I feel like they're due, plus it's about time for San Diego to start their annual mid-season collapse.
NFL Season 2012

That game just feels weird. Brees is going out to break Unitas's record, Payton is being allowed in the building, the Saints are at home, and the first week with the regular officials back their offense started really humming again. They're desperate for a win, so I think their offense wins the battle at home, and I'm not convinced the Chargers offense can keep up. That team lives on the backs of a really good looking defense. Granted if the Chargers offense is ever going to keep up, it'll be against that horrid Saints defense. I think the Chargers win this matchup 4 times out of 5, but I also think that things stack up this time around to be that 1 out of 5.
It's sort of like how I picked the Rams over the Cards, and I'm not the only one. I don't even think the Cards are good enough to make the playoffs, so I certainly don't think they're as good as their record. In the same vein, I don't think the Saints are as bad as their record. I think they're much closer to a 6-10 or 7-9 football team than an 0-16 or 1-15 football team.
-
The hard pick of the week is the Pennsylvania Bowl.
-
You all make some good points, but be cause I am a loyal Chargers fan I shall retort with "Na na na na na I can't hear you."
Anyway I went 13-2 last week bringing me to 33-30 on the season.
Also, I had picked the Cards, so there's one L for me this week.
Miami at Cincinnati
Green Bay at Indianapolis
Baltimore at Kansas City
Cleveland at New York Giants
Philadelphia at Pittsburgh
Atlanta at Washington
Seattle at Carolina
Chicago at Jacksonville
Tennessee at Minnesota
Denver at New England
Buffalo at San Francisco San Diego at New Orleans
Houston at New York JetsAlso, as someone who loathes the Jets I love how their season has already collapsed on itself.
-
I have to say the Rams are underrated. Each game they are improving a lot this year. I say in the next year or two. They will be ready to be a playoff team.
-
What a finish to the Green Bay Indy game. Just wow.
I wonder if the Packers can get into FG range.

It was very much a "what else could possibly go wrong" sort of game from Green Bay. Key injuries, a very good kicker missing 2 from 50, bad calls that even had the announcers commenting on how GB couldn't catch a break, and Reggie Wayne having one of the best games I've ever seen.
Still, no excuses. Very gutty performance from the Colts who seemed to do a good job riding the emotional day. Impressive game by them and they earned the win. It's bitter as a Packer fan and we can't help but think that everything seems stacked against us this year, but props to Indy for how well they played the 2nd half. I'd really rather not see more neutral analysts comment on how GB has gotten shafted with calls 3 weeks in a row, because they shouldn't need to rely on the officiating and it's frustrating to think about, but I know that it'll pop up this week. I can't help but have that thought in the back of my mind, and the last thing I want is to see people validate it. Hell, I'm already commenting about it and just doing that makes me sick. Ugh.
At least the bad calls mostly occurred in the first half, and really shouldn't have had much of an effect on the outcome of the game. The thing that bugs me most about this team right now is that it can't seem to play with a lead very well at all. Way too passive when in that position, and that was once an anomaly but is now turning into a disturbing trend.

Niners killed the Bills 45-3 O.O Also first team in history with 300 yards passing and rushing in the same game.

