Raido, are you gonna mess this up somehow?

Ugh, why is Shin at the center of the attack on what's supposed to be a weak link in the defense? What's the point of attacking the weak point if the enemy can see what you're doing and bolster their defenses? Oh well, I should reserve my judgement for the time being, maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised.
-
Always kinda confused with this threads updates but if I'm not mistaken this should be the new chapter:

It is, thanks for linking.
The previous arc dragged on and on and had lots of downs, but somehow I'm fired up again. Maybe because we're back to actual strategy, maybe because the pace has quickened. Waiting to see what will come out of the climbing effort

A simple heartwarming chapter. Getting the old vibe back.
-
The mountain tribe would leave them in the dust.
-
That was enjoyable. Simple yet credible scenes for the infantry. Also, after the initial BS with Rei, I now kind of like her role.

I share the sentiment. Somehow this simplicity just worked for me. No bullshit awakening, drilled instinctual type. Just the fruits of their very harsh training back when many of those guys were newcomers. I can see why this might not be to everyone's liking but to me it did.^^
-
Well I hope this do not trample on whatever Kanki was scheming.
-
I mean if it did, it would only be Kanki's fault for not explaining not one single part of his plan to anyone, leaving his allies in just as much confusion as his enemies.
-
Even if it did, it strikes me more of something that would be considered a positive surprise by Kanki.
Anyways just want to point out how Shin keeps getting referred to as Captain by his men. I don't take it as a display of disrespect and rather the opposite. It just feels like it shows a more familiar bond between him and his men. Would really feel off now if they'd call him general. Unless of course all of this is a mistranslation. Then my statement means nothing.^^'

Ou Sen wouldn't move an inch for Ou Hon.

Ou Sen wouldn't move an inch for Ou Hon.
Doubt that. He may be portrayed as being cold and emotionless, but he's no robot.
Wonder if this guy is too tough a nut to swallow for Zeno and his bunch. He's definitely gonna go into battle frenzy now. I'd love to see Kanki even mildly concerned.
But dammit, how epic is this panel, think my jaw dropped a little. Goosebumps almost!
!
Helps if you cover the lower part of the horse. :ninja:

It's kind of an honorary nickname for someone who started off by leading the men directly and climbed up in ranks. At least it appears so in some other works of fiction I've read, and it's always used for leaders well liked by their men.
Wheel of Time series slight spoilers pertaining general world building, you won't miss out on anything, but just so you know if you plan to read it and start as a blank slate:
! 5 most esteemed generals on the continent are called Five Great Captains collectively.

Yep, that's exactly why I find it such a nice touch.

! Ou Hon sits out, so the better character can get shine. Also, Rai Do deserves that.
-
No REAL horses were harmed during the production of this manga.
-
Surprised to see we return to Raido this quickly. On that note, seems his two captured subordinates are about to experience hell.
-
The bun looking bastard feels really dangerous to me. But i wonder how much of that is due to him resembling White from Toriko. Also his mace, that looks like huge behelit.
-
He looks the part for sure, but after all the fuss with Houken I wouldn't want Bun Guy to be comparatively much of a threat for Shin. I would find underwhelming in retrospect that there were even worse monster types hidden in the surrounding countries all along

Unfortunately, seems that's exactly what happened. The dude never left Kantan and just kept training and training…
Even so, Shin had help against Houken and still barely survived. So this dude could still pose a decent threat, with his heavier weapon and exotic martial art.
It's funny how his entire appearance is dogu statue themed.

