It started out well(the first few pages) but as usual anything good, Hiro can't stick with it for any length of time.
Fairy Tail Discussion III
-
-
Lmao "that one fist is the declaration of war", It's not like the guy tried to kill the half of the guild wasn't war worthy.
-
Makakov: Don't fight him, you're no match for him.
Everyone: We're Fairy Tail.
Makarov: You guys are so OP compared to 3 chapters….. uh..... I mean 1 year ago. -
I just want some B-team action. At least Gajeel won't spout the usual friendship stuff 24/7.
-
Makarov: You guys are so OP compared to 3 chapters….. uh..... I mean 1 year ago.
I guess the first pages were supposed to be emotional. But that's exactly the reason they just weren't.
The whole setting just is a catastrophe. Mashima expects us to treat these villains as if they had some enormous hype, but without actually creating said hype.
Well, it was nice to see lucy fighting a bit, but… that's all. Not feeling any satisfaction by seeing them being able to hold a candle to these giant space fleas from nowhere.
-
Characters op due to friendship.
Villains who might be a threat already starting to fall easily.
Lucy shoves her ass in our faces.
Classic
Dull
Expected
Fairy Tail.
-
Oh no! The villains who were introduced a couple of chapters ago are starting to get their asses kicked! How shocking!
-
Chapter 446: Natsu pursues a career in glazing
-
Lucy shoves her ass in our faces.
How about making the anime in 3D? That would then be the only actual good thing coming out from Fairy Tail.
-
I thought it was a decent chapter, but then something ruined it for me. Mashima just can hold back the cheesy evil gloating before even showing that his villains really can do some serious damage. All the remaining hype went down the drain as soon as Natsu casually fire-punch him in the face.
Let's see if later the sand dude will be confirmed as the "weakest" spriggan to save their dignity as a whole.
-
Let's see if later the sand dude will be confirmed as the "weakest" spriggan to save their dignity as a whole.
They're all on the same level apparently.
-
All on the same level of future dissapointment.
-
The fact that it needs like 6 of them to take down one Spriggan is still a bad sign.
-
Natsu one-hit koed that summoned demon a few chapters ago, so he was so hyped that he should be able to go against a spriggan12 guy.
But FT has the problem it all is so rushed and unlike in Toriko it doesn´t really work.
Iam glad they get to those guys quickly (what else should they do), but when i compare a build-up of an OP villain with those….yeah.
Somehow hyping each and every villain to whatever hights, but FT members being anyways able to defeat them by just fighting as always (not even using clever ways like in HxH to overcome weaknesses) makes it less enjoyable.
But as long as we get ass and boobs presented in a good angle it should be fine ;)
I like some designs of the spriggan12, so that´s at least good, but that sandguy has nothing...NOTHING in comparision to Sir Croc or Gaara.
So him going down soon is more than ok, but i hope 2-3 spriggan12 fights will be really a struggle for them all at least. (Inbel and the girl that shrinked the island are my hopes)
That Zeref stands behind all this again is ...whatever, final confrontation with Acnowlogia comes near, i like to see that. -
The fact that it needs like 6 of them to take down one Spriggan is still a bad sign.
Well, they were protecting the vehicle they're riding on which wasn't very durable, so they had to defend it at all cost. Plus, Makarov discouraged them to do direct confrontation simply because he didn't know about their power growth. When all that failed, what did they need? Just one Natsu.
@Don:

That guy is like kindergarten kid playing in sandbox when compared to them. He's just trying too hard to surpass them both by doing flashier and bigger sand tricks. -
This guy is still in playful mode, though. Let's not jump the gun so soon, nobody is beaten yet. Plus, he might not be the only Spriggan who decided to come and play.

Gaara sure, but Crocodile doesn't have any feats on par with what Azeal has showcased in just one chapter. Look no further than Crocs smaller, less effective quicksand. Azeal just messing around is already showcasing town level attacks, and Brandish said that he's just as powerful as she who is casually island level.

IIRC, Croc created massive sandstorm just from generating a small one in the same chapter he stabbed Luffy before throwing him into that the same less effective quicksand. Also, it's excusable in Croc's case due to minimal presence of groundwater in the area (plot-related) required to form bigger quicksand. What's Azeal's excuse? Large underground lake he forgot to mention in his evil gloating?
Azeal's feats might be bigger and flashier, but in the end, he still needs to accomplish something worth mentioning with those or else it's just for show.

