@Silence:
Honestly this show I feel I could recommend to anybody - even non-anime fans. And it'd be a shame if you missed out on this – because if the runaway success of the show is any indication, we may start seeing more like it.
I don't agree.
A big part of Madoka's appeal is subverting expectations. Magical girl is already a common target for this - Nanoha and PreCure blended the stock elements with colourful battles, while Princess Tutu gave the story actual romance and a moving plot. Most people don't even watch magical girl anime, so the kind of people this show would have the biggest influence on are people who watch garbage fanservice harem stuff every season,
But for anyone familiar with Nitro+ already knows what they're getting into, so the interest is in figuring out the order of events and the nature of the plot twists. That's why discussing it was so much fun, and why some people were disappointed by Episode 10 (which I just saw, on 11 atm) - we'd already correctly illuminated the mystery, and since Episode 10 offered no new twists, it met our expectations, so there was no subversion.
I feel that since Madoka is the first visual novel-styled anime people have been exposed to, it's a new experience and is sure to shake their conception of what anime is capable of. A lot of comments brought about such hype for 999, so when I played it I had ridiculous expectations, especially since my play came off the heels of the legendary Muv-Luv Alternative. Objectively speaking, it's been really good thus far and very well paced, but I'd chock up its ability to spellbind people due to first-time exposure.
