Basically if you want your favorite show to make enough money to license MORE episodes go with the initial releases.

Really, what we want is for the merchants buying the sets from Funi or their distributor to feel that stocking the series is a worthwhile investment, so that they won't balk when they have to buy however many thousands of copies minimum. As chart-topping results show, that's clearly the case for the collections; it's the initial voyages that need as many reassuring returns as possible.

I tend to encourage people to buy new for this reason. And buy on release date. Buying a used copy doesn't give Funi any money. FUNi want money, honey.
-
What IS going to encourage people to purchase the DVDs instead of downloading is by giving top reviews on Amazon.
If any of you have bought any One Piece DVDs from Amazon, you need to leave a review. You'd be surprised how much the reviews count for buyer decisions, so do it!
-
The Collections are there for you if you didn't already buy the Voyages. I had to stop getting the Voyages for Season 2 after the Fourth One, and a year later, I just went ahead and bought Collection 5 to finish the Alabasta episodes (I don't care for Goat Island & Rainbow Mist). Really, the only thing that's stopping me from getting any Season 4 DVDs right now is not living in the United States, and having no current means to import the DVDs. Trust me, I don't want to wait for the Collections, One Piece, especially the Water 7 & Enies Lobby episodes, deserves their full value from me.
-
One Piece Season 4, Part 5 is 61 on Amazon's top 100 for anime and manga. Also on Amazon right now. One Piece Season 4, part 1 is 26.99 and Season 4, part 2 is 25.23. So if you haven't picked them up yet. Get them now.
-
Huh. I thought the status would update today. My bet is that we get the DVD on Friday or so. Otherwise, it'll turn into another voyage three deal.

Hold the phones, my status has changed to "Reserved for your order" now on Voyage 4. Check it now, does it still say "On Order from Manufacturer"?
-
It says "Reserved For Your Order" for me, too.
-
YES. Finally. Meaning it'll ship monday! Delivery Wednesday! What a reward to end my midterms with!
-
My status changed to "Reserved For Your Order" as well~
-
Welp, time to go into hibernation until Wednesday.

Surprised no one's mentioning how we'll be hearing Spandam (in the anime) and Tom in this set.
With all the Water 7 recasts we've seen in Voyage Three along I'm fully expecting someone else to do Spandam. The again Kent still got to play a second villian character as Kuro so who knows. Course that could simply be an exception since it was an early Season 1 character far apart from Shura in Season 3.

I had thought about Spandam, but I don't really care at all about Tom. I'm looking forward to hearing more of Lucci's voice. And the darker versions of some of the characters. And Franky's good guy voice, if it's any different. Spandam is the spotlight voice for this set, though.
As for rightstuf, I don't mean to get anyone's hopes up, but isn't it possible that they've already shipped it out? I know rightstuf likes to be behind on the updates with that. We'd know tomorrow morning/afternoon for sure. I doubt it has, but you never know.
I tend to think of Mike having a two (maybe even three) season rule, where you can't play a major voice unless you haven't played one in the past two or three seasons.

If they shipped out today, then they should have charged credit/debit cards this morning. I don't have access to my statement ATM so could someone else check?

I believe it is highly unlikely they would have shipped it out today. I have just checked my statement and I have not been charged for it. Probably Monday it will ship out.
-
Nope. No charge. No email today. Definitely wont ship till Monday. What are you guys most looking forward to on this set? CP9 reveal for me.
-
The Seatrain stuff, which does starts on this on the last episode. Watching the episodes on hulu a months ago, made me can't wait for the dvd set. Even through I won't be getting the set untl the day it comes out (i order on amazon).
-
Seatrain stuff is fun, but I doubt the last episode or two will have much of it. That's probably gonna be my least favorite part of this set. The middle being Franky's past.
EDIT: I was more excited for the last set, I think.
-
Cannot WAIT For this, like srsly guys. _

Im starting to get worried. We are nearing the arc where the elitists-OOPS, I mean "fans" say the anime becomes unbeareable. We need a TV Deal and we need one now more than ever. I'd sell my soul for it to air on Vortexx, where they could add at least 750.000 new fans.