Nature built those Yuba sandstorms up over time to a degree that Crocodile couldn't even stop them anymore, yet several of them couldn't even manage to destroy one single dried up and abandoned town. Azeal is boasting about casually taking out entire towns and their citizens along with them.
-
Azeal's excuse for what?? His quicksand pit is shown to be larger, more effective at binding opposition and doesn't require the assistance of an underground lake in order to function.
-
Erza, Gray, Makarov, Lucy, Mest, Charle & Happy were all totally screwed until Natsu blew the sand pit up and saved them. That's two Fairy Tail Guild Masters who are Wizard Saint level and an Ice Demon Slayer that were all rendered absolutely helpless in an instant. That doesn't count as anything worth mentioning?
and that's just one chapters worth of feats. If the title of next weeks chapter ('Escape Battle') is any indication then it doesn't sound like they are going to fair much better than they did this week. Just because One Piece is a better story doesn't mean Crocodile's feats are superior to Azeal's.

Please don't turn this into a VS thread with your irrelevant fan calcs.
1. Why aren't you telling that to the guy I quoted? I'm not the one who mentioned Crocodile or initially compared them, and no one is making anyone respond to me. That's your and everyone elses choice. Are you saying I'm not allowed to respond other posters?
2. What "fan calcs" are you talking about?
!
!
Are you trying to tell me that the latter didn't explicitly state that he destroys towns and that the former isn't standing on what was previously an island? You might want to take that up with Hiro Mashima then. I don't write the story, I can only state observations.
-

I think about that more in terms of memorability and creativity, so who might be stronger…couldn´t care less.
Of course you could create a sand user who does everything bigger and stronger, but that won´t keep him as a legend.
I doubt Croc was the first sand user in a manga, but the looming atmosphere around him and his creative use of his power will always be remembered.(he was a great villain, maybe one of the best in all OP)
Gaara also brought a new style to the table, like carrying his sand and having it as a protection.
They were both great characters also from their personality, which both fitted their ability...and even when judged a bit early here, i doubt the sand guy will get much more characterization.
I doubt anyone will remember the sand dude from FT years later just because he made a bigger quicksand, lol. -
1. Why aren't you telling that to the guy I quoted? I'm not the one who mentioned Crocodile or initially compared them, and no one is making anyone respond to me.
Because you're the one who's starting the topic of conversation. Don Quichotte didn't elaborate on that statement at all. You don't know what he meant. You specifically selected this one sentence out of many just to debate their feats.
Are you trying to tell me that the latter didn't explicitly state that he destroys towns
How did he destroy those towns? How fast did he accomplish destroying one of them? Did he destroy buildings a few at a time? Did he sink them into sand? We don't know enough about his statement to automatically make assertions about where his strength lies. Azeal claiming that he's destroyed towns in the past is not "showcasing" anything. He didn't state it "explicitly" either.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
that the former isn't standing on what was previously an island?
That island was incredibly small. She also did that with her special ability, something we don't know the specifics of either. We don't even know how it's even applicable in battle. You make it sound more impessive than it really is.

I thought you were alluding to their respective strengths in your initial posts because we don't have much else to go off with Azeal at the moment. I agree though that it's unlikely that a side-antagonist of FT could ever be as cool and suave Mr.0.

I didn't start the conversation, this is a convo thread and I was responding to content that piqued my interested. Who are you to tell me who I can respond to and how I choose to respond to them? If you or anyone else don't like what I have to say, then simply don't engage me and I'll have nothing to respond to and thus nothing to debate. Not a difficult concept to grasp.
-
He clearly states that he "swallows" them after he used his quicksand ability on Team Natsu. Pretty sure Hiro Mashima knows that we are big boys/girls who have enough common sense about us to read between the lines and deduce that he swallowed those towns with his quicksand ability.
-
You must have missed the pages where she made the island many times larger than it initially was before shrinking it down to little more than a pebble. Here, I'll refresh your memory.
!
How impressive the feat was or wasn't to you is irrelevant and entirely subjective. What isn't subjective is the fact that it's an island and that she goes on to say that Azeal is just as powerful as she is, which puts him at island level destructive capacity. Mind you she did this casually. Trying to down play this casual display of power only makes them look more impressive in my eyes since it's clear we've only scratched the tip of the iceberg in regards to how powerful they actually are. -
-
This guy has nothing on Croc because Croc had proper build-up and an actual characterisation.
That is what matters.
I don't give a shit whether what's his name could beat Croc in a fight. If yes, so what?
-
This discussion is almost as bad as this week's chapter.

