I love it how even with all the over the top jokes and humor, the characterization and the spirit of Springtime of Youth is 100 times truer to the original spirit of Naruto than actual Naruto.
This is really fitting of the name "the real Naruto manga".
That being said, the Tsunade chapter was histerical, and the Sweat attack was hilarious. Awesome.
The Springtime Youth manga really is better than current Naruto. If for nothing else in that it's not boring as shit.
The sweat attack left more of an impression on me than DOUBLE METEOR
I love tenten's reaction's. I think i lost it with Lee's desert coffinXD
Much better than the manga it's based on.. what's it's name again? I forgot. Irrelevant.
I didn't know sweat was a technique.
That actually has some canon in the other manga where Gai uses his sweat to defeat Kisame.
! With that said, Lee did it better.

…... Really? On the one hand that sounds fundamentally stupid to actually have in canon, but on the other, it's freaking Gai sensei. I completely forgot about that small detail, but I thought the attack itself was cool. But if that was any other character... at least he's not actually using the sweat to cause damage. That would be much worse.

Gai is the only one that gets a pass in naruto. Basically by stealing Bruce lee's style and name and making him wierd, Kishi managed to make a timeless character.
Gai is also currently the only character who keeps on being entertaining. That scene with him trying to see his "true self" is the only thing thus far in post-pein to the war arc that made me genuinely laugh. I miss the light-hearted aspect.
So much stuff…
[hide]Yeah, I had this argument before about how the tone of Part 1 is for the most part flipped in Part 2. That tone being destiny and fate are stupid things Naruto was shown to fight against.
The Naruto vs. Neji fight set up this manga and its audience against the themes of Destiny and Fate. We liked that. We were against the thought of a person having to follow a predestined path because Naruto was against it, and that was cool. If you weren't against it then you were in the minority cheering for Neji and what he stood for. People liked this Naruto better.
! http://img689.imageshack.us/img689/2821/55126737.jpgNaruto is not necessarily arguing against his overall destiny here, because like us he had no clue about it. What he IS arguing against though is the thought of Destiny and Fate being unavoidable. Now we have this Naruto.
! http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/7221/50810212.jpgHim going down an unavoidable path of fate and accepting it. Him being made to go along with something that he initially thought of as "dumb" and "crap". Ooops, not so dumb anymore. Welcome to Part 2.
Naruto is and was always special. True, it was obvious (no matter how dumb or not dumb you believe the reveal was) that Naruto was the 4th Hokage's son. Also true, Naruto had the Kyubi's chakra (half of it at least) implanted in him at birth. We knew these 2 things fairly early in the series. Ok, that's all cool he's- Oh, and news flash! He's the Destined Child born to bring destruction or salvation to the Ninja World~ What? NOTHING in this manga prepared us for this until it was thrown in around the Pein Arc. Actually, it was first mentioned in the Jiraiya vs. Pein fight. The closest thing that comes to this being hinted at is the very end of Part 1 (Naruto vs. Sasuke) where Kakashi mentions perhaps Naruto and Sasuke share the same fate as Senju Hashirama and Uchiha Madara. Now jump from that to Naruto being the destined savior of the world and you're doing one hell of a leap.
Note: Even though Kakashi made a hint at Naruto and Sasuke sharing the same fate as their predecessors Naruto was famous for calling himself a "fool" because he wanted to SAVE Sasuke. Not kill him or forget about him, so again in Part 1 Naruto is going against a fate which others might call unavoidable.
In general I'm not against the themes of Destiny and Fate. I'm not necessarily against the tone of a manga changing especially as it evolves, most notably after a timeskip. These are all fine things but the problem here is the stark contrast of tones in Part 1 and Part 2. It's like Kishi looked at Part 1 and said, "The hell with that, this is the way it's going to be now." Then he throws a hail mary and hopes people like it. Alright, it's his manga and he can do what he wants with it but as you can tell it was not well received. Barring the fact that you might believe we're all out to hate Naruto no matter what and supposedly make shit up to pick on, my argument is coming straight from the manga itself and what I and others see as a problem. Btw, I like 'Naruto' and many people on this forum can quote me from past discussions. This change in tone from Part 1 to Part 2 is one of the flaws I never liked though. Also, a little more information I really loved Part 1 of Naruto and thought Part 2 was solid all the way up to the Pein Arc.[/hide]
The issue of fate is another matter entirely, but probably makes for a worthwhile discussion. It's an issue with the author's execution of the subject, but there's nothing wrong with the characterization. Naruto believes he'll be the hokage some day. It's only natural that he'd say that he'd change destiny if it said otherwise, just like it's only natural that he'd embrace it if it supported him. It's still a jarring contrast for anyone who can put the two side by side. They're so far apart in the story that the average reader who's not reading through debates like these usually wouldn't catch it. Some still would.
Kishimoto may have been better served not to delve into the fate stuff too deeply. But once that ship had sailed, Naruto's subsequent handling of it seems fine. Maybe some readers would prefer if he still dismissed it. But I'm not sure that's entirely realistic.
@RobbyBevard:
Fair point. It really hard to argue the hard work theme of Naruto when Rock Lee has yet to win a fight. He personified and embraced that theme and said it over and over, "that with hard work and training, even a low class guy can overcome the elite!" And, thats a theme Naruto himself DID share.
