The 3DS design doesn't hurt my hands all that much. The longest I've played it in one sitting is 3 hours, and I went away pain-free.
As for the 2nd stick accessory, I personally don't mind it too much, but it does look a bit awkward with it jutting out to the side like that.
The point has been said, but I want to agree that I'd be pissed if a new model is announced with a 2nd stick, and/or if future games require it.
I very much doubt a 2nd model is coming out any time soon. Not with everything that's just happened. There may be 1 in the works but the earliest i see it is december 2012. Maybe to celebrate the world not ending.
As for the 2nd circle pad it is something that should have been there since the beginning and it does look awkward however people have said that while looking at the wii U controller and that supposedly very comfy and easy to hold. The rounded of edges as well make it more comfy because sometimes (especially when i play zelda and i am constantly holding the L button) it does hurt my hands holding it so this is quite good
Looking at the release schedules, 3DS is going to have had one of the best Y1's I've seen. On it's own merits it's not that good, but compared with past gaming hw launches…it's great.
Yeah, it's so great that they had to knock $100 off after only a few months and issue a formal apology.
The games at the end of the year may be good but launching it AFTER the holiday season with nearly no games was a terrible choice. Then, to delay their "AAA" games….yeah it was doomed to reach this point. They did rely too much on the popularity of the DS when they thought that the 3DS would be selling like hotcakes and 3rd party developers would be all over it at launch.
The 3DS itself isn't a failure (from what I gather; I've never even seen one in real life...) but the launch + launch window was downright terrible. Also, who advertises a game WITH the system and doesn't even release that game until way after they said they would (as a matter of fact, it isn't even out yet).
I'm already fearing for the WiiU as Nintendo hasn't even shown anything they created for it. They have a bad habit of showing a product or revealing a release date shortly before it comes out now.
That depends on your standards of success. If you're looking at the business side, then yes Nintendo suffered in comparison to something like the Wii. Absolutely. But if you're looking at it from a consumer side, it's been as good as you could hope for. Compare it with something like the PS3 release and it isn't even close. And the game library after a single year will be the best I've ever seen for any console, period. The one consumer downside is that the people who bought it early missed the price drop. But assuming that price drop had never occurred at all, it wouldn't be an issue in the first place, and we still got compensation for it anyway.

@urogue as well:
yeah, first year looks wallet-bustingly amazing. If literally anything good comes out in first quarter '12 then I will be in serious trouble.
but up until the price drop, I wouldn't blame a soul for not getting the system. besides ghost recon and DoA, the best games were all ports, and nintendo's famous AAA 1st party games aren't dropping until the holiday season. And the eShop wasn't even up in time. It was a bad launch.
If not fake this confirms MH3G
Ever since school has started. I've been getting streetpass miis almost everyday!
So the attachment is real. FFFFF- whatever.

Samurai Warriors was a great game. My fave launch too. Wasn't really a port either.
Not liking the add-on at all. I'm hoping its only for use with Monster Hunter Tri and you get it included. It's already uncomfortable using the cradle while charging.

