Make the polycules canon and then have the X-Men kill god and destroy capitalism.

Except for the infighting amongst certain members of the Quiet Council and certain characters doing their own thing that may or may not create problems down the road with others on the island like the stuff Beast is doing or Emma, Destiny, & Mystique being the cause of Moira losing her mutant powers etc.
have there own Island nation
Laughs in Utopia
As it is with comics you can’t have the heroes or the reformed villains enjoying good things for too long or at all. You gotta take that away because adversity builds character or some shit.
Even when in actuality you’re just rehashing the same shit you move been doing for years and may have been done better.

Blow up the island, they lose their immortality, the fight over whatever resource they have left and stop being united. Ain't hard.
Or just introduce Legacy Virus 2.0 or No More Mutant 2.0 or Terrigan Mists 2.0 or bring in Roma or a secret war or they fight alternate universe versions or Magneto goes nuts again and does a bad bad thing, and just screw the whole population over again by adding drama with killing off a bunch of C-tier mutants to raise the stakes..
it'll be super easy to undo and revert to the 1970's status quo where its just some combination of Wolverine, Storm, Cyclops, Colossus, Nightcrawler, Kitty, one lady telepath, possibly Gambit and Rogue (but you have to have both, you can't have just one) and 1-3 random writer favorites or original creations that the audience doesn't care about.
In case of emergency, split that roster in half and make them a different team in Britain or soemthing.
Any leftover kids can go form their own new generation team with a girl in it that can shoot light sparkles.
Fix Moira and Beast though. They're gonna need some serious evil twin brainwashed logic to explain their stupid stupid evil turns. ... and they even brought in Dark Beast explicitly to dispel the idea that it might be Dark Beast.
-
I'm kinda offended how you broke down X-men to it's bare essentials.
Alas, it's true. There already around 400 Krakoa era X-titles published, I don't expect it will last another 400. -
If I hadn't personally lived through like 6 of those while I was still reading the books it might be less of a thing. But it HAS been a few years since I last actually bought and read one so I dunno.
I mean, they can also Age of Apocalypse or House of M it. Just completely delete the current reality for a few months and then come back to an all new all different status quo.
It's really weird how they've had Dazzler, Boom Boom, AND Jubilee for the 70's, 80's and 90's and we didn't get a new one in the last 20 years. I guess maybe Jubilee became too well known with the cartoon to repeat.
-
Beast's radicalization has been going on for 20 years so I wouldn't change a thing about that (one of the few characters who had a multi-year character arc that stuck). Yes, it's tragic but there aren't many fallen hero characters in comics. And Beast's niche is done better by Nightcrawler anyway.
Moira I will infinitely be mad about though, since Hickman made her a really complicated character and then they turned her into a cackling robot villain to ensure that Mystique and Destiny win in the end and Krakoa, originally intended to be very messy, turns out to be Paradise Island.
This is pretty much the problem with the current X-books which is the opposite of what the usual problem was with the X-books (yes, we can never be happy). There is ZERO conflict. Mutants have immortality? No worries, we've created a company that resurrects humans who died of tragic causes too. You have to partake into a violent battle to get your mutant powers back? No worries, Wanda Maximoff created a magical waiting room that can bring back any character from past, present and future. Even Thunderbird is back now! Oh, kids were indoctrinated to hate Wanda? No worries, her act of selflessness made her one of Krakoa's most beloved heroes. Traditional heroes have to govern together with traditional heroes? No worries, in their heart of hearts it turned out every villain wanted to be a hero anyway. And so on and so on.
And because there's no book that really wants to explore Krakoa (even the government book is just an annoying Sinister solo. Classic IGN awarding that the book of the year), it just feels like they're back in the school, except it's in the jungle now. And there's no drama or conflict. So yes, it would be very easy to blow Krakoa up because all the revolutionary change has been sucked out already.

They've had Pixie, who is sparkle-adjacent.
-
I'm not sure at exactly what point I stopped reading. I was definitely around for Civil War in 2006 and World War Hulk, I think One More Day was my general off ramp for Marvel in general.
Beast was... not like this when I left off. But if they've been building to it all this time then okay.
First time I learned of him being super nasty was... here a few weeks ago so that was really out of nowhere to me.

You know what, she's close enough, I'll count it.
Even she was almost 20 years ago though, we're due for a new one.

