That's regretable that they lenghtened a few scenes (When Whitebeard threw Akainu in the air before hitting him, for instance… Akainu just should have hit him back when falling... It was supposed to be a very fast scene with Akainu overpowered by Whitebeard...) and censored the Meigou, but damn was it epic !
I cried when Whitebeard destroyed Akainu. The scene was magnificient, along with the superb soundtrack !

Great Episode, one of the best on the entire Serie thought im a bit disappointed on the Second Hole. couldn't Toei thought of Ripping out something else beside Whitebeard's wings ? for exemple, a part of his Shoulder, Left ABs….etc

Excellent episode. Loved the epic smackdown WB did on Akainu. He got owned and owned badly. Muwahahaha. How very satisfying - you could ee him pissin himself when WB turned up behind him.
They better turn this arc into a movie.
Finally, someone agrees with me. I've proposed this ever since the arc first started, since Toei really disappointed me on how they were setting up the pacing and art quality of the arc, although it got significantly better as the war progressed, to an extent. I still feel that it could've been executed a lot more properly, however, which is why I thought it would be better to have it remade into a movie, where they'll be able to focus on perfecting it.
However, since Toei's doing somewhat better, now that the war's ending, I suppose those feelings of discontent have passed and gone, so I suppose a movie isn't absolutely necessary. Besides, maybe it would've been worse than the anime's portrayal of it altogether, like Movie 8…and it would probably be better for Toei to create a movie with an original plot rather than a known one, since the last two movies (excluding Strong World) were already both remakes.
Whatever the case, I'm feeling like Toei is really stepping their game up at the moment, so, hopefully, they will give us several more quality episodes such as this one in the future, eh.

wow I can't believe how epic this episode was! despite the half-face being censored and the poorly drawn Blackbeard pirates pose, it was far better than the manga chapter, and this is so rare.

great episode, some of the added things were nice, like Luffy's suffering and WB just standing behind Akainu and Akainu looking like he is about to shit himself..
then again some things didn't hit me right like Akainu just staying in "human form" while WB held him and threw him meekly failing towards the punch, i don't understand why they can have a hole in the torso and not on the head, but that is jsut me i guess, and it didnt bother me THAT much
but overall a very good feel to the episode and nicely done, far better then i was expecting because of the low expectations
And does anyone else find the matter in which they draw the holes to look utterly silly ? I mean Whitebeard looks like he's spilling out his chocolate filling…..twice as much as he did before.
Akainus beating was good. Though WB should have received his face lifting. All the great things WB did to akainu could have still happened. Though the scene where WB threw Akainu in the air was way too unrealistic in the op world given what these top players have displayed so far.

Ugggg, my hatred of the anime has reached new depths, they haven't done worse than this since the Luffy vs Hawkeye crap.
Ruination of the WB vs Akainu fight, seriously, it was epic because it happened so fast in the manga, that's why when reading it you are so blown away! That and WB getting half his face blown off, which they also trashed. Although that's pretty much the only stuff that made me hate the episode, it was so terrible that it runs over all the good stuff.
I did like the music and Luffy's crash, although that could have been made quite a bit shorter, in the manga I always felt that he pretty much was out of it from the moment ace died, still good though. The music was awesome! It really brought me into the feel of the episode.
Overall I would have to give this a 3/10. It was a decent episode but they ruined any chance of it being a great episode by killing the WB fight.
This ep had terrible art. It was like the Iva vs. Magellan episode.
Teach appearance looked like a kid drew it. Also not that impressed with the fight. I mean nobody had a problem with Akainu trying to use karate vs. WB? A quake that explodes like a ki blast? All that complaining about the ep leading up to Ace's death but this one gets praise?
This episode was hit and miss. Made Marco look like a bitch being blasted away by Akainu then some slo-motion running with Jinbe. They gave him a typical fat guy run instead of showing him sprinting. Episode is almost at Mihawk vs. Luffy&Jinbe level of failure to me. The cool scenes saved it however(luffy's break-down, quake punch, splitting the Island) whereas that episode had nothing redeeming.
They better turn this arc into a movie. I'm still in awe of all the positive comments.I must have watched something entirely different.

