! At least no2 did it for the lol, eizan just thinks that he's favored. But as the least important of the elite for anti-sanji I see him being betrayed and replaced soon. The others might have very varied thought process, but it fits with the first ones thinking of "only the ingredients matter" he'd be horrified of somas weird experiments, and glasses girl might be actually pro formal education, someone like mimikasa who is good at cooking but has a hard time creating would support the system.
Food Wars - It's In the Trash

-
! That. I feel like I was forgetting something crucial in my previous posts. Tootsuki's brand power lies in the competitive style of the school where only a selected few graduate. The graduation rate of less than 1% is indeed ridiculous in real life. But seeing how it is the best and toughest culinary school in Japan, the absurdly low graduation make sense. Only the best of the best chefs can make it big in the culinary world. Even those that didn't graduate can also be successful because of Tootsuki's brand power.
To be fair, under Senzaemon's system, the students did learn during their middle school years. Even in the high school division, the students are still learning and attend classes regularly. Of course, it has become more of a "survival of the fittest" situation in high school. The students also get to pursue their individual cooking style in clubs activities.
! Azami's system remove that completely and would definitely destroy Tootsuki's brand power. He's practically firing all the lecturers at this point. Even the shokugeki system may also be gone. It's starting to seem like he intent to destroy Tootsuki instead of helping it. In which case, he's doing a damn fine job.
! The E.10 who are supporting him are also starting to piss me off. Especially the 2nd seat. I'm still willing to give them a chance if their motivation is logical. But I do agree that they are causing harm to themselves as chefs and destroying the school.
Giving so much power to a bunch of teenagers is a really bad idea. I hope somebody reduce the E.10 power after this arc. -
This is what happens when you put kids on a pedestal, make them feel special/superior, and give them power….
"Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely."
-
! The E.10 who are supporting him are also starting to piss me off. Especially the 2nd seat.
! How dare you say that to the new best girl?
-
Casanova scans site is dead, chapter's not out on IRC, where are people getting the chapters from? or just lack of spoiler tags?
! "elitist school no Soma" doesn't sound as cool as "Shokugeki no Soma"
! It's turning the 6 of the elite 10 into jokes for supporting this idiot. At least Erina wasn't amongst those 6. -
! I'm curious on how this will affect Isshiki in particular considering he's living at the Polar Star Dorm and one of the member of the E.10 who weren't part of the six that voted for Azami.
-
! I really want to see the elite 10's logic in making this decision.
! Rindo claimed it would making things interesting, but uhh, it seems to be doing the exact opposite of what she would find interesting.
! yeah…. -
Rindo is the one who wants to get a reaction from the body, for someone to come and challenge them, or just fade away.
First seat believes in this shit the most, as its his style of removing his existence from the dish
Eizan is out for revenge
At least deserts girl or sword guy have an external reason, probably a sick mother or something cliche like that, the other one was humbled by cooking.
Glasses girl seems like an elitist as well. The plan is solid though, innovation for the elite imitation for the rest? It works.
-
kapitalism vs communism.
-
So wait, how would Azami pick the next politburo after the Elite 10 graduate? If everyone's just copying, and students would eventually only enroll only learn how to copy, how would he know who's good enough to create their own dishes?

