The Artist Les McClaine does a webcomic (http://jonnycrossbones.com/) I read so I'm really excited about this.
Barnes & Noble.com have a lot of the Marvel Books in their Bargin bin sale right now.
I'm picking up a copy of Young Avengers Volume 2 (Hardcover) for $6.28. And I'm asking my mom to also get me Young Avengers Vol. 1 and Runaways Vol. 1 for X-mas.
Since I read their Marvel Civil War arc book and enjoy both teams. ^_^.
I posted this int he wwe thread
WWE comics announced
http://www.gerweck.net/news/1259694453.shtml
Also, Im reading a Manga Marvel comic called Runaways.
very confusing
^ I have also read Runaways for a while too and it really is kind of confusing. Just when Iron Man find them something diff happen in the beginning of the next vol
Also, I finished the rest of nightfall…it was really awesome (especially when I haven't read a DC comic for a while now)
I got my copy of Young Avengers Vol. 2 (Hardcover). It was a great read through and I really like the charcters and I really dig the artwork from the Speical chapter.
I'm getting Young Avengers Vol. 1 and Runaways Vol. 1 as well Astonshing X-Men Vol. 4, She-Hulk Vol. 1, and X-Men: Wolverene and Kitty Pryde (Hardcover) for Christmas.
I got a real quick question about the Young Avengers, what is their next storyline after Vol. 1 and Vol. 2? Since I already own the Young Avengers and Runaways crossover from the Civil War storyline.
Dark Avengers annual was very good..
and the last page was VERY GOOD.
! Quite possibly, the biggest hint that Steve will no longer be Cap, but rather take on a Fury position, with Bucky holding onto the shield. Nor Valh loooks cool in the new threads, but kind of fat.. i guess its a space suit.
I just read some of the Spoilers for S.W.O.R.D. # 1.
! Kitty is still alive inside the bullet from Breakworld from Astonishing X-Men Vol. 4 and its harden over the time making harder to break open. Its probably just me, but I have a feeling soon they are going to go and rescure her soon.
! It's always been assumed that Whedon put her in there so that nobody else could do anything with her until he came back to the book.
has anybody read Usagi Yojimbo? Its an American comic about a rabbit samurai and I wounder if its any good. Opinions?
^ I heard it was pretty good though I haven't read it myself.
I'm getting the rest of the volumes of Preacher that I don't have, volumes 1-5 of Transmetropolitan, and the first of the Absolute Sandman volumes for Christmas .
Edit: Almost forgot. I've been reading a series called 100 Bullets and it's really good.
Well I'm getting one more book for X-mas, and that book is She-Hulk Volume 3. ^^. I'm not doing bad for my first year of collecting Marvel Books. Since I'm going to aleast have 12 books, which isn't bad in my opinion. ^^.
Yup, that's exactly what you think it is.
Is that captain Fourth Wall?
Yup, Mr. Retcon Punch himself!
Im reading alot right now
Blue Beetle (road trip,Shellshocked)
Starman

Shazam- the monster society of evil
Ultimate spiderman 18- Knights

Yup, that's exactly what you think it is.
My buddy was telling me about this, that is amazing.
I read Endangered Species and I was disappointed since I thought Beast will for sure do somthing about it…I wonder though, is there a What If Comic where it M Day never happened?
I was browsing the comics section in Waldenbooks (they call them "Graphic Novels" :getlost: ) and saw some Discworld comics. I flipped through them and they looked pretty cool. Has anyone read them? Do they do the books justice?
who here have read dark reign and is it any good?
Also, anyone heard about it yet: http://marvel.com/comics/siege
There have been some good titles come out of Dark reign but there is so such shit tied into it, you feel swamped with all the stuff they've put out.
Titles you should read:
Dark Avengers
Invincible Iron-Man #8 onwards
Secret Warriors
I have heard Mighty Avengers is also a good read but I haven't been following it.
New avengers, while good in previous tie-ins has been pretty lackluster recently. It is picking up again alongside the release of New avengers Annual #3.
Dark Reign doesn't have a standalone title like Secret Invasion did so you just have to keep ducking in and out of titles to get the full picture. There are also tonnes of one-shot stuff they've put out. "The List" tie-ins being the biggest.
has anybody read Usagi Yojimbo? Its an American comic about a rabbit samurai and I wounder if its any good. Opinions?
It's very good. .
im reading
El corazon ( pirate graphic novel)
Captain gravity
Batman :child of dreams
Star wars:Jango Fett ( dont know who he is )
Read Hellblazer #262 today:
!
Lol.
I don't know if it has to do with me actually being Indian, but I'm really digging the India stuff. <3
Anyone have an opinion on the Discworld comic books?
Anyone read the most recent Green Lantern Corps (issue 43)?
Anyone read the most recent Green Lantern Corps (issue 43)?
Yeah and it solidified my hatred of Kyle and my love of Guy.
It's very good. .
Cosign, Usagi Yojimbo is a really fun comic series; the older stories still hold up to today.

