Well now I want peaches dammit.
Post how your day was…

Sure, it's not cooking, but I used to do really repetitive stuff for data entry. I had a stack of pieces of paper literally about as tall as the room I was in and I had to put them all into a database over the course of a month or two. It was hugely hugely repetitive, but I actually found that after a while, it became so automatic that it was almost relaxing. I could think about other things as I typed in address after address. It's similar with other 'grindy' tasks I've had like filing releases at the publishers I used to work at. For whatever reason, I'm okay with that kind of thing.
I suspect this is the result of having grown up on RPGs. Killing the same few enemies over and over in the hope of getting a rare drop (I'm looking at you, Pink Tails of Final Fantasy IV) has prepared me well for the working world!

I remember I once had a summer internship where a common assignment would be to check already entered data. I would just generate a suitably sized random sampling of entries from any given batch to check, and then go through and check the version in the database against the paper version. Unfortunately, I couldn't really go on autopilot while doing that, considering it's all too easy to gloss over mistakes that way, which would of course have defeated the entire point.
I actually ended up finding a mistake at one point, which I quickly discovered was systematic over some range of entries. It gave me a rather strange mixed reaction. On the one paw, that was obviously a bad thing, but at the same time, I actually felt sort of glad that all the busywork I'd been doing ended up being vindicated, in a way. This was also compounded by me feeling bad for whatever poor soul would have to go through and fix everything.
It actually took me a whole minute or two to come to the obvious realization.

That's what I was doing for the rest of my time at the publishers! Though with enough time you at least become able to recognise where errors are most likely to occur. It's a funny ol' job, being a proofreader or bug-checker or some similar role, as the more things have gone wrong, the more your role is vindicated. It's possibly also why sometimes you're disliked because you seem to other people in the office to be creating problems that weren't there beforehand.
A job's a job, I guess, and if someone has to do it…

Aww. So mean to Panda-chan. (Just wait till he reveals his killer panda smash)
In five years he'll be sufficiently rested to make a move
Then go back to lazing on a log. Maybe with a sombrero
Now I really really want jam…
But you have none. One could say that you are in a jam:ninja:

Now y'all have gone and made me hungry.
I wouldn't mind peaching for days, so long as someone else cleaned it up.

I'm reading this on the way to my lab. Passing through Peachtree Street, West Peachtree Street, Peachtree Drive and Peachtree Close along the way.
Atlanta has some of the least imaginative street names ever. It's either peaches or Southern heroes. -
muahaha
I was in some election at the mosque. I'm not really sure what for, but the guy running it said you should be voting for someone who's regular in prayer, active in the community … blha blha ... and preferably they should have a beard. Not bursting out into laughter was difficult.

Went to see a musical in Berlin on Sunday (Tanz der Vampire).
The gang and I played Heavy Rain till midnight on Saturday, left at 5am Sunday morning (so no sleep that night for me), drove around for 1000km/11 hours that day, watched the musical, went to a fancy restaurant, and eventually came back home at 3am - just in time to get some sleep cause I had to get up at 7am for university. AND I had to work till now/past midnight.
I was hella tired the entire day, but RIGHT NOW I'm not anymore.
Well fuck you too, body. -
and haw do you liked it? Some of my friends are really hyped for that musical. Even to point of considering learning German.

Fucking amazing. Totally worth the money and time we spent to see it. I really regret only getting into it now, seeing how it won't be around for much longer. I'd love to see it again. And again.
The entire performance was superb, only one single role wasn't quite as good as it could have been, but it wasn't a main role anyway, and it certainly wasn't a bad performance. I totally get why my friends have seen it 10+ times already (and said friends said this was the second best they have ever seen, with hands down the best leading lady and Professor, so … yeah, a perfect first time for me, I suppose!).
The songs are catchy as hell, I've been singing them all day. I even hijacked the audio system at work and forced everyone to listen to it, heh. Also, we had great places - exact middle, first row.

