I'm glad they decided to use the WSJ cover for the time-skip, its a given they will include the color pages, right? Because I haven't bought an issue in a long time and last one I bought some Color pages weren't printed on color..
-
Never thought I'd see the day. It's a nice cover.
And 288 pages? Ouch.
@Badass:
you can't decide what he takes or leaves
Ahahaha, nice.
-
Lovely cover, they are 1 issue late though.:getlost:
EDIT: Shonen Jump thought I was complaining at them again(though they didn't give me a care package this time) and told me there is a future issue of Shonen Jump that will be packed full of One Piece. They told me it will be like a "mini collector". The twitter person also told me he wrote about 10 pages for it. They did something like that for Naruto last month promoting a movie, maybe there is another movie coming to the states?…..Ok I doubt that would be the case, but still. Ha ha..
-
@Vongola_Boss_XI:
Alexis heavily implied that there will not be a box set AT ALL let alone by 2013. The only series they've ever done box sets for are Dragon Ball, Naruto, and Fullmetal Alchemist
you left out: Vampire Knight, Death Note, and Bleach
If they did release OP Sets it would have to be in parts like they did with Naruto/Bleach.
Box 1: Vol 1-23 (end of Alabasta)
Box 2: 24-45 (end of Enies Lobby)
Box 3: 46-60 (end of Paramount War)It's probably not profitable them to do though (reprint the volumes, create packaging, hope they sell) . Though if they did VizBig One Piece edition and included revisions/color pages/VizBig size pages and all, I'd be all over those

hi, Im just worried….
I have been looking if there is an arc name cover of one piece volume 13.... because ive been looking all over the internet even in youtube, i havent find one...

-

-
Yep, was probably a accident.

Didn't know where to put this but it looks like viz is going to start a service where it will release chapters of Bakuman, Bleach, Naruto, Nura, One Piece, and Toriko two weeks after japan.
Here the source: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2011-10-14/viz-to-launch-weekly-shonen-jump-alpha-digital-anthology -
http://www.fandompost.com/2011/10/14/viz-media-launches-weekly-shonen-jump-alpha-digital-manga/
"Viz Media announced a surprising change this morning via the NYAF and Twitter that they’ll be launching a new weekly digital manga version of Shonen Jump with Weekly Shonen Jump Alpha. It will become the official digital release of Weekly Shonen Jump as seen in Japan according to the feed. Weekly Shonen Jump Alpha will be available on VizManga.com & apps for $.99/mo and $25.99/year starting Jan.30, 2012. The digital release will have installments of Bakuman., Bleach, Naruto, Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan, One Piece, and Toriko but will be two weeks after their print debut in Japan’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine.
According to ANN, “Viz will also offer Shonen Jump Digital Warp — an accelerated digital release of select manga titles to bridge the gap between the latest English graphic novels in print and the latest Japanese installments print. For example, Shonen Jump Digital Warp is starting from Naruto volume 53 now. (Viz published the print version of Naruto volume 52 last month.)”After the first three months of digital publication, the print edition of Shonen Jump in the US will end with an April dated farewell issue."

Don't want to say told you guys, but.. Told you guys.
As for the Weekly Shonen Jump Alpha its still too slow Viz 2 weeks after their print debut in WSJ means 3 weeks after their debut on the internet, so either VIZ stops scanlations (Unlikely) or this will be 3 weeks slow for most of us internet readers, is a step ahead that's for sure though :)
EDIT: Also I am sad they didn't include REBORN nor Gintama, at least as digital release to finish those mangas :*(. -
Really excited for SJ Alpha! You can begin signing up for it at noon today! :)))))))))))))))
-
What? Today already? That was fast!
I don't really read BLEACH, NARUTO, TORIKO, Nurarihyon and Bakuman scans take so long I might as well read through this.. But no way in hell I am gonna way those 3 extra weeks for my weekly dosis of ONE PIECE..
Gourmet Hunter, where can I sign up? I am a TOTAL noob on internet-legal related stuff LOL, also do I need to be on the US? -
Hm this explains the mini speed-ups. This is a pretty damn good deal for what you're getting.