Sorry for the late reply, but here I go :
@Louis-1988:- Nature built those Yuba sandstorms up over time to a degree that Crocodile couldn't even stop them anymore, yet several of them couldn't even manage to destroy one single dried up and abandoned town. Azeal is boasting about casually taking out entire towns and their citizens along with them.
Not just nature. Croc had in hands in the long drought with Dance Powder. Also, Yuba was already 'destroyed' in the first place. Croc pretty much triggered said sandstorm to agitate Luffy, and it worked wonder. Croc could create sandstorm inside a closed dungeon, so he could pretty much do it anywhere else, which he did. Sure, it's not that destructive. It just blows away stuffs and people that's all.
Azeal's boast proves nothing when we don't even know if it's an entire town of helpless civilians or the one full of magic guilds. Any of the scrub Avatars can do pretty much the same if it's just the former, with less flashy magics maybe. His boasts were there because he didn't get enough time for build-ups and that's about it.
- Azeal's excuse for what?? His quicksand pit is shown to be larger, more effective at binding opposition and doesn't require the assistance of an underground lake in order to function.
For his quicksand to work? Sand isn't that unstable that your whole body will just sink in by standing on it no matter how heavy you are. Once it has received enough pressure from your body weight, it will compact itself and you won't sink any deeper. Something very unstable has to be beneath it for someone to sink completely. That's why I mentioned about ground water and whatnot.
In short, Quicksand can't become one with just sand. It's just sand pit, with only threat is that you can't get out from it due to poor footing, or if some hungry mouth happens to be waiting in the bottom pit.
- Erza, Gray, Makarov, Lucy, Mest, Charle & Happy were all totally screwed until Natsu blew the sand pit up and saved them. That's two Fairy Tail Guild Masters who are Wizard Saint level and an Ice Demon Slayer that were all rendered absolutely helpless in an instant. That doesn't count as anything worth mentioning?
Makarov could just turn into giant and save everyone's asses all the same, except that he didn't. I don't even know why. Was he tied? Because I at least know Erza was; to the power cable that connects to the magic car.

From FT we got 30 pages this time..i hope we won´t reach it with this discussion ;)Maybe if we go into the tits vs. ass debate, like what almost happened in Seven Deadly Sins thread. This is the best possible place for it.
It's ass, seriously why is this even a question?
-
I have to agree here, love my bouncing sweet looking asses. (Natsu getting Lucys ass right on his head…dayum!!)
But in FT the tits are most of the time better drawn^^ -
So I guess it's safe conclude that we're still reading FT just because we've already read 400+ chapters, and it would be a waste to just drop it despite the fact that it has become stupid, inconsistent, and irrelevant.
The power levels are just hilarious, I wouldn't be surprised if it'll go Dragonball power level and starting to blow up planets.
It's the same with Bleach, we still read it because we have to, not cuz we want to.

Unlike Bleach, the story still at least keeps moving and you at least know the gist of the plot. Plus you know, the heroes actually have a chance against the villains. Yeah they still bullshit on a few of them but at least where not reading 100+ chapters of a villain just being all powerful with no way to stop him.

You also forgot the part where the "final" villain and his over-powered army are one giant asspull that appeared from literally nowhere with absolutely no foreshadowing or build-up, yet they all have an absurdly long and convoluted history that's been retcon-shoehorned into the story.
It's almost like Kubo is sick of his own story and is actively trying to kill it's fanbase so he can stop making it.
-
I came here to read comments on the new chapter and all I read we're comparisons to other manga. :I
Imo the chapter was yet another lack luster unfulfilling one with lame as hell bad guys that are copy pastes of characters already in the same manga.
-
Booo. I started like Mr. Sandman. I should have known better. Friggin Natsu ruins this series for me 9 times out of 10. Also that car was silly…

Speak for yourself. I like both series.
"We only read it because it'd be a waste to drop it." Uhm… wat? :wassat:
"We read it because we have to, not because we want to." Is there a loaded gun to your head or something?

