Tiki and Seth would make it a day 1 buy for me.
General Musou Warriors Thread

I can't wait to conquer the battlefield as Oliver, Protector of Beauty and Sigrun's Husband.
-
Oh, and I bet Jakob or Felicia would get added too. Gotta have one person to serve all those nobles.
-
I dislike the distinct lack of Laguz in that list. Oh yea, and no ninja class? Kaze please.
Also, who's Thomas again?
-
Oh, haven't tought about villians, that's a prime source of dark magic users.
Let's talk mechanics,
Class Change: (pick one)
- Drop it
- Battle powerup transformation
- Character levelup progression
Mounts: (pick more than one)
- Dash
- Super attacks
- Item based
Weapons:
- They decay
- They work as a regular Warriors game
Weapon change:
- on the start of battles
- inside battle
Weapon triangle:
- Meh
- Needed
- Drop it
Support system:
- Grow an army, pick and deploy your waifus and husbandos
- ??
Character growth:
- Fire emblem focused (random rolls)
- Warriors focused (set growth)
-

None of the Laguz are popular enough to include, but I suppose Ranulf or Reyson would be the best options. Same goes for ninjas, though I definitely thought about including Kaze.
Thomas is apparently how my phone autocorrects Ryoma.

That's kinda hilarious XD
Even without massive popularity I'd imagine Laguz inclusion just out of the base principle of diversifying gameplay more. But ultimately, who knows what they'll focus on.

Well to be fair Ryoma is a tank, not an engine of course but a tank nonetheless.
-
Thinking about it more, just focusing on Awakening and Fates would allow for a more cohesive plot and supporting cast and might be better for diversifying gameplay. That way you get the chance to include goofballs like Henry, Gregor, and Niles.
Then make three DLC character packs of Classic, GBA, and Tellius with maybe a dozen characters each. That might give them the opportunity to make some of the blander lords and other characters more unique in their attack patterns.
-
Ashnard would come with Rajaion so there, there's your laguz (because fuck Kurthnaga and his father.)

I think Manaketes would just fill the role of dragon laguz just fine (because the dragon laguz suck)
I want Canas, Lucius, and Nino
give me Blazing Sword's holy mage trinity -
All of Camus's alternate identities (Camus, Zeak, Sirius, Char Aznable, Quattro Vagina, Full Frontal) as separate characters.

If its a typical musou based on a franchise game, they'll have about 15 playable characters total and they'll try to nab a representative from most of the main outings, but they'll miss a couple in trade for putting in three+ characters from the most recent game, or the most popular. And some of those playables will be baddies instead of heroes. They will manage to populate the background with unplayables though.
(For instance, Dragon Quest Musou pulling in all four of the main characters from 4 because that's among the most popular, 2 characters from 8 because that's well known, and basically one each from the rest… while still missing things like the hero character from a bunch of them DQM2 pulled in a third character (out of 4) from 8 and a few other fill outs. Gundam Musou in the course of four games focused mostly on the original series and the then current SEED... and after 4 games and a roster of 150 has managed 5 characters from Wing but not the 5 main characters.)
If they do Zelda like DLC with big expansions that can vary things quite a bit.

I would hope that with a game like Fire Emblem a series with vast amount of characters to use that they wouldn't half ass the character roster
-
I think it would be super cool if there were flying units that operated similar to how they do in FE, where they operate on the same plane as everyone else but can traverse across barriers with ease. Someone like Elinia or Hinoka would be a little weaker but would have insane capture abilities with their mobility.
Honestly, if the game makes you personally a little less powerful and encourages you to give your captains basic commands it would be an awesome way to emulate some of the series's strategy.
-

It's not about the franchise. Its what Koei always does. The resources needed to develop a musou game in a reasonable amount of time mean that the first time out, its going to have about 15 characters. They'll pick and choose based on a combination of historical significance, overall popularity and whatever is newest. And in a franchise that has alot of outings, that means some stuff is going to get skipped entirely. Just how it is.
They then double that to 30 in the sequel, and then keep on adding about 15 characters per outing… though Zelda worked a bit differently with its steady DLC, likely due to it being a Nintendo product and them not wanting 4 versions of the same title.
Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors eventually built up to huge rosters of almost 100, but that was over the course of many main games and multiple mini-release midquels. Gundam got to a huuuge roster.. but mostly by letting the color swap fodder be playable and terrible.
-
I hope Nintendo and Koei Tecmo/Omega add SRPG elements or gameplay mechanics from Kessen and Bladestorm, not just a full focus hack&slash game. Despite its popular, Arslan Warriors had SRPG elements and gameplay mechanics similar to Kessen and BladeStorm. I know a lot die hard fans wanted a new Fire Emblem console game similar to Fire Emblem Path of Radiance and Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn. Same goes for me, but I'm okay with this because I know it will be more than just mindless button masher and Dynasty Warriors clone.
-
So, despite we being distracted by Fire Emblem and the upcoming Dynasty Warriors, they just showed more Musou Star characters like a week ago.