Here's an article that I can actually seem to access: http://www.icv2.com/articles/news/21253.html
People fretting over the 2-week gap may want to note this part:
When asked why there was going to be a two-week delay in between the appearance of Shonen Jump in Japan and the digital Shonen Jump Alpha in North America, Viz Media's Senior VP and General Manager Alvin Lu said: "We wanted to give ourselves some room for improvement. If we can get this right, we will close the two-week gap in the future."
Personally, I think this was the best decision they could have made, for everyone.
For us, we can all complain a little less about how far behind we are from Japan, and whether the 99 cent rental is for keeping one issue for 4 weeks or getting 4 issues total or both, it's a lot better than the 5-6 dollar news stand price we've been paying. And those who want to buy to keep, the $26 model equates to about 55 cents an issue, or $1.65 for 3 weeks-worth, which is again better than what's been available.
And for VIZ, they've finally getting close to doing what music and movie people have doing for a while now: putting out content as quickly as the illegals and hopefully stemming the flow away from us needing them. Plus they've cut out the cost of printing for a product that will become obsolete when the regular volumes come out, which benefits them, us and our friends the trees. XD Doesn't mean I'm ready to give up my more permanent printed volumes, though.
-
I am so excited for this. Even though my appearance may seem calm from reading this, know that I'm virtually foaming at at the mouth with excitement.
-
Totally called the end of the magazine a few weeks ago when the mini speed up schedule was seen on Simon & Schuster!
This is pretty cool. I'll sign up….I mean I definitely plan to continue reading scans and buying the printed volumes. I just don't know if I'll do the 99 cents thing or the yearly subscription. $26 really isn't that much money for a whole year worth of HQ digital chapters especially if you download and save them on your computer.
-
Excellent. I will support this, if they do it right. I've said time and again I'd be willing to pay for proper timely release. 2 weeks isn't that bad, though the flow in comparison to this site would be awkward.
But 26 bucks a year to get all of Jump? Weekly? Including the titles they haven't touched before now? I'm down with that.
-
So…what happens to those of us who already have a subscription (2 years worth)?
EDIT: Nevermind.
-
Hopefully they'll go beyond those six initial series in the future.
-
YES! Huzzuh for the Digital Age!… I never once bought SJ back then for personal reasons, but just thinking that I can have all of them stored on my Comp would be great; Viz has been on a roll lately...
-
This would be a great time to roll out Beelzebub and Sket Dance and continue Gintama.
I'm totally on board with this and will subscribe when given the chance.
-
I'll probably subscribe. though I'd have to think about whether to read issues twice or just wait for them
-
Yeah, exactly. I have no clue if I will wait for these or read them when first available and then read them again in Weekly Shonen Jump Alpha. I guess I could wait. It's only two chapters. Toriko and Bakuman。are never really released on schedule all the time anyways.
Which means shit I have to catch up on Bakuman。. Better get started.
-
I think I might just read spoilers, and then wait for the chapters on alpha
-
I just found out if you already a subscriber to the print magazine you can get up to 3 free digital downloads on VIZmanga.com (graphic novels only) and your first year's subscription will be paid for. Which for me is awesome.
-

People fretting over the 2-week gap may want to note this part:
Well, that's great to hear that it's just a starting point.
With that known, we're at a great starting point. I'm glad to see something finally worked out, and with One Piece in it.
The only problem is that I got caught up to One Piece to keep me from getting spoiled (which One Piece manga spoiling happens far too often, even on non-One Piece forums). The fact that it will still be released on the internet nearly 3 weeks ahead of time does not much help me if I want to keep up with it only legally.
Hopefully as the two week bridge starts closing One Piece forums like this will start making rules and whatever to help those of us who wish to keep up with it only in legal ways, but I don't know that they will. =/
-
Am I the only one who get's their magazine in a plastic bag thing? Which means until I get my next issue I have no idea what my account number is since I always throw those bag things away?
AUGH.
Also, how big is the jump in Bleach going to be?
-

