@Femme:
Hey guys, I'd like your opinions on this:
I just had my 2nd interview for a job in a field that I've really wanted to work in, in a non-profit organisation, however the position is an executive and leadership-level one, where I expected an assistant-level position, and I don't feel capable of performing in what they need me to do.
The interviewers know what I have done and what experience I have and don't have, and I think they're very much interested in hiring me, but I've just never been COMPLETELY IN CHARGE of something before, and if I'm hired, I would be in charge of a lot of people and having to juggle numerous tasks and various programs.
My husband is being really supportive since he's a exec at a non-profit org. as well, telling me he'd train me where I lacked and "how long are you going to stay at assistant level?", and he's right but…. I'm just so scared of doing a bad job and not knowing what to do, and not being creative enough. I'm really not the type of person that comes up with the creative, new ideas.
There are other issues as well, but this is the core of my anxiety. Anyone been in a similar position before?
Do it.
I fully understand your worries and empathise with you, but I also believe in you, and clearly the closest person in the world to you does as well! I don't know much about the position but I believe that working as a team means allowing others to compensate for your weaknesses as you push ahead with your strengths. You seem passionate about the organisation and its work, and as long as you're sincere and willing to work hard, I believe others will see it and decide to support you, just as your interviewers already have!
What you can do is ask if accepting the job would provide you with any training to help to prepare you to take on a new role. Some organisations are like "if you are accepted and don't have X, you will undergo a training course to provide you with the necessary preparation". That plus your husband's training would help you plenty, I'm sure!
Plus I know you a little and I think that working in a non-profit organisation is wonderful for you.
All the best! I hope you reach a decision that you can be at peace with :)