kapitalism vs communism.
I wonder how Eizan fits into all of this?
-
There better be a shokugeki (remember those ?) against this smug asshole on the last page.
-
The plan is solid though, innovation for the elite imitation for the rest? It works.
Yeah, no.
I don't want to imply I'm repeating aohige's post word for word, but that was basically my thought too. So I advise you to read it again.
When your plot involves butchering the premise title of the manga just to promote the villain, saying it's a bad plan would be an understatement.
aHonestly, if the damage from mr hentai-generic-character could be self contained I wouldn't have much issue with it. It could simply be a bad arc and it could be written off like it never happened. However, at the moment it's damaging the 6 of the elite 10 for supporting this shitty character, and Erina due to the whole backstory thing. And the elite 10 were somewhat established in the story, so damage to them is not likely to be reversible.
Gotta say, this is the first time a revolution in any story got a meh response out of me. The mechanics are simply too badly executed, and you can see the flaws from a mile away. It simply will fail if for no reason other than because it goes against the entire premise of the story.
I am sick of that trope where the setting is an "elite society" except it turns out it's not any different from a normal setting. I wonder if there's a TVtropes page for it given how much I've seen it in manga.
Supposedly, Totsuki is an elite school which has extremely high entrance requirements and promotes heavy competition. So why is there a distinct lack of pride and so many shitty chefs around? People like Kanichi Konishi or generic spineless idiots like those on ch139p14 shouldn't have got in. It feels like an average place now.–- Update From New Post Merge ---
So wait, how would Azami pick the next politburo after the Elite 10 graduate?
implying he'll last that long as a villain, or that he actually thinks ahead that far, what do you expect from a generic elitist aristocrat character?
although a serious answer would probably be he raises a random student through his
bland rape"polishing".There better be a shokugeki (remember those ?) against this smug asshole on the last page.
shokugeki system might have been abolished, extrapolating from the current policies. Wouldn't make much sense to keep it, if one wants to lower expulsion rates and reduce creativity.
I want a title change: "Shokugeki no Soma is not a 「Shokugeki」 manga"
-
Tootsuki is still a pretty elitist school though. While there are indeed some spineless chefs in the school, they are the ones on the chopping blocks and won't make it to the one- digit passing rate. They also serve as fodder for the talented chefs. Not everyone can be genius or have a strong determination to survive. They are just normal students hoping against all hope to survive and make it big.
-
Well we all called the Polar Star getting attacked. Let's see if we will be right about a series of Shokugekis between them and the elite 10.
Also it would only take changing two votes to completely undo this. Doesn't that make Erina's dad a pawn of the 6 who voted for him? What power does he really have? And why does he think this will work at all?
-

I guess I haven't watched that much anime, but I suppose Totsuki's reputation is worse than what it actually is. Konishi being in a place like Totsuki actually makes his character more interesting, because I wonder if he's actually quite good if he calms down. (Kinda like Megumi)
But you always need more fodder characters, otherwise it's gonna be the same people reacting to villains over and over again. -
Am I the only one who thought of this?
-
So why you are getting angry at the Villian endangering the setting of the manga? Isn't that supposed to be what they do?
Megumi will say what I feel about this development soon enough. But aohige's analisys lacked the part where the elite would keep on improving, that enough in anti-sanjis view to carry the school. The view of having 100 unique cheffs vs 100 clones of each the elite 10 is the point of the next arc.
-
Azami has a very long finger.
-
Nicely done.
-
Yeah noticed that too.
-
Hmmm. Feels too early in the series to have this sort of plot. We haven't seen a foodgasm in like forever. Also I don't feel like the festival really had a conclusion. I suppose the only positive right now is the characters interacting together.
It seems silly to close down reasearch clubs. Jun is doing research that is world wide beneficial not just stuff that soley pertains to having the tastiest dish. Growing healthy plants outside their native climates is really impressive. Hayama is going to be super angry.
-
This feels like a final arc.
Cliche villain aside, this whole. "I'm not going use you all as pawns" seems to hint at something interesting, but will it go anywhere?
Either way. "Aw shucks" Soma expression says all we need to know. "Don't worry guys, I got this."

him and souma will probably be the guys trying to get some elite ten seats to put an end to this bullshit in this arc.

To me it's like this: we have before a manga about cooking duels with a good cast: several characters and stories involved in the enterprise to try to be good chefs. Now we have a bunch of students trying to break the jail created by a wacko-rival. I prefer the first plot, and since it was chronologically the first one the author is taking a huge risk with such a change. Just at this point we already have lost 6 possible interesting characters, since the elite ten who supported Azami's rules are as wacko-stupid as he is. (No academy in no part of the world forbids creativity among students, so Totsuky is not, precisely elitist at this moment, but plainly stupid, in academic terms.)
Now the question is: will the story be able to make something good of this change? Will it come back somehow to a story focused on cooking duels (because if not, that would ruin the story for ever)?
Up to now it's not funny as it was in the past arcs.
The proper title should be Shokugeki no Soma is [psycho-wacko] manga
-
Current chapter put elite ten in very poor light. They seem to be power hungry people who want to create their own linage in Totsuki.Since there won't be any shokugeki any more,it is pretty much certain that once they graduated only those who they approve will take their place. That way they can always keep their influence.
-
Honestly, is there any good reason why Senzaemon thinks it is a good idea to give so much power to a bunch of teenagers?
Giving the E.10 unlimited budget for them to improve their culinary skills is fine and all.Tootsuki is a rich school and wanting the E.10 to be better chefs make sense. But why give them so much power??
There are good reasons why most directors are at least in their thirties because they have more experience. A bunch of teenagers who have yet to start working aren't enough mature to think of the consequences of their action let alone making important corporate decisions. They are just chefs not experienced businessman.
Also, around 5 of the E.10 changes every year which make the "board of directors" unstable.
I'm honestly suprised nobody has pull this stunt of changing the directors in the past. Senzaemon really deserve losing his position as director for his idiotic decision in giving the E.10 so much power. -

