundbreaking about this.
-
"Fairy Tail" is the biggest example of something streaming on both FUNimation and Cruncchyroll for the North American market.
-
you know what this means? HIGHER RESOLTION AT LAST, no longer with those horrid 240p subs. and i love ya fnimation, but seriously, that shit got old. i want to watch 2013 episodes in 720p. now i can feel proud watching this off my 1080p tv.
i think its time to do the booty dance

Yes, but I figured simulcasting might be different. CR simulcasted Fairy Tail, FUNimation only streams it from the episodes they have licensed.

It's great we now have an option for higher resolution, but I never held FUNimation to it, at all. The idea of them really subbing and releasing the newest episodes an hour after they air (and for free) was so amazing, I couldn't even be bothered by the quality. I never full-screen the streams, anyway. The fact remains that they are free, and for what they provide for that, I can't complain.

no i love the service too, but man sometimes i found myself just praying for HD subs. the option is finally here and thats nice and at the exact same time too

On Crunchyroll it says it's also for free users, but I'm assuming HD is for subscribers only.
At least I can watch 480pI'm assuming the subtitles will be different?
-
So does crunchy have it yet or not? The anticipation is killing me.

From the Crunchyroll forums:
UPDATEHey guys, I know everyone's super excited for One Piece– and we are too-- but unfortunately it looks like the servers imploded from everyone's passion and excitement radiating through their computer screens!
BUT, do not panic! We have our team of highly trained video ninjas working as fast as they can to get One Piece encoded and ready for you guys as soon as they can, so just sit tight, grab some dinner, read some manga, and One Piece will be here before you know it!
-
@Galaxy:
From the Crunchyroll forums:
Well that's just swell:mad:
Hopefully it gets fixed soon.
-
It's up now. 480p is the highest resolution, and We Go! is still in use.
No preview at the end either, and the subs seem to be the same as FUNis (just a different font).
-
Wow. It's only up to 480p and that's for subscribers only.
! And not even Crunchyroll can get Hands Up!
EDIT: Ninja'd
Oh, on the right sidebar it says HD will be available shortly. And it's the same subtitles as Funi's (just a different font). -
Well the episode is finally up on crunchyroll, and for those wondering:
No they did not secure the rights to play the correct opening, though that shouldn't come as a surprise. Makes me wonder if that was the holdup, that being, trying to get the rights for the proper opening,or rather part of the reason.
On the bright side it did look fantastic on my big screen. Though hardly anything to get too excited about, regardless it still beats funi's player, and hulu.
Edit: well this is embarrassing,I've been beat to the Punch I see.
-
Even without Hands Up, 1080p HD and No Ads makes it superior to Funi's stream.
-
Can someony tell me why exactly they can't get the opening? Other simulcast shows don't have this problem.
-
I haven't been watching the anime since a couple episodes after Monet debuted. They aren't even playing Hand's Up in the simulcasts? The opening is 60% of the reason to even watch those - and are like 15% of the episode anyways. What's going on there, do they want the We Go! record to go on further for kicks?
-
1080p with no ads for free users?!!
I'm serious people. From now on I'm only watching the simulcast on Crunchyroll.

Damn. Can we get a link of where you are watching or is that only for subscribers?

One Piece is on crunchyroll for free users as well. It's pretty easy to find it if you just go to crunchyroll's website. For me it also has another added bonus since I use a tablet to watch anime while I work out, which I can do on crunchyroll but not on Funi's stream

From what I can gather, it's more of a licensing issue with Avex than Toei being stingey.
For some reason or another, they don't want that song to be simulcasted outside of Japan or something. -

So it's only happening with this one particular opening? I hope when the next one comes around they are gonna allow for it to be shown outside of japan.

