This looks incredible. It will be the first new game I've bought since Skyrim.
Grand Theft Auto V

It's breathtaking.
Really I don't know what I could say about this. I'm totally speechless. -
Right away, I love the look of the car and character customization, as well as how the weapon mechanics look. Looks like R* is taking some cues from Red Dead Redemption, with the inclusion of wild life and bounty hunting side-missions. The fact that they mentioned wildlife being able to hunt you is giving me serious RDR cougar flashbacks; I hope the wildlife in this game won't be that bad, though.
Amazing trailer, even if it was a bit on the short side. My hype level has definitely shot up (and it was pretty high to begin with)…
-
Take my money…I dont care I just want this game.
-
Calling the gameplay brilliant, outstanding, amazing, etc, would be an understatement. I'm literally puking rainbows right now.
Calling it now, this will be game of the year.
-
Game of the generation right here. There's a narrative alright, but the gameplay. That gameplay! That free open world playground of sweet wonderous gameplay! The care for this kind of gameplay isn't something you'd find in those other blockbuster AAA titles, that's for sure.

It's funny how Grand Theft AUto IV was absolute garbage and this looks really really fun.
RDR had renewed my faith that this could work out real nice, but that play looks stellar. The key to sandbox titles is to provide a great wealth of tools and this looks like it nets it.

Exactly how I feel. I love how they emphasized that they're trying to make the gameply actually fun this time around, instead of making it feel like a shoddy simulation. Everything I've seen about this game so far looks fantastic, and I'm so excited to participate in a couple heists.
-
I've said this before, but GTAIV really did feel like it tried to weave this narrative with attempted realism, while ignoring the key things that made GTA what it was. Which was an exaggerated, satirical and madly materialistic view of real life. Never did GTAIV feel it was pushing for any of that. The game just felt like a boring day-job.
-
While I didn't think gta IV was crap I totally was disappointed. Felt like a huge step back from san andreas.
I also certainly didn't think the narrative demanded the massive loss of features. I mean in my mind nico's story wasn't any better/worse than 3/vice city/san andreas. Also why did they screw with the heli controls….So dunno just felt like we got a gta from a generation back with prettier graphics. Supposedly it's better with the 2 addons but the pc version was so awful I didn't bother going back for those.
Still not feeling the hype on the game same as before every other gta. Will hit me fully while I'm installing again, this time a hopefully better pc version.
-
Grand Theft Auto IV is a very mixed bag for me. When it's good, it's great. When it's bad, it's utterly atrocious. I find it unbelievable that so many awful ideas made it into the actual game. Losing a gun when it runs out of ammo, just to name one example. But yeah, GTA V. I will try to keep my hype to a minimum in the hopes that it'll make the game seem that much better once I actually get it. One thing I'm particularly curious about is the circle that shows Michael, Franklin and Trevor– There's an empty slot at the bottom of it. Could there be a surprise playable character? Recruits? Am I making any sense here?

I'm gonna take the risk of creating controversy here and ask… Is this a snide remark against Saints Row?
-
The 4th character is your multiplayer character. I think thats how you go back an forth while carrying over whatever with the one you create.
-
Did they mention that in the trailer? If so, I must've missed that. I was just hoping that it would be a surprise character, since someone from Rockstar stupidly announced that
! "You will be playing as the hero and the villain of the game.
-

I never played Saint's Row.
I sorta meant that the open world genre is extremely saturated. To the point it's generic and overdone. I wish I could go into deep detail, but my biggest gripe about these games is the reusing of content. Like developers would go far to make this big open and detailed city with the most generic and repeated optional things to do(all for what? experience in some abitary level up mechanic?). Take that one sandbox spiderman game for example. How many times would you encounter a girl losing her balloon? Or any open world game where the objective is to hit markers on a linear obstacle course, or follow someone without being caught. Aside from collecting x-amount of items for a unsatisfactory reward(, the list just goes on. This is sort of why I hate where the genre has come since GTA.
So far, this game looks like it actually brings something fresh to the table while keeping the aspects that made the games fun in the first place.

From that info list posted on pg.15,
_-The character selection wheel is split into four triangles: Franklin, Trevor, Michael, and your multiplayer character
-It seems there's a closer relationship between single and multiplayer. Simply pressing Down on the d-pad will drop the play in and out of MP._ Too soon to say if you can actually use your multiplayer character in sp though.
-
Game looks pretty cool. Kind of bummed them changed the radar though. Shooting looks like MP3 which was expected. When they said gameplay trailer I was expecting it to be one long snippet of gameplay, not just some here and there interspersed. This game will probably be the last hurrah for this console gen.

! Is there anymore context to this? Cause my reaction to reading that was "Well, yeah, I'm playing as thieves. They're the main characters but they're not good people."
Also looks like they are in fact following Max Payne 3 in regards to how the game controls. Thank you, Rockstar.

It's just the impression I got since they're coming out so close together, and both have character/vehicle customization. I'm a bit weird about open world games as of late, though. Just when I was starting to think like you (there's too many of them, they're all fairly similar) I realized I've become apprehensive about getting games when they're not open world. I start to wonder if they're gonna be worth the cost. I'm completely with you on the collectibles, though. Games like Arkham City seriously overdid it in that department. Regarding your other points–Saints Row The Third either avoids alot of those open world tropes or tries to do something different with them. Despite not being the most polished game ever, it still feels to me like the developers wanted to fix alot of the mistakes made with GTA IV. They are, however, guilty of literally reusing content, as the graphics of SRIV look identical to its predecessor.