IGN gave Immortal best book of the year? It's not even the best running X-book.
-
I need a break from regular books so I think I’m gonna get up to date on the current X-Men stuff
-
Personally they should just keep the Immortality aspect for the X-Men you already have been making the concept of death moot in comics for decades anyway.
-
I’m confused on X-Men year 1000 they start of by showing that mutant they captured in year 100, but Moria died right after they captured her by wolverine stabbing her after they got the plans for nimrod
and that happened in her tenth life, her sixth life is where she lives past that
so did she just do the exact same steps in her tenth life as she did in her sixth life, except end it much sooner?
I just think it would have made more sense to switch her sixth life with her tenth life

She doesnt get the data crystals in 6. She is just doing the usual not dying when human when humans attack. She's still under the belief mutants will someday inherit the earth.
The end of 6 is what makes her realize mutants are fucked because humans will never mutant become the next step thanks to the help of robotics.
Then the lives after are her trying to get rid of it with 7-8 being brute force(killing trask, working with Magneto) and 9 being data gathering(getting nimrod info).

Last Weekly X of the Year.
By the way I'm also not following Dark Web, but for fucks sake can't you guys do anything with Madelyn besides going evil cray-cray?Strange Academy:Oh boy - daddy-son-(ex?)girlfrend meeting incoming.

Action Comics #1050:
Fuck, I need to catch up on X-Terminators. Boom-Boom is the fucking best.

Gotta let a new creative team do the same old shit with them that’s no different or no better than what some other writer already did with them.
Can’t wait til Norman Osborne goes back to being the Green Goblin and trolling Peter for the lulz.

Is there a list of how many named mutants live on Kraokoa? Is it like hundreds?
-
Presumably nowhere near as many as Genosha.
-
@Shiebs said in Western Comics thread:

Something official? No. Except the Arakko has 4 times the population of Krakoa.
Unofficially? Marvel wikia list people living in Krakoa - I guess based on panel appearence. -
I think 400k was stated in House of X.
Edit: AXE #1 states it's 200k.

Action Comics #1051: still should have been a new #1. These old men and their obsession with maintaining the high numbers despite different continuities is annoying.

Question, I never read any New Mutants comics before the current era (Jonathan Hickman’s run), so I was wondering who you guys consider the core members of the team, the essential members that is
Like I’m pretty sure from what I’ve seen and heard about the original series that Sunspot and Canonball are… but what about characters like Magma, Wofsbane and Boom Boom?
Obviously very Subjective but I was wondering your guys opinions
-

Sam, Roberto, Dani, Rahne, Xuan, Magik, Dougie+Warlock.
-
@pariston_hill awesome thank you for the list
-
Sins of Sinister looks interesting, but it's also a sure shot way to get tired of the character. Even with the character being written way entertaining compared to his Mutant Massacre/Inferno days.
X-Terminators was great. Hope to see more of that.

I'd argue it's not even subjective that this is the core team.
-
@Kaiolino oh cool, thank you
-
What Kaiolino said but at this point I do really like Boom Boom lol.
X-Terminators made me go from thinking she was decently cool to loving her.
-
Boom Boom works fine in this kinda of settings. Like a bad bitch.
If I recall she was characterized similarly in Evolution. -
Do you guys think this will go down as one of the best X-Men runs of all time?
-
No. Too much back and forth between good plot lines and lame ones, lack of character focus, interesting ideas left not utilized or butchered.
Still beats the time the X-men got written off in favour of the Inhumans. -
Interesting I was under the impression everyone here loved this run
What would you put as the best X-Men runs in your opinion?
-
Even as someone who doesn’t read comic books or closely follow the discourse around them.
I can tell you upfront this run has been divisive I know in particular not everyone liked the idea of Moira being a mutant or her turning evil at the end of Inferno.
Then you got the shit with Beast.
-
@Shiebs Claremont's run. With it's flaws and all.
-
@Time-Control-Magician Moira as a mutant can work, specially with how it was portrait in House/Powers. But someone on the editorial/writing team really hates her for the crappy heel turn.
And Beast, well, he's been consistently written as a victim of his on hubris. This point is kind of a logical progression of it. Don't make him less of a dick though.
-
Beast is one of the rare characters with a multi-year, multi-writer character arc. You could see the seeds for current Beast as far back as the late ‘90s when he couldn’t solve the legacy virus. The hubris is there, the inability to deal with failure is there, his isolation is there.
People who are mad about Beast are almost exclusively cartoon watchers and haven’t opened a comic since Age of Apocalypse.
-
Everyday I shake my head that the Claremont era isn't available in properly numbered paperback volumes.
-
@JulieYBM there's the Uncanny X-men Masterworks, that kinda are a compendium of Claremont's run. But since I only have less than official copies of it I have no idea it they are available as TPB or Hardcovers.

If memory serves they're out of print. :|

Good that I only have the pirate digital version of it. -

@JulieYBM no doubt, having a in reading order Claremont collection in your bookshelf would be amazing. Alas, don't have the space, the money or the viability to get them or so it seems.
-
I’m surprised they don’t have that on Marvel Unlimited, seems like something they definitely should have

Yeah, lol, I'm currently in no position to buy any hobby stuff.
-
That's kind of a lazy composition as I'm sure there were at least one Hellboy volume with it. -