HD is free?! It wasn't when I clicked on it
EDIT: Holy crap, it's true! Why the sudden change? -
Isn't it kind of funny how Episode 619 launched at the same time when One Piece was airing on Toonami?
Strange coincidence. -
Better than Funi's? I'll give it a shot.
EDIT: Unavailable on my country, for now at least :L
-
Wow, HD One Piece at last. And if you don't like subtitles, Crunchyroll lets you turn them off.
-
With this development, it's been the first time I've watche One Piece in a while. Besides being fed up with the mediocre animation, Funimation's video player was always laggy for me. And it wasn't my computer or internet connection. Every other video player worked fine. Plus, I hate watching tv on the computer screen anyway, so I kind of just stopped bothering. Now that it is on Crunchyroll though, I can stream it to my big screen through my Roku, which is really awesome.
-

I believe this may be a glitch. The notification that they have on the site that says that One Piece is now on Crunchyroll tells you to get a free trial to watch One Piece without ads.
-
Ah ok I'll take a look, thanks for telling me.
-
Usually, Crunchyroll puts the first episode of a series up for free with all resolutions. That's probably why.
-
Sorry if that has already been mentioned, but Crunchyroll's Simulcast will be four hours later (with the new time change) than FUNimation's, so there is still that benefit for FUNimation.
Personally, it probably won't effect me since I usually watch the Simulcast on Sunday mornings nowadays anyway.
EDIT: Nevermind, it now says they will upload it at the same time as FUNimation, and they did this week's episode.
-
looks amazing i'm still not paying for crunchyroll because i don't watch alot of anime to justify the purchase.
-
Hello folks. So some of the One Piece creative collaborators in Japan are interested in hearing what you have to think about the Crunchyroll simulcast.
Any comments including (but not limited to) general impressions, the ease of viewability, picture quality, ease of access, quality of translation, if it justifies the price and so on.
If you've ever complained that the big names don't listen to what fans abroad think, here's your chance to speak up so don't waste it.
-
The video quality is leagues better than the FUNi simulcast/any .TS raws.
Price is definitely justified, since there are plenty of other anime on the service that I plan to watch/am watching already. Translation is pretty great (although there are errors such as "We won't left anybody behind" in the opening rather than "We won't leave anybody behind.", that are also present in the FUNi simulcast (they seem to use the same subs)). Other than small nitpicks like that, it's great.
The only "complaint" I really have is the lack of the next episode preview at the end. Is there a reason they couldn't get their hands on it?
-
I guees I'll give my input.
So far…I really like it.
I've been using Crunchyroll for a few months, and during which, I haven't experienced any problems while watching shows. One Piece is no exception, of course.-The 1080p HD is crisp and clear. For the last two episodes, it took a few hours for the 720p and 1080p options to become available. I don't know if that's part of the new licensing agreement or if it takes a while to encode HD on the stream. Is it going to be like that from now on?
-I think I may have seen one or two grammatical errors, but besides that, the translations are pretty good.
-I don't want to go into the whole Hands Up! situation, since I know that's a whole 'nother can of worms that needs to be worked out.
-Like with Funimation's stream, I noticed that the next episode previews aren't included. Not a big deal, but it would be nice to see those brought over.
-
Could we voice our displeasure at being refused the opportunity to receive certain songs from Japan?
-
No we cant. We should be thankful for even getting the chance to work out other issues.
-
Could we voice our displeasure at being refused the opportunity to receive certain songs from Japan?
I doubt Toei is as involved as you may think. We've already learned anime isn't a package deal and that plenty of different aspects of a series fall under separate licenses. Nothing they could do about it.
-
Could we voice our displeasure at being refused the opportunity to receive certain songs from Japan?
Absolutely. I'd be happy to share those thoughts as well.
-
It's weird because on my campus internet everything on Crunchyroll loads too slowly in anything beyond SD, except One Piece which loads just fine even on the best settings
-
The HD streams from Crunchyroll are great, however I did notice that it took longer for the HD feeds to come through than the SD feed. At first, I thought this was CrunchyRoll's form of a paywall, getting access to the HD stream sooner. Apparently that's not the case, which is good.
I also voice my displeasure at the ludicrous licensing agreements that prevent English viewers from getting "Hands Up" as an opening. Considering how far we've come in the last few years to have One Piece available globally via legal means, it's asinine that any record label would deem it a hinderance to have their song aired outside of Japan. No exposure = no potential sales from those of us that like the music.