Yeah, DR has been, to me at least, pretty enjoyable with most of the series. The ones you mentioned are the best IMO, though there are other good titles, but they may not appeal to everybody (I liked Bullseye and Lyra minis and the War Machine issues were good too)
So, 2009 is coming to a close, what were your top 5 (or 10…heck it doesn't have to be top 5/10, just your fav. this year) series and characters, etc.?
Here's mine, copy pasta-ed-
BEST NEW SERIES
BEST CONTINUING SERIES
BEST VILLIAN
BEST HERO
BEST WRITER
Best Cartoon
Fav. character overall by 2009
Most powerful character of 2009-
Yeah and it solidified my hatred of Kyle and my love of Guy.
Hahaha, awesome. I don't know if I hate Kyle Raynor but he definitely lost some brownie points after the epic ending of issue 42's impact was taken away so quickly. Guy Gardner and Hal will always be my favorites, they're attitudes are great.
Whatever hate Hal gets, I just chalk it up to the writer or editorial team. Likewise with Kyle.
Oddly enough I wanna see Kyle and Hal fanboys duke it out between themselves; I could sell tickets and make a quick buck of it >=3
Anyways I just finished reading the first 2 Immortal Iron Fist TPBs and it was fantastic. It kind of sped things up in the 2nd book, but overall an enjoyable read.
I do wish they didn't write the attack names in english because they sound so retarded; even if it was intentional.
^
Woah, didn't think I'd see you back here for a while. So what do you think about Blackest Night?
Guy Gardner and Hal will always be my favorites, they're attitudes are great.
Same. Out of the 4 Earth GLC members I rank them as such:
Hal
Guy
John
Kyle
I don't hate John but he is extremely boring. I guess we'll see what GJ does for him in the next issue of GL (next week).
^
Woah, didn't think I'd see you back here for a while. So what do you think about Blackest Night?
Enjoying it so far!
I have a friend who isn't into comics much, but I had introduced him to a number of animes and mangas (including Berserk), and I showed him the main BN series and explain what's going on in it, and he enjoys it :)
Speaking of John where the heck has he been since that planet got Black Ringed?
Anyways, have some Gurren Lantern (hmm forgot Simon's the one with that eye gear, lol)-
Speaking of John where the heck has he been since that planet got Black Ringed?
He landed on the planet and is being stalked by his dead wife who has a Green Lantern ring and a Black Lantern ring.
So, 2009 is coming to a close, what were your top 5 (or 10…heck it doesn't have to be top 5/10, just your fav. this year) series and characters, etc.?
This year I mostly read:
1. Captain America [main series, Theater of War, and Reborn]
2. Ms. Marvel [loving this book, but I heard it's ending at issue 50? :( That sucks]
3. Green Lantern [been a strong title since Rebirth.]
4. Justice Society of America [Just hope it's still good after the split]
5. Thor [the gaps in releases almost killed it for me though, but it's just been good!]
6. Amazing Spider-Man [Jumped in with American Son and haven't missed an issue since. It's been really good. Also loving the Clone Saga mini-series.]
7. War of Kings _8. Street Fighter [Udon's comics rarely disappoint me. Except the hiatuses.]
9. New Avengers [Just love this team. Plus it has Ms. Marvel and Captain America on it, so double points.]
10. Shazam and the Monster Society of Evil [Got it recently and loved it! Captain Marvel needs a monthly!]
I also really enjoyed the Timely Classics. I'm excited for the big work with the old classic characters with Toro's revival in Avengers/Invaders, and the series of Marvels Project, The Torch, and others coming out._
Dark Reign looks like the end of most of my Marvel buying. Bendis was a good writer, but he's gotten carried away with the power he's been given and I feel that he (and all the writers dealing with his status quo) has turned Marvel into a darker, slicker version of what it was in the 90s: a duffel bag full of shit. I feel for JMS, who had a good book and left because all of the nonsense.
Not that there weren't any good books….I think Secret Warriors and most of the X-books still hold promise. Hercules is probably better than ever, I'll try to catch up on that when I can. Ares has another issue left. But I'm sure I'll be out by the time Thor, Tony, and Steve are swinging their things in everyone's faces again.
With 2009 closing, the books I'm following are:
With Cable, X-Men Legacy, Red Herring, and a few others I'm playing catch up.
Well since these are the series I'm following at the moment. Since I just started Marvel Comics graphic novels collecting back in May (Since no where in my town have just the have the normal books, so I just collect the novel verisons). Here is my collection so far (inculding stuff that I'm getting for X-mas.) and this isn't bad for my first year of collecting.
She-Hulk (Vol. 1 - 3)
Young Avengers (Volume 1 and Volume 2)
Civil War: Young Avengers and Runaways
Astonshing X-Men (Vol. 1 - 4)
Runaways (Vol. 1)
Astonishing is big time goodness. Along with Year One, I'd say it should be at the start of any modern comic collector's stack. I'm waiting for Ellis to actually finish before getting into his run.
Along with what you currently have, I'd recommend Civil War itself and the first Mighty Avengers trade. And Omega the Unknown, just because it's my favorite.
I forgot to add that I'm also getting X-Men: Wolverine and Kitty Pryde (in hardcorver) for X-mas.