Senzaemon really deserve losing his position as director for his idiotic decision in giving the E.10 so much power. We don't know who created the elite ten council as an academic-administrative unit. So it's possible, for instance, Sensaemon was elected in the past for another elite ten council. It's simply part of Totsuki's organization.
I think it's better not to try to make sense of the academic organization in the series in terms of what we can see in the academic real world. In education, to let the students decide what they want to study or to make them feel as a part who decide what they are doing in the school is a very common and well credited practice in academic world. (You can find the sources of it in the progressive education movement which began around XIX in different countries). But to let the students to decide who is the director and which ones are the correct educative polices is not a regular practice and it barely makes sense at all. What is very common is that both things, the director and the polices, are chosen by a collective unit usually involving students representatives, teachers representatives, administrative personal, academic coordinators, etc. I don't know how it is in Japanese education but I highly doubt the students have the kind of prerogative the elite ten have in this story.
-
The school system thing reminds me of:
Soma: And then, how many promotions until I am made ruler of Tootsuki?
Senzaemon: About four… -
Here is an excellent review of Shokugeki no Soma
-
Is there a purpose for cooking duels in Azami's administration? At least, the elite ten seems to be no longer decided with duels.
"
Shokugeki no Somaor "You, obey the fist" manga!" -
So, eizan is defeated by.. I don't know, fat aldini, do you think azami will keep eizan after that humiliation? He will pick the talented ones, and he is certain that only from those will rise the new elite. The power is concentrated in those he deems worthy, but he can't just ignore an outside forvhe that just cooks better.
This thread is jumping to conclusions faster than the bleach one.

How much?

The SRP will be 11574 yen.
I'm really really tempted, tbh.

That hair colour looks quite off. I'm sure it's that not that same shade of orange, surely.

As am I. Cannot make my mind up.

Depsite not being an Erina's fan, that figure look really good and well made. Though it costs over 400 dollars in my country when converted over…