seriously, this episode was great. :) I enjoyed it so much, that I already watched it twice. I still don't like that they didn't show akainu punching off one side of whitebeards head, but you know it's the anime. you gotta accept that they change things like that. I told myself to not compare the anime with the manga coz that way, any episode is shit. you'll only enjoy the anime if you take it as something independent. todays episode was awesome. absolutely great. from luffy loosing it to the whitebeard/akainu fight. thanks toei! :)
Well, they have their point to complain, after all the anime doesn't follow completly the manga by adding things or changing facts (I still don't get why a new hole instead of the head) and Toei does a cheap work at important shots, like the last one of BB's crew.
But it's obvious that we aren't watching One Piece, but actually The Misadventures of Captain Buggy in the Great Age of Piracy.
Belial: Definitely many little things didn’t seem right which made the episode hilarious but yep overall it was good. Toei’s been bringing us canon since 1999 watch as Pops uses gear 2nd to teach teach next week. I can not wait for 585: happy:

Epic episode. It's nice seeing WB and Akainu simply fighting with fists - as short as it was - because it's usually peoeple doing 1 attack, and then moving on to the next enemy. I loved Akainu evading his attack from the air.
I understand why Toei didn't want to air a half faced Whitebeard, but those that only watch the anime will think think that he was only hit in the stomach. While still deadly, WB fighting with half a face is much more threatning and fierce, and adds more weight to Sengokus comment on "Hasn't lost any power with half his face gone" isntead of "hole in his stomach"

All I remember is that Itachi's skull thing that appeared looked epic, Narut's 4 tails fight with Orochimaru awesome and the rasengan always looks top notch. When I saw Marco and now how the last shot with Blackbeard, it was wtf.
Damn. Akainu got owned so bad. Whitebeard is truly in a class of his own. Anybody else would have died ten times already from even one of the more minor injuries he got and yet he still has enough power to completley dominate an admiral and his collateral damage is the whole freaking HQ.
Marco should have just flwon above and dropped Whitebeard on top of Navy HQ. Al the other pirates just seems to usless
By the way does anybody have a preview for the next episode? I can't wait to see Whitebeard owning Teach as well

Now on further random musings I can't help but wonder who is the second strongest after Whitebeard. I am personally betting on Dragon. He is at the right age to be at the peak of his power and experience and I think his mission gives him more focus to constatnly train and improve his skills

Source material is so good even the sloppy Toei job gets kudos i guess. I honestly think this arc cannot be told in this episodic format. The action always feels so "slow down". Pause after pause just to fill and comform to the 1 manga per episode rule. This kills the pace. and it has been since episode 1 of this arc. A great example of this is WB vs akainu. That shouldve been like 20-30s, instead of the mindless drag they put on. Plus fillers!! Plus censor!! Omfg… Charred torso? gimme a break... Didnt know humans are hollow btw, its getting ridiculous. How about some red in those fucking black holes!! Like with Ace? btw WB going down after sucker punching Sakazuki feels fucking WEAK and out of character, the man lost half his face without flinching canonwise. Neck grab and throw, just like that, are you kidding me? No, Toei, just... no. I actually edited that shit out and whatched it again, no joke. Some scenes were good tho. But it seems they can barely produce a minute of good animation per week. Beign the #1 show in Japan, it really blows my mind the cant have more ppl working on this or something. As some other poster said, lets just pray for a movie, i really think it should happen. Just imagine this arc in Strong World art... Dream on!

Yes dream on because Strong World….was a MOVIE!!! with a movie budget. You have to understand that what you are asking for is like asking for Inception or Avatar-level special effects for a weekly television series. That level of animation costs a lot more money than a weekly show can afford to spend.

i heard the fooly cooly animators did this episodes animation but i kinda like the art style, its not one i would like to see regulary but every once in awhile like in big fights like they did with naruto vs saskue in the valley of the end and in the forest of death when they fought orochimaru, in which it had a similar art style to this.

So far the graphics look very very good, but in some parts it just looks… Bad.
While the scene with Luffy screaming and the background being Green had a certain "Saw" feeling too it.
Also some sound effects sounded weird,like Akainu changing his arm to magma and Hell Hound. Sounding something like.. Screw it, figure it out for yourselves.
Another thing, San Jaun Wolfs beard turns from Black to Peach colored... Good Job, And the way Pizarro sounded... like that one Noodle guy from CP7 was it?

Naruto's anime has better animation (in general).
I mean… People always bring this episode up as an example of the animation being worse than One Piece's. But that's one of... nearly 200 (400 ish if you combine the original with Shippuden)?
The story of Naruto may be worse, but it shows that Studio Perriot puts more money in for the animation than Toei does for One Piece. Sadly.
