Interesting to note that he's another voice actor who has done voice work in both the 4kids and Funimation dubs of One Piece (like Sean Schemmel).

Hoping for solicitations sometime today?
-
well this is the day they were announced last month, so hopefully they do it tommorow with good news

If anyone here buys the manga, volume 75 is now just over five dollars on Amazon.
-
thanks for the info. got that pre-ordered right away.

Glad FUNi caught on to Drake being "Diez" Drake.

Most of the fanbase hasn't even caught on to it yet, and still believe it's the letter X.

I don't see how they wouldn't. I could see fans not catching on to that, but how could the ones taking the time to dub the show completely miss a detail like that.

I had no idea until the recent chapter when
! Drake's father was introduced, and people realized they had the same last name.

The manga specifically romanized his name as "X" Drake. https://www.opbforums.com/manga/One-Piece/595/4

Better spoiler tag that.

“X” being the Roman numeral for ten, which is Diez in Spanish. You can even see it written as ディエス (Diesu) above the “X”:
But many translations don't seem to acknowledge this, so its no surprise some people aren't aware of his actual name. -

I'm aware of all of this. It's just that thinking that his name is "X" Drake wouldn't be wrong per se since Oda was the one who wrote it that way. As you said, it's perfectly understandable that people are unfamiliar with the term "Diez" since it wasn't translated into English until Law's flashback .

After watching the recent set I have to say that despite my original gripes Pappagu's dub voice grew on me over time. It's sort of that case where when you first hear it it sounds really bad but when you hear it in context it actually fits pretty well.
And even though Macro's voice was a bit weaker if you listen to the commentary and watch the extras you have to applaud Hunter Scott who admitted he was new to the industry but really put a lot of work in. You've got to respect the guy and we may see improvement by the time Macro gets a small role in that flashback in Fishman Island.

Funimation releases for October is out now. And there is no One Piece.

Funimation releases for October is out now. And there is no One Piece.
Where did you find this info? I've seen a couple October releases announced, but it doesn't seem like their shop page has been updated with October releases.
But if the announcements I've seen so far are all that is coming out in October than…October is a pretty poor month for Funimation releases.
-
It's up on rightstuf's tumblr.
-
Two titles that come out on the same day in early October. Doesn't look complete. This may be the repercussions of the universal deal. Oh joy. Hoping they update it with one piece soon. Will be pissed if I have to wait until September.
It's always something with them… Ugh.
-
-
So it looks to me that Funimation is doing Fairy Tail one month, with One Piece the next, which works for me since i love both shows, guess i will have to wait all the way until November to see the Amazon Lily arc

Yup all the sets from Voyage 4 and onward are going to be epic, do you think they will ever dub that one piece x toriko x dbz special.
-
I'm glad Voyage 3 is coming in October. I want Funimation to chun through this season quickly.
I finally got S7V1 a few days ago after being impatient and watching some of the episode of the Funi App. I love all the Supernovas voices so far. Apoo, Hawkins, and Capone are my favorite from just a few lines.
If I didn't know already, I wouldn't have been able to tell that Kid was voiced by Justin Cook. Very happy to see that it's not similar to Bellamy's voice. -
Okay, I finally finished all of the episodes of S7V1. Random notes:
-The English logo was slightly animated to mirror the dark zoom out effect like the Japanese opening, but the letters don't explode across the screen afterwards.
-I love all of the new voices on this set.
-They included Hatchi's speech quirk of "nuuuu" this time around, as well as Caime adding "-chin" to everyone's name, but didn't use Law's "-ya", nor did they replace it with anything yet.
-Arlong gets a line or two of new dialogue via flashback, but they still haven't used his original laugh in the dub.
-Clyde Mandelin is back in the credits for Japanese Translations, as well as that Jackie McClure from Thriller Bark.

