@Foolio:
I don't understand this attitude. Suddenly coming into this knowledge doesn't change his amount of insight, intelligence, or ability to discuss games and the gaming industry. He said something insensitive and people have every right to be upset or whatever but it's not like he's got some vendetta against the trans community. He's no Orson Scott Card using proceeds to fund hate machines. There are tons of people out therae with major flaws, narrow views in some areas, or who are just assholes, but they also contribute really valuable things in their area. I think there's a general consensus that Phil Fish is a douchebag but Fez is a really, really good game. So I bought it.
To play devil's advocate, the way "cis" gets tossed around all the time now is really stupid and irritating. I can't speak toward the origin of Krahulik's frustration or hatred of it, but it's basically a meme now on lots of parts of the internet, i.e. you complain about something like your car running out of gas and people go "you have it easy you self-entitled ciscool." I can thoroughly support the sentiment that people need to shut the hell up about it in contexts that don't make sense, or in other words any context not related to the gender discussion.
Can it be said that BEN KUCHERA, one of the big guys in the Penny Arcade… Industry or whatever it is, did actively make tweets mentioning that he was feeling sick watching the Mike stuff before throwing in LGBT support and ducking? Like, he even used the word CIS in all caps in his "I don't care what you are I love everybody" statement. The guy is friends with him and still basically went "what the fuck"
Some major uh... figures like Jim Sterling to Alex Navarro had responses in disapproval for Mike, or implicit support of opposition to what he said. Like, it has to be understood: he fucked up. It's not mountains out of molehills.
Child's Play is a good thing and everything else is like who cares? This isn't an isolated incident. It started in the first place because PAX Australia was allowing a panel that amounted to a bunch of whiny men going "why are people criticising things for being sexist WHY CANT GAMES BE FUN" which obviously would not be a place for interesting insight or discussions, nor a safe place for the question to be engaged (the word is: circlejerk). Mike was like "ohhh whatever it's fine" and that was when this stuff started. Places like PAX tried to be safe or mature places to be and basically are failing at it, amongst other things.
He's done this a lot in the past. He's basically a big baby. He actually didn't shut up and actively continued to insult people throughout the day and then ended it with "but I have a black friend" rhetoric.
Also yes you are playing devil's advocate. If you don't understand that he seriously seemed to think the word "cis" was a slur or something, when it's a pretty good word to be understood, then you probably should. Just because some people purposefully make a joke out of it doesn't make it a bad word. Like when people still make something legitimate like "check your privilege" into a massive joke to laugh at, thereby turning the statement into something that can never again be taken seriously, I think some over-enthusiastic activists are not some grand concern like "you're hurting your cause".