I was debating to post this or not but-
Last night at work, when I was cleaning out a popcorn bin…..I reached up to clean the butter dispenser and...well, some of the spray whizzed past it (bad angle, I guess) and got in this poor girl's eye. Naturally I freaked out and was apologizing like crazy.
Then my heart sank into my intestines when she went to the bathroom to try to clean it out....and her father wanted to speak to a manager.
(oh my god I am so fired) <- my thoughts
But my co-workers, including the security guard, said I shouldn't get worked up, that it was an honest accident, and that the dad was making a bigger deal than it truly was. Although when I hear that paramedics had to be called and when I saw the flashing lights of red and blue....I wanted to crawl into a ball and die.
Good news, though. a) the girl was fine b) the paramedic was like "it's just soap and water" (my manager later told me his other kids said "see! I TOLD you!") and c) I didn't get in trouble. No warning, nothing. Guess I worried for nothing, but I was just so relieved the girl was okay.
But trouble or not, I fear it's clumsy things like this that will eventually make me slip up, big time. And the sad part, I want to keep this job for as long as possible. How can I do that if I make mistakes? :X
-
I spent an hour and a half this afternoon cooking a chilli with rice and a side-dish of fried potato with sauces. Okay, nothing really fancy, but one thing I've not really said here is that I eat really poorly. Most days I eat a pizza, or a bowl of pasta, if that, and I'm used to spending most of the day hungry. This has been my effort to start dragging myself out of that, because it's really taking a toll on my ability to do things over the course of weeks. So I set aside some time off work today after having been sure to have food for breakfast, and just cooked for an hour, and I'm feeling so much better for it. I know it sounds really trivial though.
But trouble or not, I fear it's clumsy things like this that will eventually make me slip up, big time. And the sad part, I want to keep this job for as long as possible. How can I do that if I make mistakes? :X
Ach, that sounds a really worrying situation. I think though that if you were going to be in deep trouble for it, it'd already have happened. Mostly, it seems that you behaved well given the situation, and that has to stand for something. Just so long as you don't do it again, and I doubt you will given how much of a chance accident it sounded, especially given you're going to be extra-careful in the future. Good luck, Meta.
-
Everybody makes mistakes. A lot of mistakes. Just familiarize yourself as best as possible with the things you are more likely to make mistakes in. And don't let it psyche you out. If you get too worked up over them, you won't be able to focus well.

My dad have a saying that goes "the only ones that don't do any mistakes are those that don't do anything at all", or something like that. :) Working at the same place as him I've heard it a few times… I make mistakes about every turn I take. :P

Thanks guys. I do tend to let mistakes bother me for hours and hours (one of my flaws I need to fix), but I'm honestly a LOT better than I was when I was younger. The old Meta would be sobbing uncontrollably and clawing his eyes out. (no, I am not kidding, I was once that bad)
I was worried, but it could've been a lot worse if I spiraled into chaos.
-
Gosh that sounds awful. But it really does sound like a genuine accident, and everyone seems to be on your side. Don't worry! hugs You seem to have been doing a good job there and I know you'll keep doing well. <3 I also think you responded well :)

Like several people have already said, I wouldn't beat yourself up over this. I've only been teaching for two weeks now, and I've already made a few mistakes. Just keep learning from them, and knowing what you did will definitely prevent the same mistake happening in the future.
-
I know that feeling very well. It's especially palpable when you haven't had much more than short term jobs before
But like most people said you'll eventually have to realize that there is no such thing as a perfect employee

I've been stung by a wasp. Twice. I'm in pain ever since. Thankfully it's not as bad as I've anticipated.
Sometimes reading this thread is really heartwarming.

not really. I think the wasp lived, although I lost patients when the wretched thing stung me second time instead of flying away.

Okay I hate killing wasps but if one would bite me twice in a row I'd suit up and toast the motherfucker.

when i read this, all i could think of was you as a brain surgeon or something shooing away a wasp during surgery and getting stung a second time and freaking out, and people watching through the window were like 'well we certainly aren't coming here again"

I guess I'm not very vengeful. And I didn't want to kill it on my head. I've only managed to throw it away.

Had an appointment for an oral hygienist today. I was expecting myself to freak out, because I have a fear of dentists and mouth operations in general. Turns out that I didn't, which was fantastic! (Though my stomach took care of dealing with my anxieties… shudder) And what's even better is that even though my last appointment was six years ago... I only had one small beginning of a cavity. I can't believe my luck. I was 100% sure that I had at least three of those suckers. Booya!
-

nothing that dramatic. I was tending to a garden.