Yes, Naruto had the kyuubi, and the bloodline and heritage… but he didn't know that. As far as Naruto knew or cared, he was just this low class orphan kid... who wanted to be better than the elite. That was the message he endorsed... that was what he told Neji, "that you aren't stuck being what you were born as".
Lee was the embodiment of that theme, the "genius of hard work". And yes he was crushed and lost time and time again. But he keeps trying, keeps wanting to be better. The BIG MAIN THING of it all is.. Kishi did a fantastic job in humanizing Lee and showing his struggles. The audience sympathises too well with Lee. He had a great backstory, and we WANT to see him succeed, and do well. We want that ideal to be right, to be proven to be true... because earlier likeable Naruto, and to this day likeable Lee, were great fun characters... as opposed to asshole elitist snobs Neji and Sasuke, who we just want to see put in their place.
Also it doesn't hurt that Lee was the first character to truly kick ass and have an amazing fight sequence that promised the future full potential of the series (unfortunatley it remains the best fight in the series) and even further gates for Lee to master and become greater with, and even a little bit of a promise of a tragic end with that eighth gate.
I agree the potential was extraordinary. He did nothing but struggle throughout part 1, finally regaining his form as the story hit the timeskip. There would have been a lot of happy fans if part 2 had flipped the script for him. He hasn't struggled in part 2, but he hasn't had the spotlight in the first place. Other than Shikamaru and to a smaller degree Chouji, none of Konoha 11 have had the spotlight on them for long enough to make an impression since part 2 began. Lee's dismissal is the only one of them that has really impacted the story. He needed to be rewarded for his struggles in the eyes of the readers. The readers haven't been shown that in a satisfactory way, and it seems like we never will.
The audience can root for a guy that works hard and struggles. And even Naruto DOES have training arcs, and had trouble early on… its when they get an instant powerup that isn't earned, like sage mode... (Or sharingan transformations) is when it feels cheap and weird. Kishi was so capable of creating likeable characters that we wanted to follow through to the end, want to see win, that even now, though its been hundreds of chapters since his last fight, we STILL want to see Lee in battle, STILL want to see him at his "hokage level potential... even if for just an instant."
Sage mode wasn't an instant powerup. In terms of story time we don't really know how long it took him to learn to balance the energy. In terms of chapter time it took over 20 chapters I believe. Compare that to what he went through in part 1 to form his frog contract in the first place, in which the entire layover only lasted 10 chapters.
I believe you're mistaken about the eye transformations. The transformations themselves really aren't that bad. It's not as if we get a lot of detailed progression updates on any other characters not named Naruto. It's something OP does all the time. The problem with the eye techniques is simply the execution which makes them seem cheap. It can quickly turn into a long string of "I knew you were going to do that" and "but I knew that you knew that I knew that you knew that I was going to do that". The illusions could also stand to be more visually impressive. But the abilities that the eyes are capable of would be the same whether the eyes were the source of the power or not.
And, most of the chunin exam kids were like that. Lee is the biggest most obvious example, but almost all the characters in that arc were embued with personality and unique abilities, hopes and dreams and quirks. And we saw more of that in the follow up arc when a handful of them went after Sasuke.
Even if Kishi isn't downright contradicting the hard work theme… it sure feels like it when he ignored all the characters that were training so hard before, and when ultimately they all say "yeah, we'd just get in the way." All these guys were Naruto's peers once, capable of handling elite agents of Orochimaru, all capable of growth and becoming great, and with interesting personalities... and that's what's been abandoned.
Kishimoto hit a wall when Naruto attained kage level strength. It wouldn't be believable to have the rest of them fight on that level. He still should have written in something for them to achieve, but it feels like he's been rushing through the arcs a bit.
So its a dual problem. We aren't seeing those kids anymore, and all the work and effort and empathy they earned during the chunin exams, just feels completely squandered. Especially since in all of part 2, Kishi hasn't made anyone nearly as interesting to replace that cast, no one else we can root for or like in quite the same way.
The lightning ninja and the Tsuchikage are awesome, and even a dead Itachi makes for an impressive ally. It's too late in the game to put a side character through the kind of humanization that Lee got in part 1.
The Raiton armor went away after the attack through. His body tanked it just like it tanked Mubai teleportation. His body is what the 3rd Raikage was known for. The Chidori the Raikage use is far superior to Kakashi's. Just because wind has a advantage on lightning doesn't mean it can beat a higher level lightning attack. The 3rd Raikage spear is stronger then RS. Minato being the creator is a invalid point. What does him creating it mean?
http://www.mangareader.net/naruto/553/11
It says plain as day from someone in the lightning village that he can only be damaged by long range wind attacks. So shut up. As it turns out, not even the strongest wind attack we've seen in the entire damn series can even scratch him. And it would be ridiculous if someone crapped out a more powerful one since rasenshuriken is based on the highest level shape manipulation possible.
