@GuetaMinute:
Let's be fair here, it took Ninty about 5 years to catch up, and by the time the PS4 and 720 come out, the Wii U will be fairly less powerful, it'll probably end up being the PS2 of next-gen. Not that there's anything wrong with that, though.
well the ps2 held back the gamecube and 360 from better graphics because it was the most popular system, so theres that to worry about

@Urouge:
Technology is reaching a point where it exceeds what developers are capable of taking advantage of. At this point, more horsepower in a system is good for variable shading, capability to support more singular moving background objects at once, viewing distance, things of that nature.
Even though the Wii U will blow away the hardware of the PS3, developers won't be able to develop stuff that the PS3 can't manage for a good while, and when they do it will be subtle stuff that most people would never notice until the two versions are put side by side for them. Upgrading the hardware even more to the PS4 should show even less improvement from a software perspective, no matter how much more power it has. 3D support for consoles might be a factor if the Wii U can't support it, since the PS4 surely will. But beyond that, the improvement has to come in other areas such as control and multimedia support for any next gen consoles to have any sort of hardware advantage that's noticeable by the consumers.
yea i don't think people realize this
doesn't matter if the wii u had infinite power. Its still up to the DEVELOPERS to make the games. They can't just say "make everything look perfectly real" they have to individually create each item in the world. that all takes time.