I mean exactly the way I said it. It's just like watching a movie with a good start, then becomes sour halfway but you have finish it cuz you already started it. You get the point.
Most people would probably drop it if they're not enjoying the series anymore, but I'm different, I don't like loose ends that's why I have to finish what I started, it doesn't matter how bad it will go. I have finished series that I read past 25% or have dropped it before I get to 25%.What I'm trying to say is that, Fairy Tail had a good start then went bad. Bleach had a great start then it got worse. I don't think it's logical to just drop it when they're already in their final phase. I guess I just have to bear with it a little longer. =P
P.S. I don't wanna argue with you cuz it seems like you're the #1 FT Fan in APForums. I'm just stating my opinion in this series and how I feel about it.
-
Also that car was silly…
Design wise, it is. The wheels don't look that they have good traction, on off-road no less. It's like a horse carriage except without horses. Worse, it drains magic power from the driver and apparently doing great at it.
It's a mystery that they could even secure one while inside enemy territory.

I don't hate Fairy tail, I think it's garbage but it can be enjoyable schlock. By around the end of the Edolas arc I just lowered my expectations for the series right down and it's been a bit more fun to read ever since. Mashima still can't do fight choreography to save his life, but I think his art is pretty decent. Many story elements can be pretty lame but because it's always so fast paced we're at something new within a couple of chapters anyway. I like it when Fairy Tail is light hearted and goofy, like the scene this chapter with the group running away from the sand-man in that kooky looking car. Also I like Lucy's butt.

Yeah I'm in the same boat. The series became a lot more enjoyable for me when I finally understood that Hiro Mashima doesn't take this seriously. Fights are some of my favorites in all of modern shonen for the simple reason that he usualy doesn't skip around, off-panel or cut to flashbacks in the middle of the fights, and if he does it's usually pretty brief.

Lou, as this series' Nr. #1 fan (:*) I shall ask you the following– http://readms.com/r/fairy_tail/446/2880/1
How many of the villains portrayed above are still alive and kicking? And how many did go down disgracefully? As usual, the designs looks somewhat appealing but I trust Hiro-chan only so far as I can spit when it comes to handling his villains. Feel free to enlighten me, my friend.
Anyone else who wants to chip in while Lou's perhaps offline, you're most welcome to.
Edit: Holy shit, Lucy's being useful?! I've been away for too long it seems.

All of them are still active, the arc just kicked off about 5 or so chapters ago.

If FT Magazine and its spin-offs are any indications, I think Mashima is pretty serious about making FT worth it. Maybe his quality standards aren't quite there yet, but at least his efforts are.
IDK, maybe FT has never had much problem with ratings so that Mashima never really tries to improve himself in other aspects beyond art department.

! @Louis-1988:
! > Who are you to tell me who I can respond to
! I wasn't telling you to do anything. I was asking you not to not turn the thread into total garbage with a stupid VS discussion.
! > He clearly states that he "swallows" them after he used his quicksand ability on Team Natsu.
! "Swallowing" something into sand isn't even a destructive feat. The pit he created wasn't even big enough to cover 1 or 2 large buildings let alone an entire town.
! > she made the island many times larger
! The only thing she did was make it taller. Even after that it was only as big as a small mountain at best.
! > which puts him at island level destructive capacity
! Neither of them has displayed the ability to outright forcibly destroy anything of worth. The fact that you'd even say this is nothing short of laughable. Even the Dragons have only displayed city level, maybe mountain level destruction thus far and they're FT's strongest. -

"We just don't want to miss dinner". What a boss! Spriggan 12 isn't a joke, either. Confirmed that one is enough to solo Team Natsu + Makarov. Really looking forward to seeing what the other members are capable of now.
-
Meh, Mashima really ruined all that hype building at the end. He should've just had the Spriggan tank that attack. Just goes to show how bad Mashima is at consistant power levels when the Spriggan was okay after everyone else attacks but then he had to someone else step in to take Laxus's solo attack.