I wish i was a kid again :(, I can't get any, even on vacations with kids from other countries on the beach everywhere.
Anyone in europe as an easy time getting some Miis? I have 0, I don't really go around with the 3DS everywhere but still… In Portugal people are Sony fanatics mostly anyway so I end up understanding lol.
I agree with Cyber-Robin, I said it like 300 times already, Nintendo messed up their best launch game, Nintendo and Tecmo Koei, they didn't make any advertising for the damn game, the game is fun, has Hack and Slash plus RPG elements and up to 200/300 hours of content, plus the gamesites completelly ruined it by giving it a bad grade, it seems like they didn't even play the game, its actually diferent from the other SW/DW games and it was still hated on, I saw some retarded reviews saying its the usual and there was nothing new, I wanted to punch those people in the face, they clearly didn't play the game.
I lost my 3DS at a Con this past weekend… It had just gotten all the free games... I guess it isn't that bad, considering it was my own fault for having it in my pocket. I guess I'll just buy the new red one or the black (never was a fan of the blue version).
I have 56 hits. 52 of those being from Gamescom. 3 of them being from Gamestop and other stores.
I've got around 15 hits 8 are from college, 2 from gym 1 is my neighbour and the others is just random
Caught a lot while going through shopping miles and stores which sell electronics and such.
Of course last month's GamesCom helped a lot too.
But I spend a lot of coins for finishing the puzzles and the mini game so I don't really bother
Dear Nintendo
Why the ponce are you releasing an a-stick add on?
You knew full well that 3D gaming required it, but for some reason you decided not to include it in the final design of the first (yes first) 3DS model.
I'm not going to ask that you give us the reason, said reason would only make sense to only you anyway, but I really would have preferred that you had stuck to your guns. Sure it would be inconvenient for me , but I actually kind of admire the ability of a mad man to stand firm in the restless waves of logic reason. Hell, remember the 64 DD? The CD's were encased in cartridge, there was no way in hell you were going to concede that CD's were the proprietary format of the future.
You clung onto the cartridge no matter what the consequences ( and we all know what they were). As a fan I could proudly say, "See that crazy bastard trying to recreate the Michelangelo using his tounge as a chisel? That's my boy Nintendo, shine on you crazy diamond!"
But with this…what the fuck is this? Not only do you admit that it was fucking stupid not to include a second a-stick,you do it in a way that makes you look even dumber than you do already. I don't care how cheap you price this dongle (it could be as low as a penny for all I care), people shouldn't have to pay for the ability to adjust their camera to angles that aren't retarded. At this point it's something expected of a game, that we can actually control the game!
I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'm disappointed in you Nintendo, not only from a fanboy perspective, but from a consumer perspective as well.
Call me when you announce that second 3DS model.

How DARE Nintendo realize they made a mistake and try to correct it!
Seriously it isn't an ideal situation, but to me it seems more like they're really trying to improve the system and fix the mistakes they made. $10 is a reasonable price and it probably won't be required for many games anyways.

A second analog stick for the purpose of adjusting a 3D camera has been an industry standard since the Sony launched the Dual Shock.
They're trying to make us pay for their blunder, that is not reasonable at all
From what I've gathered it's mainly only for Monster Hunter anyways.
For once I'm glad I got a service plan for my hardware.
"Yeah, darndest thing how my 3ds isn't working anymore. Almost like as if someone chucked it across the room.
Oh well, how bout that new model eh?

Besides I read that Capcom isn't interested for now to release Monster Hunter in the West.
So the add-on stick is not our business.
(though it sucks hard to not get MH3G -.-)

fuck
capcom .
Did Tri do bad on the Wii or something? Because I was kinda thinking they wanted a bigger fanbase than the one that was already established on the PSP.
Don't think so … at least some of my friends had problems to get the bundle with the CC Pro and I barely see the game in stores.
come to the UK then. It's everywhere. When I was working at Toys R Us they were selling it off alongside Other M pre-Christmas for £15 (excluding the controller)
I'm not sure if I'm interested or not. Monster Hunter Tri was good but I just lost interest after a while and found it impossible to get back into it. Didn't help that I had sank 20 hours into the game and just felt I hadn't gotten anywhere.
I thought Tri sold really well in the west?

Well the same with me too.
The single player mode was repetitive fast but the strong side of this game is online. You can do more (special events for example) and farm the materials for weapons & armor more easy.
If Capcom would fix the adding system for the 3DS version I'll consider buying it again.
Anyone else besides me getting Starfox tomorrow?
I thought Tri sold really well in the west?
How well? Capcom's standards of well? Or just well? Because I honestly believe they wanted a great portion of the Wii's huge userbase.
Anyone else besides me getting Starfox tomorrow?
Of course. I had hands on with it at reading and it seemed pretty immense. I just worry that i'll finish it way to quickly

immense? are you… you didn't play it on the 64, did you.
well, you can beat the game, as in see the ending, in a couple hours easy. One sitting. You were forced to, because there were no saves. The replay value comes from the branching paths, and it will certainly take quite a few playthroughs to visit every planet and open every branch and get every medal. great game, lots of replay value, but "immense" is not quite the word I'd use.
but what I'd like to know is this, for people who are buying it tomorrow: can you save between planets now? and can you choose to play any of the planets you've visited at any time in some sort of bonus mode? I'll be getting the game regardless, but I'd like to know.

