wrong Honestly, I challenge the ap community to find something worse than this. I actually think Its impossible.
Damn, this is horrible. Who calls it music anyway? And where's the tune?

the second highest rated comment perfectly shows how i feel about that song
btw what genre is the music from akon and usher and such? thats music i really cant stand
I never said it lacked the diversity, just that it lacked the cohesion.
Well then it's all the more ridiculous that it's an option in the poll.
@metteminne:

I say it fits into Pop or Hip-Hop.
Really?
Okay, it's Pop then.

Usher's latest album is classified by iTunes as "R&B/Soul".
Same with Akon's latest album.

The same genre as stuff like Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye, soul/R&b.
Hip-hop and Rap.
Don't get me wrong, I've heard good songs from both genres and have a healthy amount of respect for those who use them effectively. However I simply can't handle hearing most of the beats these two genre's produce. Said beats are pretty much an instant headache wrapped neatly in a sound-wave, charging towards my poor abused cranium at lightning speed.
If I didn't have that problem, I'd probably be open to listening to some of them more often. As it stands however I avoid both like the plague.

Post some examples of which ones irritate you.
Odds are with this past decade that you wouldn't honestly have to worry whatsoever about hearing the kinds of beats I'm thinking of to hear the meats and potatoes of the genre from any of it's eras. Including the past decade.
I'm guessing you're talking about Crunk.
Or garbage like this.
-Jy4jv5PSa4
But maybe it is actually a basic sound to the genre in which case there's not much I can do for you.
A pretty basic sounding hip-hop beat is like this.
2Tx3yJxb9Vs
I can't stand hip-hop music. Absolutely hate it and I've never had the spark from it that I get from any other genre. To me, personally I can't really define what people find musically satisfying in it.
There, that's reasonable. It's good because there's actually the basis for fans to explain how they feel what they feel.
It's pretty much what I asked about Death Metal.
What exactly baffles you? The looping beats? The lack of melody generally speaking? The gigantically rhythmic focus? The sampling? The image? The lingo?
Then why the fuck did you say "drop it?"
Dropping a dead end line of thought that you were seemingly refusing to let go of is very different from what that was referring to.
I didn't want you to stop talking, I wanted you to actually discuss. There isn't any discussion from "not music".
To a degree, but at least I posted some examples. If after that they said that it wasn't for them then fine.
It's still defense. You don't actually think I expect to fully convert all people? I mean look at Cuddles, I expect that he can enjoy mellow hip-hop easily. I hold little hope for him ever getting into hardcore stuff and that's fine.
Apart from I admitted to being wrong about the instrumental hip-hop stuff and gave my comments. Even so, you can't just magically expect me to love the genre in three youtube clips. I suppose your a huge death-metal fan now after Wagomu left you that eye opening post back on page 3.
When did I expect you to be a fan in any sense?
I'm asking for the very least here, acknowledgement of legitimacy.
This "shit" as you put it isn't always the best way to come across in these situations. I could easily just be pushed further from stuff like this, thinking "oh, god damn. If this is is the kind of music that a pretentious, stuck up, condescending asshole like HIM listens to then I really don't want to be a part of it."
I highly doubt you or anyone is going to think of a hip-hop fan as pretentious stuck up elitist or what have you.
I'm not saying that but I could easily see people thinking it. You do have one hell of a superiority complex and that should be evident enough to anyone who has read any number of your posts.
Yes because I'm defending myself here.
Of course. Still, I honestly wonder about how much you would have let it all slip by if I hadn't ratted on the genre which you represent. To say that hip-hop wasn't music is just as bad as some people saying that Jazz was boring, blues was dull or metal was all screaming and shouting.
No it's not at all. Incomparable.
Notice how I'm not at all bothered by you saying you don't get the musical appeal of it.
Here I'll have a go at it.
Lots of gangsta rap is laughably dumb and juvenile in the same way as lots of death metal is.
Just replace random stupid references of pimping and gats with random stupid references to guts and satan.
So just because I don't like hip hop I'm not open minded enough to enjoy, classical (all periods), world, folk, jazz, blues, funk, soul, rock, minimalism, rock, electronic, punk. Even if I don't have much of a feeling towards hip-hop, my minds more open than it is closed. Don't assume you know everything about me from just a few stupid posts which I worded fairly badly.
Everything I said was based around you denial of it as MUSIC. Not disliking it.
Never said that. Never said anything to that degree. Really, stop looking for a fight.
That's what saying it's not music is. Now considering your rewording this changes things, but don't think for a second that there isn't a precedent of people constantly making that accusation NOT out of rewording but out of genuinely feeling that way.
I know a lot about metal and all of it's sub-genres but honestly, I'd never be big headed enough to call myself an expert on it. To be fair I think that only Wagomu is capable of being referred to as anything close to an expert around these parts.
I've listened to 70 hip hop albums for every year between 1988 and 2009. And a big bunch from 1979-1987, and 50 for 2010.
You can call yourself an expert when large parts of your knowledge were painful to gain.
Let me put it this way, 1989 has only around 10 albums a casual fan needs to ever hear in rap. 10 more that a basic fan would want. 20 more a diehard would care about. The other 30…. that's where a man becomes a man. And also bored out of their fucking skull in being able to tell you that The Fat Boys released yet another shitty album after the past two shitty albums.
Look, I've admitted I was wrong and that I'd worded shit really badly. I'd much rather start over from scratch rather than argue this into oblivion. Show me what I'm missing rather than just ranting for the sake of it. What should I be listening for? What constitutes good hip-hop to you? Like most people against extreme metals, I honestly don't know how to listen to it. Please tell me.
The questions I asked near the top are a good place for me to get a feel for what things I need to address.
ok thanks you guys
but i won't vote for soul cause i like the music of people liek barry white , james brown, alica keys and such
guess i just don't like some of them