No, he didn't always have a mancrush on him. He had a rivalry with and some sense of respect for him, but not a mancrush. The thing is, this whole obsession Naruto has with Sasuke comes off as so awkward because I never got the sense that they were really friends. Every time they interacted, Sasuke was always insulting and looking down on him and Naruto responded with agitation. Yes, there were moments like the end of the Haku fight, but again, that was more of protecting-a-fellow-soldier kind of thing. They were comrades-in-arms at best.
Naruto did kiss him right at the beginning of the series "on accident". A rivarly can really only be called that if there's competition. Sasuke crushed an humiliated Naruto in everything they did. Yet Naruto was absolutely obsessed with him from the get go. It was an ambiguous obsession and there was no reason to assume mancrush at the time. But reading the chapters in hindsight have a different feel. And the flashbacks of Naruto's obsessions of Sasuke didn't come up until later, but they were still in part 1.
It made her look like a completely worthless and ineffectual character. Every single development for her character and her actions in that arc were godawful.
That's entirely subjective. I didn't like all of her actions in that arc. But I understood and empathized with them. I thought she was a better character than Naruto and Sasuke were.
It's gonna take something really amazing for Kishi to make me like Sasuke again. And even if he does, it won't change my view of him these last 300 chapters.
The last 300 chapters are irrelevant to the point. Which is that you feel so much animosity towards a development that hasn't even happened yet that even if the chapters were written and executed well you'd still hate it. You've already decided that.
Did you doubt it? Seems like all Kishi's doing is confusing the audience, which isn't a good thing.
I began to doubt that it would ever be addressed. It never confused me, that's for damn sure.
Are all of them not told of their lineage and treated as commoners? And do they all become orphans when they're infants?
The only thing "all of them" have in common is that their parents are dead or missing. And there was a purpose to it. If nobody knows his lineage, he's less likely to become a target. Hosts were a cursed existence forever. The hokage tried a new approach to try and minimize that curse. It didn't work but it wasn't a terrible idea. Hindsight is 20/20 but foresight is not.
Not what I was talking about.
I'd decode it myself but it's a busy weekend and I have too many people to respond to. Why don't you enlighten me.
Because why would they let this powerful asset loose to be ridiculed and fend for himself and not make really damn sure that nothing goes wrong with him?
Do you want them to lock him in a cage? Sheltering a child results only in a sheltered child. Not one who's strong enough both physically and mentally to change the world.
Was it stated that other villages use Jinchuurikis to create a power balance. Gaara doesn't count since he too was an exception.
It wasn't stated that they didn't. Does every single development need to occur in part 1? Can't anything be saved for part 2? It seems like you're knocking every part 2 development for not being done earlier.
I'm not saying it's unanimous, I'm just saying there some people on this site who don't have One Piece as their favorite. I know some people have stated they like HxH more than One Piece.
What the hell does majority mean to you?
Who are these people?
Obviously they're not people I got to know on this forum. I don't know what you're expecting.
Mustard you seem ass hurt. The obviously bad Naruto which sells less than the the glorious one piece is being nothing to get so angry about. I didn't contradict my self i'm saying they down played the Thirds intelligence to make it an easy victory for Naruto. Not only does it not make since for the third to just stand there and let Naruto counter without trying to avoid it. Though for him to keep spaming the same attack which is his only weakness. What happened to using your brain.
I mean of course it was PIS that naruto dumbass even asked about the scar but if the third was anymore telegraphed naruto would have received a letter of his next move in the mail. I mean he was basically a foward movin machine using the same technique over and over again. There's no fight anymore(unless sasuke is involved), it's more of a what easily avoidable trap will the zombies fall into next game.
What kind of brain synapses have to fire for you to come to the conclusion that I'm asshurt? Jesus you have no idea what I've posted several times over. I've said that One Piece is better written EVERY SINGLE TIME it has come up. Learn to read FFS. I'm just not naive enough to believe that everything Naruto does is wrong while everything OP does is right. They do a lot of the same things.
Then again, it's obvious you can't read. The third was being controlled by Kabuto rather than making his own decisions. Kabuto wouldn't have any clue that it was his only weakness. It was also his strongest weapon. Kabuto was only stalling for time and he had absolutely no reason not to continue putting pressure on with it. And the only reason Naruto had the speed and precision to pull it off is because he went into Sage Mode which Kabuto also didn't know about.
And the fact that the raikage lost an arm is still idiotic. So what the cost is huge, he's fighting sasuke who invaded their meeting. Garra pulled an idiotic move, they could have weakened sasuke considerable and taken him into custody. Though that's not what they did. What did he do again?? He cried.
And it would have lead to a huge bloody war between the leaf and lightning villages. This was told to us straight up several times over. And all this while they're supposed to be trying to stop Madara.
So when will Nardo fight Madara and bring Sasuke back?
I would really love to see the rivalry between lee and garaa continue in the real …... I just can't bring myself to say it, these two chapters were far better then the whole years worth of Naruto
So much stuff…

