General Musou Warriors Thread

I was thinking about whether I should get hyrule warriors next month, but I think just like with pirate warriors I am gonna skip the first game or buy it later when it is cheaper. I just bought pirate warriors 2 in the anime sale on psn for 7.50$ and it is so much better then the first game. More characters, better moves, more content and so on. Same is probably going to happen with hyrule warriors, provided it will sell well enough.

Also one thing that bothers me is that during the cutscenes in HW there is no voice acting. I know it's the typical nintendo way, but come on. Without voice acting the cutscenes loose something and feel a little cheaper than they would with. And this being a spinoff zelda title was actually a perfect opportunity for them to test out voice acting for those characters and see how the fans would react. If it worked great, we finally would have zelda, link an co. speak, if not they would just go back to the way it was.

Eh, Bowser was the only one kinda meh in my opinion. And stupid question, but these cutscenes were all in English in the Japanese version too?

Yep Mario even has a few lines of dialog in the japanese version which he doesn't have in the American & European versions of the game.

I don't see mounts being implemented, I don't like them in Dynasty Warriors, feel more like they limit your moveset. But there's Epona, The Kangoroo, Flying bear, Dodongo, big red bird, the Groosinator, Ordon's Goats, Moblin's Boars… There's variety, but I feel that they take away from the combat.

My new headcanon is that faries evolve to great faries, and that the final weapon of link, is actualy navi.

While a Fire Emblem Musou could be great, I'd rather have a Kid Icarus Musou if they decide to make a Musou with another Nintendo franchise.
The main reason is that I doubt we will have another KI:U sequel anytime soon. So any new KI game while waiting for the sequel would be a great news.
And the good thing about KI is that it doesn't have many characters so it could get a "perfect" roster on the first try. The fact that the characters from KI have more potential for crazy movesets is also big plus.

Dang I never though about it but yeah Fire Emblem Musou would be awesome and it pretty much fits the musou world pretty well, damn gief Nintendo and Koei.

Am I the only one wishing for a mature berserk musou game with limbs flying everywhere. Guts and other characters from the manga slicing their way through soldiers and demons, a perfect fit. Combine that with the fantastic music from the anime and it could be a really awesome game.

You want more gore? thats not Koei point when making the games so dont expect that from them, maybe a diferent company.

Even though there is precedent for Tecmo-Koei making "violent" Musou games so it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility.

it is wrong to say I'd play a Naruto Musou? I mean, if anything, it's been proven that the series makes for great games. And with this whole Great Ninja War thing, and the inflation of everyone's powers, I think it would be a natural fit.

Well, inflation of Naruto and Sasuke and I guess Kakashi's powers along with two of the villains, I guess. But hey just slap the ultimate ninja storm movesets into a musou environment and you basically got the jist of it

Id rather see a berserk musou or toriko musou (although that could easily work as a monster hunter game too), but id be lying if i said i wouldnt play a naruto version.

actually yeah. I don't have a PSP, so I never really heard about that game. But it looks pretty fun honestly.

toriko monhun doesn't seem to me like it would work as well as one would think. MH is about being strategic with your attacks, moving in and out of attack range, dodging, and chipping away at a giant health bar, when one swipe takes a chunk out of your own health and you have to heal. Toriko is about zipping around like crazy while spamming all sorts of attacks, and most of the time wiping out whatever you're fighting easy as pie. it also has no sense of armor or forging or anything. it would lend itself much better to an Unlimited Adventure sort of game. (which I guess you can argue has similarities to monhun but whatever)

So I know Dragon Quest is a huge franchise and such (though I suspected Final Fantasy rather than DQ to get the Warrior treatment), but is there enough variety in it to warrant a Musou game? I know they can just make up a bunch of new characters and such but…I dunno, DQ just seems like a weird choice unless they make a whole bunch of monsters playable.