–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Frustrating loss tonight, and it all comes down to that terrible call against Ingram that negated the pick six.
Real refs can be just as frustrating as the normal ones.
-
The refs called the end of that game waaaay too closely. I was hoping for an overtime thriller. Can't say I'm surprised, though. The Saints have been getting the benefit of the calls so far this year from what I've seen. At least it's a team that deserves a little slack this year.
But like always it can't be an excuse. Chargers won't win many games when they give up 31 points. They also can't allow Gaither to get stuck on an island at the end of the game if he can't move. They're still in good shape to try to win the division.
-
I have an iffy feeling about tonight's game. :/ I know our guys are an overall superior team, but I know that tonight will be a tough game. a good reason for this feeling is probably because even though San Francisco ran the ball for 245yrds., they did a lot of wild cat plays and guess what, Schaub doesn't do wild cat plays. At all. And, while I'm sure they prepared for both QB's and our defense will undoubtedly pound Sanchez's face into the ground, as well as Tebow's, I just have this gut feeling that for most of the game it will be close. I mean it was close with the 49er's until the 4th quarter.
But then again, talent likes to rise to the top, and to be honest, I believe we have more of that talent in Houston than the jets do, especially right now.
So I think we'll have a close tough win or, something will happen in the first half that will drain the jets dry of confidence and we will walk all over them. And, I think we'll see Schaub actually passing more then these NFL analysts are expecting. plus, with out revis, there's really no one on the jets team that will give Andre a difficult time receiving, much less good challenge.
so I think it'll be either HOU 21 to 10 NYJ or HOU 42 NYJ 13
-
I expect the Texans to tear the Jets a new asshole. No Revis or Holmes? Hell, I don't think they even have Stephen Hill for that matter. What are they expected to do? Their one prayer would be to start Tebow all game so that there are fewer possessions. Then it'll be a low scoring game which won't look as bad.
I mean, it seems to me like Houston would have to come out seriously flat for the Jets to have any chance. I predict that it will be over by halftime.
-
Santonio Holmes is out too I believe…they are seriously bad on offense. I wouldn't worry but this is the NFL so anything can happen. Niners lost to the Vikings who I thought they should of beat handily.Although the Vikings are better than people thought so far.
-
So I went into tonight with a 9 point lead in my money league. I was out of players while my opponent had Andre Johnson, Ben Tate, and the Houston defense left to play. So basically I need a miracle to win.
So far, so good, Tate is inactive, Johnson hasn't had a single reception and Houston D hasn't done much other then that interception. Could I possibly pull this off?
-
nope.
:Dtold you it was going to be close. and they tried almost every trick int he game, switching new players and QB's almost every other play, and you know WATT? Still beat'em.
-
Whelp, I had him beat, until the Jets last drive. The sack followed by the interception were enough to give my opponent a 0.82 lead. Heartbreaker.
-
That game was a lot closer than I was expecting. Houston kept stalling and settling for field goals, and the Jets had that kickoff return. So many little things like an interception returned for 85 yards and then tackled which forces a field goal. The Jets put up a hell of a fight.
I love JJ Watt. He was one of my favorite players when he was at Wisconsin, and I was really excited to see him have a great rookie season last year. It looks like the guy can be a monster in any situation.
Green Bay at Houston next week? Bleh. I was hoping a blowout win would make them complacent.
-
I am a mod on a Chargers forum. Today we had a Saints fan join just so he could post this message:
I am not a Chargers fan. I am a football fan, or was a football fan. After tonight I am done. I want my Saints to win but not like this. That was not a hit to the chin to Drew Brees, that was not pass interference by Antonio Gates, that receiver was out of bounds and they kept the clock running and there was a conference as to whether or not Brown had the first down or not while they kept the clock running and not giving the Chargers the time back that they wasted while getting to the obvious. What?!! It is a shame what is happening to sports. It is all about the bucks. No more integrity. I am done. I will find other things to do with my Sunday's.
Even if it doesn't change anything, it helps that there are some fans who recognize BS when it happens.
Still, the Chargers flat out let that game slip through their fingers, refs or no. All I can hope is that they rebound strong and put Denver in check going into the bye. Then I can start to feel a lot more comfortable, as the Bolts are always strong after their byes under Turner…ignoring last season...