Patronizing a good portion of the fanbase. Good Job.
For your Information, Up through to the end of Enies Lobby, there are episodes adapted with a 1:1 Chapter to Episode Ratio, but it hadn't become the Norm yet. 2:1 still happened with some frequency. They even went 1.5:2 sometimes, like the Episode 309. It wasn't until Thriller bark that 1:1 became the norm.
This is a fact. You can not dispute this. The pacing is much slower now than when the series started.
Whereas in the beginning we were getting 3:1 Chapter to Episode Ratio. Around later Alabasta they started doing 2:1. Around Skypiea, 1:1's started happening but were rare, and started getting more and more common as episodes went on until Thriller Bark where it became the rigid norm. Every episode adapts 1 chapters worth of the Manga without fail starting at that point.Just because people prefer their anime be better paced and not drag, does not make people "Elitists"

Nothing I didn't already know, but I like this post never-the-less. It could've been a bit nicer, though. The kid wasn't entirely wrong, after all.
And on the same subject, I wouldn't say it becomes unbearable, but it certainly isn't as good (due almost entirely to the pacing).
-
Thankfully, we have 12-13 episode sets to help with the dragging.

I know. But Im only including the people who said the anime is (Objectively) unwatchable shit. I dont include those who nice and just hope for it to get better and are just displeased with the pace its taken. You can find loads of those people in AP. You are right Rin-chan. Maybe I was being elitist myself.

Toei is making a ton of money off One Piece and they have been for a long time. Their effort seems to go into the movies now and the show seems to be treated with a "quantity over quality" type of thing. I love One Piece, and I have for almost a decade, but the show I fell in love with a long time ago is no more. I'm not biased; I respect the episodes that had more care put into them, but not the ones that have been airing within the last 5 or so years. The current episodes pale in comparison to the earlier ones in almost every regard: the art, the pacing, the fanservice… et cetera. It may seem like I'm bitching now, but it's going to be really irritating once I start fleshing out my hard-earned money on this kind of shit I don't enjoy. I don't have to buy the sets, but I want to support One Piece in the US. Hopefully the dub will make it a bit more enjoyable (ala Movie 8).
-
I see. Most people just go and say the anime has ALWAYS been unwatchable. I dont like the latest episodes either. I'll always love the early anime.
-
I never really understood the whole hate the anime had been getting as of late. I mean the whole chapter to manga pacing has been going on for so long now you would think people would be used to it by now or just converted to manga only. Believe it or not I've still found enjoyment in each of the new episodes that come each week (yes even the flop of the conclusion FI arc turned to be) .
@MJC yeah it definitely does help, but honestly the pacing was passable in enies lobby, not great, but good enough. Its only till we get to Impel down arc and beyond,is when 12-13 episode box sets won't be enough. (IMHO it would take 16-18 episode box sets to make that work. But were never going to get that. Ever. Hell even episode counts past 11 and 12 are beginning to become a rarity. ) edit: with this series anyway.
Anyways I would really like it if the discussion of pacing would stay out of this thread,we already have one set up for that. It just becomes excessive when it dips into other threads.

This.
Let's keep the topic on Season 4 and the soon-to-come Season 5.
Plus, Strong World. Funi should be in the process of dubbing it now.

I have absolutely never heard anybody say that.

Indeed. Hearing who will play brook will be the highlight of the movie for me to be honest.

I think the reason fans are up in arms about it all over again is because they really like the Punk Hazard arc, and they wanted to see it dubbed well. Not many really cared as much for the fishmen island arc, so it was more permissible to fuck that anime arc up.
I think FUNi will go back to 13 episodes eventually, they just need the right season episode count. Did we ever have a set with fourteen episodes? I feel like we have, but can't remember.
The episodes on voyage four, to me, are better than the ones on voyage five. So this is quite exciting. I don't really care for the box art, though.
So about season five, I think they'll skip a month and have it come out 3 months after fifth voyage.
-
Crap!!!! Why didn't I preorder yet! Hopefully I can get lucky with a Monday or Tuesday shipment.
-

Season One Fourth Voyage had 14 episodes.

Let it go
This is a topic discussing the Funimation dubbing of the anime. We're discussing the past, current, and future state of the dubbed anime and the quality (or lack thereof) of the series that is to come. It's not off topic. Stop acting like it is and telling people to "Let it go" just because it's something you may not want to discuss.
-
Season 1, Part 4 and Season 2, Part 6 were 14 episodes sets.