There are 10 DQ Games in the main line, even though X is an mmo, but still. I am sure they can easily fill the character roster. And since it's pretty common for spinoffs to have a small amount of them in the first game anyway, there probably will be as many characters as in in hyrule warriors or kaizoku musou 1, not many basically.^^

1)10 games in the main franchise alone, (let alone spinoffs) there's a couple dozen main party memebers to choose from. Really, logn as I could get the leads from 5 and 8, I'd be happy.
2) As you noted, monsters! I'd love to play as a saber cat, or a four armed robot… and you just know they'd have slimes, and metal slimes, and king metal slimes... they already showed a heal slime in the main party.

Interesting that its going to be a Playstation exlusive though. Especially since DQ has jumped consoles a fair bit, but has mostly classically been Nintendo based. To balance out the Nintendo Zelda exclusive?

Though I wodner if it'll ever make it stateside? They seem to have decided that the DQ franchise just isn't viable in the states, despite the more recent games selling fairly well. We still haven't even heard an announcement on the 3ds version of DQ7.

But man, Musou brand is just randomly branching out like crazy now. I guess they must have been getting really positive response from the Zelda tie in.

Though I only played two so far.^^ I still wish they would have given us a full jrpg just like DQ8 on the PS4, or even on ps3, though. That cell shading look combined with toriyamas designs and a big world to later freely explore was great and would have been amazing in a new hd game.

Most Musou games seem to make it over, so probably. This would also be a lot easier to localize than DQ7.

^ Most Musou games make it over but America kind of has a funny relationship when it comes to getting DragonQuest related games particuarly spin-offs.

There's more DQ games and content for this type of game than any of the franchises they used previously. Unlike DQ, Final Fantasy does not have iconic monsters as they change them with every game. Dragon Quest uses the same and variants of the same as the art style does not change from game to game.

If you have ever played DQIX you would see how many characters the series has (which is a lot). They wouldn't even need to have playable monsters (also the are using original characters here).

Take these characters and multiply each by at LEAST 5 and you'll see where the potential is:

Bought it a couple of months ago and am super excited to play it, unfortunately my 120 gig ps3 gets full so fast that right now I don't have enough space for the over 20 or 30 gig ninokuni has. Will download it as soon as I've beat some of the free ps plus games I already have installed, like vanquish for example.^^

Also, as its a musou game, I can actually imagine them pulling the usual slime trick where they get shit for stats the entire game, and then suddenly start rocketing near max level.

Musou games just don't work that way. No way in hell they do an entire cast from any game in their first outing, not even 8. We'll be lucky in fact to get one rep from each game… extremely lucky to get upwards of two reps from each.

(For instance, in Gundam, while they had Heero and Zechs in the first game, they didn't add Duo and Trowa until the third... and STILL haven't added Quatra or Wefei by the fourth... even though its really easy to point to that version of the franchise only having five lead characters.... and they even added the side character Treis before the leads, and gave Heero a SECOND mech. And have ignored several franchises entirely while pouring heavy love onto others. They have weird priorities.)

They'll go with whoever is historically the most popular. And whoever fills a quota of being female.

The one advantage 8 has going for it is its characters are already the most realized in full graphical form, design, and voice, and its the best known game stateside. Yangus is likely a shoo-in, since he actually got a spinoff game and is a fairly distinct design, and Hero was the face of that game. But Jessica and Angelo will be harder pressed to get in as playables.

In terms of visuals/design and character (background, and so on), yeah there is definitely no problem there in terms of the variety. However, I am mostly concerned about the overall gameplay aspect between each of the characters considering how almost every single hero runs around with a sword. Then again, this is a Musou game and they can pretty much take the liberty on how each character can play differently in spite of having similar weapons (and they did make up a lot of stuff for the Three Kingdoms characters throughout the history of the Dynasty Warriors franchise so..yeah I suppose I can see that happening here).

And for the sake of diverse gameplay, I really hope they include playable monsters (or at least Terry/any other Dragon Quest Monsters character).

…and the thought suddenly occurred to me how awesome it would be to have playable villains from the past games.

Oh they definitely should put some villains in there. Although since the game is called DQ heroes it also maybe won't happen.^^