Mr Sympathy X in your professional opinion as an Expert Identifier, I was wondering if you could help me in my ways
You see I want people to think of me as an expert, but I can't find a way to cram my dissertation on the reach of psychedelic music into my signature
I was also worried that it would seem to specialized and narrow like I'm only into one kind of thing, so do you think I should just change my avatar to a Henry Cow album cover instead?
I appreciate your help, thank you in advance
Telling a man whose listened to a Master P double album in order to gain more knowledge not an expert is like denying a quadruple amputee Vietnam soldier his title as a veteran.
Except it's worse.

I'm not an expert. Just a big fan who thinks he can offer some occasional insight. You're definitely the real deal.

Oh god, don't get me started on Cannibal Corpse.
Hard to pick one you really don't like. But i guess Jazz is the genre i've had the hardest time getting into.
What sort of jazz have you listened to?
No idea what kind of jazz it was, but i had some Duke Ellington and Coltrane given to me by some buds who said if you don't like this you're never gonna like Jazz so yeah.
Other than that i've been taken to a local jazz club where they did their own thing, nice atmosphre, the music not as good nice.
And if swing counts as jazz then Benny Goodman as well.
Swing most definitely counts, but then I'm surprised you aren't an Ellington fan (unless you, by chance, heard something more unusual for the man like Money Jungle. Have you given bebop or cool jazz a chance?

Otherwise I can only offer the little sampler I made earlier. I don't want to force anything on you, but I find jazz to be one of the most beautiful and passionate genres out there (well, all genres have a lot of that, but it's most evident and raw in jazz) and think it would be a shame for you to give up after so little exposure.
I definitley liked that Miles Davis one, was alot more fastpaced than what i had heard before. Was that bebop?
I'm not an expert. Just a big fan who thinks he can offer some occasional insight. You're definitely the real deal.
naah, no less on a simple level a fan of music than you.
I was just being a goofball to sympathy x
not really saying anything
To be perfectly honest, I don't care what genre the music is as long as it either gets me moving, keeps me relaxed, or just gets me grooving. But if I had to choose, I'd go with Folk/World music or Kids music (like that fucking Kidz bop shit).
I really like to listen to folk. It's pretty straightforward and is usually pretty relaxing.
J-pop, J-rock, anything that the anime club watches and considers music.
can somebody post some famous folk/world music please?
"Guy Witta Gitaah" Folk is my favorite of the broad genres listed in the poll.
But famous pieces of it aren't a hard thing to find. Just listen to "The Times They Are A-Changin'" by Bob Dylan, Tim Hardin's "Tim Hardin 2", Donovan's "Sunshine Superman", or any other mainstream album affirmed to be a classic by Rolling Stone's circlejerk and you're getting some semblance of foundation and it will probably scratch the vague itch you have going.
P.S. I hate the classifier "world music" because it offensively dicks actual ethnic and traditional folk music into this catchall category for English speaking derpbags who think bongo drums and a rhythmically bobbing black smiling face are a fun exotic novelty.
Not to mention I don't really know what you're asking by requesting world music period. Like, world music is the section a United States library sticks every international artist into, not an actual genre. Maybe you could give a country, or region instead?
J-pop, J-rock, anything that the anime club watches and considers music.
you like anime, yet you don't like ANY music associated with it, even with the wide diversity of it? (not trying to mock you I just find it an interesting opinion)

The anime club in the college scarred me for life. Instead of doing any other club activities, they would spend over two hours looking at random music videos that sound exactly the same every time with different props in each. I never endured that much torture since I was forced to listen to the same 4 songs repeat on BET for a whole day(I was at this girl's house doing my hair).
While that's behind me, I'll probably never dare to look into the genre myself. I figured I keep it reserved for BGMs in animated series.
It's understandable. While music featured in anime can be good, things like openings and endings are more often than not all about marketing bands and basically advertisements. It's all usually pop music and the pop rock by cookie cutter artists which, taken from context, can usually be pretty lame and cheesy, if not bad to begin with.
You get good bands and good musicians doing work too, but more often than not it's just pure marketing from big companies.
i can totally understand that. and that's fine. it's not all bubbly j-pop but, eh, I know you just wanna leave it alone. I don't feel like looking into genres I'm just not into, even if others here insist there's something I'd like. probably, but I don't care. thanks for answering my question. :)

Bob Dylan ring any bells?
And I don't know about famous but this owns like hell.