I think Kishi messed up because the rest of the chapters implies his body is too strong and the only thing could hurt him was Fuuton. I don't understand how Dodai even knows what can hurt him when Kishi is implying his body is way too tough even a bijuu couldn't hurt him http://www.mangareader.net/naruto/554/14 He also shown him regenerating froma Fuuton attack a couple of chapters before that. So I think Kishi just wasn't portraying his ability right. Don't tell me to shut up dumbass
The Rock Lee manga is seriously better than anything Naruto has done in part 2. This isn't some sort of haha Naruto can't beat some childish spinoff sort of a thing, but a serious statement. That Gaara chapter alone contains more character development than all of part 2 Naruto. It really does make me yearn for the days of Naruto when there were characters.
It is weird how a lot of the character interactions in Springtime is what Naruto part 2 was lacking. And it also portrayed what people wanted to see happen. Gaara and Rock Lee making up, or having an understanding, Tenten having goals, Neji being a dip every now and then. Reading Springtime is kinda like having this epiphany. You knew something felt off in Naruto, springtime shows you what it was in a silly way.
That Gaara chapter alone contains more character development than all of part 2 Naruto. I
Hey, Shikimaru had an arc where he had some development. And Sai, uhm… had a revelation. There's been SOME development in part 2.
Just not a whole lot given how many chapters its been.
Oh, and Kyuubi has turned out to be a nice guy after all! (sigh)

