I've always imagined (emphasis on my imagination) that he flew high enough that he was able to let go at the last available moment and fly some -though short- distance from the bomb so the blast threw him some distance as it did do damage to him - that pic showed him with scars on his chest so he was greatly injured.
But now that we've seen super-human endurance (Luffy, Zoro & even Usopp have survived injuries that should have killed a human in no time) and haki, I suspect its one of those things that saved him. Pell and Chaka are said to be the topmost fighters of Arabastra -defenders of the Royal family. We know that was some magic/special waters involved with some other guards (those 4 that faced Crocodile drank the ?hero? water to boost their strenght for a limited time) and whent he blast happened, a falcon statue seemed to break. It could be coincidence or it could be that the top 2 royal guards have a mysitical protection.
So - gret timed realeace (very low chances), or superhuman endurance, haki, magical protector of the land…. feh all of them sounds implausible but as unpredictable as Oda is, any of them could be it.

When watching OP for the first time, when i passed alabasta i never knew pell was still alive, until i got to after water 7 and saw him in the scene where the alabasta people look at the new wanted posters and he stood there. i then thought "huh? that guy was still alive?" and looked it up on the wiki and it said some shit about him still being alive and having survived the bomb etc. i didnt know the details but all that remained in my mind for some time was "okay apparently he's still alive"
but now i was re-reading the entire story and after passing alabasta, i noticed that at the end, pell is still not there and Igaram talks about pell's sacrifice.
so in the entire alabasta arc there is NO sign of pell still living, at all. then after water 7 we see him in ONE panel.so i was wondering: are we sure that oda didnt just make a mistake at that panel where he showed pell as well? is he really like, supposed to be alive?

Which i already answered to, he was not called the strongest. Honestly though, don´t believe anything youtubers say, it´s baseless most of the time.

Wow, thanks, that had escaped me before and I didn't realize the scope of the difference. I mean I knew they were tougher at HQ, but really didn't catch that a captain from east blue would be equal to someone three ranks lower of a captain at the HQ.
It reminds me of Usopp's comment about Garp back in Water 7. Usopp didn't say "Garp" but "Luffy's Grandpa is a marine from the Headquarters! Tthis is getting out of hand." Now I realize WHY that comment had so much weight to it …even if Usopp did not hear it was Garp ... or did he? he somehow knew he was form the Marine HQ...

We know that the person she was pissed at was Blackbeard. She may have known Ace, which is why she was so mad at Blackbeard.
I thought of that, but I thought maybe she meant somebody else, especially since she wanted to go to the New World immediately so I thought it might have been somebody there.
But yea Blackbeard makes most sense, especially since he captured her.
She was crying when WB was accused of being a traitor to his allies, so i think it is more likely that she has a connection to WB. Obviously, that connection could extend to Ace.

You misunderstood me,I'm asking how they left amazon lilly unescorted.This screenshot is from their travel towards amazon lilly(they were escorted by a navy ship hancock and okamas hijacked then the kuja ship).
I'm watching episode 507 and checked the corresponding manga chapter(591)and in both cases the sub marine is not escorted.

both are right,somewhat.the fire sword thing was actually a pun in japanese.nami was talking about saline density levels,and apparently in japanese it is somewhat similar to fire sword.since the joke didn't translate to english,cnet translated it as "slaying dynasty",to show that it was a pun.but yeah,he did indeed say he wanted a fire sword.