-
I don't know any of these people, except for Lu Bu and Ryu?
-
What in the world is Marie Rose doing in a Musou game? Did Helena tell her she's on vacation and she popped up here?
Actually, I like that theory, so I'll just roll with it.
-
So… Tomorrow, Dynasty Warriors 9 information is CONFIRMED to start coming out (it was announced with a brief teaser + reveal of Zhou Cang being playable in it + open world formula and overhauled combat system a couple months ago; nothing sense then). If not tomorrow, Thursday at the latest.
I will post it in here when it is. If someone sees it/gets it before, feel free to post it.
-
Some new information (still updating)
-
More ways to capture castles. Can raid castles from high places (eg mountains). Stealth infiltration also possible.
-
Long-Range Arrow FPS mode from ≦DW5 confirmed returning & usable for all characters.
-
Time & Weather will change real-time. Enemies will be harder to detect you on nighttime & rain.
-
Map has Main Missions that will progress history but difficult, so beat related missions to reduce diff.
-
State Combo system: Moveset will change phantasmagorically based on surrounding enemy situations. State Combo starts with Trigger attack, then Follow attacks which active change, & ends with Finish attack.
-
Interactive Action: Action that changes based on terrain & objects. Can attack with field objects.
-
Grappling hook can be used to not only climb castle walls but also high mountains.
-
Swimming confirmed returning from DW6!
You can also use oil cans to trigger fire attacks. -
Battles are not split by stages. Battles in the same era (date) will take place in different places.
-
If you go to Nanman during Yellow Turban Rebellion, Nanman ppl will be talking about Zhang Jiao.
-
Story is character-based (back to pre-DW7). But there will be no What-If branches that alter history.
-
The era is corresponding to character chosen. eg. Zhao Yun starts around 184, Wang Yuanji starts after 234.
-
Boats are also added as transportation because it takes 5 minutes if you cross Changjiang or Yellow river by swimming
-
On land you mainly move by riding horse, but they're also planning to add Fast Travel system.
-
Character models are being renewed for #PS4.
Switching character mid-game is still under consideration. -
You can also do things like hunting wild animals with archery, or battling foreign tribes.
-
Cheng Pu's weapon is 双矛 Double Pike
(No words on Zhang Fei's weapon yet) -
Seems the era will change after clearing main mission, eg. Beating Zhang Jiao will move time to Dong Zhuo era.
-
The basic major flow of history in each character story is basically the same (closer to DW2-5 story modes)
-
Character switch mid-game still not confirmed yet because if they live in different eras then retelling is required.
-
There will be over 10 unique cities + generic towns & villages.
1 area's size is about 1 kilometer(square?) each. -
Luoyang seems to be confirmed into the 10+ unique city list, so expect cities like Chengdu, Chang'an & Jianye there.
-
-
I'm fine with the story being character driven so long as they don't pull a reptile and kill your character(s) off at the end of their story and everyone from a specific group levels up equally or you're able to use points or whatever to level up people.
-
holy shit did they actually add Cheng Pu
it's been 3000 years….

Man I am loving everything I'm hearing so far

It's been months since the announced it and it all sounds neat but I still dunno. "Open world" is just not something I ever wanted out of a Musou game. As is, I'm kind of tired of open world in RPGs.
Are you going to run around killing bandits on the giant empty map while waiting to go to the story battles? Just… how is that even going ot work, the two just don't seem compatible.
-
most musou stages are just nondescript fields, mountains, and cities anyways
now they're just interconnected and you can walk in between 'em -

It sort of sounds what they had in Spirit of Sanada, with the castle towns and the like, now fully expanded.
-
Cheng Pu looks pretty badass
-
I'm guessing Zhang Fei will get his DW5-era spear back now.
-
Confirmed that Dynasty Warriors 9 runs in/at 4k/30FPS OR 1080p/60FPS on PlayStation 4 Pro.
-
So, a bit of a update on characters and weapons and stuff.
For new characters, Wei has two additions of Man Chong and Xun You (Different person then Xun Yu). Man Chong's weapon is sort of odd, it's like a spear-throwing thing and Xun You has a whip sword.
For new weapons, Zhang Fei has a serpent spear, Xiahou Yuan has two iron rods, the Qiao sisters have dual fans, Gan Ning has the chain and sickle, Ling Ton has the nunchaku, Sun Quan has the flame-edged sword, Lu Xun might have new dual swords, Dong Zhuo has a flail and Lu Lingqi has a jian and shield.
-
@S.C.:
Xiahou Yuan has two iron rods,
…..why? I mean I know they'll let us give him the bow anyway but, rods?
-
…..why? I mean I know they'll let us give him the bow anyway but, rods?
There's a couple reasons. First, they've brought back the bow mode from the earlier games, but have made it more dynamic, so more then likely, the projectile weapon movesets are now it's own seperate thing.
Also, Yuan used a iron rod in DW4 & 5. But using two of them is more Taishi Ci's schitck.
-
An update: Sima Shi, Zhang He, Zhou Yu and Ma Dai got leaked. Yu retains his staff, Dai now has Zhang Liao's dual halberds, Shi has gone back to the DW7 Rapier and He has Wang Yuanji's throwing daggers.
-
Dynasty Warriors 8 Empires, Samurai Warriors: Spirit of Sanada, and Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate are coming to the Switch
-
New update:
**Sun Ce now shares that weird saw-sword….thing with Zhou Cang.
**Ma Chao still has a spear.
**Jia Chong now has some sort of small mace things with spear tips. -
@S.C.:

They're called spear shooters (or shooting spears idk). Man Chong wields them as well

Just a minor update, but apparently when characters are in a scene out of a battle, they'll be dressed more normally then always wearing armor and stuff 24/7.
-
I still just dont get how an open world is going to mesh at all with the giant army battle combat and grinding the series is known for. Those are like, opposite things. Especially if you have to spend a ton of time between those intensive matches just walking around.
Especially when you have boatloads of characters to level up.
-
Another new character for Wei: Cao Xiu, who wields this weird…..iron fan-sword thing.
-
Another new character was revealed: Xin Xianying for Jin. She wields…..I dunno, sort of a long axe or halberd? It looks like a new weapon: Also, existing characters have been updated. Almost everyone has been shown now:

Is there a list of the official weapon names?
Not as far as I know. I'm just going off the characters used in the scans.