It was in an interview for the New York Times. (That "someone from Rockstar" turned out to be Dan Houser, by the way.) http://www.nytimes.com/2012/11/10/arts/video-games/q-and-a-rockstars-dan-houser-on-grand-theft-auto-v.html?pagewanted=all&_r=1&
! Here's the exact quote:
Q. How does the new, three-character structure help you get closer to the ambitions you have for the medium?
! A. Just at the conceptual level, the idea was three separate stories that you play in one game. The next bit was, let’s not have the stories intersect once or twice but have them completely interwoven. It felt like it was going to be a real narrative strength: you get to play the protagonist and the antagonist in the same story.
! That doesn't just sound like he's saying "Our heroes are bad people." At least not to me. -
That trailer…
I loved GTA 4, but this definitely blows it out of the park.
-
Game Informer has also put out two small Q&A articles with Rockstar, regarding the game's new gunplay and customization.
Good news all around, basically…
-
Good Lord Rockstar take my money right now. Switching between characters looks so smooth and easy.

I had more issues with - how they spend so much time designing places and then never send you there but instead have you going to the same place as a destination (not a quest hub) several times.
That said I can't wait to see this on my PC - going to turn it up to max settings and melt my card.
-
Yeah, I think I have already committed myself to killing late nights with this. Looks great!
-
I'm really happy they pushed the game back because it just looks, perfect. My God, I haven't been excited for a game like I am for this one since God of War III and Pokemon Black/White.

Perfect is a bit of a high call - it looks impressive but I think perfection is thrown around too liberally these days.
I am interested in the drop in drop out system of playthrough but it depends how that plays out storywise - is it better to play through 3 times focussing soley on 1 character per run - or switch and constantly feel like I am missing something important or cool.

It just looks like a perfect game personally for me. One of them that I can put up their with my favorites of all time that I can play at any time, constantly. Tetris, Pokemon Gold/Silver, Call of Duty 4, God of War 2, and Dark Souls.

Exclusive interview with Rockstar North…
Highlights:
[hide]-Custom cars that you can no longer drive (for example if its tires have been shot out) will no longer disappear - instead they will be taken to an impound lot. You can pay a fine to retrieve your vehicle.
-You don't lose weapons if they run out of ammo, they stay with you for the duration of the game.
-Hand-to-hand and melee combat has also received a huge overhaul. There is now no need to lock on to an enemy and it will feel a lot more free flowing.
-"Hits are much more satisfying" and "you can really feel the crunch."
-Each character has unique fighting animations.
-Your strength stat for each character affects your capability when fighting.
-Your shooting stat affects how steady your aim is, how much ammo you can carry.
-Destruction/damage has been greatly improved and there are plenty more destructive scenes.
-You will be able to shoot a vehicle's gas tank, drive the car into a group of enemies, then run away then set the trail of gasoline on fire to blow up the car and enemies.
-AI react to how you play, and different enemies will work differently (SWAT will be organised, attempt to flank etc. while gang members will be more gung ho and disorganised).
-Climbing has been improved considerably.
-You'll be able to position the three protagonists in fire fights (make one a sniper, another providing cover etc.).[/hide] -
-You will be able to shoot a vehicle's gas tank, drive the car into a group of enemies, then run away then set the trail of gasoline on fire to blow up the car and enemies.
That is f**king amazing I can't wait to do that.
-
My personal favorite tidbit is the fact that you won't lose a pimped out car if you have to ditch it. Hopefully the impound fee won't be too steep, though. Also, I love the fact that you'll be able to tactically position the guys to make the missions run smoother (it reminds me of Fallout: Tactics)…
-
Appropriate to my reactions.

-
This post is deleted!
-
we will have to make a GTA V online apforums crew
real excited for this
-
Looking forward to the liesure things like racing, seeing eachother's customs and other things.
Screw anything related to death-matches though.
-
Sweet! I usually don't get involved in multiplayer too often, but I could see myself getting into this.
-
I thought that I would enjoy MP3's multiplayer and that didn't work out, so we'll see how this goes.
-
That actually looks really awesome and entertaining.
I hope it turns out how it looks in the trailer -
My uni studies begin again starting October 5th….but god damn you Rockstar if I fail its all your fault.....and FIFA 14 damn EA too.
New online mode looks amazing. The whole damn game looks amazing, These kids have it so good these days.

Given how everybody will be using soft lock I can see why.
-
Not much of an online player either, but I might actually enjoy this
Some online missions would be cool as well, like they did with Red Dead Redemption. They came up with some cool missions, one would send you and friends down a raft on the US - Mexico border where you had to survive enemies from the coast shooting at you, throwing dynamite, stuff like that, maybe some really long and difficult cop chase mission that takes you across the whole map
or maybe you can even build and organize these missions yourself with that kit, that would take care of itGiven how everybody will be using soft lock I can see why.
they could just force everyone to play free aim like in Red Dead, that one had many players after the games release, so maybe fans will just accept it and adapt?
I just looked up Max Payne 3 since a lot of you mentioned it, and there seems to be some kind discussion going on about the choice to play free aim or soft lock, with most of the players being on the soft lock server, if I got that right, so maybe that's just another reason to just go with free aim only, just can't see people abandoning this game for that -
^ Well the difference between this and MP3's mp mode is that there's more to do in GTA V's mode beside's running around and shooting people so that definitely helps as unintresting some of that stuff was in GTAIV and RDR.

Good list, but San Andreas' soundtrack is still superior…
-
I want some Bone Thugs n Harmony.
-
That list is good and well, but it still won't beat the best musical inclusion in the series
seriously though, those are some cool tracks
-
So there's been various leaks, including plot points. So if you don't want the story spoiled now's the time to go on blackout. The leak has been confirmed to come from the preorder file for the game on the European PSN. Sony is sorry and Rockstar is pissed.
-
It won't stop anybody from buying the game.