I didn't know about the Dogu statues, but the resemblance is striking indeed.
Anyway, new chapter out.
https://sensescans.com/reader/read/kingdom/en/63/686/page/1! Looks like Raido got what was coming to him. That scene felt more gruesome than the usual cleave-people-in-two, but he endured it all like a champ. I wonder if his death is also part of Kanki's plan, and if so how.
Either way this has me a lot more interested than the Hi Shin cliff battle -
I really like this arc.
-
Bihei will save the day!
-
I totally forgot that Shin still had Hyou's sword.
-
Bihei the glaive holder
-
Lol, what a twist.
In general it feels like Hara did a re-read himself… with good results.
-
Shin needs better comebacks when arguing with these generals.
-
At least this time he's not pulling through thanks to any lifespan bullshit (so far). I'm interested in how the clash of their respective attitudes towards war spices up the fight, but I do wish Shin had smarter retorts than "you're wrong". :getlost:
-
Yeah, shorten the discussion and lengthen the choreography. Maybe don't make it so one sided in favor of Gakuhaku. I mean there should be no excuse for Shin not spending a lot of that free time sparring with Karyoten. His sword skills should be a lot more impressive.
-
All according to Keikaku.
-
First time we are seeing HSU brandishing head of enemy commander ?
-
16 characters of gigi. Akakin stays one of my favorite character additions.
Everything was resolved a little too fast for my liking but still a feel good chapter overall.
Not sure regarding the head, it stood out while reading so I think you might be right.
-
They brandished the head to spread the news that the general had fallen to boost morale on the Qin side and lower it on the Zhao side.
-
yeah, I think the reason was clear but auem raised the question whether the Hi Shin unit ever did that at a past war
-
! Not just tricking the enemy, but it's also a surprising and out of place spectacle to me as viewer too. Kanki not wasting any time, which is opposed to flow of his actions, or rather "non activity" so far, and taking this opportunity to jump straight to the throat. Good stuff.
-
Those little attacks were so ominous, lol. Quite an amazing panel at the end. Effective first and last page.
And boy, oh boy, Zenou and his berserkers are gonna have a field day blasting through the HQ. Saki clan too later on, hope we don't get too see much of that part, ugh…
-
Ok, now I'm interested. Go Kanki ! Looking back at recent years, it could be the Hi Shin unit has slowly become the least entertaining part of this manga.
-
How fortunate that all those who survived by hiding and playing dead, found correct direction to Zhao HQ at the same time.
-

How can you tell they didn't dispatch from the same place at the same time. I'm all for critisizing the shortcomings of the series but your remark is based on what exactly?
-
Eh!?
They were all scattered away. How can they be 'dispatched' from same place, much less at 'same time'? Nobody knew the plan. Someone as close to Kanki as Raido
guessed it at final moments. So,even if the other groups all had a dawn of same realisation, reaching there at the same time is way too convenient. You can't argue that
there was a designated meeting point,as that would break the secrecy.
My main problem is if Kanki and a small grp made it there for the guerrilla attack,it would have been fine. But Hara made a coordinated attack from all sides. -

I would say "nobody knew the plan…but a select few". The couple thousand men with Kanki aren't even a tenth of his army. 5%, maybe less. Because Raido and Maron didn't know doesn't mean there weren't instructions shared with other clans - Raido did hear a few words from Messenger Guy, so orders were passed. I do agree it's overly convenient if all these troops managed to converge by sheer chance ; but if a few commanders had orders that made them wait in secrecy and bid their time with the most vicious of their troops ? Works for me. As for knowing where to converge, it's not like the location of the enemy HQ changed much over the past few days/weeks.

My main problem is if Kanki and a small grp made it there for the guerrilla attack,it would have been fine. But Hara made a coordinated attack from all sides. While I do get where you are coming from I would still say that there's no proof thqt they appeared randomly. I admit that I myself have no actual proof for the opposite but I cannot picture Kanki coming out there by himself without having things set up for him to feel safe to expose himself now. Olus the fact that we've seen Akakin pulling a strategy where he and his troops where hiding in the bushes to launch a surprise attack only when the requirements are met in this very arc makes me give this the benefit of the doubt that something similar happened here. Akakin waited for Ouhon to actually open the path for his surprise attack. Ouhon never came but Akakin waited for the oppurtunity to present itself one way or the other. Don't such a strategy is suddenly considered a stretch in this situation.
And as Seafarer said it should be obvious that Kanki has told a couple select few of this plan for the simple fact that he wouldn't be there right now if he wouldn't know that his men are there doing exactly what he expects them to do in this situation. Are those guys his generals? No. But then among good war strategies thete's also the one that does not only deceive your enemies but also your allies. And Kanki totally is the guy to pull a move like that.

New chapter was out btw^^