Captain Marvel does have a 'monthly' series; Captain Marvel and the Magic of SHAZAM. While the book is aimed at younger readers, it'll satisfy a fan.

Huh? IIRC, Secret Invasion was originally going to be an Avengers-centric story arc, but was eventually made into a Marvel event.
Furthermore, making Norman Osborn the head of HAMMER was an idea thought at the spot, dunno who came up with it though, but maybe that might've been Bendis?
What Dark Reign related series have you read? I pretty much read the majority of them and while a number of them were 'dark', they were still fun and enjoyable IMO. Heck some series didn't even feel like they had anything to do with DR and Norman until AFTER the Dark Reign subtitle was removed from their covers
Though JMS leaving may be more attributed to Siege I think; if there was going to be a Dark Reign: Thor, why not just let Matt Fraction write it? He wrote the SI Thor series which was OK (and wrote the Thor Ages one shots)
…still seeing how some of the DR titles involved Doom, the recent issues of Thor since 600 could be considered part of Dark Reign as they involved one of the main members of the Cabal.Either way, hope JMS will consider writing for Marvel someday. ATM Marvel's comics are still fun and enjoyable, but if you still don't like them then I guess they're just not 'your cup of tea' (if you'll pardon the expression)?
Oh and I don't think Bendis has 'full control' on what goes in the Marvel U.
Not that there weren't any good books….I think Secret Warriors and most of the X-books still hold promise. Hercules is probably better than ever, I'll try to catch up on that when I can. Yeah, the recent Herc story was hilariously entertaining
Speaking of Ares, this calls for an obligatory Ares-pimp-smacking-fools pic!
http://i48.tinypic.com/aes0mx.jpg@Sano- Nice collection. If you want to catch up with current X-Men events, see if you can get Messiah CompleX it sets up everything for the current X-Men books. After that, try X-Men Legacy; I can't vouch much for Uncanny X-Men as I hadn't read much of it.
If you're fine with blood, gore and action, X-Force is another X-book to consider._

It's "Billy Batson and the magic of Shazam!" I do follow it and it's fun, just not the same at all. Especially with that weird art.
I mean, it's a complete shame that after Captain Marvel's big event in Trials of Shazam, they didn't give Freddy a chance to play a big role. Look at the great things Bucky did when he became Captain America. Instead Freddy got a small part in Final Crisis (actually still less time than the alternate reality Billy Batson sadly) and doesn't get to shine. With CM as one of the strongest heroes DC has and his easy recognizable appearance, he could carry a book, I believe.
They shook up the Captain Marvel world in JSA by having the wizard Shazam take Billy, Mary and Adam's power away (which was odd since didn't he say long ago that Captain Marvel needed to stop Adam because Shazam couldn't take back the power?) but Freddy earned his powers straight from the gods, so Shazam couldn't hurt him.
Basically, with an angry wizard after Freddy, Billy and Mary turned into teens trying to find a way back to the Rock of Eternity, and whatever Black Adam is up to, I can't understand why such an amazing character is without his own main continuity book.

