Yes, yes it is. But it's here to have fun with what is a stupid argument that would otherwise turn stale, and keep things a bit interesting over the break.
So thank you for your input.
@Miss:
.. are you people seriously making diagrams of how and why it only "grazed" the heart? Christ.
I should know better, but I'm gonna say she's dead. I want things to change; prove them wrong, Oda.
2 week break. People get chapterless fever
I feel like some people are taking this more seriously than initially intended.
This is just a friendly wager to break up the monotony of a two week break, right?

in my worst Donflamingo impression "The old age of a friendly Arlong Park is over. This is the new age of hardened posters where only the wittiest survive."

In my best Perona impression So in that case this place will be a ghost town then? Oh,Hororororo?

Exactly .
It'll be interesting if Monet ends up like like Bellamy – "executed" off-panel and never spoken of or seen again for the past 40 volumes. She's definitely unimportant enough to just disappear like he and other past OP villains did, leaving their ultimate fate ambiguous. Though, unlike Bellamy, the supposed last moments are shown to clearly indicate a final death rattle, so if Oda is going to reassure us she is not dead, it will probably be done within one volume later (like with Brownbeard).
Her "death" scene is more explicit than most, who are otherwise presumed dead by an indirect blow, such as an explosion, electricity, or being cut in an general anatomic area (like Luffy's impaling by Crocodile). Surviving impaling and and other such (normally) fatal incidents are just a part of the usual super-shonen-toughness cliches that One Piece in particular falls back on A LOT and gets a way with by having that stuff generally strike the torso or body without a vital organ being affected or decapitating the head or torso (excepting logias and Buggy). Whitebeard losing half his head would be a notable exception if he had not eventually succumbed to the wounds.
However, Monet was stabbed indisputably in the heart. An explanation that it wasn't fatal because it was ice is utter bullshit because she is specifically a Snow logia and Ice (in the OP world) is a different element along with not being in logia form and having no logia control over the removed heart–like how Smoker wasn't able to just turn his heart into smoke and get it back earlier. Given that that Akainu's magma destroyed Ace's vital organs despite a possible heat/flame immunity, it would be just stupid in Monet's case. And since when can wounded logias heal and repair fatal wounds by drawing from a like element?
No one outside of Law or Dr Hogback doing a post-mortem heart transplant should be able to bring her back at this point considering the stabbing has already reduced her to a death-like state which makes it clear her heart has already ceased to function. It would be a huge stretch for Chopper or Law to be willing to do the necessary surgery to make the heart functional again at this stage (Law wanted this to happen after all), and would it in any way, shape or form be in character for Doflamingo to take the time to ressurect a fallen lackey who failed her mission, especially one that is of no apparent necessity (compared to CC)?
Practically every other "death" has some slim possibility of survival (they've got their vitals intact for starters), but Oda would have to pull something completely outlandish to pull a "not dead" reveal with Monet.
@Galaxy:
Tashigi confirmed his death.

Off topic, but… BB is a terrible translation.
i stand corrected but i still believe that monet isnt dead. :ninja:
she is a 'bigger' char than mr 11 so she is less likely to die.
is there any other confirmed death besides the one in the flashback and ace-WB? i always thought no one ever died so the fact that mr 11 actually died is kinda surprising even though he is next to an unnamed char. :blink:
She'll be the focus of the next cover-story. So I'm going with Not Dead
Next cover-story: "Monet and Vergo's Leisurely Survival Adventure of Leisureness."
Sign me up for the 'dead' team. It would be a welcome change if Oda actually killed her, though I doubt that he will.
I voted Not dead. If she would have succeeded in her goal of blowing up everything and the last thing we had seen of her was her smiling while thinking about making DoFlamingo the Pirate King, I could actually see Oda killing her off that way. I think after Aces and Whitebeards deaths and the timeskip, One Piece has gotten a little darker. Not as dark as some people would like it to be, but little kids getting forcefully addicted to drugs, some people being buried alive by Caribou (werent some of the fake Strawhats killed this way?) and now Monets heart being explicitly stabbed onscreen, thats all pretty dark stuff for One Piece previous standards. Still, when Oda does really kill a character, he usually does it in a big emotional scene, or pretty much offscreen (Bellamy, a lot of background characters etc.). I just can
t see him writing such a violent, sadistic death scene for Monet, who, while being insane and evil, was still a fun and interesting character and, in her last moments, even kinda sympathetic to us in her devotion to her Master. Oda took a really despicable character like Mr. 3, who basically tried to sadistically smother the main characters under a layer of wax, and turned him into a sort of hero, who helped Luffy. I mean, look at her:
Do you really think Oda would give her such a brutal death??
1.What if Monet barely survived and on the way to get CC,Law finds her and fix her with his power?(serious)
2.What if Monet barely survived and Franky somehow gets her and turn her into a cyborg?(less serious)
I've got the feeling that she won't die, but place me on the Dead group, i love risks :ninja:
Wasn't Zoro stabbed in the heart by Mihawk during their fight? It hurt Zoro, but it was nothing compared to a huge sword running through his torso. Well, Monet may not have the same endurance as Zoro, even East Blue Zoro, but she doesn't seem that fragile either. If Zoro can still stand up and fight reasonably well after a stab in his heart, then I do think Monet will survive even if she'll be unconscious for some time.
And I can deal with losing the wager if anything - my avatar is stupid enough already (it is, at least, if you've seen the tv series it is from :P) But it could go and take some time. I mean, if she really IS dead, it may not be outright confirmed, so the fact that she has not been seen alive since Punk Hazard will confirm her death at the end of the series (I think most people agree that for example Higuma is dead, but it isn't 100 percent for sure, and he hasn't been mentioned since chapter 1 except for Luffy shortly flash-backing to him almost 600 chapters later). However, if she is not, it could be revealed in a few chapters.
Hm…...Oda doesn't like to kill off his characters. And any confirmed deaths he does are the ending of a dramatic/emotional/tearjerking scene. Bellemere, Hiruluk, Whitebeard, so on and so forth.
But despite all of that, I can't help and say Monet will kick the bucket. Only because I feel it's almost impossible to survive a direct stab to the heart (where the organ is shown on camera), and if she did…...well, I'd be disappointed! If a on screen heart stab won't kill an OP character in real time, what will? And it's also the New World….everything is tougher.
Trust me, I know the opposing arguments, and was torn. I debated the issue in the chapter thread......but....yeah, I'm going with dead.
If I'm wrong, I'm wrong.
1.What if Monet barely survived and on the way to get CC,Law finds her and fix her with his power?(serious)
2.What if Monet barely survived and Franky somehow gets her and turn her into a cyborg?(less serious)
I'll bet all my money on this one, please.
She's not dead, but if we never see her again I won't be disappointed.
I want here to die but I'm gonna say she's not dead. Not dead.
She is a great character and all but she gets stapped through the heart. Im on the DEAD team
Haha this is Oda there is no way she's dead
2.What if Monet barely survived and Franky somehow gets her and turn her into a cyborg?(less serious)
I may be new here but I believe she will live.
(I think most people agree that for example Higuma is dead, but it isn't 100 percent for sure, and he hasn't been mentioned since chapter 1 except for Luffy shortly flash-backing to him almost 600 chapters later).
Higuma was eaten by the Lord of the Coast. That is confirmation of his death.
!
Oh and since Chapter 1 wasn't a flashback or anything, this is another "present" death.
She's definitely gotta be dead. Caesar could have just squeezed the heart and have her death be left ambiguous, but he stabbed it which leaves me with the impression that she is 100% dead.
I like to go against the odds, so I'm betting dead.
She's definitely dead. Stabbed in the heart by a guy who thinks he was killing Smoker - so yeah…..too bad for her.

