And no mention if old controllers will work with the Switch huh?

It seems we'll only get one free game a month, and only for that month:
[h=3]Monthly game download[/h]Subscribers will get to download and play a Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) or Super Nintendo Entertainment System (Super NES) game (with newly-added online play) for free for a month.

How is different from Kinect?
It's different from Kinect because the Wiimote could already do all of those things.
Also… just look at this list of launch titles for other systems. The Switch is getting what, four launch titles? Three of them are ports, and one is 1,2 Switch?
Unless they announce about ten more launch titles, be prepared for the switch to flop harder than the Wii U.
-
I liked what I saw but I'm not yet sure I'll buy it at launch.
The hype for Zelda might change my mind. I could also wait until June to get more interesting titles at the same time as the console.
The more important thing is that I was reassured by the autonomy announcement which was my biggest fear. -

They're just reeeeally banking on Breath of the Wild.
Which is honestly more of a system-seller than the entire Wii U's launch lineup combined. Some old ports and multiplats aren't going to help. I imagine they'll make the Wii U version pretty scarce.
-
Zelda, Mario, and Splatoon look good. Though I might actually just pick up BotW on WiiU, and get the Switch sometime in 2018 or so when there's enough stuff worth playing on it to justify the purchase.
My own personal thoughts aside, I predict another WiiU-tier flop. This just isn't going to catch on in today's market, not with that kind of launch lineup. What the hell has Nintendo been doing this past few years? I assumed they were keeping it quiet because all projects were being moved to Switch so they could have a stellar launch, but instead…
and where the fuck is retro goddamit

As one of the most cynical people on this board, I'm going to say no.
Wii U launched with pretty much nothing new, just what? Nintendo Land? Zombii U? Basically, no one game that was high-scale quality that would justify launch investment.
Based on the trailer, this Zelda game is gonna be pretty fucking huge. I wasn't that interested in it before, but that trailer gave it a whole new weight in quality to me that it just didn't have before, and I'm 99% I was not the only one to feel that.
What this means is that a fuckton of people who never got the Wii U will leap at this chance, and a lot of people will rather make this investment than upgrade their PS4 to the pro, for example.
Come April, these people also gain access to Mario Kart. Come summer, they got access to Splatoon minus all the inconveniences the Wii U Splatoon had. Add in the possibility of better online servers given they ask for a subscription model, and you even have the possibility of the game just being better all around.Compare to Wii U where there was no killer app for almost an entire year. Compare to Wii U where developers immediately realized how difficult it would be to develop for it. Compare to how ambivalent people were about the Wii U when hearing about it and how there's near universal interest in this one after the October 12 reveal. Throw in only $300 investment, and this thing is bound to sell.
Personally, I'm for sure buying at launch. This is a robust launch window and I like the potential the machine shows in terms of accessibility for gameplay and development. I don't think it's as good as people want it to be, and the processing quality probably won't be that great. I don't think it will be more powerful, and the battery life of 2.5 to 6.5 can be worrisome and I hope it can be improved.
But the games are there, and those games (Spla2n, Mario, Zelda, Xenoblade, Bomberman, Mario Kart, Sonic Mania, etc.) all have that vision of going back to core elements I've wanted for a while. Spla2n with local multiplayer, mario with open levels, zelda with an open world WITH story, …. as a gamer, seeing these games go back to things I've been missing is extremely refreshing. Even if I criticize the shit out of the rest of the Nintendo decisions, I cannot NOT support this with my money.
-
Fuck you Nintendo…. I was supposed to be saving my money.... fuck you.... so hard....
-
I am debating heavily at buying at launch because of money issues but goddammit Nintendo.
-
I'm at the point where I kind of want to wait for the second revision of the system with better battery life.
Not sure maybe details on the online infrastructure can tip me over for getting it just for zelda but I doubt it.
I kind of want this to be my next generation handheld as such 3 hours for something like Zelda is very disappointing. -

Don't prioritize a video game over more important stuff.
-
Preorders for the console are live on Amazon.
-
Looks promising but not Get-Day-One promising.
Though Zelda looks superb
-
The more I read the worse my impressions get. Also 330 euros for Germany goddammit.
So you basically pay 390 for Switch and Zelda at launch + more if you don't want to play on joycons but a pro controller.Jeeeeeesus pricing is so off for this thing. Feels like paying for a lot of tech again that is in the joycons that you might not even use at all/feels superfluous.

Did they reveal the wiiu version release date?