No sir. Thankfully, we're not that kind of team. This Sunday though, I think will be an even more difficult game for us because of the fact that we won, and the Packers are looking for a win. I think it'll be a high scoring game as well.
We have a LOT to work on with our secondary. They looked horrible Monday night and they need to get there shit together if they want to stop Aaron from throwing some TD passes to James Jones or even Alex Green. But that's not to say that Matt wont be doing the same. Owen, Case, and Andre will be hungry next week, especially Andre! I know he's not thinking about the 67 yards he needs to reach 10K, but I bet a lot of other team mates are.
and Lets not for get about Tate, who will most likely be playing this Sunday and will be looking to get some good rushing yards.
What worries me about the packers is ((because I also like Green bay as well)) that their o-line is nothing to praise and after the injury reports, I don't know how their front seven will deal with the defensive monsters that are the Bulls On Parade. And, with Watt leading the league in sacks, I think Aaron better stay nimble and on his toes if he doesn't want to get added to his(( Watt's)) sack list.
All in all I know it'll be an exciting game and I know every one in Houston will have thier eyes glued to the screen.
-
No sir. Thankfully, we're not that kind of team.
Did you not see the game against the Jets? The Texans looked flat to me. That's not a knock against them either. Every team is like that.
JJ Watt WILL get at least one sack. It's practically written in stone. Rodgers takes more sacks (the last 3 years) than anyone not named Roethlisberger. His focus in the offseason was his flexibility so that he could better avoid injury. I certainly wouldn't count the Packers out, but their offense has not been sharp at all to begin the year. Take away Jennings, Finley, and Benson, and it doesn't get any easier.
I have a theory about the Packers based on the interviews I read during the offseason. Their biggest concern and focus for this year was how to get hot at the right time. Two years ago, when they won the Super Bowl, they started the season with too large of a playbook according to the coaches, and as a result they didn't get good enough at any of the plays. When they got hot and unbeatable towards the end of the year, they had trimmed their playbook down and got really good at the plays they wanted to run. That's also how they started the season last year. Well, to start this year, one thing I noticed they were saying was that they had expanded the playbook again, so do the math. I still don't think they expected to be 2-3 right now, and really by all rights shouldn't be and they've found themselves in the worst positions this year so far (Seattle call, Colts emotional explosion, etc). But that's their situation and they can't afford to drop many more games at this point. I think that having more than 5 losses for the year would be very dangerous for playoff chances.
I'm not in panic mode, because it's still the same roster that went 15-1 last year and they're far from old. Still though, they need to get sharp in a hurry.

The Texans played a completely different kind of Jets team than the 49ers. The jets came playing like they were in the Superbowl.
They didn't use Tebow as much against the 49ers, they didn't lose a star player on there team which cut there moral in half, have an onside kick, switch QB's every other play, switch players and put them in different positions for just a certain play, fake a punt, etc etc.So, in my opinion I think that we overcame something that probably should have been a loss, and it would have been if we were last year's Texans.
Honestly I think watt and others will rack up maybe 3-4 sacks this Sunday with the way your o-line is looking. :/
-
The Jets played well. It was one of the best special teams performances they'll ever put up. Cromartie did a great Revis impersonation to help their defense out too. I don't mean to take anything away from them and what they did.
But the Texans still DID come out and play flat. Don't tell me that letting the Jets college level wide receivers run wide open behind the defense is normal for them. The ugly breakdowns in the secondary were one example of why the Texans didn't exactly put forth their best effort.
The Texans will get their sacks against the Packers, but if the secondary plays like it did against the Jets they won't win. They are capable of playing better than that, and I expect them to.
-
Bears got it done in the second half against Jax. The defense is really looking dominant this year. Since they don't play this week, it frees me up to watch The Walking Dead Marathon.

Well, I'm leaving for work with RG3 still in. Hopefully he does in fact play, otherwise I'm screwed.
-
The Rams defense looks great today so far.
-
The Browns won a game,
The Raiders almost beat the Falcons.
Dallas lost, again because of errors. ((and because they suck))
Good grief today has been an unexpectedly interesting game of football.and soon, in about an hour and a half, we'll have the game of the week. GNB@HOU
and I'm nervous as all get out.man this is going to be a good game. ajkfhgajkdghjkadfgadfg
-
Well. The ending to Cardinals-Bills was quite exciting.
-
I've only picked 3 games right so far…
At least RG3 did well...
-
Look out NFL, the Packers have finally had enough. They looked really good again even without a bunch of star players. The Texans didn't help themselves by shooting themselves in the foot… repeatedly. Yes, every team will do that from time to time.
Biggest news of the day is the Ravens taking it on the chin of their defense. 3 of their top 4 defensive players are injured (Lewis, Ngata, and Webb), and 2 of them (Lewis and Webb) are feared to be done for the year. I hate the Ravens, but that's still unfortunate.
-
The Afc East is a mess