SO its more reasonable to expect a business to go around passing these out for free to everyone with a system? Yeah they should've included it in the first place. They didn't though, and given that this is still better than never getting one at all. Or do you think Nintendo should force everyone with the system to buy the next redesign in order to get it?
Anyone else besides me getting Starfox tomorrow?
I so would if I had the money (freakin' college textbooks…). First video game I ever beat. My heart was racing when I was facing off against Andross for the first time. I was only a wee-little 5 year old at the time!

I used immense instead of really very fun cause it was the first word that poped into my head. Obviously it's not immense in the sense that xenoblade is a skyrim looks but it's a very good game

I have no idea, sorry. I just heard it did well, but not how much.

Yes and yes. There's score attack for revisiting levels
Capcom's expectations for Tri wouldn't have been mega high anyway.
They don't expect much from non portable editions
Picked up Starfox 3DS today. Morrisons had it for £25 so couldn't complain much lol. Seems pretty solid from what I played of it. Although I know the 3D will be switched off soon lol
I need to buy starfox for me younger brother. I promised him. So I will be trading in old pokemon games and old wii games for this one.
Also, did anyone watch the new revelations trailer? I gotta say. Looks creepy. Resident Evil style :D
Yeah saw the trailer but somehow the blonde big-breasted chick ruined the mood :D

Japanese magazine Shounen Jump has provided gamers with some additional details about the recently revealed Dragon Quest X.
Apparently the game will be referred to as Dragon Quest Online rather than Dragon Quest X. The game also features six races: Ogre, Elf, Dwarf, Pukuripo, Wedi and human. Players are tasked with solving a mystery involving the human world. The main area is called is called Astoldia, which is split into four continents: Ogleed, Eltona, Dwachakka, Pukuland, and one island chain, Wena Islands. The game is developed by Square Enix and is due out next year for Wii and later for Wii U.
I want to be a slime >.< I'm interested in this, but I'll get it for WiiU (which I hope has better online).
Starfox 3d is go so far. Hate having to sit through the credits every time though. Done it on both 3ds mode and 64 mode and in the latter got the true ending. Man i hate Aquas
You know. I forgot how short Starfox is. Two full games in the space of an hour and I'm actually running out of things to do already. I guess I can do the whole Medal challenge.
SO its more reasonable to expect a business to go around passing these out for free to everyone with a system?
Well they just finished handing out twenty free games to people just because happened to buy the console at launch. Now they have a damn good reason to give away free stuff.

I would rather they not bother with the second analog stick at all. Nobody was demanding the damn thing, and this solution is just plain damn insulting to me as both a consumer and a fan.

As detailed then, Dragon Quest X is actually Dragon Quest X Online.

Ace Attorney 3DS and Yoshi 3DS rumors
Good-Feel making a Yoshi game would be nice. Epic Yarn was fun and beautiful. I'd love to see what they'd do with Yoshi.
For anyone who thinks Nintendo are still the kings of gaming (hardware and sales wise, but they're still the best game developers imho)
Things have not been so good for Nintendo lately, but given how rushed the 3DS was this report does not surprise me in the slightest.http://www.destructoid.com/rumor-wii-u-is-in-development-hell–210892.phtml
Rumor: Wii U is in 'development hell'
Jim Sterling
"According to trusted hardware leakers 01.net, Nintendo is having more than a few birthing complications with its upcoming Wii U system. Allegedly in "development hell", Nintendo has been accused of trying to rush the production of the console to get it out quickly. That's so totally unlike Nintendo!
Due to its rushed design, the Wii U is said to feature "inadequate" streaming and wireless functions, as well as a cheap chip set. The wireless controller – Nintendo's big selling point -- doesn't even work, with developers using tethered controllers. It's claimed that even the tethered ones aren't working correctly.
"Many developers are feeling lost, their progress impeded by a distinct lack of visibility, their working hours by the quasi-paced daily software updates," adds the gossip-gatherers.
The sad thing is, I don't think it takes any great stretch of imagination to believe this stuff. Nintendo's past already hints at a willingness to rush consoles and a complete failure to grasp wireless technology, so these rumors aren't exactly fantastical. In fact, I'd be more surprised by reports of development going smoothly."
Don't get me wrong, it sucks for me to read this. I'm really looking forward to the Wii-U but Ninty are in a huge stretch of bad luck for the time being..

That kind of thing happens with every console. I remember all horror stories of the PS2 development kits from way back. Weather the console releases in June, Nov or anywhere in between you can bet it's going to be a quality system as always.