Thanks !! I really want to belive in luck or be optimistic about this…but it´s hard as hell.
OT: Right now I´m on volume 20 of One Piece..the nostalgia.
My mom said I should send my resume to that library specialized in music. I'm afraid that it will be worst than the last one.
Right now, I have this options:Library specialized in RPG/Sci-Fi = Close to my house, liked the place.
Library specialized in music = Far from my house, horrible place, but if I work hard it can be good.
Library specialized in folklore = Not very far from my house, I´m not a expert about folklore.
Library specialized in movies = Very far from my house, again, I´m not a expert about the subject. -

Unless they ram needless into the eyeballs of every person that comes in, I find that hard to imagine.

I was sitting in my room, and my mom walked by, slowing down and starting a conversation, until she heard the Doctor Who theme.
She just kept walking then, saying "Nevermind, you go ahead and cry some more, I'll tell you later."You just gotta love my mom. She doesn't know anything about Doctor Who (I did explain some stuff to her though), but she knows THAT much.

So tomorrow is results day, where I find out about that one particular grade which decides between which Uni I go to between someplace and someotherplace.

Sooo every day when I leave work and walk across the street to wait for the bus, there is always at least one person/group of people who drive by with their windows rolled down screaming some unidentifiable words while staring me down, or honking while staring me down. Though I've become kind of used to it, it sometimes still gets me down since I was born and raised in that neighbourhood, which is basically the picture of multiculturalism.
It's kind of shocking to experience this in the city where I live, but it still happens every day without fail. No, I'm not just being paranoid, it actually happens. Why? Well the only reason must be because I like to wear the cultural arabic dress called an "abaya" to work, which are commonly black in colour. What else could it be? I'm just standing at the bus stop minding my own business o_O
Will I stop wearing abayas because I get heckled every time I take the bus? Nope, I couldn't care less what these drive-by cowards think of me, I just wish they were man enough to say it to my face so I can politely destroy their preconceived opinions of me.
Anyhow, I posted my disappointment on Facebook, and a friend I made online, the coolest (and only) skinhead I know responded with this gem (after offering to follow behind me in skinhead gear and give dirty looks to the hecklers, lol) :
Here is an amusing little drive by story for you…
Almost a year ago I was out walking my dog Pama when she stopped to use the bathroom. I'm a good owner, so I scooped it up, just as a car full of kids chucked a few eggs at us. They missed….
I responded by throwing something back at them. A very fresh bag of Pama poop….
It exploded all over their back window.
I haven't had anyone try to egg us since haha
Sometimes life lines up perfectly. That was one of them haha
I was grateful for the laugh. I met this dude and his girlfriend on the most bigoted group I have ever seen on Facebook, where I saw them defending muslims and Islam from the venomous spew of a hoard of idiots. They were surprisingly knowledgeable about different cultures and religions, and even debated a bunch of incredibly narrow minds >_>. I learned that this is actually their lifestyle as skinheads. Learn something new every day.

I have the house for myself(and animals) up until saturday since my parents went visit my grand parents, and i stay since i have work.

I once beheaded a wasp with a knife… When it was in mid-flight. It's the crowning achievement of my life. :P
Is there a metal song about that? If not, there needs to be. SARFALLET, DEATH TO DEATH FROM ABOVE. And then you could have the wasps' buzzing noises in place of the guitar.
–Haven't really done much today, 'cept snipe some dudes on TF2. Sniper's the hardest class in the game for me, and I imagine TF2 is one of the hardest games to snipe in, due to the fact that people are not moving statically, but jump all over the place at different distances and all have different movement speeds. Here's a cool video of a RIDICULOUS Sniper that I had to face. I was wondering why he was destroying our whole team, looked him up and saw that he was in fact, a competitive Team Fortress 2 Platinum Sniper. I'll sometimes see the rare occasion that a Medic Kritzkriegs a Sniper (this has always baffled me). It's guys like this that make that a viable option in the first place. Yes, he is head-shotting the people who come at him at ridiculous angles.
Other than watching that video for the billionth time, I cleared my head for a bit and finally got to writing that novel I've had in my head. It's going well so far. I wanna write 10 pages at least a day, but I do stop if it starts to suck, and I take a break after every page.