You're not I get it the same way. Hopefully we get the next issue next week. I remember having one laying around so I could always remember when my subscription expired but after I applied for a two-year subscription I threw it away knowing I wouldn't have to worry about it for a while.
I feel your pain.
-
Luffy and Rayleigh got the cover of the next Shonen Jump:
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
After the first three months of digital publication, the print edition of Shonen Jump in the US will end with an April dated farewell issue."
-
Well no matter what I'll keep reading scans. I have no desire to wait two extra weeks. But I may still subscribe. I can't really see forums just not talking about the latest chapter though. People who wanna wait for Viz will probably have to avoid forums to avoid spoilers as always.
-

What if VIZ closes that two week gap?
-
It's about time One Piece got on the cover. I bet this will be the last time it will be on a print cover too. That still looks nice though. Can't wait for it. AND I'm still miffed that I have to wait for the next issue to sign up for the 3 free downloads. I have no idea what I'd buy though….. I guess if it comes down to it, since they want to speed things up I'll buy Bakuman。speed-up volumes, since that's the only manga in the magazine I'm not caught up with.
-
Even if scans go up a week earlier than Viz, I'm still gonna keep reading scans. New OP chapter is a good way to relax every wednesday. I don't have any moral issues w/ reading scans and still buy all the OP stuff Viz releases in the US. I really don't have a reason to stop reading scans.
-
@Vongola_Boss_XI:

I think you mis-typed
-
Hm? I'm just saying that even if there's only a one week delay I'd still read the scans first and continue supporting Viz like always.
-
While this is good to hear, its a bit bitter sweet since i will miss reading big print versions of one piece and the rest while i take a dump.
In the end i guess Egon was right about print

-
If this was few years ago I'd be jumping up and down with joy that the magazine is finally dead but at this point it matters little to me. I'm just glad to hear they worked out a situation on getting of the Weekly Jump Chapters translated so quickly.
-
I'm confused.
So they are dropping the printed magazine, in favor of an online one so they can be 2 weeks behind the japanese Weekly Shonen Jump version, correct?
But does that mean that there will be another speed-up of the printed volumes volumes? If they are able to keep themselves two weeks behind the magazine, won't that mean that they'll be able to release a printed version two weeks after the latest japanese volume comes out? -
Probably a little more than two weeks….but they are accelerating the release of One Piece, Naruto, Toriko, Bleach, Nura, and Psyren to every other month at least through next May. They may narrow the gap to only a few month wait which would be excellent.
At one point Naruto volumes were only 5 months behind the Japanese volumes. I think it's possible they may work things out with One Piece and Naruto at least to be that close again. It seemed like the magazine was always the limiting factor in determining when volumes were released.
Also it seems the final One Piece chapter to be serialized in Monthly SJ Magazine in the US will be chapter 614 "What's Done is Done", the end of Volume 62. The final page is Luffy, Shirahoshi, and Megalo breaking out of the tower at Ryugu Palace.

Which is one of the reasons they are giving subscribers 3 free volumes. For example, Naruto Volume 53 isn't available in print edition to be sold in bookstores, but you can download it already on VIZManga.
-
No, not guessing. They've been running 3 chapters every month and we're up to 599 as of the October / November 2011 issue. There are 5 issues left of the magazine, so 15 more chapters brings us to 614 unless they switch back to 4 chapters per month…but I doubt that.
It would be nice if they ran chapter 0 STRONG WORLD at some point in the next 5 issues otherwise our chances of ever seeing it in print drop to almost nothing.

Yep, unless we got a digital volume 0! :P
-
Make it happen Viz!! Volume 0 chapter in the last issue of SJ!
And I bet the last cover is gonna contain all main characters of the mangas that are running (Maybe that ran?), heck I would love if this cover is actually drawn by the mangakas in Japan, Imagine a cover with the illustrations of OP, Naruto, Bleach, Nurarihyon, Bakuman and TORIKO done specially for the last issue.