I'd buy a Switch for No more Heroes 3. Travis Touchdown is my spirit animal

Okay, after looking at the different things announced for either around launch time, later this year, and at some point it has potential. I don't remember what it was like for the WiiU but they do have a number of games already being shown or teased to get people interested so that is a good sign. Won't be a day 1 buy for me but if I hear good things about the various games could be a buy during the holiday season or sometime next year.
As for the games that had some sort of trailer, my quick thought.
Super Mario Odyssey: Looks like it could be a lot of fun, but the question is how well will it being a sandbox game help or hurt it. From a glance it looks like there are a lot of different areas which while big don't seem overwhelming and are separated from each other. Each area look distinct and I am quite intrigued.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Okay, despite my distaste for the first one, it does once again present a cool environment, and if fixes some of the problems I has with the first one I might consider it.
Zelda: Cool trailer, but still doesn't answer my questions about if the world itself will be empty or not. A trailer can show me all this cool stuff, but if that is only a small part of the game and the rest doesn't have much it won't be worth it. Still interested but XenoBlade Chronicles has soured my mood on open world stuff.
-
I've been following stuff on this Zelda game for so long … I haven't squealed at a trailer since Strong World when Luffy whipped out a gun, but when that Goron showed up! And the voice acting doesn't sound like it's shit!
I want it. I want it now.

That shot of Marie in the Splatoon 2 trailer has "JRPG party traitor" vibes to it

I guess the last Splatfest was for who is gonna be in the sequel. We basically murdered her cousin and she is mourning.

I might get it on launch but I think I'll save it for May like with my Wii U…let it be an end of semester treat.
Then the question becomes, should I bother with the Wii U release of Breath of the Wild? Part of me says no, part of me is looking to my Gamecube version of Twilight Princess. -
No Pokemon or Kirby. No buy.
Not interested in Zelda anymore to buy a whole console for either. So until I see more games I'm interested in
-
-
You were for Pokemon Stars? (not judging, just curious)
Was somewhat hoping to see Pokemon Stars if the words were true. If there's some proof that the franchise is going to continue on Switch, then that would be a sell for me.
But now, I'm kinda thinking Nintendo going to test how the console performs first before deciding on the future of its handheld market. It be a shame to get the Switch for one game and realise no more is going to come out on it.
So yeah, really skeptical now that I'm seeing the launch isn't as strong as I hoped. There's Zelda, but… I don't want to overestimate its success.
-
Xenoblade 2 is coming in 2017 according to its Japanese website.
Hype train picking up full steam!

Personally, I'm hesistant to have Stars be a thing. It's a logical progression if the Switch is going to take some of the 3DS's handheld market, but Sun and Moon came in November. Feels like it's too soon to retread Alola.

Here I thought Hyrule Warriors Zelda was the top qt. <3
-
The 3DS also didn't had a good lineup when it launched, but now it seems to be the only console that can compete with the PS4 in Japan, home and handheld.
-
I wasn't gonna bother getting the Mario Kart 8 Re-release, but…. it looks like they fixed the battle mode?!?! Hell yes! I hope that rumor that Nintendo is gonna come up with a deal to upgrade for a reduced price ends up being true.

Pretty sure it's going to get delayed.

+Jr. and Inklings are playable characters.
Which conflicts me. I want want want it, but it's not enough for me to differentiate it completely from vanilla. Argh, this is ultimate MvC3 all over again ;_;

Japanese website so just Japan.
Also I mean yeah it could be delayed but we do know this game has also been in development since 2015, so I could see it coming this year without incident.
Also i just said this in the Square Enix thread but its no outside the realm of possibility to release games the same year you announce them. shrug

Alright I safely got my switch reserved
-
Super Bomberman R is a launch title.