This Kenji Taira fellow.. how does he manage to accomplish all this early Naruto level development and humor?
It's a good thing he's going monthly now instead of quarterly.
So Kubo saves all the Fullbringers minus Ginjou…..... Well, I´m kinda happy with Mr Lucky and Tsukishima friendship part, put to realize that Pride is still alive..nausea..
About Naruto, by the spoilers, it´s a fast chapter, nothing memorable happens. The funny thing is that a Bleach spoiler is quite short, and it can summarize everything that happens in the chapter, while a Naruto spoiler have more things to see/discover later on.

Why am I not surprised about this. . .
Wait, the Kyuubi's name is Kurama? But I thought Bleach was the YuYuHakusho ripoff?
Biju´s have names ?…..
And if that´s the most important part of all chapter, we can see how bad this chapter is.

Sooooo…..Rirurka ?
Huh. Well, let's see if Kubo will immediately forget or actualy atempt to do something with this.
So, Kubo troll us to think that we would have a flashback in this chapter.
EDIT: I will do my review in the 30th day, so nice.
Tsukishima? Who?
The summary of this arc.
Everyone but Ginjou are alive.
Did they sew pieces of Giriko back together?
Tsundere Kyuubi's name is Kurama.
In a bonding moment betwen the master and the pet, Naruto makes a nametag for the little chihuahua.
Well, look at the bright side, now Kubo can use the remaining fullbringers as side characters….HÁ.
The summary of this arc.
Did they sew pieces of Giriko back together?
I was gonna mention that, but meh, I'm more surprised by Jackie. I take it we won't ever get a proper explanation for how she's alive ?
Biju´s have names ?…..
And if that´s the most important part of all chapter, we can see how bad this chapter is.
Not just ordinary names but tsundere names
Did kishi want to turn this manga into romantic love comedy?
First,Friend with kyuubi, next step, ….
Jackie was defeated off screen, but Giriko..we saw him explode/turn to pieces/inkblot.
So Ginjou dies in 15 pages and Tsukishima now have a friend and leave to nowhere.
Enjoyable chapter, loled at the son goku reference.
@RobbyBevard:
Wait, the Kyuubi's name is Kurama? But I thought Bleach was the YuYuHakusho ripoff?
What do you think of kyuubi's name?
I think Togashi's gonna sue somebody.

@No:
I was gonna mention that, but meh, I'm more surprised by Jackie. I take it we won't ever get a proper explanation for how she's alive ?
Jackie just exploded. Explosions don't hurt anyone in shon-
@The:
The worst. Possibly, the very worst yet.
Kubo: Right, it's time for the Ginjo flashback! Time to finally show his past, reveal his motivation and goals!

Oh, Kubo. Come on, it can't be THAT vague of a chapter, right?
…Right?
Son Goku said that Kyuubi's name is Kurama. This sounds like a bad crossover tbh. xD
This Naruto chapter isn't dull in any way. Instead, it is almost hilariously bad.
Giant monkey swallows Naruto, and he teleports to its inner space bondage room. And we continue with the next episode of forced unappreciated tailed beast drama. By this point, it all feels so late and just shoehorned in for the sake of completness, as if Kishimoto was trying to brash it off all like "You see, I got it covered, go away, leave me all alone!!1"
I guess, it's not hilariously bad. It's more of simply sad.
At least one thing is left consistent. Only Kakashi has to care about chakra in this universe.
Bleach(spoilers):So nothing about the flashback? Are we getting just that panel? The chapter …looks like regular bleach.
Naruto(chapter):I was confused at first were they were since there isnt any background,so instead of cage its few rocks plus chains thats what keeps this bijuu sealed right?Seems a bit weak to me,although how did naruto enter? should be the controler(the old man) that has to let naruto in is subsconsious zone or whatever this is?
Anyway meh chapter, still prefer more Rock lee springtime of youth.
Edit: i reread it,its seems because naruto has the kyuubi he can waltz in at will.
Biju´s have names ?…..
And if that´s the most important part of all chapter, we can see how bad this chapter is.
Ichibi has had a name since he was introduced. It was Shukaku..
Bleach spoilers:
! Everyone but Ginjou are alive.
! Riruka wakes up in Urahara's store
Inoue cries from joy
Riruka: What do you feel about Tsukishima?
Inoue: Tsukishima? Who?
! Tsukishima meets Shishigawara in the forest
He cries about Ginjou's death.
! Jackie meets Yukio.
! Over at Urahara's
Ichigo: "I looked for others, but could find only you, Riruka."
! Tsukishima caries Shishigawara
! "I'm not alone"
Kubo, you cannot be serious.
Oh man, it was a bad idea to read the hiliarous Rock Lee chapters first. Now for the actual Naruto….
EDIT: The Nine-Tails is called Kurama and the Four-Tails is called Son Goku? That's....unexpected. The page with Gai and Kakashi attacking was pretty cool, but the whole chapter was just.......wonky with Naruto stirring up another one of his speeches.
Can Kishi just unmask Tobi already?
Ichibi has had a name since he was introduced. It was Shukaku..
you all must pay attention to this post before insulting Kishimoto.
Bijuus with names is foreshadowed stuff and not an asspull
I'm more frustrated about this whole "LOL FRIENDSHIPXDDDD" stuff again. Them tsundere bijuus…
^^Nobody said it was an asspull, though.
but some already started ironizing on the fact it is said they have.
I just wanted to stop the sh*tstorm before it started
So the Nine Tails finally gets a name could have been better but I guess Kurama works

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
To be fair, Kurama is a mountian in Japan, and in myth its the home of Sōjōbō, King of the Tengu, and tengu tend to be disruptive demons and harbingers of war.. And Kurama is one of the most famous tengu.
Not quite sure why it keeps getting thrown onto foxes instead of birds, however.
By the end of the manga humans and Bijuu will live together in harmony. There'll be no hate, only tree hugging shinobi hippies.