I agree, it's folk music as much as English and American folk.
I would have left it as just plain "folk" but then people wouldn't have known I meant folk music from anywhere and not just assholes on banjos and acoustic guitars.
The only J-POP band I like (which isn't even really J-POP, they sing in English too, not just random words in the middle of verses, and play Indie rock as well) made a song for some relatively unknown anime. The song is called Fast Forward, and sounds nothing like what they usually play. It sounds like generic bubbly J-POP shit and you wouldn't want to hear more from that band, but it's really their only bad song
Oh, and that Mongolian song thing was fucking cool
That's some damn awesome weird-lap-banjo-thing playing skills.

There's music associated with anime that sounds like actual music you might hear without caring about anime (like me).
Yoko Kano, anything directed by Shinichiro Watanabe, stuff with general soundtrack style orchestration. And even occasionally the pop (We Gotta Power!!).
Then there's stuff that exists in it's disgusting own little world that would never fly in any other context. And the people Hiroy describes only like or care about it as music in the fact that its associated with their usually shallow interests to whatever it's attached to. They don't actually give a fuck about music and scoring. Like Nerdcore fans they only listen to stuff they feel safe with, because it's part of animu and not some big scary non animation associated thing.
Which is also why they develop random interest in stuff like Daft Punk or MF DOOM, even though they never touch anything else in the genres of those guys.
They suck!!!!

Since we're apparently drifting to worldly music…

Something the Congo did right.
Isn't it kind of childish to say you hate an entire genre?
Honestly I like a little bit of everything, there are good example of everything out there.
I feel like saying you HATE one particular type of music just harks back to the not so good ol' days of Myspace - when people had answers like "o i listen to anything but cuntree and wrap, lol."
@JERK:

that's exactly what I was thinking when Hiroy said that. I like a lot of that stuff, but not cause "liek omg it's anime" I just happen to like it. I'm not opposed to other music if it's to my taste, I'm just not big into music in general.
hey, that makes me think, I got a few friends who like Bjork. Apparently she's popular…and I just don't see why. just a bunch of weird goofy noises to me. What genre is that anyways? (and no, you don't need to try and convince me to like her, I've already heard enough from my friends)
Cowboy Bebop's OST is sex .
It really is. Probably the best soundtrack ever. Let alone in anime.
I do not enjoy country at all but I can't say HATE.
The only thing I will turn off immediately if I came upon it on youtube etc, is friggen RAWR metal.. death metal, or whatever it's called.
Lyrics basically go something like:
"RawwrRAWRRAWR RAWR RRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWR"
I do admit I went through a weird rock phase in like.. grade 10. My fav band was System of a Down if you can consider them "metal", but I can't be bothered with them now. I also adored punk, pure raw punk. I don't enjoy the trashy repetitive kind anymore.
A unique love of mine is classical. I was one of those band geeks in the flute section through highschool, I definitely enjoyed it. I'm the kind to want to attend symphonies, hell I actually watched the entire Lord of the Rings Orchestra DVD. Two or three times.
Here's one for the Metallica fans:

What's wrong with pure raw punk?
-nlX7P0nhaI&showinfo=0
No no, Ramones and Sex Pistols are classics. I'm talking about…... hold on lemme get you an example. The trashy stuff.
tYYCO9UGn_I
Here we go. This was in a cd I made when I was in grade 10. On it has "Punk" written in the same font style as The Casualties in the vid, and I drew purple flames around the perimeter of the cd xD heheh.
I used to love THIS kind of punk in addition to the classic stuff :P and I've actually attended THOSE kinds of punk shows.
But I still say The Ramones are pure raw punk. Hardcore Punk is people consciously building off what they did.
Pretty much. Ramones and Sex Pistols are like the fathers of punk, although they had different styles. Ramones had more fun, bouncy, love songs, Sex Pistols were more political.
The unfortunate thing is that these guys among other bands established the basically three to four chord punk rock style which is easily imitated and abused. This gave birth to the trashy hardcore punk which anyone with a guitar can write, hence the multitude of crap punk bands with their same 3-chord songs and indecipherable screaming. Oh yeah, add screamo to that bastard list.
Hey, ho, let's go. Shoot 'em in the back now.
Wednesday Night Heroes is a decent modern punk band, as well as No Cash
And then there was the punk style done right:
[hide]Ob1lspc-Hfg[/hide]

Yeah yeah.. not same style, but it's Transplants, man.[/hide]
[hide]L87pXMhksIE
Punk/ska. These guys are from my hometown, they were good until they sold out and became emo.[/hide]
I wouldn't really credit the Sex Pistols with much aside from popularizing it in Britain and sort of setting a lot of the cliches. John Lydon was much more influential on Post-Punk then on vanilla punk.
The CBCGs scene was the father of punk.
And the godfathers were people like MC5, The New York Dolls, and The Stooges.
I was looking up random Russian music (mostly metal) and stumbled across this band, which is folk, and I like it a lot.
uImGPVsthzY
I can't say I really listen to punk much but I don't hate it.