Just to aid your point a little bit, as long as we're talking about it in terms of the anime's dub, we should be fine posting here. We just can't let it turn into a huge argument about the subs pacing, as is popular within the One Piece fandom. I actually made a thread about it, I think in the Anime section, if people just want to share their opinions and rant about how bad it has gotten, or defend that it isn't the worst thing in the world.
One thing is certain: It can't be argued that the anime's quality in pacing has gone downhill. 'How much' is up for discussion, but anyone who disagrees with the first sentence is probably an idiot, or a kid.

No. It shouldn't ever be permissible to do that. We're putting our money into this. Sure, Fishman Island wasn't that good in the manga, but Toei knew this (from how readers reacted) and could have made it better. It's not unheard of for the anime adaption to be better than the original manga. No matter how good or bad One Piece is quality-wise, Toei will continue to receive large sums of money. It's bad by a show's merits but Toei pretty much gets away with it. It's good for them because they can make a huge profit off the monster that One Piece is, but bad for us customers that want to invest in buying the whole series. We should complain if there's something wrong with it.

Now, now. Don't get your panties in a bunch, yohoho. I said it was 'more permissible' than fucking up the Punk Hazard arc.
I've argued your point before. It makes very little sense for them to invest so little money in the episodes when it's a cash-cow. They're just taking advantage of the fans because they know the fans will continue to come back for more regardless. They could hire a good director, who could make the pacing better while only knocking the pacing up to a 1.5 chapter per episode ratio. The current director(s) aren't any good at pacing. I could certainly be more impressed by the animation, as well, but that's MORE permissible, because it takes a long time to animate when you're pushing out an episode per week.
-
@Mikey:

Are you talking about Japanese readers or readers on internet forums?
How exactly could you be sure whether or not Toei knew this? I'm a little confused by what you mean. -

Didn't mean for my little comment to come off as such. I will choose my words more appropriately next time.

I understand your frustration but there is very little that can be done at this point. Plus I highly doubt that foreign intervention is gonna change anything anyways. Toei knows that they can put minimal effort into the show and still make a profit, that's just how they roll. And if fans don't buy future sets because they are unsatisfied with the pacing, then well, they will just take their business elsewhere: its just how they roll.
-

Japanese readers. They didn't like it. Apparently they made their voices known online and it would be really bizarre if Toei hadn't caught wind of it somehow. For example, check out the reviews this volume got: http://www.amazon.co.jp/ONE-PIECE-62-%E3%82%B8%E3%83%A3%E3%83%B3%E3%83%97%E3%82%B3%E3%83%9F%E3%83%83%E3%82%AF%E3%82%B9-%E6%A0%84%E4%B8%80%E9%83%8E/dp/4088702174 The other Fishman Island volumes are like this too.

i didn't really read too far as much of it that was translated from g translate was a gibberish mess (to be expected) the only thing i got from one of the reviews was about nami's new design (calling it slu$%y or whatnot)(( or at least what i interpreted it as such,it was too vague))
assuming you are familiar with the language, care to drop a line??
-
@Badass:
I have absolutely never heard anybody say that.
Of course you dont hear that HERE in the Funimation Board. But in the Manga sections people say that like it aint no thing.

I don't know Japanese, but I used Google Translate for a lot of the comments and besides the Nami comment being one of the complaints, most of them are saying that Fishman Island is boring, the new characters aren't interesting, and the series lost its charm.
-
I would complain too if I knew it will actually amount to something. But complaining just to complain because you 'can' and have the right to…. is fucking stupid. XD
Sometimes.... you just got get over something, man. The One Piece anime will never gain back it's pacing. This is how it's gonna be. You're free to complain... but you're gonna be complaining forever because they won't hear you. And that's pretty useless. But, whatever floats your boat, buddy. I'm pretty sure this is the reason why some people make fun of fans like this. And really... I don't blame 'em. XD
This shouldn't be a life-decision. It's simple. This is pretty much a situation where you decide which is more important to you: One Piece or where your money goes. Might as well start deciding. ;-)
And about fans complaning... well... time skips tend to make a series go downhill. Some more faster than others...
-

That's not the anime's fault. Its in the manga.

What about the reviews for the anime dvds on amazon. Are those negative too?

Holy crap. The Punk Hazard reviews aren't much better!
And that throws their credibility out the window.
-

I don't just frequent this board, you know… I've only heard people say that the anime isn't good ANYMORE. Which is a fact! Not that it was never good to begin with.