http://www.ign.com/articles/2017/01/13/bandai-namco-announces-more-new-switch-titles
Looks like Bandai Namco is developing a Tales of game for the Switch and additionally Dragonball Xenoverse 2 was announced for Switch
-
-
Does anyone have a clue where I can order the Masters Edition of Breath of the wild (not the over priced ebay stuff) that offers delivery to Europe (Germany)
-
Yeah we have no idea what will be out as launch and it comes out in two months…"We have over 80 games being developed"
Zelda does look freaking gorgeous.
Yeah cool… As long as not one of the titles is shown to be a launch game I do not care so far. And I can't see any game to let me say... Yeah cool I will bay nearly 329 Euros + Nintendo Online + this really high controller prices.
I dont think the moves Nintendo made with this presentation has been smart...
--- Update From New Post Merge ---
To add something more to the Nintendo is nuts...
Cool I get an SNES old school game for free with my abo... FOR ONE FUCKING MONTH.
I'm not PS+ fan at all... But at least I can keep my games as long as I'm signed to it...
I have been long against it... But maybe it will be ebtter Nintendo will go the Sega way and stop console production...
-
Okay so after having had a while to process the reveal, some additional details, and some of what they've showed off today, I think in short my opinion boils down to this:
-Pessimistic / displeased about the hardware
-Optimistic / excited about the software
-Very slightly, and very cautiously, optimistic about the online gameplayI am still pretty annoyed that they are pretending their tablet with a charging dock is a magical versatile new type of home gaming system. Not impressed by the design, the controller still looks questionable and of cheap quality but I'll have to try it, bad battery life but that's expected, and a really shitty 32GB of internal memory. I can only pray it performs halfway decently when docked, and that it takes SDXC etc. for increasing storage capacity. I am not optimistic that the dock will support ethernet either, which is mind-boggling.
But on the other hand they've announced games that I don't want to pass up on, period. I could live without a slightly-enhanced Mario Kart 8, but Splatoon 2? Xenoblade 2? Mario Odyssey? Tales games, Bomberman, and more? Not to mention whatever Virtual Console options they might add. I'm not going to go without that. So yeah it's one of those things where I feel held hostage to poor hardware choices, and one of those "why are consoles still a thing again?" moments, but hey they have sold me on enough things. The Zelda trailer was also fantastic, even if their presentation yesterday proves yet again beyond any measurable doubt that Nintendo needs to fire their ENTIRE marketing staff, like literally every single employee, and find people who are competent.
As for online play – they seem to be making a move in the right direction with managed servers, lobbies, voice chat, and connectivity apps. And I seriously am happy to pay a nominal subscription fee if it means online performance will actually be halfway decent. To me that is just getting with the times. BUT I am still expecting them to largely fuck it up, having no real way to effectively communicate during online matches, still-lacking server performance, no ethernet as mentioned, etc. They didn't talk at all about whether they are moving to a more account-based content/connectivity model, but my expectations are low there.
So I guess overall I'm excited to play some of these games, but... not that excited about the actual Switch?
-

Based on everything I've read…voice chat and online lobbies will be handled on a seperate smartphone app, not on the Switch itself. Which sounds incredibly retarded IMO.

I'm pretty hyped for the Switch. But I'm going to point out two things 1. I don't care a bit about online gaming and 2. I don't particularly care about specs on a Nintendo console. I already own a PS4 and a gaming PC so yeah. I do have a few issues which I'll bring up here.
1. Not much coming out for launch. Like really there's Zelda and Bomberman and that's it. Now while Nier: Automata is out the week after the switch I'm also hyped for that I just dunno if Zelda will carry me until Mario Kart/Splatoon (and I barely touched Splatoon on the Wii U) while I do appreciate there is a bunch of 3rd party stuff like Disgaea and Dragon Quest Heroes 1+2 coming out I dunno if those will carry it for me.
2. There seemed to be very little on the horizon from Nintendo considering we haven't really seen much from them last year. I mean we haven't had much on the 3DS or Wii U front for a year now and managing to pop out a handful of games just felt a bit…meh. What's the Kirby dev team doing? Intelligent Systems? Retro Studios (hell they haven't done anything in some time despite saying they were working on something.) also missing was stuff like Pikmin 4 which we were told a few years ago was almost nearly done.
3. Having to pay for online. I'm not a huge online player so having to pay for what little I will use kinda puts me off a bit. This is more of a 'oh but Nintendo you didn't have this before' kinda thing as overall if Sony and Microsoft are allowed to do it...why not Nintendo? Although if Bomberman is online I can certainly see me using it a bit more as it's something I've been wanting for ages.Overall I'm pretty happy with the console as it is I just hope the games start picking up. I know there's probably a lot more games coming just focusing on what was in the direct tho. I kinda feel that this is when the 3rd Parties and Indies should be making an effort to shine but whether or not they do is another story.
I am incredibly excited for Xenoblade and Fire Emblem Warriors too (Fire Emblem direct next week woop!) and X got 500 hours from me so I know I'll get value. And if I start thinking of this as a handheld console I'm more likely to pick up Disgaea and Skyrim when they pop up... actually.
4. HOW IS SKYRIM NOT A LAUNCH? Seriously it's gonna be 6 year old soon surely if the console was easy to port over this could be happening closer or at least on launch

Presentation was a hot trash mess. No launch titles and just talking about hey we have games guys we promise.

Like all Nintendo handhelds, I'll wait a year for the upgraded and better version to come out.

As well as actual games you wanna play to come out a year after launch. xD
Also:
-
Call me predictable, but I'll wait for smash, again. Or if hell frezes over and Metroid comes. A Metroid Prime with splatoon controlers is bound to be "neat".
-
Nintendo: We once again only rely on Mario and Zelda, what else is new?
Please be excited.:ninja:
