How do you feel about One Piece having a Tournament Arc?

Considering the subtle "hint" from Doflamingo in which he states the existence of a Coliseum, a tournament Arc could be on the rise in the series' near (or far) future. I've been hearing both positives and negatives for why such an Arc would or would not be a great idea. So… I decided to make a poll and start this thread so I can see the general consensus' opinion.

So vote up top, and post and explain your vote down below.

I think that, compared to other series, it sorta is completely out of place with the entiere setting so I think that'd be extremely awkward.

I think the Foxy Arc is enough! It allowed Oda to do a tournament Arc (usually an Arc that's associated with cliff hangers, character developments going 180, and great script lines) his way. A very unique and light hearted way. I want the Foxy Arc to be the only Tournament !

Foxy Arc was terrible and it wasn't really even a tournament. But it would be cool to see a Tournament in this arc but I don't see any of the Strawhats losing in the tournament since they've been training for 2 years so it's most likely not gonna happen unless Luffy only goes himself. But oda hinting at the colosseum might mean it will happen. The prize could even be the mera mera fruit.

The only way I could see it work is if Luffy ventures there by"coincidence" and finds out about the mera mera fruit(If he wants it)

Why would I care about a tournament arc when we know that Luffy/Zoro/Sanji/Law (delete as applicable) will win it anyways.

I am kinda hoping that the use of Doflamingo will however give us some painful Strawhat vs Strawhat moments via his DF.

I can't imagine Luffy abiding by tournament rules just to reach the final to claim a prize. He's a pirate so the most logical thing for him to do would be to just take the prize.

I don´t think we will see a tournament, i doubt Oda will do one in a "serious" arc like this. Davy Back Fight was what, like 14 chapters long? Furthermore, it was more of a "joke" arc that was supposed to relief after the both rather heavy Baroque Works and especially Skypeia and of course before the dramatic Water 7. A tournament arc in Dressrosa would be totally misplaced.

I really like the idea of a Tournament Arc, I find them very exciting and think it would be a great way to offer the Mera Mera no mi and potentally rescue the samuri Kenjuro. It would also be a good way to show case the some of the weaker strawhats abilities

About the tournament it might be interesting but not if it's to fights only DD's subordinates or some no-names.It would be good if there were some famous pirates involved too.

Why would you want 1 though? And I guess if it counts or anything, there was 1 conversation with Rayleigh : where he mentioned that the layout of the many routes in travels a pirate would have to take in order to get to the final island raftel ,was like one giant tournament. Basically whoever gets to the one piece first is the victor.

Edit: adding on to that, the whole big fighting tournament would be out of place in the series anyway. It just doesn't fit the mood for it.

Yes there should be a tournament Arc in Wano. The Samurai would laugh at Zoro because how weak he is compared to them. He would get fodderized by the experienced Samurai then get's a new Sensei trains with him and get's stronger.

Mihawk isn't stronger than the strongest Samurai living in Wano. He would never beat him in a 1vs1 fight. They have nothing to prove and they don't need a mere title to prove how strong they are. Mihawk is scared of going to Wano because he would lose and get embarrassed by old island. Zoro has no experience and reputation he would get killed if any Samurai there are evil or don't like him because he's a foreigner. There's nothing wrong with getting trained by somebody who's more experienced with the katana and can get him stronger.

It's an Island full of swordsman there has to be somebody above the rest. There won't be equals like Mihawk/Shanks, Whitebeard/Garp and Sengoku don't see that happening at all. Kinemon isn't considered elite because he wouldn't be struggling against anybody. The fight was never shown so we won't know what exactly went down.

I don't mind the tournament. But it's too cliche now. If we will have one soon, it's fine. But I'm not really anticipating it.

personally, thinking about it, i dont see a WHOLE ARC being developed around a tournament… But i do see a tournament happening in an arc and 1-3 members taking part in the tournament. More so, zoro, sanji or franky. Luffy is too unpredictable to follow rules so idk if he would. I find this scenario more reasonable in this world than the former.

also, davy back fight is in no way a proper tournament

The idea of a tournament does not jive with Law's plans at all. :( So I guess we won't have one in this arc. Maybe in the future.

Seriously - do you people really want to see the Straw Hats - still fresh from training after two years - defeated in a real, one-on-one, major fight? I rather want to see this as opportunity to see freaking Nami, Usopp, Chopper, Robin, Franky and Brook in a good fight. The novelty of a typical tournament arc doesn't feel proper right now.

Because Kaidou is the strongest creature in the world; he doesn't mess around. (Though I don't agree with everyone on Wano being "ub3r hax0r" swordsmen/swordswomen).

I think Wano is overrated. But not that much.

In terms of skills, Mihawk will easily top them. The only edge that samurais can have are their weird techniques.

I could see where this sort of idea would come from the mention of a coliseum… but what would Dofla hope to gain by making some sort of tournament? It's his home ground and if he wanted a reason to fight the strawhats, he'd simply just tell his crew to fight them.

However he does have two things the crew wants. The samurai and Ace's DF... which could lead Dofla to create some stipulations or bets to wage. Especially if it were to become some kind of hostage situation involving the samurai... or the eating of the DF outright. The crew would be forced into "his pace"

hmmm... the more I think about it, the more it could work.

The closest we had to a tournament was skypiea arc and I didn't really like it. So personally I don't want Oda to bother with another tournament ever again… But I might reconsider the idea if Oda make a chapter or two of Robin revealing ALL of her hidden stuff (figuratively of course) or something as worthy.

Seriously the core of the story are barely moving forward and a tournament arc is not going to help it at all.