Though Funimation has been keeping laughs and quirks since season 4 (and earlier with the giants I suppose), they also want to be consistent with older episodes. The scenes with Arlong were from Arlong Park so they likely either used the old recordings or redid it exactly the same to fit the new animation.
With old characters appearing in Impel Down and Marineford I do wonder if they'll make some effort to include the laughs or not. Buggy pretty much got his laugh but who knows about Crocodile.
About law's -ya, that's just something that's really weird to translate honestly. I mean Camie's chin works on the ear to me but Law saying "Straw Hat-ya" would be really awkward. Even some fan translations haven't kept it. Not sure if they'll give him some quirk later on or not but I'm fine if they don't.
Also, I had no doubt Marineford would be done, just like with Enies Lobby. We'll see if the dub continues into the time skip but at this point I have no doubts or worries seeing as we already got Film Z.

Based on the explanations I’ve seen of the meaning of Law’s “–ya” it seems like one of those things that generally wouldn’t be translated into English; it seems more similar to stuff like “-san” or “-chan” in that regard. Hachi’s “nyu” is more of a random grunting/sighing sound and as for Camie’s "–chin"…I guess I’m not entirely sure why the kept that (maybe because chin is an actual English word?). They could find an English equivalent I suppose, but like other suffixes I don’t necessarily expect them to (I know they sometimes do, but not always).
-Arlong gets a line or two of new dialogue via flashback, but they still haven't used his original laugh in the dub.
Were they new lines of dialogue or old ones placed on the new footage? If the former, that could be why.
-Clyde Mandelin is back in the credits for Japanese Translations, as well as that Jackie McClure from Thriller Bark.
Didn’t he work on the original simulcast subs? The subs on the DVDs seem to be based on these initial simulcast subs, just with certain lines altered (and maybe terminology, but I didn’t notice much). That might be why he is listed.
Hmmmm…..curiouser and curiouser.
"We're excited for Impel Down and Marineford like y'all. But we do want to let you know that it's coming!"
Hm….
-
It shouldn't come as a surprise. There's been ample evidence that Funimation isn't stopping one piece dubs. I thinks it's safe to conclude that announcements or no announcements that new seasons are coming every summer.
-
Well…Buggy and Blackbeard have gained their laughs as time went on. And a few pieces of dialogue here and there were improved or touched up during flashbacks. Wouldn't be the first time.
! It will be very interesting to see how they handle Iva's voice.
-
Looks like Universal distribution means the price went up?
-
not really. it's still the same retail price as the others sets, it's just that right stuff hasn't lowered the price to what they normally do.
-
Unless rightstuf also changed their pricing procedure, they price it relative to what it's sold to them for. So either rightstuf or universal is hiking a price here. Not sure which, I guess. I would expect it to be universal because it, previous to them distributing, was abnormally low for a retail price of $40 (nearly half).

They handled Bon Clay's perfectly. I have faith! Gotta be better than the debacle that occurred over the Japanese voice for Iva.

Here is the old thread where the debacle with Iva's original voice actor was discussed.
I'm not gonna really discuss that incident, but honestly I never really liked Iva's second voice. As far as I'm concerned he sounds too strained and, in genral, it ends up sounding like a poorly done imitation of the original voice. So hopefully his english voice is better.
-
Hey, a funny thought just came into my mind if 4kids continued on dubbing the One Piece anime they would have come into a stumbling block with what to do with Iva.

Which makes me even more glad that 4kids is not around anymore.

They would have come to a stumbling block long before Marineford….
But I think with the fact that Funimation has come full circle is that 4kids is something that should be relegated to the annals of anime history.

The man was only showing off his tattoos. Where's the harm in that? It's not like he was a SUPA pervert or anything. Convert!

If we're talking voice wise, than no. They casted for Bon clay just fine. Content wise, it's unavoidable. Lol

In a perfect world, Tim Curry would be able to voice Iva, and Funimation would have been able to get him, but, alas, we are not in a perfect world. Can't wait till they reveal who they got for him.