He thought he had Smoker's heart, he was going for the kill. She's dead, no doubt about it.
Stab in heart = dead
There's already an answer to this. Aokiji's power is able to compensate for missing a leg (confirmed). Which means that it's not really that much more of a stretch to think that somehow the parts of Monet's heart that got damaged can be temporarily held in place by a mini-frozen snow wall.
Monet being able to make her snow solid (see: ice huts/etc) gives Oda that cop out. At best we'll get an explanation at the end of the arc about how the above defense mechanism kicked in without her knowing.
I don't think she's dead. People have survived worse deaths in this series.
I'm not saying anything like she's joining the crew or having major importance later on, but I seriously doubt she's dead.
This is One Piece. Not dead.
@Zp1:

This is the best explanation I've seen for how she'll survive yet. The snow coldness causes vessels to constrict, slowing blood flow and possibly causing hypothermia, which can allow her to survive another day.
It reminds me of how Eneru survived Wiper's Reject Dial attack.
I feel like we'll find out though sooner rather than later. Since Doflamingo does care about them, regardless of the outcome, he'll probably want to see them firsthand (maybe). I have no idea what Doflamingo coming to the island means for the story.
I'm in the not dead camp btw. Sure, Law was mentioned to be an excessively cruel person but I can't see Oda just allowing someone to die from an ally/antihero's actions and just end it like that, among other reasons.
I feel sorry for the people who say Monet is dying.
There should be a "Monet's fate never gets mentioned again; everyone remains convinced they were right" option to the poll.
Monet will live because of her snow fruit but it would be interesting to see her die…
For story purposes I want to say dead.
Oh yeah this is One Piece but they are dead!
not dead! law will save her and she will join his crew
I went with dead. I mean, Shura's dead, and he took a reject dial to the heart. A stab will kill someone, I'm sorry.
Someone should make a fanart on the example of "creation of adam" with Monet as Adam and Pell as in the place of god.
!
She's not dead though she'll die but something or someone will end saving her. I don't think it's anti-climatic if she dies here but it won't be great aswell.
@Foxy:
I feel sorry for the people who say Monet is dying.
If she's alive they (including me) will go "Oh she's alive. What do ya know?"
I don't see how that's worthy of pity.

Satori and the catbrothers died.
@Foxy:

Technically, she is dying. She's just not dead yet.
Satori and the catbrothers died.
Satori was banished, along with Shura and Ohm.
Sham and Buchi weren't confirmed dead.
Sham and Buchi weren't confirmed dead.
No, Zoro clearly states he killed Siam. Butchie wasn't confirmed dead, though. And Shura was killed. Satori and Ohm were banished. Yama is probably dead too, considering Robin broke his back and threw him off a cliff. Shura took a reject dial to the heart. Something that stopped Enel's heart. It killed Enel, but he brought himself back to life. If it killed Enel, it killed Shura.
If she's alive they (including me) will go "Oh she's alive. What do ya know?"
I don't see how that's worthy of pity.
It was a joke, because of the avatar they'll have if they lose the bet.
I'll take the risky route and go for Monet is dead.
Maybe if Doflamingo finds her, he could use her dead body as a puppet and attack the other characters, which is dark but pretty awesome.
I am starting to get "Dead Man's Chest" flashbacks.
All we need now is a jar of dirt.