140 spoilers
! WolverineSkewer-senpai seems to be the first casualty of the reform after losing to Eizan. And Eizan confirmed a massive piece of shit who resorts to bribery for wins - the judges voted 3-0 without even tasting the dish.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Few more.
!
-
Urges to kill sharply increasing…
-
! LAMEEEEE. Admittedly, Delinquent characters using underhanded and downright dirty tactic isn't unusual. Himekawa from Beelzebub comes to mind. But that guy is at least cool about it and has standards to how low he will go. Well, the author successfully ruin Eizan for me. If Eizan bribe the judges as a unnecessary precaution in the event that he lose, I won't be so pissed. Or bribe them to insult and demoralize skewer guy AFTER trying his dish and we know for a fact that Eizan's dish was better, I would have been fine with it.
I thought Eizan was a smart guy but he OUTRIGHT cheated and make it so bloody obvious he's cheated. I get that Eizan is trying to humiliate skewer guy but he end up making himself look like the more incompetent chef in this match.
It makes the E.10 look really bad as a whole as if most of them don't already look bad by supporting Azami..
So, is Eizan even a skilled chef at all?! It makes me question if Eizan was even good enough to enter the E.10…
! At least, Subaru was honourable enough to obey shokugeki rules and not rigged the match to his favour. Of course, there's the issue of him stalking his opponent..
Bias judge isn't actually unusual and does happen in real life. It does make me worry for the any future shokugeki as I will have to wonder whether the match was rigged…=.= -
^Yeah, Subaru straight up fought with food.
HOW you learn how to cook is entirely irrelevant, and as creepy and douchebag as he was, he fought fair and square by the rules of cooking competition.Subaru is a SAINT compared to this garbage of a chef.
-
! Actually, this establishes Eizan as the perfect antagonist for Soma. You think he did this because he actually isn't as skilled as you think? Wrong. Eizan thinks is not worth his time taking on his opponents in a fair match and brives the judges instead, to show them that even in the event their dish had a remote chance of being better than his, Eizan would still get his way anyway. This match serves as warning to Soma and PSD.
! He's a massive son of a bitch, and I can't wait for Soma to land on him the humilliation of his life. And now, here's a brief summary of the chapter.
! Chapter 140: Warning
As a part of Azami’s reformations, Eizan came to shut down PSD.
Everyone is shaken at this abrupt news.
! Yoshino: “you wanna fight?! you-!!“
Yoshino immediately protests, while Soma reacts unexpectedly.
Soma:”rather than standing around talking, how about some tea?“
He serves tea to Eizan and his companions
Soma:”some time ago, you said you’d come to defeat me - when are you coming over?“
They get to the issue at hand
Soma:”PSD is independent, why are you shutting us down?”
Eizan:”The problem is that there exists organizations other than Central. Only one is needed. That is what we(the academy side) have decided“
Fumio:”…”
Soma:”Can the decision to shut down PSD be overturned? for example, via shokugeki“
Eizan:”of course. that is, only if we decide to accept.“
“We have absolutely no obligation to accept. Nevertheless, there was a flood of shokugeki challenges from almost all the organizations/associations.
Therefore, we have decided to accept, with the addition of significant risk by the opponent. There’s a shokugeki today too, so come and watch.”
[Eizan’s shokugeki]
The first to send a shokugeki challenge was Kabutoyama of the Skewer RS, who had had expressed indignation at Azami’s speech.
The terms are if Kabutoyama wins, the Skewer RS is allowed to continue; if Eizan wins, Kabutoyama will be expelled. Along with the members of Skewer RS, the two head towards the kitchen.
! Eizan:”I will crush your best dish”
Eizan taunts Kabutoyama. Thus starts the shokugeki.
However, Soma notices that something is strange.
! To tasting.
However, even before tasting of food commences, the results are shown.
“Kabutoyama 0, Eizan 3″
! Kabutoyama freezes at the results:”huh…?”
The members of Skewer RS are baffled too.
Eizan has apparently bribed the judges.
Eizan:”Too bad”
“..the match is over. Skewer RS lose”
by ursurping shokugeki, this serves as an example/warning
“Shokugeki is dead…”
Hope has disappeared…!? -
! Hope is lost
! This series is now "Bribery no Soma" -
no Shokugeki Soma

So everyone is angry at the villians not following the rules? and not to the villian but the author? I'm done with this thread.
-
So everyone is angry at the villians not following the rules? and not to the villian but the author? I'm done with this thread.
Yeah how dare this series have a villain do villainous things! Clearly this is bad writing!!!
-
we're disappointed at the villain for being badly introduced, often making no logical sense…
...and that establishing said villain required collateral character damage to no less than 7 of the elite 10 (Erina counted due to backstory bs, despite not voting for this idiot), who unlike said villain were somewhat we;; established in the story. Erina was more or less a second main character. If the villain sucks for any reason, that damage is passed onto the 6 who voted for him.
I dunno, maybe people had expectations for the elite 10 to be worthy opponents who could be challenged (and defeated) in honourable cooking duels. this support just drops them into corrupt executives territory who are only interested in maintaining the status quo. It doesn't help that them overrulling the director makes little sense, and wasn't hinted at back in chapter 3 when the structure was explained. It seemed to imply they had complete control over the lower management, but not the upper management.
Honestly when your best reaction to the character is "this generic guy belongs in one of Tosh's ero-manga" even if you haven't read any of them, it's not saying much for the character.
-
So everyone is angry at the villians not following the rules? and not to the villian but the author? I'm done with this thread.
The thing is that up to some chapters ago, no villian was necessary. But that's not what the author had in mind. And now the question it's it this is interesting villian. And the comparison is not with the other villians but with how good was the story when there was no villian. Just a personal opinion. But I'm open to see good things will happen.. I hope.
-
So everyone is angry at the villians not following the rules? and not to the villian but the author? I'm done with this thread.
Huh? No?
I like it when they make us hate the villain.