Which means they're technically down 4 of their top 5, can't forget about Suggs.
-
It must suck to be a Cowboy fan. Also, only two or three teams in the entire AFC will have winning records after tonight depending on who wins. AFC East is all tied for first and last at 3-3 lol. And their two 5-1 teams have both been whipped by NFC teams.
Which means they're technically down 4 of their top 5, can't forget about Suggs.
Well, right, but he's been out all year so I wasn't really counting him.
-
Yeah, it's seeming like a real down year for the AFC. Patriots have lost their dominance for some reason, the Steelers are old, the Ravens D is shattered. Houston is the only teams that looks like they have it together, they should be able to gain some confidence next week when Foster runs for 200+ yards against Baltimore.
-
If there is something to be said, at least the people in San Francisco got to see a Giants team dominate yesterday
-
Aaaannnnnddddd the Broncos take the lead. It seems like the 2010 Iron Bowl all over again.
-
I have nothing to say. Nothing that means anything anyway.
I'm a fool for thinking that this year's team was different. Sam old San Diego blowing a 24 point lead at halftime.
Rivers is done in this league. He can no longer lead San Diego anywhere.
I'm going to go drown my sorrows in Borderlands 2 now…
-
Crazy game, and what a comeback. Rivers confuses me quite a bit. A few years ago the guy was unquestionably one of the 5 or so elite QB's in the entire NFL. Right there with Manning and Brady but younger. So… what happened? Because now he's... well... he's just not, and I don't know why. He completely came apart in the 2nd half. Now, don't get me wrong, I still think he's a good QB, and solidly in the top half. But it's a long fall from where he used to be.
As hilarious as the AFC East is for every team being 3-3, the AFC West has two of those teams, while the other two have 1 win apiece. That division is still a 2 horse race that could go either way, and the Chargers still have what seems like a very good defense. But Rivers has got to play better.
Hell, right now BOTH wild cards in the AFC are 3-3, as sad as that is.
-
Over all I'm just so disappointed in all the stupid mistakes we made Sunday night. The packers took the pace and we couldn't steal it back from them. I knew it was going to be a tough game, but to pull off so many penalties in one half of a football game is just downright amateur.
If we don't get our shit together we're going to go back to being a a horrible team with an above average defense.
The ONLY person on the Texans that did a satisfactory job was Watt, with two sacks and a deflected ball, he stood out among all the horrible things we did Sunday night and now stands atop the sack leaders in the league.
Sigh. If we don't put a beat down on the ravens who are suffering worse then we are, then I think I'll be at a loss for words. Not to mention other teams will be looking at that film and taking notes, so now we'll have to come up with new ways to win.
-
Kaze, at least the Texans didn't blow a 24 point lead and are still in command of their division and the AFC as a whole.
-
@Nex:
Kaze, at least the Texans didn't blow a 24 point lead and are still in command of their division and the AFC as a whole.
True, but I expected a much better performance over all from them. Even iff we lost I expected it to be a close and GOOD game. Not a massacre and a HORRIBLE game.
-

I wouldn't overreact to one game too much. I mean, if the blueprint is "throw spectacular highlight reel touchdowns and rely on them to self destruct in the process," then it's not a particularly easy one to replicate.
The Texans didn't suddenly become a bad team because of one bad game. They seem so far ahead of the rest of the conference after what happened to the Ravens that it's almost ridiculous. No team is immune to putting up a stinker here and there, and it's safe to say that all the stupid mistakes were an aberration rather than some strange new standard for them. If they handle it well, it'll be a humbling experience for them that could make them better. And there's really no better time for that to happen than against an out of conference opponent who may have been borderline impossible to beat on that specific sunday anyway. And I don't mean to say the Packers are always going to win that game. It's just that on that specific day, with the position they were in, it'd be tough to match their intensity. The Packers needed that win badly, while the Texans didn't really need it at all.
They still seem like they're by far and away the favorite to win the AFC. But if they meet the Packers again in the Super Bowl like I predict, then they might want to rethink that press coverage thing.
-