YES, I 100% agree with you. I have subsequently dropped nearly all 616 Marvel books (need my Agents of Atlas Fix, though) except Siege. I want to see what will come of this.
I can't wait to read the Fall of the Hulks storyline.
I can't wait to read the Fall of the Hulks storyline.
I once RAGED about it at another forum, 'jokingly' for the most part
…but I would've been a heck of a lot more excited about it myself if Loeb was not the one writing it >_>; At the very least I can expect some good action or such...
Loeb started off good with the Red Hulk stuff but in his typical fashion everything started petering off around 10 issues in.
^Oh I'd say that happened way before #10 =P
@Syan- Oh yeah that's what it's called, sorry, but yeah a main DC Captain Marvel book would rock with the proper writer.
Speaking of Captain Marvel, why are his eyes drawn so 'squint' in cartoons?
^Oh I'd say that happened way before #10 =P
Hahaha, fair enough. I was too lazy to look up where the first trade paperback left off and the second one started because holy mother of god was that second tpb a waste of money!
GOD. DAMN. IT.
So Marvel's recent solicitations spoiled the dead avenger and this will definitely piss you guys off:
! It's Hercules. There is a two-part story coming called "Hercules: Fall of an Avenger"
! Here is the solicitation:
! When the most beloved Olympian of all time falls, who will mourn him? Acclaimed INCREDIBLE HULK artist Ariel Olivetti joins writers Greg Pak and Fred Van Lente for a two-part mini-epic that marks the end of an era and the beginning of something utterly unexpected for Hercules, the Lion of Olympus. Bring your hankies – and your golden adamantine maces -- as an all-star cast including Thor, Namor, Namora, Snowbird, Alflyse, Bruce Banner, and of course, Amadeus Cho send off the Son of Zeus with shocking tales, smash-tastic action, bawdy tomfoolery, and heart-rending drama that will change the course of Marvel's marvelous mythological milieu... forever! Plus: There are some missions that require a woman's touch- so the rest of the Agents of Atlas hang back and let Venus and Namora go out and show their stuff!
40 PGS./Rated T+ ...$3.99
This is terrible. Just when I was getting into the character too. I guess this book is cancelled, then.
@Syan- Oh yeah that's what it's called, sorry, but yeah a main DC Captain Marvel book would rock with the proper writer.
Speaking of Captain Marvel, why are his eyes drawn so 'squint' in cartoons?
Yeah, I'd love for DC to make a new Captain Marvel book. I also want a Hawk & Dove book, but another Hawk just died in Blackest Night Titans. My favorite pairing of H&D was Hank and Dawn, since that was the one from my childhood.
The cartoons really exaggerate his squinty eyes! But honestly, the Billy Batson version of Captain Marvel has had very squinty eyes since the "Power of Shazam" 1994 retcon. They gave Captain Marvel thicker hair and squinty eyes to make him look less like a red & white Superman, which the similarities led to a lawsuit a long time ago which is actually the reason DC even has Captain Marvel. But in the comics Captain Marvel's eyes do widen at times rather than being like the cartoon and giving him permanent "Brock from Pokemon" eyes.
Only annoying thing for me in any of the animated appearances is that in Superman/ Batman: Public Enemies, he doesn't even say the magic word. His pronunciation and the subtitles clearly say "Shizam," which drove me nuts. It may seem like a little detail, but the proper spelling of "Shazam" has a very important meaning to the story and the character, not to mention nearly 70 years of history!
2009 had some pretty good stuff. For me:
1. Detective Comics - Easily the best book published this year. Great writing and even better art. JH Williams, Cully Hamner, and Greg Rucka have all really knocked it out of the park on this one. Can't wait for Batwoman's own ongoing in 2010.
2. Secret Six - continues to be my favorite book every month. Gail Simone and Nicola Scott are having fun writing this book and you can tell.
3. Green Lantern Corps - everyone loves Green Lantern, and I do to, but GLC I find myself being a little bit more excited for every month. It's been very strong, and though the art can take some getting used to I've come to really enjoy the art style in the book.
4. Blackest Night - duh
5. Batman and Robin - I wasn't a fan of RIP and Final Crisis was a mess, but this book has been top notch since it's launched. Hopefully Morrison will keep it up for a long time.
6. Final Crisis Aftermath: INK - surprisingly good. Considering this book is a spin off of Final Crisis and follows a character no one really cares that much about, it's waaaaay better than it should be allowed. Really great book, and can't wait to see this creative team take over the sinking ship that is Titans.
7. Utopia crossover in the X books - I actually really enjoyed this crossover, and it helped me get back into reading the X books again.
8. The Superman books - this is the first time in…..ever, that I've actually paid close attention to what's going on in the Superman books. Everything from New Krypton through what's happening right now has been really exciting.
9. The Muppet books from BOOM! have been very good, very true to the characters and the franchise.
10. Powergirl - refreshingly fun simple story telling that isn't bogged down in angst.
^
I agree with you on everything except the X Books. Definitely don't like the current direction.
I also love my Zenescope and Boom Titles as well.
This forum seems predominantly slanted towards DC from what I've seen of most of your favorites. Not that I'm complaining, just noticed that.