Tell me about it.
Our secondary looked horrible. Down right horrible. and Our runners kept slipping, multiple times. good grief did that tick me off.And I don't think it's a new standard for us, I just think we could have played a lot differently and the game would have, and probably should have, been a lot closer than what it turned out to be.
I do agree about the humbling experience thing. I thought about that yesterday and I said that we should learn a lot from this.
I just hope we can regain our selves and beat the ravens, then we have to go play Chicago IN Chicago. Honestly, maybe Schaub was a little rusty at throwing for almost an entire game, I mean he hasn't had to do that since like '09.We're not int he same situations as the packers, but I think that the team should know what it feels like now. We actually need a win this Sunday to stay atop the AFC. nd our biggest advantage is playing at home, so hopefully we can manage somehow.
-
Speaking of slipping, two packers players were lost for the year on that field, and another two for the game. There seem to be a lot of people questioning the way they manage the turf in Houston, saying that the seams between the 1300 or whatever squares of turf they piece together are dangerous. I'm not sure how much I buy into the injury concerns, since the Texans aren't losing players to it, but it could be that the Packers used a poor choice of cleats for it or something. Either way, I wouldn't discount a slipping problem.
By all rights, the Texans should be downright mad about how they played on Sunday. Not even just getting beat, but committing so many stupid penalties has to be embarrassing when they go back and watch the film. I'm not going to be surprised if Foster runs for 200 yards against the Ravens by going directly over people. Losing that game would be a lot more difficult for them to explain, considering the Ravens have the same record yet might as well practice in a hospital this week.
The Texans should do fine against Chicago as long as they're smart enough to play a safety over the top against Marshall. If not, it could be a long game.

As a Pats fan, why can't Belichick draft a good defense? Ever since Bruschi, McGinest, Milloy, Harrison, Seymour, etc. all left or retired (Belichick didn't even draft or trade for these guys - Parcells got them), we've had a crap defense for the last 4-5 years, with like what, two good players? (Vince Wilfork, and Chandler Jones), cause the LB corps is only good at stopping the run, for the most part, and can't really stop the pass. why can't our defense be good enogh to win without brady having to play perfect?
In speaking of Brady, has he lost his epicness ever since he started dating Gisele. He hasn't been as nearly as clutch (in his first like 5-6 years, he made clutch and overall quarterbacking look so easy, yet, around the time he lost to the Giants in the 07 super bowl, he hasn't had the same epicness) as he was, he seems uncomfortable about who he's throwing it to. Even outside of football. His personality has changed, now he's a metrosexual who doesn't seem to have the real "team guy" type feel - and i mean by that is that back then, for example, when Lawyer Milloy was traded, he showed he was pissed off - compared to how now, with the Welker drama, he seems to be acting corporate and all business like now.
why wcan't we just friggin win the dayum super bool

A Pats fan is complaining about a lack of Super Bowls? The hell? What a lack of appreciation for what that team has accomplished the last decade.
When I see a Pats fan act like that, all I can do is bring up spygate, and how they haven't been able to win it all since. I'm not saying they can't win without cheating, but rather I'm just saying that karma and the football gods haven't acted kindly towards the Patriots' handling of it. The whole "I didn't know I couldn't do that" act still annoys me to this day.
-
Hell, right now BOTH wild cards in the AFC are 3-3, as sad as that is.
It boggles the mind that the Titans have given up ninety more points than they have scored, are 2-4, and are still just about a game behind the league average.
-
Hopefully the Niners can get back to being good tonight. :(
